I enjoyed this location. While in town for a basketball tournament we needed Fast Fuel and we love Cookout! The Out West & Cheddar Style Double burgers were delicious. Charbroiled and just like we Iike them. My cheese bites and Cheesecake were also delicious. Excellent customer service. I purchased a Strawberry shake August 4, 2025 in Hickory, NC. I was enjoying it as I was shopping at Hamricks, however after eating about 3/4 there was a hard object come thought the straw...it was a piece of PENCIL! I immediately threw the shake away before thinking I should have taken it back to Cookout. This was totally disgusting and I will never purchase any food products from there especially shakes. One day I ordered a burger and it was great, thick, juicy and done. The second time it was like a smash burger and terrible. This was very distrubing because they've only been open a couple months. So this review is going to be for their milkshakes as I've never eaten anything else from there I've been getting the watermelon milkshake which did not sound good to me was recommended by my boyfriend and OMG I am such a huge fan we get about three shakes a week. I normally regular this cookout after work but the last five times; and I legitimately mean five, i've stopped here i've had issues with my order. Now I'd understand if something gets messed up every once in a while but it feels a little... intentional at this point and I feel like i've been extremely understanding up until tonight. The order itself is correct, the food on the inside.. not so much. The night staff is rude beyond belief, maybe with the exception of one or two employees. I understand working late nights can be frustrating, but i'm sorry, I don't understand how someone could throw burnt onion rings and a hotdog with the wrong toppings in a box and say it's good. Makes no sense to me. These onion rings are so burnt the onion is disintegrated inside and they're black around the edges. Like cmon now... Fast, pretty cheap, and typically tasty. And keep on giving them a try. Biggest issue I have with this location, in particular, is that they SERIOUSLY need to upgrade their "intercom" systems. I totally understand that they are trying to get people in as quickly as possible and I can respect that (and I also try to be forgiving as possible when it comes to the food industry as its daily criticized - but they can't hear me, I can barely hear them because they talk so fast and because that they frequently get the orders wrong. UPGRADE mics, speakers, headsets.... Whatever y'all use and this could easily be a 4-5 star rating. Communication is the largest part of service. If there communication is lacking then the service will equally be lacking. Can't necessarily blame anyone who is taking orders but the owners are more-so to blame. read more

I'm so tired of this particular location in capable of making a correct milkshake. I have ordered Time and Time again from here and multiple other locations a simple pineapple milkshake! But this is the only location that cannot do it right A pineapple milkshake usually consists of pineapple! But every single time I order one from this location I get maybe one or two pieces at most in an entire cup of ice cream! Every other location a handful to make you at least believe it's a pineapple milkshake. I've had much better experience with the left-side servers, their cheerful attitudes are contagious! The food is pretty mediocre. This location didn't have indoor seating (not sure if that's all locations), just a drive thru and pickup window. The prices were great, but I wasn't excited about the execution of my food. I got the chicken strips, banana pudding milkshake, Cajun fries, and hush puppies. None of these were amazing. Banana pudding milkshake literally tasted like you were attempting to drink straight banana chunks with bits of dried wafer. Chicken strips were dry and tasted like frozen grocery store strips. Fries were soggy and seasoning was only on half of them. If you just want a quick snack under $5 this is the place, but other than that, it's not super satisfying if you wanted that southern cook out flavor. read more

I have no problem with the food- usually it is made to my liking and they are efficient at not waiting in line for too long. The problem I have is that my order is NEVER right. Just tonight I ordered a burger with fries and hush puppies. I get home, open the box, burger with no toppings I asked for and cheese curds. I have even received completely different people's orders. I am EXTREMELY infuriated at the lady that took my husbands order at the 127 Hickory location at 10:33pm tonight. He had JUST got off of work, tired, hungry and the girl continuously gave him an attitude because she obviously does not like her job, as he was trying to order. He told her in the beginning he wanted two plates, and went on to tell her what he wanted on both which was the exact same accept one fry and one onion ring. She proceeds to tell him they do not do hot dogs as a side anymore. My husband said ok that's fine do both plates with hushpuppies as the second side. She gets an attitude and says "I need you to tell me exactly what you want because your giving me three sides". My husband proceeds to tell her, "I need one cheeseburger plate with hush puppies and fries", she interrupts and says "ok is that all?" My husband says no, as I said in the beginning (very calmly) I needed TWO plates, the second plate ANOTHER cheeseburger plate with hushpuppies as well abut that one with onion rings." He drives up and she pretty much through the food at him still with an attitude, rolling her eyes, and my husband is a very calm person and never defends himself so I am! He asked her for honey mustard and she gave him a mean look like it was an issue. I am sorry but just because it is a Saturday at 10pm, does not mean every person coming through the line is drunk! My bus stopped at this place on the way home from a conference trip. It resembles a Checkers, you can order outside. No inside seating. I wasn't sure about this place at first. It was 50 something hungry people all lined up to get some food. Could they handle it? Mark my words...YES THEY COULD! I LOVE this place! The prices are cheap. I ordered a tray...a burger, two sides and a drink for 5.99. Wow! The cashier was nice too, and handsome. Great and quick customer service. To put the icing on the cake, the food was delicious. Please check your food. I went back to get my food fixed and paid them and it was still jacked up. I order grill chicken and you can not get your teeth in the grill chicken seasoned frys with no seasoning, cajun wrap with a old chicken tender. The best thing about the meal was the tea. Everything else was just bad. My family loves their food but why spend 20 a day and your food is jacked up. I will not be back. This is a great fast food place to eat at. They are fast, very friendly and the food is a wonderful deal for what you get! We work up the road at Frye hospital, and we eat here at least once a week. The orders are always accurate, the shakes are very good. I love the BBQ plate. Kudos for a great bunch of workers who know what service is about. I've never had a grumpy face greet me, and they are always happy to take your order. This crew deserves five stars.
