Now I had them come out to do some tuckpointing in areas that were cracking and missing grout. Needless to say that exceptional work is now shoddy at the least. When they were doing the tuckpointing the color did not even match the rest of the house. They had to stop to change color and still needed to come back and lighten it even more. Within 2 months the tuckpointing was cracking after spending over $3,000. Told him maybe your workers are not as great. You think they would notice it isn't right and stop! DO NOT USE - Unreliable Roofing Contractor - Nightmare!…read more We hired Shield Masonry & Roofing Inc. in June 2022 to repair the roof of our condo building and build a new deck on top of it. Unfortunately, our experience with them was a nightmare, and we feel compelled to share it with others to prevent anyone else from going through the same ordeal. First and foremost, the contractor used incorrect materials while building the deck. To add insult to injury, they charged us for more expensive materials than they actually used, displaying a complete lack of integrity and transparency. We mutually agreed with the contractor in advance in writing that the roof deck would be built with "Trex Transcend" composite decking in Rope Swing color; the contractor, however, built our roof deck with "Trex Enhance G2 Grooved" composite decking in Foggy Wharf color, a material of much lesser quality that is already breaking in some areas. To make matters worse, the deck construction was carried out in a way that now leaves our roof in violation of building codes. Not only did they fail to adhere to regulations, but they also neglected to inform us of these potential issues during the process, and when we let them know that their work was out of code, they did not apologize, would not fix their work to align with code, and blamed it on us when they are the experts. Furthermore, upon inspection by independent experts, it was determined that the roof deck framing is not structurally sound. We were advised that (a) there are narrow pieces of wood supporting the west side of the roof deck, which do not align with standards of practice in the industry and will pierce the roof's membrane as weight is applied, (2) the roof substructure was laid incorrectly, preventing the free flow of water to the scuppers, and (3) already, various portions of the roof deck are loose and detached from the frame, making the roof deck unsafe to walk on. This poses a substantial risk to the safety of those in our building and our guests. Throughout the project, communication was very difficult and minimal, and they showed little to no concern for our satisfaction or the quality of their work. When we raised our concerns, they were dismissive and unresponsive, leaving us feeling frustrated and deceived. We strongly advise anyone considering hiring Shield Masonry & Roofing Inc. to NOT HIRE THEM. Their unprofessionalism, lack of expertise, and disregard for customer satisfaction have left us with a costly and dangerous mess to clean up, including having to re-do all of the work. On top of that, we reached out for a refund, and they would not comply or even respond to us despite their defective, fraudulent and grossly negligent acts and omissions, and we will need to re-perform the work with a new vendor. Please learn from our unfortunate experience and look for a reputable and trustworthy contractor to handle your roofing and deck projects who is NOT Shield Masonry & Roofing Inc. Don't let yourself fall victim to the same nightmare we endured.

They came as a…read morerecommendation through a trusted source that had not personally used them but had a client give that name. A couple things stood out immediately. They were very prompt in replying back to my web inquiry and scheduled a time for Joe to come out. Joe was really thorough in estimating what should be done and was nice to have. We ended up going with the full proposal since we realized that this was work that would last 15 years or so. (Tuckpointing our fronts and sides, and also repair of our front steps, recaulking). Diane from the office was very good at communicating from the outset , from what needed to get completed when , securing permits scheduling a final walk through,. The onsite crew was very diligent in getting the work done but also communicating to our neighbors and blowing off any residual dust). They also did a great job in cleanup , rinsing off anything after the work had cured/completed. Tuckpointing is certainly not a cheap project, but we have good foundational things on the outside now that will last through the rigors of a Chicago season. While their work is great, I thought the communication was above at the top of my experience with many contractors/vendors.
