She kept switching over (3 times) to the other lane to take multiple cars orders. My car and myself were soaked from having my window open so long, just to order two meals. Cookout is a place I have been trying to get to every time I come to Virginia, I finally had the opportunity and let me just say it did disappoint to a certain degree. Me and my dad went to the location on Victory Blvd, very big and spacious on the inside and a clear easy to read menu. The gentleman at the counter was somewhat helpful but I just think that he was distracted because he was also running drive through and he also appeared to be having a full blown conversation with whoever he was talking to on his airpods. I got the double burger with double fries and a coke float. My dad got the double burger with chicken nuggets and onion rings. We got our food pretty quick. Food is made to order so it was fresh but it did not look like I received double fries and my dad only got like 5 onion rings but they were both crunchy and hot, The burger was delicious(its char-broiled). I had to go back up to the counter to ask for my coke float and they also forgot to add my cajun seasoning on the side. I was still a little hungry when we were getting ready to go so i ordered an additional side of onion rings. When i got them they were not fully done, the coating was literally falling off the onions. I asked for them to remake them for me. There was no type of acknowledgment or apology while correcting this service. When I got them back they still looked undercooked but I took them anyway with plans to pop them in the oven when I got home. Overall my rating is 2/10 for this location, the service was very sub par and there was a lot of small misses. I would encourage some re-training in the guest experience. But I did have the opportunity to go to the one on Military blvd once I landed and the food and service was wonderful so their rating would be an 8/10 only because I had a drive thru experience instead of dine in. read more

I will say the fries was the best thing and they were hot too so I was definitely pleased with them! At 1:46 Pm on 10/11/24 the women who handed me my food at the drive thru window pocketed the $7.03 that was my change. I didn't receive my change so we asked her about it. She proceeded to pull out the change from her pocket crumbled up. There was really no reason it should've been in her pocket period. Her intent was to steal it and when we asked for a manager she was hesitant. The manger pretended to cared but instead of letting her go on the spot after reviewing camera footage, he sent her on break. He went to his car to smoke and she sat in the parking lot. I must say this place is amazing. When I went I received the best customer service and they were patient due to it being my first time. I was surprised with how large their menu was. This is unfortunately the closest cookout to my house or I would not go here. Wondering if it would be worth it to cross the bridge at this point. The food is usually missing something to some degree or it's cold - tonight, it was cold, milkshake cup was noticeably broken and served to us leaking, and when we were asked if we wanted ketchup and responded yes was met with an attitude. Why ask if it's going to irritate you if we say yes? When we got there there was a line halfway around the building in one line and nobody in the other and there was no indication that the line was closed. We pulled into the empty lane and were asked to go to the back of the other lane, we did. 3 vehicles then pull into the empty lane that we were moved out of and are served/paid/gone before we were even to the speaker. The customer service here is extremely lacking, which I can honestly say might be a shift thing because around lunch time they're friendlier and on top of things. They're obviously short staffed, which is understandable but I'm not sure that's an excuse to be so rude to people. I'd say that this might be the worst location for service in Hampton Roads had it not been for the one on General Booth in VB. The one time I went inside it was like walking into a backroom of a fever dream. It wasn't the cleanest and was still in a pandemic ghost town-esque mode (in late 2023), most of the time I didn't even notice it was open inside because of how dark and stagnant it was. I normally love the food at Cookout and the service is normally good because it is a Christian place; however, this particular location has absolute jerks running it. We were ordering through the drive through and the employee left to help a different customer without telling us. Then another employee came and asked us to restart, then told us to wait because he had to do something. A third employee came on the speaker and told us to restart our order for the third time, and we said, "This is getting ridiculous." The employee then said, "Um, excuse me! What is so ridiculous?!" He spoke in the most shockingly rude manner I have ever heard an employee of any business speak. We told him that we restarted our order three times and we were upset. He said that he was new and did not appreciate us saying the service was ridiculous. He then told us that because he didn't appreciate our complaining, he was canceling our order and would call the police if we did not leave. We were pretty dumbfounded and asked for the employee's name so we could report them to corporate. He told us that he would not do that; so, we asked for the manager. He told us he was the manager (which we doubt since he did say he was new). We went ahead and left so the police didn't have to get involved. I know a lot of times, the customer is an idiot and the employee is just doing their job, and the customer gets mad and leaves a scathing review; however, I assure you this is not the case in this instance. Get your grub on The food is your basic and standard fried food eating flair. It is pretty tasty, compared to other fast food chains in the area. One recommendation: if you are not a regular patron of this establishment, do yourself a favor and go inside of the restaurant to order food. I say (or rather type this) this because the menu is so INTENSE. There are waaaay too many food choices with different combinations that you can make and you may feel that you are under the gun to order something fast in the drive through. I believe people have an irrational fear of being ignored at a two-lane drive thru. This is the only explanation I can come up with for why they're always empty. Cook Out is fairly new to Hampton Roads so the lines are crazy, spilling onto the busy streets. A situation like that can be avoided at this particular location because THERE ARE TWO DRIVE THRU LANES. So while six cars piled up in one line, I merged onto the empty one and had my order taken instantly. The burgers truly taste like a great homemade Fourth of July burger on the grill.
