I purchased the yelp deal and called to set up an appointment to have an issue with my furnace addressed. Appt was set for 12-2, Friday 1/9/15. By 2pm no one had called or showed up. I left a message at the office and received a call back approximately 10 minutes later. Bill, One of the owners, explained that one of their techs had called in sick but that no one was notified because they thought there was a possibility he would still make it in. I expressed my frustration at having had to waste three hours of my time a top having to leave work early and asked bill if I could get a refund on my yelp deal. Bill said he did not know if they offered refunds but said he would happily refund my money if I sent him an email. He followed that up by saying that he was hoping to have an opportunity to correct their mistake and conduct the service as planned. I told him two very specific times that would work with my schedule. They were able to accommodate the request and bill said he was going to "see what he could do" to further rectify my dissatisfaction. They were able to send out Sean, another tech, the very next day. Sean was pleasant, thorough, and fixed the problem with my furnace. Furthermore they discounted my service for the Friday inconvenience. I am very hard to please when it comes to righting wrongs in regard to poor customer service. But I was pleased with their ultimate efforts and plan to use their services again in the future. read more

Knowledgeable and honest A/C contractors are few and far between, and Controlling Systems (CS) is one of them. My system has had a leak for a few years, requiring an annual recharging. Previous contractors said they could not find the leak, and the entire system would have to be replaced. The CS technician offered an alternative, saying the leak was fairly small and a dye/leak seal compound could be added to help find and possibly stop the leak. It will likely take a year before it becomes apparent, if the substance doesn't stop it, but should save me from having to replace everything. Thanks Controlling Systems! read more

My furnace needed regular maintenance. Weary of large companies trying to sell me memberships (and convince me to replace fully functioning appliances), I tried Controlling Systems. I was able to get an appt for the next day. The technician, Gus, showed up within the time window, calling first to update me on his arrival time. He was efficient. He told me a certain part was possibly starting to wear out, but assured me I could wait until it failed to replace it (rather than pressuring me into replacing it now). My AC unit wasn't cooling so I called Controlling Systems. I was told by the technician that he found a freeze stat inside coil and there was a blockage in evap coil inside the house and they recommended replacing for $1500.00. I had another company come out for a second opinion. They tightened electrical connections and cleaned air cooled condenser outside and now my ac works fabulous! It only cost me $95.00. I also had purchased the voucher on YELP for $35.00 for Controlling Systems only to be told you cant use it for the diagnostic which cost me $154.00. So now I'm out $35.00 plus the $154.00 for the incorrect diagnosis. read more

Here is my experience with Controlling Systems: I had a deadline to replace a furnace. I had a contract on my house and had to get a new furnace and flue ASAP after the buyer's inspector found problems with the old flue and furnace. The HVAC guy my realtor recommended highly was leaving town and couldn't do the job. I had used Controlling Systems once before on a rental property so I called them in for a bid. They looked at the job, said the flue needed to be replaced and the only way to do it was to install a 90% furnace that they could vent through the wall (a blatant falsehood I was later to discover. They just wanted to sell me the higher priced furnace.) They said they would pull a permit with the city and take care of the paperwork and inspections. Another lie. I needed the job done yesterday since I was under contract so I bit the bullet and signed the contract to replace the furnace. The day they showed up to do the work they informed me that the heater would not fit through the crawl space door. They told me my options were: 1. cut a hole in the foundation. 2. remove the newly installed carpet and cut a hole in the floor in order to get the furnace into the crawlspace. A choice between two evils. With my closing a week away I had to make a choice and get it done. I let them cut a hole in the floor because at this point I figured if they messed with the foundation, knowing them now, they would probably undermine the foundation. They messed up the job and after they were done I had to go back in and reinforce the sagging floor that they caused. Also, the drain line for the furncace leaked water. And they never called for an inspection. No wonder! When I finally got the city inspector out he found code violations. Would I recommend Controlling Systems to a friend? No way! read more

Controlling Systems installed our Amana unit 15 years ago and it has worked great. Had capacitor replaced twice but that's it. This time was going to have to wait 10 days because they are so busy, but had a cancellation and came 4 days earlier. Was really happy about that. All this high 90 degree weather. Sean, the tech has come out both times so that is nice knowing someone stays with the company. So all in all was so happy because thought for sure we were going to have to pay thousands for a new unit. You can trust them. They will only do what has to be done. I had controlling system clean the hot-water heater and fix a kitchen valve in my house. It was easy to get hold of someone over the phone and schedule the service. Sean who did the work arrived a bit late but he called to inform me that he was running late. He was very patient with explaining everything and recommend maintenance, and I think he did a great job replacing the valve and flushing out the hot-water heater. He mentioned the heater is very old and may need replacement soon (I was told the same thing by the inspector of the house before). We left right after he finished his work and didn't return until the next evening. We came in the house and found the heater was draining out hot water and flooded our laundry room. I called Sean and he picked up immediately, gave me instruction to shut off the water to the heater. Then he squeezed in the repair next morning. It turned out the release valve was bad and it was replaced. It took a couple times that day to get it fixed. Sean then called my back later that week to quote me the repair, which was also very reasonable. Although the first time working with him wasn't as smooth as I expected, I do think Sean did a great job and he was very courteous. I won't be hesitate to schedule future services with them again. read more

I was so scared that I had to have my HVAC system coils completely replaced, because that's really expensive. I didn't have to do that and it was a quick repair... Just a washer! I had my repair done by one of the members of Controlling Systems. It did take two persons, but I was very happy with the outcome. The first wasn't so great but I was very happy with the second gentleman. I believe his name was Sean. He's was so nice an professional. Sean came over right on time and cleaned and serviced our 19 year old systems. He told me the good and the bad and what might need to be repaired/replaced in the future but DIDN'T PUSH AT ALL TO REPLACE THE FURNACES BECAUSE THEY WORKED WELL - UNBELIEVABLE! What a great company! i have had my share of issues with central AC I had installed in 2004. Had service calls done about 5 or 6 times by original installer who was never really able to fix it and seemed fairly clueless about why it wasn't working properly. Finally after alot of internet research and checking out reviews I called Controlling Systems and spoke at length to Bill the owner. He said he would send me out his best guy Brent. He was "on time" which is impressive, but best of all after 2 hours of work he found and fixed the problem. It now works like it did when it was new for the first time in years. These guys came and installed a unit from the request of our contractor. They installed one of the units incorrectly and it burned up the motor. They had to come and install a whole new motor. All the while our home smelled like burnt hair. Not once did they say "hey we are sorry." They installed one of the drainage lines that actually drained out all over our house and window. I have attempted to get them to correct this and they completely blew me off. These guys are completely unprofessional.
