9/24/2024 I had an appt to diagnose my split level a/c system. After my appt, the tech said he would get estimates and let me know. I certainly received my bill by end of day but it took 2+ days to get the estimate. I had originally gave a review of 1 star, then the owner Loren called me as to why the poor review. I explained the tech was at my house, looked at a/c, charged me $185 and I still have no idea what is wrong. Loren said it takes time to prepare an estimate etc. I was grateful for the call however I now see it was only because I gave a low rating. After the call I updated my rating to 5 stars as I did appreciate the call but also felt since the work was not done I would receive a higher bill for my bad review as Loren went into "Are you from Maui? Do you know what it's like to do business on an Island?" Yes I live here, own my own home and work for our community hospital. That was offensive. Here is why I am writing this review. Cooling Hawai'i gave me 3 estimates- 1. Replace the motherboards, the part was still under warranty and $700 + to install. 2. Replace the diverter valve, a very labor intensive job. $3,500+ 3. Replace the compressor unit $6,000 - $7,000 4. Replace the entire system inside and out- this was overall their recommendation. My Carrier system is less than 5 years old. None of those estimated were correct or would have fixed the problem. I called Cooling Hawai'i and cancelled all together. I called CPR Air Conditioning and repair - (808) 572-0500- now going on 3 weeks with no a/c in Kihei. CPR came out, the tech looked at my system, called his Carrier tech support and had it fixed in less than 30 mins. It was a stuck needle valve. Total repair $165 and my a/c unit has been working great since. I don't feel Cooling Hawai'i is honest and would not recommend them to anyone. Thank you, Ray Ford read more

I purchased a home on Maui and did not know who to call for various services (electric, plumbing, air conditioning, etc). So, I made decisions based on Yelp & Google reviews. I'm glad I did! This review is for Cooling Hawaii (AC), and the reviews I researched prior to calling them were overwhelmingly stellar as well. To start, I received an appointment date quickly and the interactions I experienced with the lady at the office and the field technician assigned to my cottage were nothing short of perfect. I do not recall the lady's name on the phone, but she was naturally welcoming and accommodating (not an act; very sincere). Then, Victor arrived a few days later. I noticed he has consistent glowing reviews, and the general consensus is everyone loves Victor! I definitely concur. Victor is a GEM. So polite and approachable. Well-spoken and well-presented. Knowledgeable and teaches his clients as well. I have nothing negative to say about Cooling Hawaii and certainly see why they receive so many 5-Star reviews! Service has gone downhill! Compared to last year, this year's service and follow-up is disastrous to-date. Arranged for a technician to check air-conditioning units on July 6 and did not receive invoice or estimate for follow-up work until I called the office the next day. I was overcharged for work which the office staff Alex mentioned was for the technician to sit in his van outside my home and type an estimate for the repair work. They use GPS to calculate work hours and if someone sat in their work van, you get charged. Uncool and business practice is highly questionable. Was also not stated in estimate that diagnostic charges will be removed after work is done. The worst is that I have yet to hear from Alex on the charges and setting up repair work date even after leaving several voicemail, text and email messages. The last text I received said that she would follow-up on Monday, July 12. Nope - did not happen! Stay away from this company..... read more

We had a major issue with all 4 of our AC units that needed to be replaced. Both inside air handlers & the condensers outside!! Cooling Hawaii was the first AND only call I had to make. From Kodie in the office to Rob coming out to review what was needed and give a quote to Maverick, Gabriel & Ray who installed all of the units, we could not have been more satisfied with the whole process. I thought this would be a total nightmare but the Cooling Hawaii team made it a really great experience. Professional, clean, on time and very transparent on any issues that might arise during the install. All were very personable and friendly and couldn't be more accommodating to whatever we asked. Came home after a concert on a Friday night and found my house hot. The AC had stopped working. I called Cooling Hawaii, the company that installed my central air system, and left a message on their after-hours line. They called me back first thing Saturday morning and scheduled a visit. Ray, the technician, showed up right on time. He was very friendly, very helpful, and clearly knew what he was doing. He took the time to check everything, fix the problem, and make sure the system was cooling properly before he left. He also left the area spotless, like he was never even there. I'm very satisfied with Cooling Hawaii! Not only is my AC unit very old, but it has never been maintained and rarely used. I decided to get it checked out in case it was dirty, moldy, ready to break down, etc. It was funny to see Diego walk in to my living room with a huge smile on his face! He said that he's never seen a unit as old as mine! :) He was eager to work on it and very professionally looked at all areas. He was also very knowledgeable and courteous and answered all my questions. I also received reminder text messages and a text with his picture in it to say that he was on his way. I've recommended Cooling Hawaii to my clients over the years for installation of new AC systems, but haven't had the opportunity to personally use their maintenance services up until this past year. Just like with the installs, the regular maintenance service has been outstanding! Victor went above and beyond to troubleshoot a filter issue on my central AC unit, resolving it by building a custom filter himself and coming back to install it free of charge. We loved working with Cooling Hawaii. They replaced our central A/C for us with a new compressor and air handler. Their price was among the best, and their service was amazing. We didn't give up anything! The team in the office was easy to reach and responsive. The installers were tidy, professional and efficient. Very happy! They even work with the HawaiiEnergy rebate program. Finally we had issues with the thermostat they installed, and realized it's bad software in the thermostat. We have used many different AC companies on Maui and Cooling Hawaii was, by far, the best. Professional communication and appointment management, whereas some companies would not even return calls. The technician was knowledgable and thorough, he did not try to upsell services that were not required. He was courteous and professional, clean and efficient. Spending over two our for an annual AC maintenance service.
