The 40-year-old rec center has Grass growing through the pool deck. Two pool lights hanging by electrical cords in the deep end. The decking around the pool, retains water and the outdoor courts need refinishing. Exercise equipment is old and outdated. The wildlife was absolutely out of control and seems like there's way too many deer. some of the lots look real trashy with a bunch of trees and limbs down. The HOA dues and assessments are out of control for lot owners. i wish we never purchased a lot in there. $2200- for a lot worth maybe $8k. Thinking about letting them keep it- thats what they do - real estate agents do not seem to want to sell lots in there. we fell on a hard time this year- 2 months late and its in the hands if a collection agency- with added interest and fees of approx another $400 when we have always paid our dues and jacked up assessments. We owned the lot for about 15 years. Good luck trying to sell one. Buyer beware. read more

This review is for the resort as a whole. Reviews/complaints about a particular rental agency belong on the site of that agency only. My large family gathered in a cabin inside the Coosawattee River Resort for the week of Thanksgiving. We used the indoor heated pool, the miniature golf course, and the gym - all located at the Rec Center, and we also visited the General Store. The indoor pool was great, the mini golf course was very old and worn but we had a great time, and the gym was more than adequate. The General Store was adorable and the prices were fantastic. Good biscuits, too, and the whole family enjoyed playing with Ellie Jay, the store's very sweet cat. The store hours vary with the seasons - be sure to check ahead. Our cabin was located along the main road, which is paved. Some of my family members were "scared" of driving along the road, which is curvy and narrow, but I had no issues whatsoever. It's wide enough for two lanes and the road quality is excellent. We saw hundreds of deer, usually between dusk and dawn. It's an annoyance to have to show your pass, give your name, and often tell them the make/model of your vehicle eery time you enter. But it's a minor annoyance, and I don't begrudge the Association for trying to keep tabs on who is coming in and out of the resort. We did not have a chance to explore all of the parks or other amenities. I would gladly stay there again. read more

Stayed here for the week this summer. The place we stayed in was awesome! I love the concept of this resort, but they could improve on a few areas: 1. Directions/signage- good luck traveling through the park. The maps they give you are very vague and don't contain all the roads. It's just very inaccurate and should be redesigned. There aren't any signs to say "canoe park" (turn left) or anything helpful for that matter. I even saw on a post for a gate name (that I had not heard of) and I later found out the gate is no longer called that. 2. General Store- completely useless place unless of want to go tubing (Summer months only). I went in thinking I would A. Get brochures or pamphlets on things to do around the resort or B. Get some eggs and milk. I was unable to do either. They had some Advil, Pepto, chips, drinks, and boiled peanuts in a crockpot. That's it! Nothing useful is in the general store and there were no brochures! Apparently they used to have a deli shop there, but it too was no longer there. 3. The woman at the recreation center was completely rude and took her job way too seriously. I wish I had gotten her name, but she was rude and told another lady coming in to workout that she needed to "wear a shirt" since she was wearing a sports bra and was going to the gym. It's just not a big deal! It's a resort, not a retail store! Nothing was said to the people who left the pool with a swimsuit and towel on. Also I called the recreation center the following day to see if they had any walking trails and I was told "we don't have in." Even though I ended up finding one at River Park. It must have been the same rude chick! The resort is very nice, lots and lots of deer! It's beautiful, with many parks. Roads are narrow and winds a lot, so I would be afraid to drive there after dark but they are well maintained. Phone service might be spotty in some areas, but everyone (other than the recreation center lady) was extremely nice, including the people that live there. Tubing is available for $20 a person at the resort. They will drop you off and pick you up along the river and everyone I talked to there was super nice, it's just a loooooong tubing ride (1.5-2.5 hours depending on water height). All in all a great place to stay, just tough for visitors trying to find their way. read more

It's an absolute annoying mess trying to get in the gate having to call the office person each time. Then we attempted to use the rec facilities and they had all sorts of strange rules for getting in. We rented a cabin that sleeps more than ten yet only 4 per lot allowed. read more

We stayed a long weekend at River Daze cabin inside the resort. We weren't happy that the fireplace wasn't operational, we had hoped for the whole cabin in the mountains experience. We didn't receive any credit for a faulty fireplace. We had a nice weekend but were shocked to find two weeks later we had been charged $75 for trash that was not in a bag, just thrown into the can. We arrived on a Friday and one can was completely full from the previous guests. We filled the other can with bagged trash to the rim. The pictures we received were taken three days after our checkout. This was not our trash. Were the prior tenants also charged? We have contacted the contact email three different times but they don't respond, they just pushed the charge through. This is a poor way to do business. read more

What a beautiful property! I have rented several vacation homes in the resort and would love to live in there. I have one COMPLAINT ABOUT THE CRR. I have used www.morningbreezecabinrentals.com to rent from, I have used VRBO.com and I have used www.stressbustercabinrentals.com. NO ONE BUT the last one charged me $26 dollars to enter the resort. THIS FEE SHOULD NOT BE PAID BY THE RENTER. This fee is erroneous and is not going to the resort. At some point, the CRR decided (probably 10 yrs ago) that for real estate agents to contract within the community they should charge a gate fee. I spoke with the gate attendant at my most recent stay, which was April 2014 and asked if I was on a list and was she aware of any fees to enter the resort. Her response was, "no, and as a vacation renter you can come and go as many times as you like in and out of here, I've been working here for nine years and have never seen any money charged". I have seen on some websites for vacation home in the Cossawattee River Resort charging this fee, but I will not ever stay again with anyone who passes this fee on their guests. We are ALREADY PAYING A PRETTY PENNY to stay and the property managers who are paid to manage/rent properties should eat this fee as a courtesy. IT IS AN UNFAIR, OLD, ERRONEOUS FEE. Some guests only stay and night or two. They are paying 13 dollars to drive on and 13 dollars to drive off? I WILL ONLY USE morningbreezecabinrentals and any vacation rental by owner from now on who VALUES MY BUSINESS and chooses not to pass this fee on to me. We booked through Mountain Laurel Cabin Rental in Blue Ridge, GA for the cabin R&R River Retreat in Coosawattee River Resort. This is my first and only bad review I've written in the 30 years of extensively travelling with my husband and our 3 children. We have never had a rental agent intentionally provide online rate quotes at a lower rate than what the actual charge amount on your credit card and intentionally omit important facts in their description of the rental as Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals. Most rentals in the Coosawattaee River Resort are built on the side of a mountain so there is little to no level lots. The roads in the resort are narrow and winding. You must enter through a "security" gate every time to have a an employee get all of your rental info and then manually look you up so that you can enter the gate. This is an extremely manual process that takes an excessive amount of time to get through--in addition there is always a line. The rental R&R River Retreat is built into a steep cliff on the side of a mountain. The access road to cabin is an extremely steep and windy one-vehicle path. It is like a roller coaster with a drop that you can't see where the front end of your vehicle is going. The road has an immediate sharp turn to avoid driving into the 1st cabin, quickly pass the 2nd cabin to come to a quick stop so you don't end up on the porch of R&R River Retreat. Exiting the access road was just as difficult. It is impossible to back out of the road, so the only place to turn your vehicle around to make it back up the hill is at the 2nd cabin's driveway. Fortunately there were no tenants there so we could turn around. (That cabin is understandably for sale). It was necessary to plan our daily outings so we could safely make it back to the cabin before dusk. Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals should state the road conditions to get to the cabin with pictures showing the STEEP road and turn since the roads within Coosawattee River Resort are not on GPS. It is very deceptive for Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals to not require Winter Renters to have 4-wheel drive and chains. It takes at least 30 minutes from the closest security gate to get to the cabin. At night a minimal of 45 mins to avoid on-coming traffic and deer on the narrow winding roads. Fortunately we used for the trip were a 4-wheel drive Truck and a Suburban and the Suburban had some difficulty going up the access road from the cabin and that was in May. R&R sits on the side of a cliff so there is no level area to walk (which should also be stated on their site) There are no steps or designated walkway to get down the cliff to the river. You must aim for trees to bear hug to stop yourself to make it down the cliff. a walking stick while you are down their so you can get back to the cabin. The website description simply states "path is lit with solar lights" The only signs of solar lighting is the remains of ONE old, plastic crushed solar light covered in dirt. There is no path, with your body in motion your legs decide where the path is. Needless to say my husband and I made one venture down to the river, our children made it twice in the week that we were there. (Note the PICTURE of a little patch of grass off back door-that is the only level land) Nightly rental rate listed on Mountain Laurel Cabin Rental website is the breakdown by week was $175 but our online quote was $180. When I saw the charge on our credit card, I assumed the larger amount was the security deposit. When we did not receive a credit for our security deposit I called Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals office. I was told they don't charge the security deposit; the amount is the rate for the cabin. I stated the rate on site was $175, my online quote was $ 180 in addition their Rate Charge spreadsheet on their website for that time period was $175. He rudely told me $200 is listed in the title line of the cabin and that's what I was charged. I asked to speak to a manager, he came back on the phone and said she said there is nothing she can do about it. I've never experienced rude and inconsiderate customer service. Not only is the rate information incorrect the description of the cabin and amenities are very outdated and incorrect. My son attempted to sleep in basement bedroom our last night only to find water coming out of the closet door flooding into bedroom and sitting area. My husband was able to find the source, air conditioning pipe was broke. We had to use all the towels to attempt to soak it up. We called to report the problem. Several hours later we received a call back, he told them he was able to reconnect pipes. He said we could use some assistance in the clean-up and dry towels. No one ever showed up or thanked him, and no dry towels. I completed a review for R&R River Retreat on Mountain Laurel Cabin Rental's site, needless to say, it was never posted. We have experienced appliances that don't work, a hot tub that you could not use, a very rude employee at the Rec Center and this last and final time, no hot water for the entire stay. My family stayed a week and really enjoyed the resort and the cabin with quite nice, comfortable. While there, we came into contact with several who work there and was appalled by the overt lack of interest shown from several staff members as well as the resort general manager. She all but ignored us when we tried to speak with her, no eye contact when talking with us and walked away when a response to a question was finally given. We literally had to follow her to hear what she was trying to say. Towards the end of our week, it almost became humorous to our family and quests regarding how some seemed to purposefully being ignoring us. That said, we did encounter so very nice people, the older gentlemen working the main gate in the afternoons was just as pleasant as can be. But, given the enormous size of this resort and imagined impact on the local economy, and that I would imagine many who live/vacation there are older and affluent, I would expect a much higher level of professionalism, tact, care and general interest in visitors. We spoke with someone named Linda who was very helpful and particularly nice and an older lady working the counter in the POA office was just a pleasant as you could ever want anyone to be. I would recommend someone staying here but hope they would have as little as possible contact with resort staff and management. My family stayed a week and really enjoyed the resort. Particularly the river running through the resort as it was absolutely beautiful. The town of Ellijay is a quaint, if not quirky, town that really feels like a mountain town and has several good restaurants downtown and nice shopping. read more
