We did end up ordering the cheesecake and pastel de chocolate for dessert and they were to die for. Staff sang happy birthday to my friend :) The decor and vibe inside seems meticulously curated, cozy and artsy, while remaining organized and clean. Nice spot Cuban diner open 24/7. The waiter was super friendly and accommodating but we always had to track him down via busboy or food runner. I mean it was a bit ridiculous as he had like six tables in the section, but was never around. On to the food. Guacamole was delicious. I've wanted to try Coppelia for some time now, sister to Cuba and Toloache; two restaurants that I adore and are go tos for Cuban food. I wanted a warm lunch today due to a really cold fall day. Coppelia offers everything from lechon, baked chicken, desayuno all day..to just about everything a Cuban kitchen can produce. I ordered the Chicken soup, yucca fries and arroz con frijoles negros. The delivery was a little late and the sweat of the yucca fries went through delivery bag, otherwise , everything was packaged securely. Here's what my tastebuds went through: 1. Yucca fries: delicious, just a tad hard but yucca is a bit denser than regular potatoes, I think. The mojo sauce was great and tangy for dipping. 2. Chicken soup: absolutely delicious, abundant chicken, potatoes, noodles, carrots and a hint of cilantro. The broth was delicious and piping hot. Perfect for a cold day. 3. Rice and black beans: I was so full from soup and fries that I saved it for a meal tomorrow. I know portions vary from restaurant to restaurant. However, $6 for rice and beans is a steal and the portion is abundant. Compared to other places in Soho where a side of rice is $6 and side of beans is $6. I plan to visit Coppelia in person for a future meal due to being near Village Vanguard. So far, if you work near 14th Street definitely visit them. We ended up here one night after having a terrible experience being seated at a restaurant down the street. Being down south Florida I have high standards for Cuban food. I was skeptical, but we loved the vibes and gave it a try. We sat at the bar with the friendliest bar tenders and had the yummiest Micheladas. We ordered the steak and frites and the Churrasco and let me tell you, we would fly back to New York just for this meal! It was phenomenal, a 10/10. We ate every bite and wanted to lick the plates clean. While we were there, there was an unruly customer was being escorted out. He caused a scene, tossed drinks on customers, but their security took care of it immediately and waited for the police to arrive. It's always in my back pocket when I need a late night meal while in Chelsea, and that need struck on a recent summer evening. There was a short ~20 min wait for a table for 3 on a Monday night, so I imagine it's that much busier on a Friday or Saturday night, so plan accordingly. Spontaneous date night and wanted to try out something new. Found this place which we have driven by forever. It had a cute intimate feeling when walked in and felt homey. Been twice in the last two weeks. Talk about a New York City Institution. You can catch me in one of the back tables with the crew. A mix of TexMex, Cuban and Peruvian cuisine, Coppelia is a nice safeguard when everything else is packed or closed. First time around, I had the steak quesadilla and it was a solid choice. Our table had the mac and cheese, flauntas, tequenos and maduros. Frozen mango margarita comes as one of my favorite flavors. Margaritas are never out of season argues one of my friends. Second time around last night, I had the chilaquiles (no meat) and extra guacamole. It has to be one of my top future hangover foods. We decided to start with a Spicy Michelada using Modello and a modello beer. Can't got wrong with solid beers. There are so many drinks to choose from you really have to decide what to drink before even looking at food. For appetizers we got the empanadas. Omg, you won't believe me until you experience them yourself, but they were amazing. Chicken and beef, both of them were perfectly fried and the meat inside was flavorful beyond expectation. Main dishes we got the Cubano and the Arroz con Pollo. The Cubano was not just amazing, literally outstanding. The mojo on the meat came through all of the other flavors without overpowering it. The bread was extremely crispy and not too thick and "bready". The meat and sandwich melted as you ate them. The Arroz con Pollo defied logic. Ok, so this is my first time in NY and I can say that this place made my last night here one to remember! Not because it's my first time there, but the fact that the East Coast does it a lot better with Cuban food than the West Coast - LOL! Yes I can get this at home, but the taste and love you get from eating here is best than any other Cuban food I have ever ate back at home. Everything we ate here felt so WHOLE HEARTED! The drinks are made to PERFECTION and the staff there themselves are THEE BEST service providers I've came across. Being from Jersey, there's scarcely much I appreciate more than a great late night diner experience. That's exactly what I had here at Coppelia. I came here for two things: eggs, and quality meat. Coppelia's unique hash with soft, slow cooked beef really hit the money for me. Others at my table got the lomo saltado, a quesadilla, and a Cuban sandwich. Everything was great, and I really liked the thick fries that came with the sandwich. I also really enjoyed the spicy jalapeño margarita cubana. The indoor ambiance is great, and so was the service. The food is also surprisingly cheap. I was mostly shocked by the ~$10 breakfast items, which still come in good portions and are delicious. What can I say about the only place that reminds me of the Churrasco I have in Miami. This is the place you go to when you want a nice, juicy, super flavorful piece of steak.
