I noticed Coopertine Matcha all over TikTok, where the girl who owns the business is making some very creative matcha drinks. I decided to stop by this afternoon. Coopertine Matcha is located in Granby in an adorable little cottage. When I opened the door, I noticed around 15 people waiting to place their orders. There are some tables inside, but far more people than available seating. They also offer some pastries, such as Apple Turnovers, but most were sold out by the time I arrived. I decided on the As You Should Matcha. These are pricey matchas. A 12 ounce is $11, and a 16 ounce is $12. I don't think I have ever paid $12 before, for a single non alcoholic drink ever, not even in my travels. However, when I saw how dedicated they are to making them I understood the cost. They whisk the matcha by hand for each, single order. I watched the guy whisking, I was thinking his arm must be pretty sore after three orders, not to mention the whole day. They use a scale to measure every ingredient. The As You Should was made with caramelized banana, and blue agave sea salt whip. This is excellent matcha. It is super smooth and silky, sweet just enough, bananay just enough, not at all bitter. Truly tasty and refreshing. The agave gives it a cool and refreshing flavor. Because I was in the area, I decided to finally try this matcha spot after seeing it hyped all over Instagram. It's a cozy, quaint café with a lot of potential. I know it's still a newer business, and maybe I just caught them on an off day, but the kitchenette area felt a little too exposed to customers. Orders were being written on Post-it notes, which gave it a slightly unfinished feel. It's hard to explain--it wasn't bad, just something that stood out. One thing I absolutely loved is that they make their own syrups--that's a huge plus. I ordered the strawberry matcha because I had an incredible one last year at Nitro Bar, and I was hoping to recreate that experience. Unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. Looking back, I should have trusted my instinct and ordered the coquito flavor instead. I got the 11-ounce drink, but I didn't enjoy it enough to finish it and ended up throwing it away. I drove about 30 minutes to give this place a try. While I appreciate supporting new local businesses, I'm not sure I'd make the drive again. I may give them another chance someday to try the coquito matcha, since that was my original choice. read more

Overall, I really loved my food + drink and that is why I would give it 4.5 stars. Im not the biggest matcha drinker, and was very pleasantly surprised at how smooth + creamy my oat milk / cloud foam / passionfruit matcha tasted. The passionfruit gave it a complementary bite. My quesito was great as well, first two bites a little dry, then much better as I got to the filling. My cashier gave a great recommendation to try the oat milk, I love when staff knows their food! Unfortunately, I did need to leave off a .5 star. I thought I was ordering a coconut refresher, as the menu item did not have "matcha" in the name and was on the specials menu rather than the matcha list. Not the end of the world, but I wish the menu had been explicit either in the title or list of ingredients that I was ordering matcha. (They did have lemonades, coffee, soda drinks on the menu. I do realize its a matcha store!) Service was also a bit slow but nothing extreme. I think they made each matcha by hand / one at a time. They were very high quality. The coconut cloud foam blew me away especially. I was surprised how small the small was for $11. I do appreciate that the food was high quality. There were cheaper drinks on the menu. I wonder if the passionfruit was homemade as well as I didn't see any of the typical torani/monin bottles like most coffeeshops. The coffee shop was small with indoor + limited outdoor seating. Overall, you really get what you pay for and it was worth it, great for a treat and matcha enthusiasts. Great matchas with strong matcha flavor and unique matcha lattes, many inspired by puerto rican flavors. Service was extremely friendly and accommodating-- I asked for my matcha extra strong as I am a daily drinker and they definitely delivered! You can tell their syrups and add ins are high quality and are probably made in house. I ordered the lost in mayagüez and it was only subtly sweet despite being presented very beautifully with mango syrup and the blue agave whip. The matcha was more on the nutty and somewhat vegetal side, but with very little astringency. My friend ordered a coconut milk latte with a coconutty cold foam and cinnamon on top (unfortunately forgot the name) that was a bit sweeter but still had great flavor. Though lattes are pricier around $11-12, you aren't getting a milkshake with the suggestion of matcha like you do at most cafes-- this is the real deal. It is also a family run establishment with a warm atmosphere and obviously lots of love and heritage reflected in the aesthetic decor despite the place being quite small. The place is also dog lover friendly (Cooper being the name of the owner's dog) and they do donate part of their proceeds to strays in Puerto Rico. As someone who loves matcha and dogs I loved this place, and can't wait to continue to support them! read more

Newly opened, close to Farley Mac's on Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. With many specialty coffee, latte and bakery shops in the area, this one could be the absolute winner! A little bit of an obscure location, but once you're in there, the staff is welcoming, the place is new, and clean; and I love the way it's decorated I've included photos of the menus, and like I said, they are just getting started, but boy this place is spot on delicious, and a must try! The pastries on display were so eye appealing, I wanted to order one of everything! I ordered two matcha lattes and (only) two pastries. (cinnamon roll and guava pastry) The pastries were carefully boxed up for the ride home That guava pastry was so light delicate and the guava flavor came through and just exploded. I wanted more I could've ate a few more of them, and have the most serious sugar high lol The cinnamon roll was well done, a very nice combination of texture, cinnamon, brown sugar and the creamy topping This place had me at guava pastry, as it should have you also! finally checked out Coopertine Matcha and they have Puerto Rican inspired flavors like Coquito, Passion Fruit, Coconut and more! The staff here was so kind and lovely. I love that you can watch your Matcha being made. I ended up getting a strawberry matcha, which had a beautiful strawberry puree and that matcha was strong (as it should!). It was very delicious especially with the topped sea salt cold foam. my only complaint was the price - $12 for a matcha is insaneeeeee but i do understand they are sourcing really high quality matcha but this is also not something everyone can afford. read more

Love that a local matcha place opened up in Granby! As the rise of matcha has taken over, I can't be happier that there are more options to try. I've recently gotten into making my own matcha with ceremonial grade matcha, so it's nice to see that the matcha was being made in a chawan with a whisk instead of a frother! With making my own matcha, I know how expensive good quality tea can be. That being said, we spent $24 on two drinks which won't make this our daily routine. It's a nice treat as they offer unique flavors like caramelized banana, topped with a blue cold foam. So glad matcha is making its way around and I hope more places are adopting the traditional method of matcha making! read more

Coopertine's matcha was really good! Smooth, not bitter, and super easy to drink. I especially liked the one with banana; it made it creamy, a little sweet, and delicious. I'd definitely get it again! read more
