René and his team were recommended to my husband and I by our flooring contractor. While his fee quote was not the lowest but still within the ballpark, René went out of his way to find areas of improvement in our home. For example, the original staircase from the second to the third floor was a bit narrower than the landing on the third floor. Rene suggested we extended the staircase, so it would be a seamless and straight railing transition as we got to third floor. This staircase extension suggestion would also address where the second floor railing would end. This issue was something we had been living with for years, but has never noticed. After Rene pointed out, the suggestions made sense. It took 5 days for Rene and his team to complete the work. They were professional, on time and worked long days to get the job done. In addition, they tried to protect areas from dust as much as they could. This review is long overdue. I've been fortunate enough to have Rene renovate my stairs on 2 occasions -- once in our townhome, and most recently in our new home. Rene, his son, and his crew all work REALLY hard and they are GREAT at what they do! Most importantly, they are honest, hardworking guys who deliver high quality results. They only do 1 job at a time and work really long hours (like 6:30am - 8pm), so you know that they are only focused on your home and are accessible to you if you have any questions or input. I believe our townhome took about 3 days to complete, and our new home was a 4 day job. When we lived in our townhome, Rene helped turn our "loft style" stairs (aka basic plywood with a missing rail) into a more modern look. Every person who came to visit us commented about the quality of the stairs (even my stepfather-in-law, who's a carpenter!). They were able to increase both the width and depth of each step, and also remove that "creaking" sound that many steps have. In our new home (built in the 1960's), our stairs looked to almost be the original stairs -- balusters could be pulled off, the wood trim was falling apart, and the carpet... well, let's just say that it all had to go. However, these stairs were very narrow, which is always difficult when carrying a toddler down or when the grandparents come visit. Rene and team worked their magic again, giving us a beautiful craftsman style stair with iron balusters to help us balance traditional and modern. In addition, they were able to open up our foyer by doing a twist step on the landing and also added almost 1-1.5" depth + 3" width on each step... AMAZING! Rene is my go-to guy for stairs, and you can bet that if any of my friends or family are planning on upgrading their stairs, I will be referring Rene 100%. Rene and his team are true professionals! They were able to update the original stairs in our home to a much more modern look. After our initial consultation we decided on the style and went with him recommendation to use white oak which turned out great! He also recommended widening our steps and modifying the top area into a full step (it was an awkward and dangerous 45 degree step) He has so much experience and it shows in the details and how we responds to customer's questions and concerns. Rene is an owner/operator and on the jobsite as well to ensure everything is up to his standards. They started early and finished in the job in less than a week due to having to work around other contractor's schedules. After the job was finished he protected the stairs very well so other trades wouldn't damage his work. I had an issue with the LVP installer after the stairs were complete and Rene came over the next morning to help troubleshoot and taught me the correct way to install the flooring (LVP installer was cutting corners). Rene does things the right way and the quality of his work really shows. He also has a network of tradesmen to complete almost any type of job. My husband is ecstatic with the results of the project. This was his baby. Be persistent with communication. I had to repeatedly text. Then all of a sudden on a Sunday night, I asked him if he was interested in the project. I figured he was not. He said he was and could begin work on that Wednesday. By that Saturday I had a completely new staircase! The team works very hard and long hours. It was very exciting watching them make the stairs in front of my house. I highly recommend this team. The only hiccup was when Rene, for unknown reasons, allowed a neighbor to deposit a dog in my backyard. I don't know whose dog it was, but when I open my garage door it bounded towards me and my dog. It scared me to death! I was pissed =/. It also ran out of my open garage into the alley, so whosever dog it was got loose again. This was the biggest and only hick up in the whole process. There are some communication difficulties. Note: Your 50% deposit check is made out directly to Rene. It was disconcerting to write a check for $9K to a person that we just met 30 min prior. The only reason we did was because of Yelp. We were still nervous and oh so relieved when his truck pulled up right on time on Wednesday morning. My project cost over $18K.
