We waited about 15 min while our waitress chit chatted with another table before coming to our table. We placed our drink and food order at the same it. We also asked if she could clean our table because it was very sticky. She rolled her eyes and said ok. We ordered the Cuban sandwiche and BBQ Cob salad with smoked turkey and egg rolls. The salad was missing the smoked turkey, the cuban was on sourdough and we asked for a bun, we asked for BBQ sauce only and it had mustard and BBQ sauce. The waitress brought out a plate with sliced smoked turkey, no knife on the table to cut it. About 10 minutes later she brought out the correct sandwiche. Everything was delicious. Tonight, I ordered sliced turkey to bring home for dinner. If you haven't tried it, Sonny's has some of the juiciest sliced turkey breast that you can find. (We combined it with our own sides and had a 'Thanksgiving' style dinner in February.) Because I recently signed up for Sonny's Rewards and downloaded their app, I received a free appetizer. I decided to try their fried okra which was absolutely delicious! Okra was cooked perfectly and came with a side of ranch dressing which was a nice compliment. (It's not on their menu, but some fried green tomatoes with the same breading that's on the okra would be awesome!) Truly surprised they have as good as a rating as they do considering they ignore the hostess desk and you have wait over 3 minutes or more before someone approaches you if you're lucky. Also make sure you arrive with your party as they won't seat you until they have arrived in full. Any complaints you may have you may just want to keep to yourself as the director of customer service for Sonny's of Lexington let's his employees at this location go rogue and let them fail to demonstrate de escalation and enables them to magnify and excuses their behavior why focusing on the customers behavior brought out by his employees. Also they run a special on Wednesday and staff 4 servers to execute seating and service. I have videos that the director didn't see, ask for my email to see them and to see how this establishment treats people with disabled individuals. This is the only place in my 40 years of life I have seen them pile up a line to be seated when they have an empty dining room as they keep walking by you as you're invisible. This is corporate business that has became complicit when it comes to the people who make it possible for them to be employed. Went there last night with the family. No host or servers in sight when we arrived. Customers were seated but no servers or host. Employee came out with food and finally let the other employees that were in the back. The waiter was excellent. The food was good besides the brisket. The brisket was dry and not edible. The sweet tea came out unsweet. Then we asked to get tea replaced with sweet tea. They brought back the same unsweet tea. Then we asked for sugar and they brought out Splenda. The salad is made up of mixed greens, grilled corn, tomato, cucumber, diced red onion and shredded Cheddar tossed with Ranch dressing and topped with crispy onion straws and a drizzle of Sweet BBQ Sauce. This was a very good salad! Large portions and I was unable to finish my meal. Our very friendly waitress was Raquel, and she did a great job topping off our drinks and checking on us throughout the meal. I didn't get them today, but they have 2 appetizers that I absolutely love: BBQ Pork (Redneck) Eggrolls and also their Corn Nuggets. Other appetizer options as well, but these are my top 2. I spent about $50 for me and my husband's food and I was so ready for the bbq eggrolls. I was told at the drive through to pull up because they were waiting for the eggrolls and they would bring them out. I waited several minutes and finally got my food, got home and the eggrolls wete missing. Then when I opened my meal the chicken was wrong. It was correct on the receipt but not in the box. I ordered take out from Sonny's and overall it was very good. Inside the restaurant did look clean but I did not go fully in due to getting a pick up order. I tried the smoked wings,pulled chicken,sliced turkey,sliced brisket, baked beans,mac and cheese, and banana pudding. The smoked wings were great smoke flavor and juice,I did get mine plain but I'd like to try the dry rub as it did seem a bit lacking but would definitely have again. The sliced turkey and brisket both had great flavor but were on the dry side but I kind of gave the benefit of doubt due to me getting it as takeout. The pulled chicken I was not a fan of the sauce they used on it, I also had a similar thought in the baked beans they just didn't taste quite right or good.The banana pudding and mac and cheese was middle of the road wasn't bad but wasn't nothing to write home about. Maybe it is a conflict for me to write this review as I have never liked Sonny's or most BBQ places. Typically, low end cuts of meat overcooked and slathered with sugar to make them tolerable to eat. However, I gave them another try. Amazingly bad! Ordered 2 of the Sampler Plates. Ribs of course were overcooked and barely tolerable. Even the wife said they were dry and she likes Sonny's. Brisket was the worst I have ever tasted. Literally crumbled, could not pick it up with a fork. had to scrape it up. Pork was awful but typical, dry no flavor. Did not eat. Chicken was overcooked but was tolerable. Sides were all good. Salad, Cole Slaw, Baked beans and green beans. Also expensive, I could have had a nice Rib-Eye for a few dollars more. Drove to Richmond for a soccer game and I was hungry as well and needing a restroom. The only coffee open was a Star based franchise as almost EVERYTHING but Kroger and the churches are closed on Sundays here. Sonny's popped up and it wasn't far from the high school where the game was bring played. They also had some good looking loaded tots. They gave me a few BBQ sauce options and I tried the smoky (pretty basic) and original (very sweet). I also got some chopped brisket which was a bit dry but at least it wasn't full of fat, because that's gross. All in all an acceptable meal and clean restroom. read more

Another great BBQ joint to try. I'm falling in love with all the good BBQ in Kentucky lately. Went to this place since all dine-ins are closed in Kentucky at this time and they have a drive-thru. I had the sliced brisket with sides of beans, cole slaw, and garlic bread. Sliced brisket was good although sliced very thin and not my favorite. But the cole slaw was great and the beans were heavently! Garlic bread was also very hearty, for bread that is. The lady at the window helped me with the sauces. I took a few of each and ended up liking the Original sauce the best. The Sizzling Sweet was also good. Overall this place was great quality with good sauces and friendly service. I hope I just happened to catch them on an off-day, a REALLY off day, because I can't give this BBQ more than 1 star. I ordered carry-out for my office for lunch today and it was very disappointing. I tried the pulled pork lunch special and some of the smoked turkey. The turkey was very dry and the pork was just mushy and tasted similar to something you'd get frozen at the grocery store. I really didn't like my meal one bit. The coleslaw was bland and didn't seem very fresh. It had way too much sauce on it but I do realize that's a personal preference and some people like it really creamy. The green beans were BRIGHT GREEN, Not a natural color at all. I threw most of them away in fear of Green Number X coloring I was eating. The cornbread muffin was ok. I noticed they have a salad bar and it looked like it might be good. This experience made up for my last bad experience at this Sonny's. Our server was much better keeping our drinks full for the entire meal. The food was hot and delicious. I always order the "big deal" combo with pulled chicken and mac and cheese. This comes with a BBQ sandwich, one side and your drink for 7.99. You can switch out a standard bun for garlic toast or cornbread. I always get the garlic toast. Sonya pulled chicken is my favorite pulled chicken of any BBQ place. We'll be back. read more

We have always enjoyed and frequented Sonny's Barbecue living in Fl for over 20 years.  A year ago we relocated to richmond, ky.and were happy to have a Sonnys nearby.  Unfortunately every time we ordered we had missing and wrong orders.  Food was over or under cooked and not as ordered, sides were wrong or missing and the price remained high.  We were no longer allowed to come inside to order and have a drink while waiting, by a very rude waitress. There is very poor or no management at all and the arttitude that nobody cares but just there for a paycheck!  It is sad to have to see how bad Sonny's is deteriorated here in Richmond and gives Sonny's a bad name. read more

Very poor experience. Waitress neglect, cold meats, items forgotten (but still charged). The manager came out (because the waitress wasn't empowered to address the cold food issue?!?!) and replaced the meats with warmed portions -as we were NOT looking for a free meal. But, we nonetheless had to transfer our side items to the new plate ourselves so he could take away the cold meats on our original plates. Pulled chicken was still very dry. Oh well. Ordered an extra side, which was forgotten. No biggie. When the waitress finally returned, she apologized and said she'd take it off the bill (which she didn't). After the bill, she never came back. Stopped in with my husband on our way home from Pigeon Forge for a late lunch. Our server, Summer, took our order promptly & brought our drinks right away. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes. I ordered a special for $7.99 which included pulled pork, sliced pork, a side(I had baked beans) & garlic toast - what a deal! My husband got a $9.99 special that included ribs, sliced pork, a side (he got Mac n cheese) & garlic toast. There are 4 of Sonny's BBQ sauces on the table: original, smokin', sweet, sizzlin'(spicy) - all really good. I combined the sweet with the sizzlin' & it truly enhanced the flavor of my sliced & pulled pork. If you have great smoked meat, you should have delicious BBQ sauce to put on it & Sonny's has certainly accomplished that. Our food was delicious, sides & garlic toast included. Sonny's BBQ is wonderful. We always get the all you can eat pulled pork with beans, fries, and cornbread. If you order the higher priced item you can get any of the lesser priced items also all you can eat. There is a variety of sauces available but I always get the sweet sauce. They also have a wonderful salad bar as an add on cost or you can get it as a separate all you can eat. It's just a short trip from Lexington but well worth the drive. read more

We stopped in for the lunch specials while we were in Richmond. The hostess and waitress were very nice and took good care of us; the waitress made some good suggestions on which sides to order. I got the pulled pork with baked beans and macaroni, and my husband got the baby back ribs with coleslaw and macaroni. Both specials came with garlic bread. The meat was spectacular. The ribs had been cooked in such a way that the sauce caramelized on the outside, which was amazing. The pulled pork was deliciously sweet without even putting any sauces on it. The four sauce options (mild, sweet, sizzling sweet, smoking) were delicious; my favorite was the sizzling sweet, which was sweet with enough heat to keep it from being overly so. The sides were mostly just OK. The beans were my favorite, and everything else was good but not great. I didn't like the garlic bread much at all, and my husband ended up eating most of it with his favorite sauce (the sweet). If I could, I'd give this place a solid 3.5 stars. Since that's not an option, I'm bumping this up to 4 for how good the meat and service were. read more

I hadn't been to Sonny's since I attended college at EKU, circa 2013. On our way through town after a night of partying, I had one thing on my mind- Food! We saw Sonny's off of 75 and went for it. I was so happy they still serve fried okra, which is by far my favorite menu item. The restaurant upgraded its interior, with sleek wood, concrete floors and new tables instead of booths. The salad bar was clean and appetizing. Our server was wonderful, and gave us plenty of time to look over the large menu. I wanted to try everything, so I got a combo with wings, brisket, and pulled pork. I was in meat heaven. The smoked taste was prominent and the smoky bbq sauce complimented the texture perfectly. The unsweet tea was fresh and satisfying. I ended up taking half of my meal home to eat the next day! Sonny's was absolutely as great as I remembered, and perhaps even better!
