We came on a weekday for a quick lunch. Service was fast and friendly. Croque Monsieur - sandwich was crispy and addicting. Very cheesy and decadent Mussels - decent portion of mussels. Cooked to just right Steak tartare - loved the flavours on the steak tartare. Interestingly the steak tartare was in chunks and not grinded which was welcome for me Chocolate nousse- okay but I would pass next time Fries and salad came with each dish. The fried are so addicting and morrish. A bit of old oil flavour which is understandable considering the amount they are frying. It's not crispy but instead very potatoey. The sauce that it comes with (like mayo) went so well with it. Could eats lots of it. In it's former incarnation, it was known as the Gramercy Grill. I went there on several occasions and was reasonably pleased with service, food and atmosphere. It has been reborn as a French Brasserie in recent years, and I've finally left my private confines and took a stroll over. I guess it was about time. I sampled a bunch of things. See my pics. Another French bistro we recently tried. Didn't realize how we missed this place for so long but glad we dropped by. The dishes were simple and classic but I think they were nicely executed. Mussels were fresh and the cream sauce was not oily. Duck confit with lentils are classic pairing but done well. Duck was not salty. French fries seasoned well. The star was the pomme dauphine, hot, rich, cheesy but not heavy. French cooking done well. Treated ourselves with a lemon tart but it was not what we imagined. This was more of a family style tart with great pastry, set cream, and poached pears. The flavours and textures were amazing and balanced. Glad we splurged on the dessert. read more

Brought family into Coquette for a birthday celebration for the books! One of the best seated dinner experiences in Vancouver. It's cozy, not over the top, excellent service. We opted in for the repas de famille at Coquette and we were once again not disappointed. Between the 4 of us, we got to try quite a few staples on the menu like le canard and other seasonal off menu items. The surprise of each dish is very much part of the fun! We were pleasantly stuffed by the end of the meal and overall it was about a 2.5 hr dining experience. Staff was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter described each dish and the chef came to out to meet and asked if we have any allergies or specific foods that needed to be omitted. If you speak French french, you'll find that some of the staff are from France and are more than happy to converse. The restaurant definitely changed my perspective on classic French foods and dishes in a good way. I will be not so patiently waiting for my next visit back soon! read more

Nice cozy spot on arbutus. Atmosphere is lively yet also quiet enough. Amazing food, we had the duck and the special for the night which was a beef tenderloin. All cooked to perfection with the lovely pairings you can expect for french cuisine. Service is super friendly and helpful, great mix of a homestyle feel with a high end restaurant. What a romantic and pleasant ambiance! I loved the decor, furniture, and soft lighting. The interior truly drew me into this restaurant. Overall, I would definitely recommend checking this place out on Thursdays for their live music evenings! Here is everything I tried: + Salad Nicoise (5/5): The tuna in this was soooo flavorful. Complimented the aragula and green beans well. Lightly dressed too. Simply a scrumptious salad to start our evening. I would order this again! + Steak Frites (4/5): Perfectly cooked steak, in my opinion! Well seasoned and each piece was so tender. The steak truly shined. FYI - you can't order this well done :) The frites were crispy and thinly cut, but had a sweetness to them. Tasted almost like sweet potato fries! + Pasta de Jour (3/5): Today's pasta was a linguine sauce rosé, with trout and halibut. The linguine was clearly handmade with good texture. The rosé was more tomato than cream, and it had a strong citrus element to it. On the sour side slightly. They didn't skimp on the fish, which was tender. Advised bringing my service dog to this small local bistro. When I enter and waiting to be seated the waitress comes up and says oh u can't walk through the place with a dog. I clarified she is my service dog and was wearing her service vest. She asks me for a card I advise her that is not required and she tells me if the dog police come by they will be in trouble. I again disagree explaining the laws and she says next time I will have to leave her on the outside of the patio! No I am allowed to bring her with me at all times as I am legally blind and know the laws! Someone should teach their staff what they are so I don't need to be treated rudely in front of my friend and the restaurant! Food was good. Started with the seared tuna appetizer would've been better not as seared or just raw. Then I had bouliabaisse which was cool and needed to be hot. It was served with a small green salad . My friend had a beet salad and the special of mushroom risotto which was ok but quite soupy. Not even a mention of a dessert menu or offer. We were too cold anyhow outside as they didn't want us inside! Train ur staff! Were I a person in a wheelchair would I have been treated so rudely? Doubt it! Not all visibilities are visible and all customers should be treated politely and learn the rights of disabled people! I live a couple blocks away and want to go back but will not be treated like this! read more

We love French cuisine! We got the family style dinner and added on the chicken special for the little. The coq au vin was phenomenal and my favourite of the night. If you are into drinks, definitely give the "some like it hot" cocktail a try! It is served hot as the name suggests. For dessert, the mousse au chocolat stands out. It is creamy and chocolatey and just the right amount of richness so you keep going back for more. Ambiance was nice and dreamy. Perfect for date nights. My friend and I had a lovely dinner here recently. We sat outside on their pretty balcony under bistro umbrellas and string lights, among planters of boxwood hedges. Really lovely. We liked how the staff here all speak French. (Being from Montreal, I like to practice it occasionally). No-one laughed at my butchering the language, and they all were really nice. The bartender made me a wonderful sangria - one of the best I've had in a long time. My friend had some wine (they have a very good selection here. Nice!). We both ordered the steak frites. The meat was cooked perfectly and was delicious, but the fries were not crispy, and mine were too salty (as well as a tad limp). But other than that, our meal was great. And I had a fabulous coffee to end the meal. Just perfect. My friend and I chatted for quite a while and nobody rushed us or kicked us out of our table, which we really appreciated. Oh, and they have free wifi too. Everything about this place is delightful. We already are looking forward to returning. read more

We had a wonderful dining experience at Croquette Brasserie. Our waiter was both helpful and charming, adding a personal touch to the evening. We started with the moules-frites, sharing the mussels and fries as an appetizer. The dish was outstanding--perfectly cooked mussels paired with crisp, golden fries. For our main course, we chose pasta sourced from their sister restaurant, Fiore Famiglia, which happens to be our long-time favorite neighborhood Italian spot. As expected, the pasta was impeccable, showcasing the quality and flavors we've come to love. A special highlight was the crème brûlée, torched at our table by the waiter. Watching the caramelized sugar form into a crackling, golden crust was such a treat, and the result was as delicious as it was entertaining. The ambiance was made even better by live music from "Van Django," an incredible violin and guitar duo. Their lively and romantic performance elevated the evening to something truly magical. Came here for my birthday with my family and decided to do the Family Style set menu. Each course was so tasty! Our server kept refilling our bread so we could finish off all the cheese and meat charcuterie board! :) Highlights for me would be - the salmon - squash tartare - fried pork with mustard sauce. - chocolate pudding dessert Overall, our server was knowledgeable and awesome, the food felt like they put a lot of thought into it and were generously portioned (we all left STUFFED), the ambiance was cozy and romantic. The mussels and frites were another joke, half of them were empty, no sauce whatsoever with the mussels ... the potions are to laugh at. And I'm sorry $23 for a Croque Monsieur? They charge really high prices for incredibly small and flavourless dishes. Will never set foot in this place again. By far one of the worst experiences in a restaurant in a long time. read more

We came for dinner and first impressions were good. It is a beautiful restaurant with a lot of different seating options which makes it feel bigger than it is. The menu is small which is usually a good sign for a French restaurant and the service was very good. So... to the food... We started with the profiterole foie gras and the tuna tartare. Neither were exceptional and the foie gras with chou pastry was not pleasant. Main courses were the lamb and the gnocchi. My husband loved the lamb, but the gnocchi was bizarre to say the least. It wasn't until the waiter served it that he explained it was made with chou pastry. I've genuinely never heard of such a thing and it was just plain weird. Little lumps of chou pastry covered in cheese. Just no, and why wouldn't you point this out on the menu? Of course customers assume it's potato gnocchi. Dessert was lemon cake with a blueberry coulis which was nice. In short, I'd go there for lunch to try it again, but it's expensive for dinner when I don't think it's worth it. We actually stumbled upon this place on a whim when our other reservation fell through and BOY AM I GLAD we ate here. It was absolutely, insanely delicious. On a cold and rainy day, this place was so cozy and warm and inviting. Dimly lit and beautiful, reminiscent of my trips to Paris. The service was above and beyond. Kind, attentive, and fun. They recommended everything we got and it was all awesome. We ordered a bottle of french wine and they brought bread and butter to the table. For our entrees we had le canard and le fletan. Both meals had us oooing and ahhhhing til the last bite. For dessert a creme brulee, lit right in front of us. To die for. We wish that dining experience had never ended. We highly recommend and would love to return as soon as possible. read more

We arrived at noon on Sunday and got the corner table for four. Early arrival facilitated a nice chat with our server who was from Lyon and recommended knowledgeably. BUT no Sunday brunch items which are apparently in the works along with an 11a opening. Service remained good throughout our 90 minute feast, without the server chat, naturally as the room filled. Almost forgot, the food was good, like 4 star, with the exception of a 5 star tomato bisque. Look forward to a brunch return. read more

Open for about six weeks so far and went for first visit during happy hour which is currently 6 days a week from 3-5 (closed Mondays). Had Gougeres, cheese plate and frites with some HH wine. All were on point - gougeres light and fluffy with classic Gruyère. Selection of all three cheeses available (also have three meats for charcuterie), with fig preserve, grilled bread, and pickled vegetables. Frites were classic and served with mayo. Service was good - very minor bumps (they are new). Seems most things prepared in house, thoughtful wine selection and many local spirits. Street side patio available. Menu is on the smaller side (lunch, HH and dinner), but expected to apparently change and possibly expand over time. Smallish bar for seating also. read more

I've been dining out in Vancouver for 50 years. I can say without qualification that the service I experienced at Coquette was the worst ever. Half empty restaurant and it takes half an hour for service. Even though they explained the menu when we sat down, they decided to tell us when we ordered after waiting that our choices weren't available. We had to go back to the menu and wait even more time for service. I complained a few days later and never got a response. If they don't care then we shouldn't care ... about them. read more

Great ambience and the waitresses friendly and helpful. The wine menu extensive and fairly priced. My partner and I were both disappointed in relation to the food. We shared the foie gras and it was terrific. In fact we were excited about the rest of the meal. However it took forever for that food to come. When it did come it was very disappointing. My partner had ordered steak and frites. It arrived totally cold and the waitress immediately agreed with our assessment and took it back. It arrived a few minutes later still not very warm and worst of all the steak was so tough a fork could not penetrate it. I had coq au vin. It was tasty but it also was lukewarm . Great service from a friendly hostess and waitress, gorgeous candlelit dinner and patio , generous portion for our main - altogether a charming French dinner in Vancouver. Bonus is ample cheap side street parking. Coquette is a new quaint French brasserie with character. We ordered the French onion soup which was full of flavour (touch of alcohol made it yummier). Only wish is that they added more cheese, but the broth was on point.4/5 Kale salad included a runny egg, fantastic bacon and pickled vegetables - love the combination especially with the perfectly executed bacon. 4/5.Would have been 5 stars if they grilled the kale slightly to remove some of the bitterness and add crisp. The main - lamb shank with star anise - was the highlight. Generous portions (unheard of nowadays) and we shared it between us! The premises are gorgeous, very much a classic French brasserie. Very good wine section....all French wines. The service was friendly and attentive. We were there for dinner and started with the salad which was tasty and refreshing. I ordered the steelhead trout which was cooked to perfection and the most delicious and buttery steelhead trout dish I've ever had. My partner ordered the duck and pork tagliatle which was rich and filling...comfort food. He paired his with a tasty red Burgundy and I paired mine with a crispy Chablis. The chocolate salted pot de creme was wonderful and perfect with coffee. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back. I am hoping that in the future there might be some seasonal daily specials. read more
