I can't say enough wonderful things about Contour Bridal! They did an incredible job making me, my 7 bridesmaids, and MOB feel our absolute best for my wedding! Taylor, the owner, was so sweet and great to work with - going above and beyond to accommodate my crazy schedule for the trial and even managed to find an additional artist for us at the last minute. Jenn did my hair, and Daejah did my makeup, and I was completely blown away by their talent! From the trial, I knew I was in great hands and I didn't want to change a thing! Jenn perfectly captured the look I wanted and my hair stayed perfectly through the night. I felt like a princess! Daejah's makeup look was ART! I don't wear a lot of makeup typically, and she made me feel like the very best version of myself. It's taken me a few days to process how much Taylor grossly mishandled this situation. I can not recommend Contour Bridal to women with darker skin, specifically black women. Me and my fiancé eloped in Sonoma CA in Oct. We both live in Chicago so I was limited to internet research when it came to local vendors. During my initial reach out I asked for an artist comfortable working with darker skin and sent in inspo pictures of black women. Noticing a sparse amount of black women in their portfolio, I really wanted to ensure their was expertise. Taylor responded quickly saying "We are definitely comfortable with all skin types & tones, I know our IG shows a lot of similar faces but I assure you you're in great hands." This to me signaled despite their portfolio, many of their artist regularly work with black women - great I thought. I booked a trial and day of wedding makeup & hair back to back for my wedding week in Sonoma and was assigned an artist. I was not in great hands-- the trial was a disaster. I don't know how else to describe the makeup other than I looked like a Geisha... The artist was very nice but It was very obvious she was overwhelmed and more so inexperienced with darker skin. I think sensing something was off, that night I get an email from Taylor asking how it went. I express my frustration and she suggests switching the MUA to another lead MUA and having the original artist just do my hair. I look at the other woman's IG and I see ONE black woman deep in her IG. No! At this point trust has been broken and I'm believing everyone's portfolio at face value - it's clear there is no expertise with black women. I tell Taylor no, and her immediate response is defensive. It's important to point out that both the suggested MUA were women of color- but neither were dark skin and neither were black. It became very clear in my correspondence with Taylor that she had conflated being a woman of color with expertise in black women, when not only was no one black, no one had a portfolio to suggest they really work with black women on a frequent basis. Taylor saying "we work with all skin tones" is not only misleading, it's an outright reckless statement. Although the situation was later somewhat rectified through a partial refund, this was after I already came up with my own game plan: to make an emergency Sephora run the morning of and do my own makeup. I had also spent the night before my wedding going back and forth with Taylor trying to explain why her team's capabilities should have been explained to me before I booked. Ultimately I chose to write this review because of what was stolen from me: I spent the morning of my wedding balling my eyes out -- that is a memory I will never get back and will be forever spoiled. What was supposed to be a relaxing morning where I reflected on one of the biggest moments of my life, was instead chaotic. I don't blame my MUA for taking a job that was assigned to her, but I do blame Taylor for not having the foresight to critically think about the potential harm it could cause to assume her artists have expertise outside of their obvious scope. Consider this your RED FLAG. QUIT 2 WEEKS BEFORE MY WEDDING! Regrettably, I must share my profoundly disappointing experience with this hair and makeup vendor. This company, particularly Taylor the owner, who boldly proclaims their high standards, marred what should have been a joyous occasion - my wedding. It has taken me several months to actually let this all sink in and get over the stress of it all but I still look back with one regret on my wedding day... Contour Bridal. Despite their lofty prices and assurances of unwavering standards on their website, the reality was far from the advertised excellence. A brides makeup is 720$ in fall 2023 - (600$ plus mandatory 20% gratuity - travel or fees not included). On their website it says "during our first conversation, we will discuss the hair and makeup you're looking for and from there you will be matched with the best artist for your style. Once deposit is received, your artist will reach out to introduce herself." None of this happened. Two weeks prior to the wedding, stressed as I was, I had to chase them down for information(I had booked more than 6 months prior!). After minimal discourse about my dissapointment with the lack of communication given their prices the vendor abruptly quit, leaving me in a state of panic and deprived of the opportunity to assess their so-called excellence. Attempting to address the unmet promises led to further disillusionment. The real kicker? Instead of acknowledging their shortcomings, Taylor chose to sever direct communication and only engage through my wedding planner, displaying a lack of professionalism and accountability on every level. This vendor thinks they're above being accountable to the very clients who keep them in business. In the aftermath, this vendor remains a lingering source of regret. Their behavior was not only a breach of contractual obligations but a disheartening example of irresponsibility and disregard for the clients who trusted them with a significant moment in their lives. I caution others to exercise extreme caution when considering this vendor, as their actions reflect a lack of commitment and integrity to the very clients they are meant to serve that can profoundly impact your once-in-a-lifetime event. Taylor is all about pocketing high prices while doing the bare minimum. Criticism or challenges? Forget about it. If you want a spoiled vendor who only shows up when it's easy and cashes in without putting in the work, go for it. Just don't expect them to handle anything beyond smooth seas. read more
