I was finally able to check out this French-inspired bakery across Southpark Mall...and despite arriving rather late in the day, they had a pretty good selection of bakery items, as well as some deli sandwich selections. Their drink menu seemed a bit weak, but I did appreciate how they had complimentary water. I liked how they were located inside the Pavilion...and how they had such a nice, spacious area outside of the shop to leisurely enjoy your treats! I was in a hurry, so just picked up 2 Choux pastries to go...and honestly, they weren't the best Choux that I've had. Still, I was glad to see that they had them here. I really wanted to like Copain, but unfortunately the wait just wasn't worth it. When we visited, the oven and/or microwave (however they normally warm things up) was broken, which led to delays and food that didn't feel like it was being served the way it's intended. For a place known for its baked goods, that was pretty disappointing. The French onion soup was especially underwhelming, extremely heavy and oversalted, to the point that it was hard to enjoy more than a couple bites. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and did their best to manage the situation. Still, between the long wait and the disappointing food, the experience fell short. I might consider giving it another try once everything is fully up and running, but this visit missed the mark. read more

Copain Bakery is one of those spots you walk into and instantly consider quitting your job to become a full-time pastry poet. The atmosphere is bright and charming with tons of natural light, cozy seating, and the kind of pastry display that makes you rethink your life priorities. Service was friendly and upbeat. Even with a busy line, the staff kept things moving and never lost the smiles. I ordered an iced vanilla latte which was smooth and lightly sweet with just the right amount of espresso oomph. The chocolate orange entremet was the clear showstopper, combining rich chocolate with a citrusy sparkle that made me feel roughly 47 percent fancier. The hot chocolate donut tasted like pure cocoa happiness and left a respectable amount of chocolate on my fingers that I absolutely did not regret. Five out of five because the pastries are gorgeous, the coffee holds its own, and the entire place feels like a tiny edible escape from reality. I came here yesterday after having frequented the Winston Salem one many times since its opening. It was fun to check out the original spot! I ordered an egg sandwich with ham and provolone and a seasonal pumpkin macaron. The sandwich in the case was on a regular round roll but mine came on a croissant which was a nice surprise! It was steaming hot but really tasty and just the late morning breakfast that I needed. The macaron was tiny but tasty too. The actual shop itself is relatively small; there is ample seating in the middle atrium section between all the other shops (roosters, a gift store etc). Decor is cozy and chic. This is a new bakery in the Ballantyne area. You can park in the share parking lots or street parking. They offer a variety of breakfast items and pastries. They also sale some of the items the items they use in their baked goods like the granola, honey, etc. The place is clean and the staff are friendly for now. I quite enjoyed my parfait. Yes! Wish we found this place sooner. It's tasty for sure and the seating/layout is unique to say the least we do agree as a family that it's the best breakfast sandwich in Charlotte and that's saying something!!! We love that they put our samples on the weekends so we can taste things that we might not have otherwise take the risk in buying. I enjoyed my first visit to this delightful French bakery. I decided to try a food item before going for dessert. I ordered spinach and feta slice of quiche and a hot tea. Inside is nice with small tables to sit at also additional sitting on the outside in the indoor atrium. Then after finishing I ordered my treats to go. I got chocolate crumple cookie, salted caramel cream puff, apple hand pie, and double chocolate eclair. I loved everything but my favorites were the cookie and the eclair. Been obsessed with their butter croissants for years! Every time I visit Charlotte- I make sure to make a pit stop here. I love their croissants and their pimento cheese. I was in the SouthPark area and wanted something sweet. When I did a search, Copain popped up. It's in a plaza connected to Roosters, which makes it a little easier to find. There's plenty of parking close the bakery. It appears they also have a restaurant, but I didn't try it. I can't really speak to the service because I walked up to the counter to order. I have to admit I haven't been impressed by a lot of the bakeries in Charlotte, but I'm hard to impress when it comes to baked goods. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Copain. The bakery looks exactly like a little French bakery. There are a lot of options, including various breads and baked goods. I didn't try any of the breads but did get a chocolate chip cookie and salted caramel tart. They both were amazing! You can tell that they use quality ingredients in their baked goods. The chocolate chip cookie was undoubtedly the best chocolate chip cookie that I've had in Charlotte and I've tried quite a few! It tastes a lot like the Jacque Torres chocolate chip cookie, with just the perfect amount of chocolate and sea salt on top! I did order a brownie for my coworker, I tasted it and it was good, but wasn't great, especially compared to the cookie! read more

Walked in and was surprised by the amount of seating available in the pavilion that felt open air with the big skylights. Entering the bakery portion it was unclear which direction the line started and I didn't see a big menu to read but there were paper menus available near the register. I perused the pastry case and was impressed by multiple treats. They did have a couple gluten free options. The gluten free chocolate chunk cookie was clearly labeled GF. Then I saw a clearly labeled GF apple cinnamon bread loaf on the table in the center of the bakery. When I approached the register I was told the Apple cinnamon muffin was also GF but I didn't remember seeing that labeled in the case. I also ordered a latte. The GF cookie was delicious, soft and flavorful. The latte was good, the pumpkin flavor was very subtle so I would have liked a bit more. I brought the loaf home and enjoyed it later. I had the salted chocolate chip cookie which was so delicious! I also tried the apple cinnamon muffin, but unfortunately it was very bland, lacking in flavor and just tasted spongy. However, the other cashier was rude and oblivious. I'm also annoyed bc we called in advance to ask if they use sesame in anything (allergy present), were told that they don't use it at all, and then drove almost half an hour to see that they very obviously do. I'd give a 4, but my last experience was a little off putting with the staff. When I got to the front and looked at the drink menu it just had lattes with no flavors so I asked the flavors and the cashier very rudely said "the sign is over there". It was in a cluttered area and very easy to miss. I apologized, quickly picked a flavor and my husband paid, she handed us a number and just walked away. No customer service whatsoever. They brought our food out and we were still looking for a table because they were all so dirty and that same cashier was annoyed that we hadn't sat yet so she could just drop our stuff down and go, so we quickly sat down and she again just walked away with no words - and no utensils. I get up and ask another employee for utensils and they said, "it was in the front" and then gives us wooden utensils. I had been 3-4 times and always had gotten silverware. Weird eating an almond crossaint with a wooden fork, but ok. If you go just be ready and aware of everything you need to spot before making it to the register (seasonal drink options, silverware, napkins, possible seating options), because if you don't they will definitely point you to what you missed in a way that makes you feel foolish. I only write reviews like this in hopes the staff will see and treat people better next time, because its a really cute place and I bragged on it once and it's the second bad experience I had now. A surprisingly cozy cafe inside an unattractive strip mall. The cafe offers nice selection of delicious pastries, sandwiches and soups with reasonable price. I tried the ham and cheese, chocolate, almond and palmier. I recommend the almond and Ham and cheese. The lady behind the counter is very helpful and nice. We picked out a Svory Speck and Gruyere Cheese Croissant, a Chocolate Croissant, a Almond Croissant. They were all just light and layered perfectly. Next we ahd a Salted Caramel Cream Puff - 100 % ! A Pistachio tart with crunchy pistachios on top of the whipped cream. A Spinach and Feta Scone and of course a Brownie! Excellent! But to give credit, when they originally brought me a tiny piece and I said something about it they did bring me a slightly larger slice. But a slice of quiche at Amelie's is about twice the size. Saw the menu and had high hopes. Upon arriving we asked the hostess if we could just go to the bar. She said sure, no problem. Sat at the bar for 15 minutes without a single acknowledgment of our presence. Found the manager on duty and informed him of this. He asked if we told the hostess we were sitting at the bar which we had. He didn't rectify the issue at all. We ended up leaving. Definitely felt like we were treated poorly because we were wearing band shirts. It's unfortunate because the menu looked promising. However, the service was terrible. Stopped by here last weekend to catch up with a friend and it was such a perfect spot for the occasion. We ordered our food and drinks and the employees were very friendly. They bring your order to you table which is nice because you're able to spread out to the common area seating areas as well. The place is decorated super cute and they have tons or items to grab for hosting or cooking at home which I loved. I only had a gingerbread cappuccino but it was delish and I'll definitely be back when I have more of an appetite to try their other menu items. I came to Copain Gathering because I was looking for a brand of tin fish and their website stated it was sold here. Getting to Copain Gathering was kinda weird. I entered a door and there were tables for the nearby restaurant. The wait staff there was setting the tables ups and no one paid me any attention so I made my way to the Copain Gathering storefront. Once inside there was no one inside to help me. After about 4/5 minutes someone came from the back but they never addressed me or said anything. At this time another customer was inside and they began to immediately help them. I had looked around and found the item I needed. I did have questions about the tin fish and it's availability and once at the register I asked them. The whole experience didn't give specialty store. There was no customer service just a cut and dry you pay at the register type of experience for me. I would have like to know more about the establishment and what they offered but no one inside welcomed my visit or care to interact with me.
