My husband was out of town, so I was in a bit of a bind trying to get everything taken care of quickly. I know that Sturdevant primarily handles commercial work and larger HVAC projects, so the fact that they took the time to find us a replacement unit and make sure we were taken care of meant so much. But what really stood out to me was Miles. Miles came out with Justin on a Thursday evening, and these two had the entire replacement installed and working in about an hour. Watching Miles work was honestly impressive. He had an incredible amount of energy, worked nonstop, and clearly takes tremendous pride in what he does. His work ethic was exceptional, and his attitude was just as impressive as his technical ability. He was friendly, professional, incredibly efficient, and genuinely seemed to care about getting the job done right. Miles is the epitome of a hard worker. He is exactly the kind of employee any company would be proud to have representing them. Sturdevant should feel incredibly fortunate to have someone like him on their team, because his attitude, and willingness to help speak volumes about the kind of person he is and the kind of company he represents. And while this review is really about Miles, I would be remiss if I didn't also recognize Sturdevant for going out of their way to help us when they really didn't have to. It is genuinely refreshing to experience that level of kindness and willingness to help these days. It feels like that kind of personal service and simply doing the right thing has become harder and harder to find. What could have been a very stressful situation turned into an experience that reminded me that there are still good people and good companies out there who are willing to step up and help when someone is in a bind. Da Kine Air Conditioning…read more Pretty much useless for anything other than replacing air filters. There was some minor collection of water in a tray (the drain pan) located under the coil of my A/C, so I called Da Kine Air Conditioning. They sent Mel, and when he arrived I showed to him the metal plate in the ceiling of my unit that must be opened to access the central A/C. He refused to even open the access plate, saying: "I am not touching this sh&*t". He said that in his previous company, he had worked on an identical system, and they had been sued, so he refused to work on it again. I explained that the A/C was in perfect condition, blowing ice-cold air, and I pleaded with him to at least open the metal plate and take one look. He absolutely refused to even take one look at my A/C/ system, using several expletives to make his position crystal clear. I called Kathy in their office, and told her what happened. She called back later, explaining that my entire A/C system would need to be replaced (how would they know when they did not even take one look at my A/C?) and that only a big company would be able to do it. I asked someone who knows more than I do to look at it, and he said that I only needed to replace the drain pan, a couple of short pipes, and improve the insulation around these short pipes. I ordered a new drain pan and I called a couple other companies, including HVAC Maui. In stark contrast with Mel at Da Kine, Owen was very polite, respectful and competent. He went about replacing the drain pan and the pipes without any fuss, and completed the job without any issues. As expected, it was very straightforward, and any competent A/C specialist could have completed the job satisfactorily. If you need someone to replace the filter on an old window unit, and you are truly desperate to find an A/C contractor, maybe Da Kine can do the job ... or mess it up (after all, Mel's previous company was sued over work that he did). For anything else, look elsewhere. Calling HVAC Maui would be a good bet.

She was professional and friendly and I felt positive about the company. Unfortunately, the owner's assurance fell flat as Kathy in the office and the tech let her down. We made 2 appointments and neither were honored. To begin with the last minute excuse used was it "is raining" which was odd as it wasn't in Lahaina where I live, and we had other companies come out to bid after this when it actually was raining (they said it was better as they would be able to see where to avoid water build up around the house). Second excuse when Dakine didn't turn up was "they were too busy", so why make an appointment they know they aren't going to honor? There was no attempt to rebook, and no interest in keeping our business. If a company is not interested in a job they should be up front and honest. Also if this is their attitude towards installing, what is their attitude towards repair going to be like?

The price they quoted was very competitive and they were recommended by friends who had their AC install completed by Strategic Air Conditioning. So now I'm here spreading the word, you can't go wrong with Jessie and his team with a refit or general maintenance or trouble shooting. Give them a call, you won't be disappointed. Update: I had one of Jessie's team come out to flush the system for maintenance and he was part of the team that did the install. Really nice guy and very thorough in his work. Called to have a plumber come check on a leak in our garage. I assumed it was the water heater,…read morebecause it was the only thing in the garage. The plumber didn't look at anything other than the water heater and stated it needs to be replaced. He quoted a price that made me swear immediately. I apologized as it was out of character, he said it was ok, but the water heater needed to be replaced and it was up to me. I told him if it needs to, I don't have any options, do what he needs to. As he was removing the water heater, I pointed out the areas there was water and I didn't think it came from the water heater as the water heater would have been spraying water in order to get that far. The plumber stated he has been doing this for over 20 years and he knows what he is doing. After the water heater was removed, he said it needed to drain. He left and came back about a hour later, the water heater dripped really slowly the entire time he was gone. I mentioned that if there was a hole in the water heater, wouldn't air go through the hole and help the water drain from the spigot faster. He stated that I didn't understand the science of it and that the hole closes when disconnected from the water because there is no longer presser. He completed the replacement and left. I swept out all the water from the garage and didn't think much of it. I checked on the garage the next day and the garage was full of water again. I called Steve's Plumbing and the same guy came out. He said that he needed to do an inspection of the house to find out where the leak was coming from, he said before he did, it would cost so much per hour to look for the leak. I told that's what he supposed to have done before, but he didn't look at anything other than the water heater and stated it needed to be replaced. He said it was my fault and that he didn't look for a leak because it was the water heater, I reminded him that I said their is leak in the garage which we needed him to look at and the only thing directly connected to water was the water heater. He repeated it was his fault, it was mine. I asked him to leave and stated at me and refused. Only after telling him he needed to leave the property or I would call the police because he wasn't welcomed, he finally left. I called another company, it turns out there was a pipe broke in the wall. The plumber explained all things Steve's Plumbing should have done to ensure the issue was corrected, more specially, checking the water pressure before work started and checking the water pressure when the job was complete to ensure the issue had been resolved. They also explained that we paid way too much replacing a water heater (which didn't need to be replaced). I'll never use Steve's Plumbing again.

It's nice to enjoy that cool comfort of air conditioning. It took a few months to get the equipment delivered to Maui(Expected supply chain issues.) The entire process was painless; from estimate to installation. Our dual, split system was installed in just 3 days, start to finish. They protected my home with drop cloths/shoe coverings,etc and installed the 5 interior units without damaging any flooring or walls. An amazing accomplishment. They outsourced the electrical work to Ikaika Lau Hee, who was very accommodating and efficient. He was in and out in only a few hours. I want to mention the great job from the workers, Chris, Dean and Devon. Overall, everyone was hardworking, friendly and educational. More importantly was the company's honesty. I was to get a $400 Hawaiian Energy rebate for the system. Dawn found that the rebate had been increased to $650 and passed it on to us, including it in the final bill. Thanks Dawn!! This has been a very positive experience.
