We visited here on a Monday late morning for brunch. There's a waitlist you can join but it's not always accurate. When we went there, the waitlist said no wait but we actually had to wait like 15 min. That said, the food is tasty and filling. They are very popular with the locals and tourists! I've been here a few times, and I'm never disappointed. It's such a cute brunch spot with bar seating, plenty of booths, and tables, making it a great place to dine. The service is always fast and friendly, and of course, the food is good! I started with the fried green tomatoes, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. They were fried so well and topped with bacon, tomato, lettuce, and a tasty remoulade. I'm still thinking about them honestly! For my entrée, I ordered the 3 Little Pigs Omelet. Unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. It was smaller than I expected and didn't really resemble an omelet. It was a little messy and slightly runny for my taste. After many visits over the years, Ruby Sunshine has officially taken the top spot as my husband's and my favorite breakfast place in Charlotte. Their menu is vast and varied. They even have a "Dietary Preference" menu (look for it online), with keto, gluten-free, and vegetarian options. Some servers aren't aware of this menu, but they will see it in their Toast device if they look for it. We have landed on a couple of favorite dishes that are repeats for us. I like the Spanish Omelet keto-style. Instead of a biscuit and grits, you get a half of an avocado (sliced) and a roasted tomato. The omelet is always full of flavor, and I love it. My husband's favorite is their White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes, with bacon ($2 extra). Don't let the name deter you--these pancakes aren't too thick. They are slightly chewy, and the white chocolate whiskey sauce is amazing. He rarely uses the syrup! Ruby's coffee is always good and strong, and their service is great, no matter who you get. Ruby Sunshine started off just okay. We were told there would be a 20-25 minute wait for a party of eight, but it turned into almost an hour. They also close at 2:00 PM, and we arrived around noon, so the extended wait was disappointing. Once seated, we were greeted by a friendly server, though it was loud and I didn't catch her name. The kids had French toast and the Little Champion (eggs, bacon, and fruit). Unfortunately, the French toast was very hard and overcooked. The shrimp and grits had great flavor and were very enjoyable. The chicken sandwich was overcooked on the outside but moist on the inside, so I removed the breading. The fried green tomatoes were good and flavorful. We ordered beignets, but they never came out; however, our server removed them from the bill without issue. Overall, it was an okay visit. The sad part is it was our anniversary brunch and out of all places we picked here. We all have bad days though so I guess it happens. Later during our visit their system went down which probably aided in her being even more annoyed during the course of our visit. I am still giving them 3 stars because my creamy spiced latte was tasty and my gulf shrimp omelet was very good and the eggs were not overcooked. Went here on a Sunday when there was a home game whoops! Very hard to find parking on this day. They have a small lot attached, but we ended up finding street parking. When we got in the building it was very crowded, lucky we had a reservation ready to go! Very popular spot and I can see why. The brunch was a classic, many vast offerings from sweet to savory. They had mimosas , Bloody Marys, etc. the coffee was also good - a huge plus. I got avocado toast with a poached egg on top, fruit and some sausage. When I explained this to Alex he said he would have them check the temperature of the fryers. They did give me a 20% discount. However, seeing as that I didn't eat it, they really should have comped it. But I didn't make a fuss! My son ordered a chicken sandwich that he said tasted pretty good but his fries were greasy and soggy. The server said that that was how their fries were prepared. She said they didn't make crispy fries. Lastly, my cup was dirty and I had to ask for a new cup. So, needless to say if I'm ever back in Charlotte, I will not visit this restaurant again. We are visiting Charlotte for family function and as usual I decide to look up best southern cooking near me, or best soul food near me and this was one of the top locations that popped up. I was happy that you're actually able to save a place in line through reservation and not have to stand around especially in this heat! I usually order shrimp and grits, but I decided to do something a bit different this time and order what was one of the specialties of the restaurant. We got an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and had a nice crispy bacon on top and a delicious flavor. I also ordered the stuffed French toast and our group had something a bit similar, but everyone wanted to try something different which was recommended by our very hospitable server. The prices are nice and the place is just big enough to accommodate, but not feel overly crowded. We sat outside (no my favorite thing to do) but it was too chilly for bugs! Dining inside had an INCREDIBLE wait. The one thing I must warn you about: the dogs. People are allowed to bring their pets to the patio. We were fine until fur started flying from the owner calming her dog from an interaction with another dog that was on the patio. Out-of-Towners from California here, trying Ruby Sunshine for the first time. The mister and I were looking for a breakfast/brunch spot to satisfy our hunger before leaving Charlotte. We were fascinated by the variety of menu items at Ruby Sunshine and decided to try them out - especially for their pancakes and french toast options. (Besides, how can you say 'no' to a restaurant that pays homage to New Orleans?) We were immediately greeted by Tasha, who seated us fairly quickly afterwards. The mister ended up getting the Ruby Fried Chicken sandwich with hot honey glaze, while I opted for the White Chocolate Bread Pudding pancakes. We also ordered a side of Pig-Candy Bacon Bites, and paired the food with coffee and boozy iced coffee. We can't rave enough about the flavors here. My pancakes were made perfectly - fluffy and not overly sweet from the white chocolate. The bacon bites had just the right amount of sweetness, saltiness, crispiness, and juiciness. The fried chicken in the Ruby Fried Chicken sandwich was cooked to perfection - made with "genuine southern fried chicken" according to the mister. Don't be fooled by the pictures - they don't skimp on the portions either. You'll leave full and satisfied, without feeling stuffed. We were also beginning to understand the meaning of "Southern Hospitality". Tasha, our server, made sure that our food was excellent and our requests were met. As for the ambiance, the decor made you feel like you were walking into a part of New Orleans. I have to say this place is a hidden gem. First the staff was attentive and the waitress was great without being overbearing. She gave good options as well on food and drinks. It was very clean and laid back with a diverse crowd. I had the St. Charles Chicken which was awesome. I tried it with the sauce that it came with and Hollandaise. The pork sauce was very flavorful.
