I will say that Google inadvertently has her business listed as a "beauty school", and because she's legit across the street from the junior college, I booked because of all her great reviews but got nervous that I had actually booked at some cosmetology class inside of the college instead. Nope! The Wax Shack is poised behind a local law office, so I did need a little help making my way up to her actual door, but it was nothing major and the services were amazing. Will be back soon!

Julie at the Powder Room is the best hair stylist I have ever had! She has been doing my hair now for about 16 years and I honestly don't know what I would ever do without her! This past weekend I was part of a bridal party in which Julie did hair for 3 bridesmaids, the matron of honor and the bride herself. Every one of us looked AMAZING!! I was very worried about going first at 8am because the wedding didn't start until 4pm but Julie is such a master at the art of hairdressing that my hair never even moved from the very moment she did it. She took the time to place every one of the curls in their proper place and I felt so glamorous the entire day. I owe it all to Julie. I am still amazed that every piece stayed in place with no need for re-curling or re-spraying or anything (in fact I had curls for a few days after the wedding.) The bridal party members received so many compliments at the wedding and all the places we went to prior that I wished we had been given business cards to refer people to the POWDER ROOM. I've been going to The Powder Room for about two years. Corinne is my stylist. My hair is difficult to cut, but she always does a beautiful job on the cut and color. She knows her stuff inside and out. She's on-time, professional, and a lot of fun to talk to. Last time I was there she was about to go on maternity leave. She took some time to get all my info and ask questions so that she could match me with the right person in the salon to take care of me while she's away. She recommended a couple of other stylists, but also assured me that everyone that works there is excellent. I appreciate her professionalism and care, and it impressed me that she spoke highly of the other stylists. I'd also like to give a shoutout to the receptionist. Every single time I've had an appointment, I've been greeted immediately and asked whether I'd like something to drink. It seems like a small thing, but I think it's very important for businesses to take good care of their clients and make them feel valued. Deeanna provided hair and makeup for my 8-23-14 wedding at Ramekins in Sonoma. Overall, she did a wonderful job. She also did hair and makeup for my mom, the groom's mom and my maid of honor. Everyone was very happy with her work. She is a positive person, calm and easy to talk to - everything you would want in someone getting you ready for a big day! I came to the trial with some specific ideas and she was able to do exactly what I asked for (glam eyes with lots of lashes, flawless skin). She was also happy to make adjustments based on my feedback. On the day-of, I felt extremely confident that everything would go as expected, and it did! She replicated the trial makeup perfectly. Deanna called me the day before to confirm the appointment and showed up at the Kenwood on time. She too was very professional, friendly and exceptionally good at what she does. I found the gem of Sonoma County! It's a place called The Powder Room! I was referred to this salon by a make-up artist when I was at a benefit in Los Angeles. It was first class treatment from the moment I walked in the door. I had my hair cut and colored by Jenifer (one of the owners) and I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair since! Mary is so, so, so good at what she does. I got married in May and she did the hair and makeup for my mom, my husband's mom, and 2 of my bridesmaids. They looked sensational! I knew what I wanted my bridal hair to look like before I even knew what kind of dress I wanted. An up-do that I could be taken down for the reception. When I went in for trial, Jacque made my hair look exactly how I imaged and provided the tips I needed to take it down later as a practice run for the day of. My mind was set that this was how my hair was going to be, and then I watched an episode of Love is Blind that completely changed my mind. I called Jacque two weeks before my wedding telling her I was torn, she recommended another trail. She squeezed me in and I am so grateful she did, because the Love is Blind hair is what I ended up going with and I couldn't have been happier with it. The last thing I will say about the trial is that people tend to struggle with a foundation color for me because of my freckles, but not Jacque. She got it right on the first try! 3. The wedding day was flawless. Jacque brought two other stylists to help her and everything ran like clockwork and everyone look gorgeous! Not only that, but she made me a custom lipstick of the big day. A color made just for me! She also had lipsticks my wedding party could purchase day of. I've been a bridesmaid 10 times, and the lipstick is the first part of the makeup to go with out any options to reapply unless you bring your own (which I never remembered). This is just one example of how she goes above and beyond. If you are looking for someone to do your wedding hair and makeup or just a new hair stylist in general, look no more. Hearing him teach and coach Chloe during my appointment was such a nice experience and really showed how much the team values quality, education, and helping their stylists grow. I had to bring my son with me, and everyone was so accommodating and welcoming. I was nervous because it had been a very long time since I'd had a haircut, but Chloe & Matthew answered all of my questions and made me feel completely at ease. I was so happy with my haircut that I booked another appointment before I left. I'm already looking forward to coming back!

Because the wedding location was not close to where I live, we weren't able to do a trial beforehand. We shared inspiration ideas and spoke on the phone during the months leading up to the event, so that she knew exactly what I was going for and it turned out exactly how I'd hoped! I wanted to wear my hair back because the location was windy and it stayed up and in place for the entire event! Katie arrived on time, was incredibly professional, kind and a pro at keeping the vibe calm and relaxed. A dream to work with, I highly recommend her!

She showed up right on time, was super organized throughout the day, and kept us on schedule with time for a few last touch ups/modifications before the ceremony. She is full of positive energy and was so easy to get along with. I did a hair trial with her before the wedding to get a scope of what I wanted and she was very helpful during that - sharing pictures and advice about what options worked well/some that didn't based on my hair type and dress. Costs were very reasonable for everything compared to some others stylists I had scoped in SF/Oakland/Marin. I highly recommend Mary and Whimsy! to anyone looking for wedding hair/makeup services.

I was so grateful to have worked with Stella on my wedding this past May. She did such a beautiful…read morejob with my look and was extremely patient when we needed to make a few tweaks. Coordinating the intensive schedule (we had 13 people needing hair and makeup in the span of 4 hours) was made so much easier by her flexibility, and she made my bridesmaids and mom look so beautiful, too! Two things that were really important to me when hiring a hair stylist were 1) ability to work with textured hair, and 2) being LGBTQ-inclusive. She absolutely nailed the assignment, and my bridesmaids who I was particularly sensitive about when hiring the beauty team felt so well taken care of and welcomed by her. This was the best gift to start out the day. The company we hired for some of the other party members ended up botching my flower girl's textured hair a bit, and Stella stepped in after they left and stayed late to help fix it - no charge. I didn't even know this had happened until my mom told me a month later, and it truly touched my heart. I didn't know I could love her more - she is absolutely the best!
