    Banana Matcha and Strawberry matcha
    Queenie H.

Love that a local matcha place opened up in Granby! As the rise of matcha has taken over, I can't be happier that there are more options to try. I've recently gotten into making my own matcha with ceremonial grade matcha, so it's nice to see that the matcha was being made in a chawan with a whisk instead of a frother! With making my own matcha, I know how expensive good quality tea can be. That being said, we spent $24 on two drinks which won't make this our daily routine. It's a nice treat as they offer unique flavors like caramelized banana, topped with a blue cold foam. So glad matcha is making its way around and I hope more places are adopting the traditional method of matcha making!

First off, it's definitely one of those small, tucked-away spots you could easily miss if you didn't know it was there, but once you walk in, the decor is so cute. Think cozy, shabby chic vibes that make it feel warm and welcoming right away. The standout for me? The dinner roll. Honestly, one of the best I've ever had. It was dense, rich, and satisfying, not your typical light, airy Kaiser roll. It reminded me more of a Jamaican hard dough bread in texture and weight, which I personally loved. Super flavorful and filling. I was also really happy about their buy three, get one free promotion. It made it easy to try a few different things without feeling like I was overdoing it. As for the pastries, I tried the cinnamon roll and carrot cake. I didn't finish either, but the carrot cake definitely gave true homemade vibes. It had coconut mixed in, wasn't overly sweet, and felt more traditional than indulgent. If you like a less sugary, more classic-style carrot cake, you'll probably appreciate it. Overall, this bakery is worth a stop, especially if you're exploring the pastry trail. Not everything wowed me, but there were definitely some highlights that made it a good visit.

A true local gem that continues to raise the bar--not just in Simsbury, but across the surrounding towns. "Cause you know what they say about honey bears When you…read moreshave off all their baby hair" (The Velvet Underground) These small home-kitchen craft bakeries are popping up like mushrooms! We popped into one of those pop ups today when we picked up our pre-ordered loaf of Rosemary and Thyme Sourdough Focaccia from Honey Bear Bakery on West Mary Drive in Simsbury, not too far from the Stop and Shop on Bushy Hill Road. Honey Bear sells a variety of sourdough breads (classic and whole wheat), cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, and three types of sourdough focaccia (Rosemary & Thyme, Jalapeno Cheddar, or Cinnamon Sugar), chocolate chip cookies, and loaves of honey wheat bread. By the way, they mill their own wheat flour daily. They have a "farmstand" out front but suggest you place an order through their website (like we did). Our loaf of Rosemary and Thyme Focaccia (infused with fresh herbs and olive oil) was $12. I have to say that the website ordering experience and resulting communication were excellent. They accept PayPal and sent me a few e-mails and texts reminding me of my order and pick-up day and time. There is a kiosk on the side of the road at their address, and the names of their preordered customers are written on the boxes. Walk up customers have a box to place their cash. Our Sourdough Focaccia was delicious, I mean really full of flavor! We popped it in the oven for a teense and had it for dinner with smoked salmon, cream cheese and a bit of chopped onion. We were so impressed with their overall product and customer service that we went back the next day for some amazing looking cinnamon rolls! As if everything Honey Bear has isn't enough, well they also run sourdough baking classes!

The cheddar, jalapeno, and sourdough all tied in together perfectly. I look forward trying the various flavors. If you love sourdough, I highly recommend ordering from this baker!
