Today I ordered again and was rudely told that the way I ordered it carried a upsale because of two sides ( no rice) . As a Jamaican, I've experienced many local restaurants nationwide; but Cool Runnings in NJ (esp the Springfield location) is definitely a place to visit. I work for NJ TRANSIT & so I'm always on the road; as a result, I get the opportunity to stop at both restaurants from time-to-time. The ambiance is pleasant & the food is very tasty ...I stop in for a daily dose of soup to open my appetite for some finger licking oxtail. Ordered a feast from CRC a few weeks ago thought door dash and I thought everything was delicious. I ordered Jerk chicken and oxtail meals and beef patties. I picked up my order and was able to find parking in front of the store. Note that it's on a busy street so you may have to double park to go grab your food. The food was just not good to me. The best part about my order was that it was delivered quickly. I called and asked if the order would be sealed since it was my first tome ordering with a food delivery service the woman told me yes everything is sealed. Got the food and it was unsealed of course. Not even a staple attempt which upset me. The oxtails were not good maybe 4 pieces. The rice didn't taste fresh it didn't even come with plantain. This is my go to Jamaican spot always. They never disappoint when it comes to flavor and taste. The one thing that they do disappoint me with is when I order some thing and there's something missing from my order and then I have to call and either figure out how it's going to get to me because I usually order from Uber eats often when I eat here for takeout. An easy way to prevent this from happening would be to let them know to double check before it comes because you've had this problem in the past , I should probably start calling after I order on Uber Eats to reiterate it too. Also you can double check if your picking up your own food too! The best thing to do is probably to pick it up this is the biggest problem I have with this place, But other than that if you want good Jamaican food this is the place to go. The only other thing is that sometimes they run out of different dishes so if you want a good lunch probably have a better chance of making sure they have everything that's on their menu. I was in the mood for some Caribbean food so I decided to order delivery via ubereats. The first thing that threw me off with their menu was the size option, I was ordering the jerk chicken meal and the they gave the option of small, medium or large as if I was asking for fries at mcdonalds. To be safe I got a medium with rice and a side of mac. My coworker got the small and she was disappointed with the portion size especially for 6 or 7 bucks. My meal was 12 dollars which I believe is trending on the expensive side, the portion was fine minus the half of scoop of mac they gave, they must have been scarce with it. The jerk chicken was flavorful and they gave me a good amount although I would have taken some meat off for more mac. I would like to see better portions of each food and maybe just a regular or large for size option, the small is way to jam packed. 3.5 stars. So let's get into this! Stopped here randomly and first off was greeted very warmly by the lady at the front. I ordered a small curry chicken rice with peas, cabbage and a side order of palntians. They have soooo many options for sides- I wish I could have sampled all of them. Although it was a long wait for the food it was worth it. I ordered oxtail with yellow rice for myself, bbq chicken with macaroni and cheese for my daughter, and jerk chicken and rice and peas for my uncle who was painting the bedrooms. My oxtail with yellow rice was so good. The oxtail was well seasoned and the yellow rice was perfectly cooked. My daughter, who's a picky eater, downed her bbq chicken and macaroni. I'm not sure how the jerk chicken tasted but my uncle had no complaints. I will definitely be ordering from here again. Such a disappointment! I ordered the Curry Chicken Roti & Mac & Cheese to go. I picked my order up approximately15 minutes before closing. The Mac & cheese was cold to the touch, they didn't even try to reheat it in the microwave. Usually when I order Curry Chicken Roti, the Roti skin is either on the side or the Curry Chicken is neatly wrapped in it; not in this case, they lined the container with the Roti and the Curry Chicken was served on top; when I went to eat it, I understood why, the bread was so dried out, I pulled off a piece to taste & it actually crunched. Roti should not crunch! As for the Curry Chicken, entirely too salty and dry. Evaluating this meal as a whole, it was substandard and not worthy of finishing. I will not be going back, while I do see some potential what bothers me most is the fact that a business would push out over priced food that lacked freshness. Good food is about more than a good or great recipe, it about quality & fresh ingredients it must also be served at the appropriate temperature. Don't come here! I'm a firm believer in not giving money to places with horrible customer service. I ordered two medium jerk chicken meals over the phone. On the website it says the meal is 12 dollars. In the store they tried to charge me 14.50 plus tax each and would not honor the website price even though they looked on the website themselves. I asked if she would really loose a customer forever, off of not honoring the price on there website and she really did not honor the price. I may be a bit biased since I tend to gravitate towards Caribbean food, but everything else I've had in the area has been mediocre. Their small meals are more than enough food, although it could use a little more meat. I ordered a small stewed chicken for an amazing price, but there was only 2 pieces of chicken. I get it, it's a small, but at least throw in 3 pieces of meat! With that said, the brown stewed chicken is my favorite dish here. It's so flavorful, juicy & tender. The goat is good. The stewed beef could be a bit more juicy & the oxtail could be cooked down a bit more (too much fat to eat around, it should melt in my mouth). Those 2 things are my only complaints. Portion sizes here are a RIP off. I ordered a medium oxtail X2 and a side of plantain and was given 4 pieces in each! 4!!! For almost $35. The flavor was great but the food was way too greasy.
