I went in for breakfast and had the desayuno coppelia. I don't think the eggs nor the fries were salted. It was very bland.. I put ketchup and the it was sugary. Also ordered the yucca fries (I love them!) but was disappointing to see 4 pieces in a basket. It was not very satisfying.. and when I was all done and had been ready to pay for a while but nobody who were working was aware of this or was there to attend to this. There were 3-4 workers who seemed to be doing a serious meeting and gathered together in a corner discussing something but wasn't available for assistance. This wasn't a pleasant experience, both the food and the service. I don't know if it's just that it was a weekday morning or just overall like this? I would encourage others to avoid mornings or go to another restaurant - there's lot to choose in the city! read more

The first thing that comes to my mind about this review for Coppelia is - the word compassion. When I tell you how nice and compassionate the bouncer was at Coppelia when we came. He allowed myself and my party to wait in the very small vestibule to escape the cold. He could've chosen to be brash and rude. Like my most bouncers are characterized to be but he wasn't. When I told him how appreciative we were about the simple kindness due to the recent incident with Cafeteria- he was not surprised. He offered his apologies FOR ANOTHER establishment. And said "This isn't the first time he's heard that." We were seated promptly, given the ice water. All the bells and whistles. The bouncer came back to check on us. I wish I got his name. The food was amazing. I ordered the Cubano and an a Oxtail Empanada. Delicious. The staff - magnificent after braving drunken hoards of people through the night. It was around 5am. I didn't really order an entree, but if their fries are on point, I'm guessing the entire menu is darn right delicious. I may be wrong, but I believe their ketchup is either homemade, or they added spices and a little bit of BBQ sauce. My fiancé had a burger with chicharon and it looked DIVINE. Coppelia is a diner-esque Cuban restaurant that serves everything from flan to empanadas 24/7. We came for brunch after stopping by the Donut Pub down the block. Between three people, we shared the mac and chicharron, nachos, and blueberry pancakes. They had a check-in offer for an iced tea or soda, and they also started us off with a plate of mini muffins and rolls. The nachos were my favorite out of the three dishes and loaded with cheese, tender beef, and guacamole. The blueberry pancakes were made from cornmeal, so they were more textured but still yummy. They also came with an agave syrup that was pleasantly lighter than the Aunt Jemima's I'm used to. The mac and chicharron sounded so intriguing on the menu, yet it was hard to make out the chicharron flavor in the dish. That tends to be the case when recipes try to fuse something with mac and cheese, though, because I've experienced the same with lobster mac and cheese. Brunch here was overall a great departure from the standard eggs benedict and waffles, and I'll be back to try more of their expansive menu. read more

I have been a customer at this restaurant for many years. Although I love coming here, tonight I experienced the most awful customer service. The manager on duty denied me the option of sitting at a both (which was available). Then she offered me a very small table which would've been fine if my partner and I didn't like to order everything on the menu. After explaining to her that we liked a lot of food at once on our table and that we wanted to have two tables and have separate bills, she told us that we were more than happy to leave and eat someplace else. We decided to take the small table where she wanted us to sit from the beginning, to then had to be moved to a booth when our food arrived, because it would not fit in the table. Such big inconvenience for something that could've been avoided by giving us the table where we knew we would be comfortable and enjoy our meal. Great place.. horrible manager on duty. read more

I happened to pop in for a super-late night/early morning meal after being out in Chelsea and my friends and I were pleasantly surprised. The food was awesome, the service was timely, and the vibe was casual. I didn't expect the doorman to be there monitoring traffic, but I actually appreciated it because although some fellow party-goers might stumble through, the scene was not hectic. 10/10 would recommend the Cuban sandwich and the Mac and cheese. read more

Don't come here! Server - short Mexican lady had the nerve to ask me to tip her 18% once I came out of the restroom on my way out. I rounded down to 17.5 % and she was upset and asked if there was a problem with the service. They kept on rushing us to go out since they were ppl waiting. It was as rainy day but the bus boys kept on coming to clear stuff and asking how we were doing. Food was subpar. An enchilada for $19 was meh and that was a house special. Tiny portions. I didn't complain or said anything but this ungrateful waitress feels so entitled. She doesn't know that the tip amounts are "recommended." Coppelia has gotten quite a bit of attention in the blogosphere since its inception not long ago... so I guess you can say I walked in with some level of expectations. The menu is pretty interesting, comprised of some all-day breakfast dishes, lunch/dinner appetizers, sandwiches, entrees and sides. Since we came in around 8:30 PM, breakfast was kind of out of the question. Many of the sandwiches, all affordable sound pretty amazing. The bf ordered the pan con lechon, with a side of black beans and rice, while I went with the chicken arepa. His lechon sandwich was quite good, porky and fatty pressed flat between crusty bread. Although I only took a bite, I thought the flavors of the mojo sauce and pickled red onion were pronounced and complemented the roast pork nicely. My chicken arepa came out in what at first resembled crispy deep fried corn cakes the size and shape of an english muffin. Unlike any other arepas I've had with more soft pliable shells, this one was very crunchy and quite tough to bite through. While the roasted chicken inside was quite juicy, the entire sandwich was a bit too dense and heavy with the addition of guacamole. I needed some brightness, acidity, or fresh herbs to break it up a little. The black beans and rice on the side, on the other hand, were pretty delicious. The beans were not at all overcooked, retaining a nice bite. While the food was pretty decent, especially for the price and 24/7 diner-establishment standards, the service was just okay. The servers were pretty nice, but the kitchen was extremely slow. Even if they cook everything to order, you would expect a diner to put out food at a faster rate. Perhaps it's too soon to judge. Coppelia may just need some time to work out some kinks. Nonetheless, I'd be happy to return to this place to try some of their breakfast items. read more

Amazing food! Came here on a Thursday night and, oh man, no regrets. It was a little crowded, cramped, and loud but the food more than made up for it. Went for Sunday brunch and it was pretty empty (rare for the super crowded restaurants in the area during this time) so we were seated right away. This made me a bit nervous but I had nothing to fear--this is my new favorite place!! the food is amazing and the service very good. AWESOME! The oxtail empanadas were amazing, and only $3.25.. they even came with cheese, and pico de gallo, but I skipped the crema. My waiter Juan- Carlos was really classy and got us everything we needed before we could even ask. I came here with my girlfriend because we were looking for a good 24 hr diner, and what an awesome choice we made! The waffles were delicious, the arepa was incredible, and the corn thing was really flavorful, but we weren't that into it. I went to Coppelia for lunch of the 2nd day they were opened. I was with 3 other people so we had a chance to try lots of things. We were seated right away and drink orders were taken promptly. We started with chicken, beef and sweet corn empanadas. All were great but the sweet corn ones were AMAZING! I could have eaten 10 of them! The cubano sandwich was very tasty, no complaints. The pollo sandwich was very good as well but they forgot to put the avocado on it. It was supposed to come with a mojo sauce but they made it with a spicy mustard instead. No biggie, it still tasted good. The lomito sandwich was excellent. They got the order wrong and put a fried egg on it and when asked, the waiter apologized and made us a new one right away. Again, no biggie! We had yucca fries and french fries, the french fries tasting much better. There is something on this menu for everyone and I will definitely be back to taste more. They have a special every night of the week and I can't wait to see how they do mofongo! The waiters were all really nice and very helpful! read more

Went to Coppelia last night and it was the nicest surprise I have had in a long time stumbling into an unfamiliar restaurant ('m sort of a slave to foodie fads). I loved every aspect of my experience there. The service was fantastic. It may have been a tad slower than expected but the treatment to patrons was impeccable. Very friendly but not overbearing. It was obvious the staff cared about their jobs. I ordered a simple whiskey ginger. a couple large ice cubes! Thank God! Plus a good portion of whiskey. Normally I get a handful of ice chunks that melt instantly. I was very surprised and pleased with this simple drink order. Do yourself a favor and get the Mac N Cheese! Incredible. Best flavored mac n cheese I have had to date. I ordered the Arepas and they were little but still very good. I imagined they would be better based off of the Mac but still very good for a latin "diner." I also got the Yucca fries which were delicious and I would HIGHLY recommend. The portion of the dishes were incredibly practical and I appreciated it. I left feeling very satisfied without being upset that I just wasted an hour at the gym. Lastly, the prices were very fair. I had to write this after the delivery experience. We have eaten here before and it was excellent but WTF with the delivery. We ordered what we thought was a whole rotisserie chicken for 2 hungry guys. We got 2 sides and with tip it was 34$. The menu online (grub hub) says Peruvian Roasted Chicken. What arrived was 1/2 of a roast chicken which was almost undercooked and had slimy chicken skin. We ordered Brussels and Beans/Rice. The brussels were poorly done, tasted boiled with a very tiny amount of queso fresco. The black beans were still hard/undercooked. I called to express concern with the misleading menu on grub hub and was told by whoever answered to take it up with grub hub!!! Meanwhile Coppelia gets paid and we are still hungry. Latin American diner, one of the most fun spots in the area. Great cocktails for brunch or dinner. Top notch Croquetas, Lomo Saltado and pretty much everything else. Breakfast menu is very good, but the Huevos Racheros are really excellent and they have a lot of really interesting dishes you might not try elsewhere. read more

To get in they act like it's Studio 54, to have your order served you better count on dying first, and to get good food you better believe in miracles. Walked in on a Wednesday evening and got a table for 7 with no wait. I'm assuming that this is/will not always be the case. I was with my husband and his family for a celebratory dinner - so the interim lack of a liquor license and not being able to byo (they said because they had already applied for the license) was a downer. This was in June, so I hope things have changed! The wait staff was super attentive and patient with the very complicated orders our party had. They explained everything in great detail and helped us to maximize our ordering. The food overall was very good to excellent. In particular, the yucca fries were very memorable. With such a big party we had a good selection of the menu. Portion sizes were awesome. The food ranged from very traditional Cuban to not at all. The least impressive presentation was the fish tacos, but she said they were tasty anyway. The house made desserts were a mixed bag. There was guava(?) sorbet that was really awesome. The pudin was less so. The atmosphere was very hip without being obnoxious. Really nicely decorated. My only complaint was the bathroom with the glass door. In conclusion, I'd definitely go back, especially once they get beverages stronger than milkshakes. read more

After last night, I am adding Coppelia to my list of top food places to go to in the city. The service was excellent, the casual vibe as well, and the food was on point. Wait time was zero, even though it looks pretty popular from what I see on Yelp and even though there were already lots of people inside. The other highlight of Coppelia is that it is 24 hours. I know where I'm going the next time I stay out too late. You can also unlock a free iced tea or soda from Yelp, which I forgot. Have come here for dinner twice and both times have been delicious! For an appetizer, get the nachos - you won't regret it. I've had their lomo saltado (AMAZING), churrasco (incredible) and their tacos campechanos (just okay). For dessert, their tres leches and affogato both impressed. The service here is really hit or miss, drastically so. During my first visit, there was a backwaiter who was almost uncomfortably awkward (I've never had clearing plates be such an ordeal), but during my second one, my waiter was so amazing that I went to the manager after my meal. Haven't had their drinks or brunch, but I really want to! The reason why I docked a star is their bathroom. It's a private restroom, but the door is made of frosted glass. Using it was SUPER uncomfortable as the toilet directly faced the door, and people can definitely make you out as you're doing your business. Not cute! read more
