Coppell YMCA Group Classes - Classes are led by experienced and enthusiastic leaders who like what they do - the sessions can be challenging but I like that all of them provide modifications and never seem to make you feel as if you need to do all moves. I go out of my way to make the evening and Sunday offerings that are not offered at my local. (I am always going to give 4 stars to the YMCA due to the locker room because this always seems to be a secondary thing for the Y. It is ok - but reminds you of your HS). Rest of facility - The costs for access to equipment and classes is competitive. I never have to wait for the cardio machines and enjoy that this location has an indoor track. read more

I took an Adults beginners swim class at this location in Jan 2025 that had three people and the same coach for 3 of the 4 classes. I have a genuine desire to finally learn to swim and it was also suggested to aid with a personal matter. The beginners class was good in that the teacher was able to determine skill level and assign things accordingly even while working with varying levels. I was amazed to be floating in the second class and swimming underwater, then on my back by the last. My second time taking classes was a private lesson taken Jan 2026 which I wanted so I could learn a bit faster. I never made it to the deep end in the beginner and did still use the shallow end as a crutch whether mentally or literally. The private teacher was nice and we had good conversation throughout. My issue was the lack of planning. I understand they had to see where I was and go from there, but at every class I asked "so what is the plan?" when starting or for the next class and they didn't really have one. My last class I felt they were not fully present and, though I shared my goals, strengths, and challenges, I was asked to do things more in line with someone wanting to be a swimmer vs learning how to swim. Ex. I never learned breathing techniques or how to tread water but they kept trying to teach me a full stroke (again, this was not an advanced class). There were class cancellations for weather which is understandable but then another for a swim meet they hosted that I was surprised to see given those are typically scheduled in advance just like these classes. My last class was an hour on a Sunday due to this and to make up for two classes in one day. I asked again to confirm why there was no curriculum for these classes and why my two classes were so different and they replied "it really depends on the teacher. You should take the class during the day with ___". While the recommendation is nice, I fear this was an acknowledgment that the effort or knowledge was not there for lessons I paid nearly $250 for. Most of the staff is very young and again, everyone was nice however to management/whoever is in charge there needs to be more structure. As stated to both coaches, I wanted to learn a valuable skill, not join the sport. Giving two stars mostly for the first set of lessons however I will not be back or recommend. read more

Disappointed and Frustrated with Recent Changes I joined the YMCA specifically for a weekly dance class that was held in a proper exercise room. Unfortunately, that room has now been converted into manager offices, and the class has been moved to the gymnasium--where half the court is still used for basketball during our session. It's noisy, distracting, no mirrors or proper sound system, and simply not the environment we signed up for. To make matters worse, several popular classes have been cancelled or relocated, and the locker rooms are consistently smelly and moldy, which raises serious concerns about cleanliness and maintenance. Many of us are considering canceling our memberships. We've voiced our concerns, but the management seems indifferent. It's incredibly disappointing to see a community-focused organization disregard the needs of its members like this. I hope the YMCA reconsiders these decisions and starts prioritizing member experience again. Part of a lengthy email response regarding the changes at the location: "The changes happening within the branch are certainly big ones, and I can see how, without the full context, it would feel like space is being taken away from the people who make the Y what it is--our members. What I hope to share is that while we are repurposing Group Ex 1 into office space, this shift is a reflection of the YMCA's growth as an organization, not a step away from our mission. Our team is expanding because we're serving more families, more youth, and more community programs than ever before. That kind of growth means we need more behind-the-scenes support to keep it all going--but I absolutely understand how it can look like a loss on the surface. I know that doesn't replace the feeling of losing a room or restore the exact layout that once was, but please know--this is not a step away from our members. It's a step toward being able to support even more of you. That includes exploring ways to maximize what space we do have, and yes, continuing to look at long-term growth opportunities in and around the building. We truly value you and your feedback. Today I went in for aqua class. The instructor immediately frowned at me. Every few seconds she looked at me as if I was in the wrong place. A few minutes later a woman came and stood right next to me. I asked her if she could move. She told me it was her spot. I asked the instructor if we had assigned spots. She said no. She told me I had to move because she always stands there. I left, I refused to go to the back of the bus. The group X director I spoke with was unknowable on how to answer or handle anything. She could only tell me who she was. The receptionist tried very hard to help. She even offered to go back and tell the instructor. I declined by now the water felt dirty. If you attend this Y be prepared. read more

We've been attending this Y for about two years now. This is our second time enrolling our son in swim classes here and the instructors are amazing! I also used to attend Diane's classes in the mornings for cycling and she was so caring and kind to me as a beginner , checking up on me and keeping up with my progress. Josie in the child watch and front desk has always been so nice and caring for my son. She really cares about the people here. It really is a family environment. The only issue I have is that I wish there were more family restrooms to change my son in. But other than that, I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! read more

YMCA never fails to amaze me. From my experiences, professionalism to training their instructors really well, it beats to services and facilities. I have known YMCA from Ahmedabad-India from my own sponsorships of my dance programs and from there to USA - Coppell, Texas. Upbeat, lovely environment, instructors are amazing and their staff is friendly! They solve problems if there is confusion. Kids are always instructed well and after taking their services for 5 to 6years, there are beautiful memories associated with these locations. Place you love to hang out with friends, family and kids! For me, both locations at Ahmedabad-India and USA-Coppell are the best. Absolutely love the place and programs! Their parents volunteer programs are worth every penny. Strongly recommend. We love their swimming, basketball & soccer programs. Their gym instructors and coaches are just as good! read more

Building is a little older but they do a great job offering a variety of activities especially for kids (soccer, swimming, t-ball). So far we've only taken swimming classes and they do a good job maintaining the pool- which is used primarily by the high school swim team. The heated pool usually feels colder then 70degrees. Even when families are able to use the pool, only 25% is available for use so casual use is strongly discouraged unless swimming laps. But Andrew brown park nearby has an outdoor pool for fun. Staff has also told me about the cross timber location being more member friendly. read more

I was in Dallas (Irving) last week and looking for a pool to get a practice in and all the other larger pools I had researched were closed for summer Aug cleaning. I went back to my youth and realized I should find a YMCA b/c they have pools and are work too. I did and it was a cute and clean pool area. The leadership of Willie and Carly is terrific, the personal trainers led by Andrew are knowledgable and engaging, the front desk staff of Brooklyn, Jose, Shalini, Gale, Thomas, Evan, Lisa, and others are exceptional.The Y has accommodated a Bible study I've led for the past three years with encouragement and support. Gymnasium is frequently closed for local children to play basketball or sports without notification. If you want to raise an issue Managers are never to be found. They don't even work weekends. They leave high school kids to run the place and to answer questions regarding facilities to confused members. The hours of operation are bizarre and appear to be created for the managers. 1pm-5pm on a Sunday? How does that cater to the local community? read more

The Coppell YMCA has to be the best hub for families in our town. They do so much for children and families. As a mother of two, I could not believe the scope of outstanding programming for children. Our boys are taking swimming lessons here and play soccer. The Y even has a certified child watch area where the kids are engaged with healthy, developmental activities - not like other places that just have babysitting. And the best part, the Y does a "date night" every month that is so much less than hiring a babysitter at home, that the savings actually pays for our monthly membership - simply incredible. I highly recommend the Coppell Y to anyone looking for a place to plug into for their family to engage in healthy and meaningful activities. I love that my membership dollars go directly back to help other families in need. It's a good thing all around. :o) read more

Irving-Coppell residents are supposedly not allowed to register to use this YMCA facility's amenities. Many years ago, a colleague and I were interested in swimming at the Y, and when attempting to register to do so, an employee told us we couldn't register and then threatened to call the police to have us escorted out of the building all because it seemed to her as if we were "not permitted" to be on premises. I'm still unsure as to what handbook she was going off of, but it seems as if the employee was ignorant and unnecessarily discriminatory. Avoid this place! read more

We've been members at this location since January 2017 and have no complaints. It's very family friendly and all of the staff have always been extremely welcoming & nice. It's always been super clean with all the equipment always in good condition. Coppell is my favorite YMCA in all of DFW & thankfully, it's just down the street from us, too! read more

Love this place. This is by far the best YMCA and gym I have ever been to. They staff is friendly and helpful, and most of the actual members are nice and don't have that mean "I'm working out go away" scowl on their faces. They have a pool for swimming lessons, laps and aerobics. They have a weight room, indoor track and aerobics studio, as well. They have a large number of group classes and eveything is included in your membership fee. BTW, the membership fee is based on your income so you don't get robbed. I haven't tried the family programs or personal training offered but definitely plan to in the future. read more

We have been members now for 3 years and have enjoyed most of their activities and services. Instructor and Coaches are professional! We have tried other centers too but the professionalism of Y, friendly atmosphere and well behaved staff have brought us back in just a year! I have to talk about services at their daycare. My kids have taken Y-camps in past, basketball, soccer as well as swimming programs for kids as well as adults. I give them 2 thumbs UP !! My kids love the place and I love how they ask me to take them to daycare even though now they are older :) Lot of times it has happened when their classes got cancelled, they ask me if they could hang out for a while in day-care. My kids are ages 6 and 8. My both kids have been happy kids through out their childhood years at day care facility while I was either working out or either one of my kids were in some activity there. What recently took me by surprise was the accident that I had witness at Y-pools. A 4 year old had accidentally hit her toe and her nail chipped off. She was bleeding heavily. I was observing the lifeguard who was probably 16 years old and was treating the child with lot of love, respect & patience. He was also putting some applications on it to stop the bleeding. I am a CPR-First AId-Certified professional and I really liked the way staff took care of that 4 year old child who was crying out loud and bleeding! The bleeding had stopped by the time mom had arrived. Mom was also asked not to leave child alone in pool areas until class was over even if it was for the front office work. I will never forget that incident. Overall environment is very family friendly and the front office waiting area is so relaxing! I was recommended this place from a friend who is member from past 5 years now and ever since I have joined Y, I have always recommend this place to everyone. Every single person whom I recommend this place, absolutely enjoys the services. I wish they had extra pools/slides may be! It will save our time driving far off places to have some pool fun for kids. read more

This should be a 4.5, since I dont give my 5 very easily, but I LOVE this place!! I purchased a groupon for the Metropolitian YMCA, so I had about 20 to choose from. I'd been looking for a gym with childcare to take some classes-yoga, Zumba, Cycle etc. The 60 day family pass was a pretty great deal so I got it for myself and my mom with childcare INCLUDED for my 2.5 year old. The place is large and spacious, it doesnt feel like you are cramped too close to someone working out next to you. Its got alot of machines and a great variety so there seems to be something always open. Its not overly crowded either, which is what I was trying to avoid. Its also NOT filled with a bunch of 'gym bunnies' looking to hook up or stare at each other. There was a mix of large and small, men and women, and young and old. The woman at the front desk who took us on our tour was so friendly and informative. She even immediatly suggested visiting the child care so my daughter could start playing. We went to the child care and my daughter went right along with the super sweet girl who would be watching her. They have activities for the kids in the child care also, they have a bounce house for them 2x a week, and apparently had 'exercise' on Saturday while I was at yoga. They have a camera in there, so when I was on the treadmill I was able to watch her playing and coloring and reading, and talking to other kids and the 3 teachers in there. I've taken a beginner yoga class which was really great-not too intense but not so slow that I felt bored. I also took a NIA class which was really great. Trish was a fantastic teacher and I really enjoyed the different styles of dance. Even got to do a few ballet moves I havent done in awhile. They have an indoor walking track, an indoor pool, a place for 6-12 year olds to hang out and play, and a room I thought was neat-a New Beginnings room where you can work out if you are self concious about treadmills in front of other people, or a good room to go and stretch or do some band or ball exercises. I just recently joined this YMCA location. It seems really great so far. The desk staff was very friendly when I visited to tour and answered all my questions. -The membership fees are very affordable (even more so if you are referred by a friend and both save 20%) and they don't have any crazy additional annual fees or long cancellation processes. -The free weight room is well stocked and has everything you'd need for a solid workout. All the equipment isn't brand new, but it works and it's solid. -The cardio machine areas aren't crowded, there isn't usually a wait time and I go in the evenings when it is most used. -They offer A LOT of group fitness classes, pretty much everything you can imagine. The instructors were knowledgeable and helpful, and I got in really great workouts in every one I've tried. -There are areas for children, and two hours of child care a day are included in family memberships. -There is also a pool, and they offer water aerobics classes, lap swimming, open swim and lessons. -The locker rooms are clean and provide daily use with your own lock (which I actually prefer over a gym that made me use a card and then carry around a key. -There is plenty of parking and the location is great for anyone in Coppell or on the Lewisville/Coppell border. I'm really happy with my membership and look forward to working out here for a long time! read more

My experience did not go well so far. I became a member for swimming classes. The youth changing room does not even have a bench to dress the kids after the class. In a 30 min class of 6 kids, they are 3-4 minutes exposed to the lesson per kid. Then we came for Tuesday scheduled Bounce House. Ooops they were under resourced and they decided to cancel it, you can imagine the disappointment of kids. Then we went to game room to spend some time, but it did not have a single game in it except a pool table with one broken cue. I had a great experience while I was a member of the Y. I learned to swim while taking lessons here. My experience with swimming had been terrible...I was terrified, hated the water and panicked just looking at he deep end. However, because of the excellent instrucors here at the Y, I got over my phobia. As a senior adult, I thought I would never learn. I was proud to be a part of the Y. I have the Coppell Y three stars based on their children's program. They offer an extensive array of sports, arts, dance and child programs at affordable prices. Now I must admit that while the programs are solid for the most part, they do tend to be on the disorganized side with the parents doing the heavy lifting. Now, with that being said I would not recommend this place if you are an actively physically training (weight, resistance, crossfit, boot camp, etc,) and are under the age of 40. The resistance equipment and weights are lacking if not old. Training classes are catered to stay at home moms and so of course they are mainly offered during the day. The staff is hit or miss, some can be very nice and helpful, some are straight up rude unless you are part of the Coppell clique that have been enrolled for years. The basketball gym has been recently refurbished so if you are solely into playing basketball then this could be your place. I wouldn't pay the ongoing fees just for use of the basketball court but that's just me. In conclusion, I would recommend the Aquatic Center as it is newer, has better training equipment/facilities, better service, indoor/outdoor pools, basketball court, and children's programs. read more
