    Hotdog with fries

When you need a late night meal and everything else is closed, where do you go? Cook Out is always open late and they have very low prices that won't break the bank. Customer service is greatly appreciated and employees are very patient while you decide what to order. Food is flavorful and satisfying. Hotdogs are only $1.99, wow, what a great price. Ordered the pulled pork platter and it hit the spot. I was amazed at the huge amount of flavors that they had for milkshakes. Tried the pineapple and it was so good, also tried the blueberry and it was delicious.

It's yummy! It's cookout! However today, the day after Thanksgiving in 2025 someone or something burnt the heck out of all the food. Happy holidays and please cook our food a little less so we can taste that yummy cookout flavor more.

Cookout tray - big double burger with Cajun fries and onion rings

I haven't had Cook Out in YEARS and we got a craving for it last night. I ordered a tray (of course) with a big double burger, onion rings, and cajun fries. The burger wasn't big and it definitely wasn't a double... it was very clearly a single small burger. They also forgot to add the condiments I asked for. The onion rings and cajun fries are just how I remember them. My husband's milkshake was full of little pieces of ice which was off putting to the otherwise creamy milkshake texture. Not sure what was going on at this location but it wasn't the best experience I've ever had. I understand this is fast food but it missed the mark for us.

    Drive-through

Not sure why the reviews are so low, but our experience was pretty good! Upon arriving at the drive-through, we were the second car in line to order. When we got up to the speaker, we were asked to wait a few minutes, and then again we waited in line to get to the pick-up window, where we paid and got our food. I'd estimate it took about 15 minutes total, which is a while if you're expecting fast food. So it's helpful to know that you should arrive with plenty of time. Also, they don't take AmEx. Food is tasty and very affordable. We ordered a Double Tasty burger tray with cajun fries & chicken nuggets as sides, plus a Coke and an a la carte Peach Cobbler milkshake. The burger was a good size, tasted very fresh, and came with lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese. Although the side of chicken nuggets were only three nuggets, they were yummy and went well with the Cookout sauce. Cajun fries were plentiful - and plenty salty. Watch out if you're watching your sodium intake. Coke cup was FULL of ice, so I recommend asking for light ice so that you have more drink to enjoy. The Peach Cobbler shake was super delicious and tasted like summer. I'd happily get this again and can't wait to try more flavors! There were bigger chunks of peach and cobbler crunchies in the shake, so having a spoon in addition to the straw is helpful. Overall a solid option that I'll definitely check out again!

BBQ Sandwich tray with fries and nuggets

Friendly-caring staff. Meals made hot and ready. I enjoy coming up with milkshake concoctions here. The price is fair. My favorite is the pulled BBQ sandwiches. I always make it a tray with nuggets and fries with bbq sauce. Can't get no better. The hot dogs are good too. Perhaps better than the burgers. It neat this location has a dine in area much like the Matthews location.

The food was good, served hot and tasty. The service was okay, worker wasn't super kind and friendly but he didn't come off as rude or anything so it was chill. Overall, a good location, it's quiet and the food is given to you fairly fast even with a long drive thru line. Ps. The location plays a Christian Radio all the time, if that's an issue for you.

Very fast service despite two really long lines! Ordered a bbq sandwich tray and a shake. You can't beat $7 for dinner and a shake. Sandwich was good. The fries were ok, hush puppies were good. The shake was not very good, didn't finish it. Impressed with service. I'd come here again but try different sides and skip the shake! Convenient location.

    Never Again!

The worst fast food experience ever! Ordered a BLT plate with Onion Rings and Hushpuppies. Sandwich had no tomatoes, a very sad piece of lettuce. Hushpuppies and Onion Rings are RAW!! NEVER AGAIN! Stay away the 29 Parkway location in Concord!

This cookout is walking distance from the Atrium Health hospital. My sister was having surgery and we decided to grab some goodies for our waiting room stent. I actually drove over. There is only one drive thru line unlike other locations who have the 2. The line is very quick. The menu is the normal cookout menu. The cheese bite we order were kinda lukewarm while the chicken nuggets were fresh out the grease. Overall the experience was good. I have no complaints. Will definitely be back to this location. Me and my sister went in and ordered a shake, soda and one hot dog with relish and mustard. We got the shake, soda and had to wait for the ONE hot dog. No joke it took a half hour to get the ONE hot dog. They had it sitting in the back on the counter and it was ice cold. We will never go there again. The place was basically empty when we went it. Lol.

Sometimes simple of the way to go. Lettuce, American Cheese, tomatoes, crinkled pickles, onions, and their "good good sauce." This all came together with the 100% premium angus beef (antibiotic and hormone free) smash-burgers perfectly cooked. The fried were very good, nicely crispy, but not overdone. Service was friendly and very quick. I highly recommend this place if you want a great burger.

Optimist Hall itself is a very food-centric, upscale food hall with a ton of vendors, so the atmosphere is energetic and fun. Seating can be a little challenging during peak dinner hours since so many people are grabbing food from different spots, but when the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor seating. Harriet's keeps their burger formula refreshingly simple. It's a classic smash burger done right--made to order with a straightforward menu that doesn't overcomplicate things. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and the burgers come out hot and fresh. One of the best parts of eating here is the flexibility of the food hall experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a craft beer, a glass of wine, or even browse for dessert from one of the other vendors. Insider tip: Come with a group if you can. It's a great place to share fries and let everyone explore different vendors around the hall. Parking is fairly easy with the nearby garage, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. Overall, Harriet's is a fun, delicious stop for a smash burger, especially if you're already enjoying the energy of Optimist Hall.

As a West Coast transplant now living in Charlotte, I have very specific standards when it comes to…read moreburgers. For me, the gold standard isn't fancy -- it's balance. Think that perfect meat-cheese-bread ratio you get at an In-N-Out: not too big, not too messy, not dripping everywhere, but still juicy and satisfying. A burger you can actually pick up and enjoy without resorting to a knife and fork like George Costanza. That's why I appreciate Ace No. 3. Their menu is refreshingly simple -- burgers, fries, shakes -- and that simplicity tells me they know exactly what they do well. Everything is made to order, and the consistency shows. The Ace burger is my go-to, and it delivers every time. The shoestring fries are excellent, and the sweet potato tots are another favorite. I've also treated myself to a milkshake here and there, and they're worth it. Fun bonus: they offer "boozy shakes" for adults, which adds a playful twist -- just note they have to be enjoyed on site. They also keep a short, rotating list of beers, which I appreciate. It's curated, not overwhelming. One thing I noticed recently -- and as a fellow marketer, I have to applaud this -- is their milkshake happy hour from 2-4 PM. That's a smart strategy to drive traffic during slower hours between lunch and dinner. Simple, effective, and well executed. A few practical notes: Parking can be a little tight because the lot behind the restaurant is small, but if you go during off-peak hours or order ahead for pickup, it's manageable. The Belmont neighborhood location is easy to get in and out of, and while it's not a high-traffic pedestrian area, that can actually work in your favor. Bottom line: As someone who grew up with West Coast burger culture, this is the closest I've found in Charlotte to that classic, satisfying bite -- even if it costs a bit more than In-N-Out. The quality and execution make it worth it. Get out there, eat well, be curious -- and follow me as I continue eating my way through Charlotte.
