It's small, you order cafeteria style before being seated, you seat yourself, and it can get a little noisy. We visited on a Sunday around 2:10 p.m., and there were still plenty of tables available. Then I tasted the food. The menu is built around customization. You can build your own waffle by choosing your waffle, meat, toppings, and sauce. Or build your own biscuit or grit bowl the same way. There are enough combinations that you could come back several times and order something different each visit. I ordered the Chicken and Red Velvet Waffle. It comes with crispy fried chicken, a red velvet waffle, cream cheese drizzle, syrup, and cinnamon butter. The chicken was crispy and juicy, although a few bites were a little salty. Not every bite, and the syrup balanced it out nicely. The cinnamon butter was a nice touch. However the waffles literally disintegrated under the chi My daughter ordered the Crab Cake Benedict Biscuit, and we shared it. It comes with a crab cake, sunny side up eggs, arugula, spinach, and hollandaise on a flaky biscuit. We also shared an order of Crispy Brussels Sprouts. Both were delicious, and the portions were generous enough that we still had leftovers to take home. One thing I liked was the variety of toppings and sauces. I'm always down for a good brunch, and this spot was the perfect way to wrap up our last morning in Charlotte. The Wafflery is a fast-casual breakfast spot with a surprisingly extensive menu--think waffles, biscuits, and plenty of other brunch favorites. Not enough staff. Food just ok. I visited on a Friday morning around 10:40am. The restaurant was about half full and there were people sitting inside and on the outside patio. There were a lot of empty tables that were covered in empty dishes and needed to be bussed. That being said, after the group on front of me had their orders taken at the counter, the cashier left for 10 minutes to go bus all the dirty tables. The line of customers grew longer and longer while this one cashier cleaned the entire restaurant, inside tables and patio tables. I did see another worker who came out and prepared a couple of alcoholic beverages and then went back to the back. I also saw a couple of BOH cooks who came out briefly. They definitely needed another staff member to bus tables instead of making the cashier do everything. When I finally got my food delivered to me I was disappointed that they served my eggs with a broken yolk. The biscuit was huge (it's hard to tell from the pic) and could be shared by 2-3 people. The food tasted fine but just average. The people at the table next to me complained very loudly that their waffles were soggy and undercooked. I highly recommend! From the food, the service and the ambience everything was a wonderful experience! We visited Saturday during brunch hour with a large party. So first and foremost, let's talk about the process of this eatery, you are expected to come in and wait in line grab a menu and then order at the counter. Once you order your food you will get a number to go with your meal then you will choose your seating area for larger parties, the staff will assist and support you with seating. Patrons are not following this process and they are saving tables as they enter which is extending the wait time in line. I ordered the chicken and red velvet waffle, and it was delicious! The chicken was fried perfectly and the cream cheese drizzle paired perfect with the velvet waffle! I didn't even use syrup. I ordered a cup of Parmesan grits on the side. Went to this restaurant after a morning event in first ward. From previous reviews it looked like this place is mostly known for their grit bowls. Unfortunately, I did not order grits because I do not like them. Instead I got the chicken biscuit which was not very good. The chicken tasted thin, stringy, overcooked, and overall the chicken was not good quality. The biscuit did come with gravy and egg whatever way you preferred. The biscuit and gravy itself was good but I was overall displeased with this food considering after tip it was 22.00 for a chicken biscuit that I would not eat again. I hate even having to write this, but this experience needs to be shared. I dined at The Wafflery in Charlotte and immediately noticed something was off when my food was brought to the table -- there was a hair in my food. I calmly sent it back, and instead of taking accountability, the server Rebecca suggested it might have been from eggs... which made no sense because I didn't even order eggs. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I asked for my food to be remade to-go. When I got home and opened it... I was beyond disgusted. There was a long hair UNDER the chicken. At that point, it no longer felt like an accident. It felt careless at best -- and intentional at worst. This is exactly why people hesitate to send food back. Not because mistakes don't happen, but because of what can happen after. I was respectful the entire time, so there was absolutely no reason for my food to come back like that. Food safety and basic hygiene should never be negotiable. No one should feel like they're risking their health just to eat out. Do better, The Wafflery. This was unacceptable. read more

The grits are particularly noteworthy--creamy, smooth and thick. The waffles are delicious. perfectly cooked and piping hot. Hot, too doughy, and not too crunchy. I like strawberries on top for a classic flavor. Their honey butter pairs well with this. I have also had their solid biscuit, which would make a great biscuit sandwich, though not necessarily a star on its own. Their service is excellent and prompt. Although their seating system seems a bit off at first, it is honestly ingenious. So, if you're eating in, just trust the process. Great experience overall. My wife and I and her brother were in from out of town but on our way back to airport to return to Omaha Nebraska. The menu was easy to understand and they had one on screens on the wall behind the register as well as physical copies. Most everything sounded good but I decided on a waffle with a side of scrambled eggs with cheese, some cheesy grits and a sausage egg and cheese biscuit sandwich. My wife got a waffle with eggs and cinnamon apples on top with cooked cubed bacon on the side, and my brother in law got a waffle (wasn't super hungry). The food didn't take too long to come and everything was excellent! The eggs were fluffy and light. The waffles were crispy with a softness inside. The biscuit sandwich was tasty and filling. The staff was helpful and cheery, and the only negative thing I can say is there aren't any near me. They also brought out maple syrup but I didn't think it would go well with the other toppings so I didn't try it. Husband got the womlette. It was good but I wish they offered more egg options than just scrambled. It would have been amazing with over easy eggs! Our friend got the grits bowl. Visited during Lunch time on a Wednesday. They do have side street parking with a small parking lot towards the back. There was no line when we arrived but unfortunately it looked like they were VERY short staffed so we stood in line for about 15min till we were able to order. They do not offer grilled chicken which was a bummer. The salad is HUGE but they do serve it in a very small bowl so its very hard to maneuver and mix the salad around. It was very hard not to have half of my salad fall on the table. They do offer margaritas and mimosas. My friend was halfway through her mimosa when a bug ended up in her drink. They had a bunch of small bugs flying aroun. Now, as stated before bc they were short staffed, the cleanliness of this place was FAILING miserably this day. When you walk in, you might be overwhelmed by the line or the filled tables, but it clears out quickly and by the time you get through the line, there are open tables (but they do have a strict no saving tables rule). My husband and I finally got a chance to stop into Wafflery. At first, it was a bit confusing on the order of operation but essentially you're supposed to wait in line, order first (you'll receive a number), and then can sit at a table. The day that we stopped by, it was super busy but the line moved pretty fast and the tables were also cleared at a timely pace too. Now to the food (the best part!) - I ordered the red velvet chicken and waffles and my husband ordered the regular chicken and waffles with chopped bananas. Both were great but the regular waffles were the best! Chicken was juicy, tender, and flavorful. Both of us also ordered coffee on tap, which was also pretty good. I live 10 minutes from the new location and I fell in love until it wasn't consistent with the food. I'm here now and the chicken is terrible only because the grease is old and the staff told me she tried to get them to change it and they didn't. The manager here acts like you are the problem but clearly she can see the inconsistency. My son came home from college and I have it another try but after today I'm done.
