Wandered in at lunchtime after the spa and couldn't have asked for more on a hot summer day! It's gorgeous inside, bright and modern and elegant but not stuffy in the least. They accommodated my gluten-free friend quite nicely, not only with several selections but also modifying one we could share: a robust and rich caesar salad. The chicken add-on was no afterthought, either. It was tender and flavorful. The classic ceviche was fresh, a perfect portion size, a cool mahi-mahi party in your mouth. Had really high hopes for the food here and left pretty underwhelmed. Will start off with the good. Ambiance is gorgeous and our waiter had a really in depth knowledge of the menu which was helpful in our decision making. Now the food...We ordered the classic ceviche and it took about 30 minutes to come out. The best part about it was the tiger's milk. It came with plantain chips but certainly not enough for the serving and a lot of them were soggy from sitting in the liquid. For my entree I had the Aji de Gallina. Solid portion size but the flavor was off putting to me. It was my first time having the dish so I'm not sure if that's how it was supposed to taste but my immediate thought was that something in the sauce was spoiled. I would not order it again. The experience is not worth it. Came here mostly to try the mixed seafood ceviche and it was not good. There were bones and tendons in some of the pieces of fish and the mix of seafood that was in the dish was 1 piece of each item listed maybe 2. There was 1 shrimp cut into 3 pieces, 2 tiny scallops, 2 tiny pieces of octopus and 3 pieces of fish for $34, it wasn't even tasty besides the scallops. Felt like a scam overall. The only redeeming item that we tried was actually the torched salmon belly, everything else seemed to fall short. The 12 hour braised short rib somehow was overcooked and didn't fall apart. If you considered to go to Mission Ceviche, I would strongly recommend to reconsider. At least I won't go there a next time even though they gave me a birthday voucher for a free drink next time. Okay, let me elaborate: for my birthday, party of five nice happy people. Reception ok, ambiance cool, food actually excellent: seafood mixto, ceviche Nikkei, yuca fries, lomo saltado, branzino, pollo a la Brasa. But rudeness cannot be compensated, no matter how good the food is. Barely taking the last swipe off the plate, mouth still full, the plates were pulled (similar to the carpet being pulled from underneath your feet), followed by one of the supervisors in no uncertain terms telling us that they needed the table and that we could/should move to the basement. Thank you for that offer, but there is something called pride that doesn't go well with such an unpleasant birthday present. Too bad. Won't go there anymore. And you shouldn't either. They may get better if there are bot to many patrons. And there are plenty of excellent restaurants that also have a prime decorum. read more

I made reservs but opted to sit at the bar. They wanted to put us next to another party when there were other tables available. We visited Mission Ceviche Union Square for dinner, having made a reservation in advance. The decor inside was gorgeous for the holiday season. They had beautiful garlands and ornaments hanging around the bar, and a whole display of hanging plants in the middle of the restaurant. We arguably got the worst seat in the house (first little table by the door/host stand), but it was still nice enough. For drinks, I ordered a glass of Malbec and my sister got the Harajuku Girl cocktail. Both were fantastic! The Harajuku Girl was especially well-crafted, with a strong passionfruit flavor. What I wasn't impressed with was unfortunately our server. First, he gave my partner a hard time about not ordering alcohol. Then, when we ordered our food to share, he told us it wasn't enough for the three of us. When we asked what else he would recommend, he just listed off the three most expensive items on the menu. I told him we could just order more if we were still hungry, and he told me no - this was the "last and only chance" to put in food. We didn't appreciate the upsell tactics, especially at an already pricy restaurant. He also didn't come back to check on us after that, until it was time to pay. The food items we ordered were the Ceviche Nikkei, Lima Roll, Lomo Saltado, and Sweet Plantains. The Ceviche Nikkei was tasty but tiny and tasted more like a crudo than ceviche I've tried before. The fish was pretty fresh though. The Lima Roll was alright, but pretty forgettable. I usually love Peruvian sushi, but this one was nothing special. The Lomo Saltado here was also not my favorite. I'm used to this dish being more of a stir fry with veggies, but this was basically a piece of steak in soy sauce. What really redeemed all the other items were the Sweet Plantains. They were perfectly cooked with goat cheese nata on top, and the sweet/salty combination was incredible. The menu is well indicated for allergies and the waitress was very helpful making recommendations. We were four people and shared a combination of appetizers and main dishes. We shred everything family style. I really enjoyed the classic ceviche. The truffadito was just ok, it was a bit disappointing, there wasn't anything special about it. The octopus was very nice but a bit tiny, you barely get any meat in there. It is served with crispy potatoes. The guac was good, but way over priced for what you get. $21 for average guac and a tiny portion. The two sushi tolls were nice (tuna and filet mignon). The arroz con mariscos was very good. I'm curious to try the chauffa next time. The lomo saltado was perfect. They actually use gluten free soy sauce for it, that was a nice plus. Went to Mission Ceviche Union Square for a group event. We were originally supposed to be in the basement Sub-Mission cocktail lounge, but due to a miscommunication, we ended up in the main restaurant instead. The staff handled the situation very well and was extremely accommodating. Our group was around 15-20 people. We started at the long bar right by the entrance for drinks, then moved to tables toward the back of the restaurant near the kitchen. We were given a large round table that comfortably fit about 10-12 people, plus an additional table nearby. While most of the group did not order food, the staff remained very attentive with drink service throughout the night. Despite the restaurant being quite full, it was still easy to hold conversation. The space itself is beautifully designed, with layered textures, greenery, and bold colors that make it visually engaging and feel elevated without being stuffy. I did not eat this time, but the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled excellent. I have eaten at the Upper East Side location before and had a good experience. I ordered a pisco sour, which was very well made, though cocktails are on the pricier side at around $19. They do offer happy hour, but we unfortunately missed it. Overall, this is a great Union Square spot for elevated drinks or a polished dinner, and it works surprisingly well for larger groups given how attentive and flexible the staff was. read more

Bunch of friends got together for lunch. It's a huge beautifully decorated restaurant, originally sat in the middle but we asked to move our table to the booth because of cold air. (Definitely cozier!) The food was amazing combination of Peruvian and Japanese, well done. But unfortunately branzino and chicken were overcooked. Our waitress never repeated what we ordered so we weren't sure if she got all of our orders right but she did. The prices of lunch special recently went from $35 to $45. Unfortunately, they're just very disorganized and their drinks are awful. They advertised a happy hour, but when we arrived, turns out they had changed the time of the Happy Hour. When we tried to order at the bar, it was impossible to get anyone's attention, to the point that I walked over to a server in the restaurant and had to ask for help. That server was actually the manager apparently and he simply told me to ask the bar again, and then proceeded to make small talk with the girls sitting next to us. Came here with a friend during restaurant week deal which came with a trio of appetizers, an appetizer, and an entree for $60! The snack trio were a sweet plantain nigiri, yuca fries, and scallop. As background info, my wife and I have been to the Upper East side and the Union Square location about 5 times in the last year. We love the Upper East side location not only since the ambiance allowed for one to talk as compared with the much louder music at Union Square. Between the two location there is also a slight difference in the menu and flavor, certain items we tried at UES is not available at USq. Furthermore, even for the classic ceviche that dish seemed to be better at UES. Nonetheless the USq location is much closer to us. This time a friend and I had a few drinks (pisco sour with passion fruit always a winner) and ordered the classic ceviche, yuca fries, grilled octopus, and the king crab special. The server had described the king crab and it sounded good as either an appetizer or dinner. I specifically ordered the appetizer portion. NOTE that the server did not give a price for the special. As per our usual experience, the ceviche was ok, but the grilled octopus and fries were the stand out. I kept wondering why the king crab was not out earlier since it was to be the appetizer. It winded up to be the last item served and by then we figured the server had heard us wrong; nonetheless, we went with the flow. The server instructed us to take the crab out and make sure to eat it with the sauce. From the photo one can see there was around 1 and 1/2 pieces of king crab leg. We removed the crab meat and swipe the sauce and found the sauce to have been SO SUPER SALTY. Yet knowing how expensive it was going to be (just guessing since the server never gave us and unfortunately we were stupid enough to not ask the price) we ate it despite it being practically inedible -- even with the starch underneath it it was still super salty! When the check came I saw the price for that crab was $125. WOW! If it was good maybe I wouldn't had been so disappointed but a rip it was. Lesson learned. From hereon no specials and stick with the UES location. It would have helped too had the server informed us the price for the dish (and or possibly confirmed our choices after we ordered -- especially seeing how expensive it was). Overall, despite it taking a bit longer for the server to take our orders the other servers were great with our drinks and refilling of water. I just wished that management would assist all servers in the points made in the previous paragraph to make one's dining experience here better. read more

We came today for lunch to try the new location of one of our favorite seafood restaurants in New York. We had an overall good experience and most of the things that we ordered resembled the flavor, size and presentation from the original location that we love so much. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the seafood rice. It was very different and much more smaller than the one in their UES location which we had 2 weeks ago. UES seafood rice has changed a lot since 2021 and 2022 because it no longer comes with octopus, mussels and giant shrimp, but today's seafood rice was even worst. Consistency is something customers expect over time and across multiple locations if the name of a dish remains the same in the menu and the price continues to go up. The waitress explained their kitchen was smaller and that's why they had different presentations, but it didn't seem right. In comparison the dish here didn't have fried shrimps on top, didn't have onion ceviche on top, and didn't have white sauce on top, it was completely naked except for an excess of cheese that overpowered the entire dish and didn't allow your palate to distinguish any other flavor. We counted 3 calamari rings and no more than 2 pieces of fish and shrimp, not a $48 entrée. It was rice in a seafood sauce and not rice with seafood. We had something in mind and a very different dish came to our table, perhaps a different name would be appropriate for dishes that cannot be replicated or change so much in time to avoid confusion. The decor, ambiance and design was beautiful and much more spacious than the original location. The host told us they had a Michelin Star at their UES location and that's why their standards were different, but I'm well aware they have been in the Michelin guide since 2021 but haven't earn a star yet*. Although our experience was ok, I don't think we will be visiting this location again. Consistency is key and lies do not compensate for the lack of it. On top the sushi sauce container came broken. I really hope they level up to meet the quality of food and service customers are used to with the original location, because chef Jose Luis is an artist, and this location does not reflect all his hard work. read more

The hostess was consistently friendly and welcoming (5 stars!) to everyone she interacted with. Unfortunately, the host was not. When I informed him that I had a reservation, he asked if the other person was present. After I said no, he abruptly said, "Wait at the bar," and walked away without any explanation. While I understand that a restaurant may not seat a party until everyone has arrived, that policy was never communicated. The interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional, as if guests were expected to know the rules without being told. The host also appeared overwhelmed and unable to manage the flow of incoming guests effectively. Poor communication and lack of basic courtesy negatively impacted the experience. Although the food itself was excellent and the ambiance beautiful, the negative interaction at the beginning set the tone and ultimately ruined the overall experience. This situation could have been easily avoided with clear explanation and better customer service. Additional training in guest interaction and service management seems necessary. read more

This felt like a tourist trap with super high prices, a lively paradise for instagramers with bland food. It felt like once this place got popular, they go of quality.
