Stopped by Cookies for the first time last week to see what all the hype was. This is the same location as the former Oaksterdam University. 11:30 on a Friday afternoon, and it was oddly quiet in Oakland. You can't miss the bright blue building on Broadway and 19th. You show your ID to the security guard, get wanded for metal, and open your bags. Step inside and show your ID again to get checked in. Then you get to the budtenders. The bright white light and room welcome you. The outer walls are display shelves of packaging, and the counter has more displays. The bud tender asks you what you want, and they grab it from under the counter or back room. I went in knowing what I wanted to order, but also wanted to see how much knowledge the bud tender had of their own products. Their knowledge was so-so. He had a little info on edibles but really not extensive, nor even on their full edible product line. The prices are on the higher end of the dispensaries I've been at. As much as 5-7 dollars difference on like products. There is probably a loyal following for their flower products, but from an edibles perspective, there's nothing unique from Cookies that i can see. I'm a big fan of Cookies, I drove an hour to check out this location. I wasn't impressed with what I purchased. The overall experience was good, the security guy at the door was friendly, the man that checked me in was also friendly. He welcomed us being that is was our first time. BTW.. They don't offer any discounts for it being your first time like many other cannabis clubs. There were several bud tenders working, I didn't count but I think there were about 6 of them. They weren't busy at the time. Each one of them seemed welcoming and friendly. The girl that helped us gave us some recommendations on flowers. Over $100 was spent between the both of us, We got 2 DIME BAG 8th's (Blueberry Dream & Tiramisu and few other things...however BOTH 8th's were dry, crunchy, and lightweight trash. I was surprised these flowers were sold here at "Cookies" There's so many other cannabis clubs to choose from... really I expected to get some quality flowers from Cookies like I have in the past. Went to Hayward store for white runts indoor $28 3.5 but when I got there they told me $60 indoor and $28 outdoor. When I told them that there ad on weed maps says indoor they just said sorry but that's wrong and we'll change it. I had no chose but to purchase something else that I didn't want , The people there was all stoned from security to manager , I spoke to multiple managers , Melvin and Alyssa but still was no help. If someone is advertising a product at this amount then the company should obey that ad and then change it. Coming from a person born and raised in Oakland I'm very disappointed at this dispensary. I won't lie in a pinch this is the place to go to. It is the smell you smell as soon as you exit BART, and that smell reminds you they are conveniently located! The staff is friendly but this is also based off of my five minute visit. The flowers are reasonably priced and if you are on a budget this place could work for you. You get what you pay for. Only dispensary in the Bay Area that has ever sold me hermd-out seedy bud. Also, the staff here is super uppity. Not helpful at all. Dont expect to be greeted happily by anyone when you walk in. Cookies beautiful flagship east bay Dispensary is finally open in downtown Oakland. The location was once Blue Sky, the prop 19 Campaign, Oaksterdam, and more recently Oakland Community Partners (Dispensary). The staff is awesome, and the products fire. State and city taxes do make things a bit pricey especially if you're shopping too shelf only but that should begin to get better next year when more suppliers get their act together. Product assortment is heavily focused on flower. Extremely minimal selection of edibles and topicals.
