We were traveling thru Troutman during lunchtime and I found Kat's Patch on Yelp. It sounded like what we were looking for, so we stopped by. It was a slow-busy day, customers trickled in, but at a steady pace. It's been in business for a few decades, so we weren't surprised at the amount of people who knew each other. We ordered at the counter, sat in a booth, and had a brief wait, since the food is freshly prepared. Soon our food was ready. My husband ordered the "super pimento burger." (It was super because it was larger than the regular burger.) The burger was one of the best diner burgers we've tried. Hand molded, crispy edges, tender middle, and as tasty as could be. The pimento cheese was good, and the bun was very fresh. I had the foot long chili cheese dog. Simple, with American cheese, and a nice mild chili; the dog was grilled and the bun was soft. It was just what I wanted. We didn't order fries and I'm glad because the servings were just the right size. For dessert, we each had a fried apple hand pie. (I had seen the signs on the outside window and knew I just had to have one.) They were also made and cooked on demand and were absolute perfection: crispy, delicate crust, with a juicy apple pie filling. (Better than any other fast food place could dream of!) We are looking to come back for another enjoyable and very affordable lunch! (Tip: watch out upon entering the parking lot, there's a steep dip for low riding cars.) read more

I kinda like the overhead, 70s - 90s easy listening like randy bachman, thin lizzy, john mellencamp... but that just means old people eat here. real old. lost their mindfulness old. betting there's a home near here. lunch isn't really special so it comes in a little taller than andy jackson. a reasoable pile o' crinkle-cuts wrapped up to keep 'em warm. lightly salted and nicely frenched but could have been a little crispier. two tired hot dogs 'all the way' (beanless fine-textured chili, chopped white onions, and creamy white slaw) on warmered buns, moist but not damp. regular people food at budget friendly prices ain't nothing to be ashamed of but I'll have to get back for breakfast and mebbee a burgery thang and see if the needle moves. read more

I stopped by here around 3:05pm on a Saturday afternoon (1/25/25) after finishing a training nearby. I found this place on Google and decided to stop by as I wanted to try a local establishment. When pulling in, I noticed they have a drive thru window for call in orders. There is an entrance on both sides of the building. They have outdoor seating on one side. There was a lady in front of me who appeared to be a regular. My wait to order was brief. I told the cashier it was my first time there. She couldn't give me any solid recommendations as "I'm very picky" and "eat at the same restaurants" but "this isn't one" LOL. She added "I just work here." That gave me pause. I don't know many people who work at a food establishment that haven't had their food... especially if you work as a cashier. She did give some recommendations and I opted for a burger as she mentioned they are prepared and cooked fresh vs frozen patties. I ordered a Double bacon cheeseburger (with bbq sauce) with hush puppies and a sweet tea at 3:12pm. It was a little over $13. They take orders on a traditional order pad. I was given the bottom with a number when my order was ready. I was given a cup of ice to get my own drink. The sweet tea was PERFECT, Southern style sweet tea. They do have unsweetened tea and lemonade along with foundation drinks. My order was ready at 3:17pm, which was fairly quick. While seating, I noticed many tables were dirty and not cleaned, even though they were empty and had been for a while. The floor wasn't the clean either as I noticed trash and dirty under the tables and in the walking areas. I sat at the table by the TV. When looking up at it, I could tell it was dirty and hadn't been cleaned in a while. My hush puppies were hot and delicious. When I unwrapped my burger, I immediately noticed my bun was cold, which was disappointing. It was also dry... The patties were a decent temperature but the cold buns threw things off, for me. It looked and tasted like it was cooked well done. They didn't ask what temperature I wanted it cooked and it's likely because they may not know how to prepare the various styles. Most of the staff were young, likely teens or early 20s. I did see an older gentleman as well. I saw one staff scratching/rubbing his beard and his arm along with being on his phone in the food service/area. I saw another person scratching his neck and back. I didn't see either of them wash their hands afterwards. I was present when another order came in. The former put on one glove and began preparing the food... without washing hands. Apparently, there is no designated area for eating or drinking as I watched the staff do as they please around the kitchen. Honestly, they shouldn't be eating in the kitchen anyway... It was very unsanitary and I wished I hadn't witnessed the things that I did as I was eating. Staff need more training on food safety. Dining room needed attention and cleaning but staff opted to be in a circle and chit chat in the kitchen during down time. It wasn't busy at all during my 40 minutes there. With current operating procedures and practices, I do not and would not recommend this place. I don't plan on returning if I'm in the area again. read more

Today for lunch I decided on a familiar staple in the Troutman area: Kats Patch and decided upon the Pimento Cheese Burger and some Tater Tots. Along with a friend, I ordered a to-go order and was so disappointed when my food arrived. I was hungry so I went right for the tots and to my surprise when I pulled back the paper half the tots, they split in two, were in the tray and half were stuck to the paper they were wrapped in. I had to take a double look I was so shocked. It's not the first time I have ordered tater tots to go so I expected the same quality I always had, if not better. I finally resolve I would not be eating quality tots. On to the burger. This was my first time ordering the Pimento cheese burger. I carefully unwrapped it with none stuck to the paper, I take a look and then a big bite. The overall composition is well, however the onions would be better if cooked longer and the cheese a touch less greasy. The taste and flavor of the burger was spot on and I enjoyed it very much, despite the mess we made. In the end I still felt like something was missing. Maybe a fresh tomato? Just a suggestion. Out of 5 stars 2 are given because at least the burger was somewhat edible. Not sure what causes food to stick like this. Do better Kats Patch!!! read more

It's hard to believe a staple of a restaurant in Troutman has gone so far bad, a 1 star is too good to give it. Not sure what has happened to Kat's Patch but the food is terrible and what's worse if you're going to serve terrible food at least serve it hot and not cold. Livermush and egg on bun taste like it came out of fridge. After 1 bite, I threw out the window. One person working there was too busy outside smoking a cigarette with the gloves she serves food with -yuck!! Did take out about 2-3 weeks ago. Not just one hair, but 2 were found in my baby girl's cheese burger. Called restaurant to let them know; they put the manager on phone and he advised if we bring the burger back, they would give us another one. And he apologized. I've worked in Statesville for the last 12 years and have dined here on numerous occasions. Service is spotty at best and there have been occasions where I ended up leaving before my meal was served . Today was no exception. Walked and went to the counter because there was no line. Ordered the Pork Chop Sandwich with Fries and unsweetened tea. Gave me the tab of the order pad that indicated I was #52. On my way they called #48 so not bad. 25 minutes later we are up to # 51 but they are also calling out #57, 58 and #59. The food quality continues to decline alongside the service. Each time we visit it seems as though there is something wrong with our order or it is no good. Lacking flavor and often the incorrect temperature, the food could use improvement. The more people that are packed into the kitchen, the less it seems your order is heard. Had breakfast here today and was delighted with my food. I ordered a baloney, egg and cheese biscuit. The egg was fluffy and the thick slice of baloney was twice the size of the biscuit. Everything was perfectly cooked. The staff were not particularly friendly and the place is not fancy at all. Rolls of paper towels placed on each table serve as napkins - my kind of place! The iced tea didn't have enough ice in it to properly cool the contents but the flavor was very good. read more

Just okay. I got the hamburger steak plate which is honestly just a lazy way of them giving you a patty and buns and letting you make the sandwich yourself. They do give you A1 Steak Sauce packets which is great on the burger and the fries. Otherwise I thought the flavor was pretty bland and boring. They have a ton of options for cold drinks, slushies, ice cream, etc. Other side items included hush puppies, tater tots, onion rings and curly fries. My father in law is visiting us from out of town so we decided to go out for dinner and decided to try one of the local places here in Troutman that we haven't been yet. We ended up deciding to get our food to go as there wasn't a ton of seating and there's 7 of us total. We waited a while for food which we expected as there's a lot of us, but when our food was ready, the cook walked right up to my husband and said very angrily and loud enough for the entire place to hear and right in front of my kids, "next time order ahead if you plan to get 10 f*cking boxes" (we didn't order 10 boxes but that's beside the point.) I understand that as it's Saturday they've been probably been busy, but he handled that very poorly and we will not be going back. read more

I can't see what people are complaining about! My family has been going to Kat's Patch since 2008 and we love it! Everything we have tried is wonderful and well priced. Get the hamburger "all the way" with chili and cole slaw or try their breakfast burritos. My personal favorite is their BBQ pork. In my opinion, it is the best BBQ pork I have ever had, and I eat a lot of BBQ pork. I will order a pound of BBQ pork and get a couple pints of chili and slaw for take out. The ice cream and shakes are legit also. On special occasions, we stop by and treat the kids to a shake or ice cream. On a side note, it's not your romantic sit down restaurant. The food is great, the prices are cheap, and the people are friendly. read more

We were in the area at a friend's lake house and didn't want to drive the 25 minutes to Mooresville to get the bagel place he suggested. Honestly, we made the right choice. To be sure, you've got to know what you're getting into when you walk in the door here. Between the three of us, we got pretty standard breakfasts and coffee - over medium eggs, grits, gravy, bacon (they don't skimp here).
