It took me far too long to try this restaurant and o was finally able to rectify that mistake this past weekend. I came in on Friday night with a group of four of us for a fun double date night. Now I have been enjoying Indian food for years, but typically this is in the form of lunch buffets, or take out spots around Uptown. I have grown to love it, but I had never been into a sit down full service restaurant for it so I was very excited for this new dining experience. The restaurant is gorgeous and located in a historic Dilworth home along East Boulevard. The lighting is low creating an intimate night out vibe. The restaurant was quite busy, but luckily we had reservations and were able to take our table after a brief wait. The other couple with us were regulars and knew what to order so we trusted their recommendation for the spicy cauliflower appetizer. We got an order for the table, and they weren't lying it was delicious! Their entrees are all served with rice which comes on the side, and we decided to order some garlic naan as well. Once they bring out your meal you can set your plate how you like! I decided to try something I've never had before and went with the Dheemi Aanch KA Gosht. It comes with braised lamb with masala dust and simmered in what they describe as a browned onion sauce. I am glad I was feeling adventurous, the lamb was wonderful and had such a unique flavor profile along with the perfect amount of spice. Trying new cuisines can be intimidating, but I always try to get my friends to venture out and try new dishes. This place is a perfect place to expand your pallete, and it is a fun and vibrant restaurant at that!

I've dined at the restaurant before but tonight I ordered saag paneer and naan from UberEats. The food was delicious and a good portion size. Definitely recommend. They also have excellent chicken tikka masala. The restaurant has a small parking lot on the side of the building fyi.

Murgh Tikka Masala (5/5): SO GOOD! Very creamy with well balanced flavor (and non of the spices I don't like). The chicken was also very tender. Medium spice was perfect for me. My favorite Tikka Masala so far! Goan Prawn Curry (4/5): A fairly mild sauce that was quite sweet and had a bit too much coconut flavor for me. I still liked it though. The shrimp were big and tasty as well. Kheema Bhatura "Chaat" (4/5): Extremely flavorful with lots of spices. The pomegranate seeds and onion added some nice sweetness. I liked the crispy potato base, but it was a little too hard. Garlic Naan (4/5): Soft and chewy with lots of garlic flavor. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

I took my newly wed friends here as they said that this place was a restaurant that had been on their list. I'm glad we got the recommendation to come here. I made a reservation like a month in advance, but I don't think it's really needed. The place was kind of empty at the time we got there on a Friday night so I think it just depends. The restaurant is basically a house transformed into a restaurant. Inside, it's really dim as far as lighting goes. They try to set the mood here, but I think what ultimately happens is that people need to get their cell phones out and use flashlights to see the menu. Maybe it's just me getting old and not being able to have night vision with my eyes. Anyways, let's get onto the food. For appetizers, we shared a samosa. It was alright, nothing crazy or special though. i would say that the presentation was nice, but other than that eh. For my main, I ordered the Dheemi Aanch Ka Gosht. It was a soupy saucy kind of dish. Very well seasoned, as I expect from Indian cuisine and I would say it was spicy as well. So I would definitely recommend to order a side of garlic naan with the dish as that naan would soak all that sauce up and it elevates the dish. Overall, Copper is great if you're looking for a upper scale dimly lit date night Indian restaurant. The food has great flavors and would make a wonderful second meal out of the leftovers with rice or naan to sop up all the flavors if you decide to get a curry. The amount of food was good as well. Service was nice as well all of the waiters were attentive.

I was in town for a business meeting and chose to dine at Copper. The restaurant is set in a beautifully restored older-style home, creating an inviting first impression. Inside, the dim lighting and warm ambiance made it feel like an ideal spot for a date night, though our group of 10 also felt comfortable. We ordered tapas-style, sharing a variety of appetizers and entrées across the table. Every dish was flavorful, but the standout for me was the cauliflower--easily the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, I don't recall the names of all the dishes as one of our party members, who is very familiar with Indian cuisine, did the ordering for us. The only critique I have is that the rice was served last, which made it tricky to enjoy the curries as they were brought out. It would have been great to have the rice earlier to better pair with the sauces. That said, the rice itself was good--light and not overly sticky. The staff were incredibly accommodating and respectful, which enhanced the overall experience. The food was delicious, and I'd love to return someday to explore more of the menu.

Yummy modern Indian food and great staff. They made good recommendations on what we should get and told us to pick from a spice level of 1-5. I chose 2 and my husband chose 3. We both like spice but he says he would choose 2 in the future. The only drawback was the heat it was very hot inside. I guess the restaurant can only get so cool in the summer. We will definitely be back!

    Perfect garlic naan

This is the best Indian food I've had in decades! What a treasure. It's located in a beautiful historic home and the seating inside is romantic and cozy. The service is friendly and impeccable! Our server recommended dishes that we loved. The restaurant's signature appetizer is Kheema Bhatura "chaat" - a perfectly spiced lamb dish with pomegranate. For our main courses, I had another signature dish, the Murgh Tikka Masala with chicken. The sauce is so amazing that I want a whole bucket of it! My husband had black sesame apricot chili glazed chicken masala - wow! It was so good and the vegetables that came with it were delicious too. The garlic naan is perfect! We can't wait to come back again.

Very fun and delicious dinner! This was seemingly a flipped house with a lot of charm and seating in different rooms throughout the home. We started our meal with chaat, samosa and harissa shrimp. The appetizers were all different and I liked the modern spin to the chaat. It was served on a thick crunchy chip. The harissa shrimp was delicious and had tamarind sauce along the dish, which added a nice touch. We also had the stuffed naan (too cheesy & similar to a quesadilla) for dinner we shared the seafood medley - delicious and super flavorful, but not overly sweet. We also had a brown onion lamb dish. Good but not something I would rave about. For dessert we had the 3 excuses, which was a perfect ending to a great meal! Service was good, but I don't think they could tell my water kept going empty because of the glasses.

    Chicken Tikka Masala (lunch menu)
    Ian M.

This place is amazing! Lunch was only around $16 for Chicken Tikka Masala. The lunch portion comes with tomato soup to start and the Tikka Masala comes with huge portions of naan and rice. The lunch service is very quick and the staff are super friendly. Decor is colorful and fun. This is truly an awesome place to grab lunch! Mind you, the portion sizes will leave you a bit dozey if you're headed back to work.

GREAT EXPERIENCE! We came here for my partner's birthday, and I would say it was a success! The location is very pretty, in an older house that has been transformed into a restaurant. We sat in a room by a window with just a few other tables. There was also a parking lot, and it's pretty close to the East/West light rail station. We ordered drinks, which were both delightful, and an appetizer to start off. I had never had chaat before, but I will definitely be ordering it again. We picked the chicken tikka (classic) and the black dal. Both were easy to share, and I could not choose a favorite. Really yummy! As it was a birthday celebration, we received a little dessert. So sweet! I really enjoyed my experience and will most definitely be back again.

This historic house which is now an Indian restaurant offers an interesting atmosphere. The indoor views were splendid, though it felt like the exterior could have used a new coat of paint. The menu has some distinctive items. My salad was extra crisp, but also really delivered on flavors with balls of goat cheese, apricots, and a peppery dressing making it clear this was an Indian salad. For an entree, I went for their traditional black dal, and added an aachari paratha. The dal was rich, and the bread, which is cooked with the spices they use for pickling vegetables, was an interesting and distinctive contrast. I was surprised they didn't seem to offer much in terms of non-alcoholic drink options (their wine list was certainly extensive). There were a couple of vegan options but I was happy with what I got and happy I came hungry.

The food is good, but the atmosphere is uppity real turn off the tiki marsala chicken was very tasty, but dry the black sesame seed chicken was smoky flavored tasted like something you'd make it home, and the vegetables were undercooked severely. The salmon was delicious. Samosas was spicy and slightly overcooked.

Amazing food! We love Indian cuisine and this place came highly recommended by a friend. Dining area is various rooms of a historic house. It's such a romantic, intimate setting. We loved all the menu options and hated to narrow it down. Streetside parking was super easy to find. Our server was very attentive when we saw her. The drink service was very slow. We will go back anyways though and hope it was just a fluke.

This was easily the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant from start to finish. I'm not saying they're racist, but I can't say that they aren't. I'll let you be the judge of that. All I know is that none of the Caucasian people around me shared the same experience. Let me explain: We came for dinner before the Charlotte Orchestra show right across from the restaurant last Friday night. Let me start by saying that there were only 5-6 tables full at one time while we were there. I met my friend, who is also black, at 6:40; she had gotten there around 6:15 and placed her order. Not only had she not received her meal by the time I got there, 15 minutes later no one had come to our table to take my order until I flagged a waiter down and asked for our server. Meanwhile, every table that was sat around us was provided ice waters moments after arrival and their orders were taken promptly thereafter. When our waitress finally came to our table she either wasn't knowledgeable about the menu or didn't care enough to tell me what their current dip selection was, instead she said that she would check with the chef. I put in my order for the steakhouse burger that she recommended cooked medium and we waited a little over 15 minutes more before my friends burger came out and was taken to every table on the patio except ours before they took it back inside and then finally brought it back out to her. Needless to say the fries were cold at that point and the black bean burger was lukewarm. We were both starving so she reluctantly ate what she could before sitting it aside. I waited and waited for the waitress to come tell me what dips were in the trio appetizer before finally flagging her down as she passed our table without making eye contact. She finally told me and disappeared again after I added the trio to my order. My burger finally comes out over 30 minutes after I ordered it and it's raw, like pink all the way around and oozing bloody juices raw. I turn to my fries for sustenance and they are just meh but at least they're hot. Gotta celebrate the small wins. I show my waitress the raw burger and tell her that I don't want anything else because we didn't have time to wait since we're now late to our show due to the lack of service. She disappears again for so long that I had to go inside and find a manager who stated that they were "short staffed but that is no excuse." I accept the lame half apology and go back to wait for our check that never came. We had to go back inside and ask for it. When we did the manager finally said that he would comp both of our meals. That was the only highlight of the situation. I'm hopeful that the service has improved since this happened however I will continue to steer clear of this place.

As I suspected, it was an 'amuse bouche' offered from the kitchen. Today it was a Deviled Egg with a mustard-forward center, even containing black mustard seeds for flavor and crunch. As a fan of Sicilian arancini, I ordered the Dogwood's version as an appetizer. I was surprised to see several small rice balls, the size of hush puppies. I was expecting a single larger offering; 'arancini' after all mean orange in Italian. The risotto spheres were stuffed with pimento cheese and instead of the typical marina sauce, the kitchen had substituted a tomato jam with a subtle sweet finish. It was a successful southern riff on a Sicilian standard. Although I had been directed to order the Duck and Dumplings, my eye drifted to the Shrimp and Grits.
