I very rarely give a full 5 stars, but Dachi deserves it. After coming here for almost 5 years, I can say, with some authority, it's just plain excellent. The staff are incredible, always. The service here makes me never want to go anywhere else. They know the food, the drinks, and the people. The drinks always hit. Whether it's sake, a local wine, or the newest cocktail they dreamed up, every drink is curated to be amazing. This place is more: the best dinner party of your life vibes than restaurant. Now the food. I crave the devilled eggs, I long for the savoury churros, and every dish is just incredible--thoughtful, executed well, and portioned well. Dachi is a true Vancouver spot, it's Canadian, it has a French influence, it has Asian fusion--that's Vancouver. And they have the relationships and supply chains to go with food and drinks. Service was really good and the ambiance is great! Very cute spot for a date night. We found the food to be very hit or miss though. We loved the sablefish and the duck confit (the beans with the confit were delicious!) but we were disappointed by the devilled eggs (found the anchovy topping to be overwhelmingly fishy) and the churro dessert (tasted like it was cooked in the same oil that they might cook fish in? Didn't feel very dessert-y). We'll maybe give it another shot in the future but only for a special occasion as we found it a bit pricy for what we got. read more

A fun wine spot with a great patio for a glass or two in summer. Service was great and knowledgeable. They don't have a wine list, but rather a rotating selection of different wines that they are pouring that day/week. They'll bring you a few wines to try based on what you're looking for, and have a lot of local choices on offer. Wine was ~$20-25 a glass, depending on your choice and the wines they have that day. We shared a few dishes: - Sourdough and basil butter - just wanted a bit of ballast to support the wine early on. Decent bread, but the basil butter was overly subtle as a flavour. - Fried tofu in sweet and spicy sauce - good amount of crispiness on the tofu. Overall ok. - Mixed greens with pinecone vinaigrette - fairly forgettable as salads go. Nothing to hang your hat on from a positive or negative perspective - Roasted pork belly with charred cucumber - loved the pork belly, the charred cucumber was interesting and added a little something different I'd come back for a few glasses of wine and a couple of small plates, but I'd say that for a full meal, the cost eclipsed the quality. read more

Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. They have a nice outdoor patio space but we opt to be inside. We shared the tasting menu with a variety of courses. Love love loveeeee all the fish! Sooooo delicious! Portion-wise, it was perfect for the two of us. The polenta with prawns was such a creamy dish. Of course, can't forget about the drinks! We asked what's pouring for wine, and I told them what I gravitate towards, and they came out with a choice of three bottles. We both ended up picking the same one and got a glass each. Dachi is a great place to go for small plates, natural wines, and sake. On a sunny day, no matter the season, their patio is the place to be. The food is always packed with flavour (enough for me to forgive the priciness given the portion sizes) and I admire the number of local producers they work with. My favourite dish is a fairly new addition to the menu: savoury churros. You can't go wrong with cheese and herbs! I was pleasantly surprised at how light and airy the churros were too. The kalamata olive dip they were served with was so smooth and really boosted the umami. My other go-tos are dishes with Peruvian influence. Dachi's lomo saltado is the best I've had in Metro Van so far! And if you like raw seafood, try the scallop tiradito. Service is always excellent. The staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to wine. Ask them to help with pairings with whatever you plan to eat! It makes for a top notch experience. read more

I've walked by here several times and finally went with a friend. We got their set menu for $68 which included 9 dishes served family style. There dishes were well presented and delicious but nothing really blew me away. I also felt the ingredients used weren't worth the price point. However the serving of dishes was well paced, all the food tasted fresh, and I could sense passion in each dish with its flavor combos and modern plating. I thought there would be more Asian influence to their dishes from reading their menu (kimchi mayo, nori) but I didn't sense any of that in the dishes that were served in their set menu but I gather it changes often. Definitely not a negative, it was just something I noticed. The ambiance was nice with lots of open air and I liked the pink lighting along the wall by the wine bottles. Service was also great and the server was knowledgeable about wine. I would return and try other things on their menu. read more

Dachi continues to be a favourite of mine to come grab a special bottle for any occasion when I'm in the area. Be sure to make a reservation before you go to avoid disappointment as the establishment fills up quickly with patrons. I'm always so ecstatic to be welcomed into the world of wine by the staff here and they always enthusiastically recommend their own faves or new arrivals for me to ponder. It's never a dull moment here and the food is super enjoyable when shared with another person or solo. It was a bit of a stretch portion and price wise to share 4 plates with 5 people though (pasta not pictured, but it was a treat). At Dachi Wine Bar the other day, I tried this wonderful Sparkling Brut Vouvray called "La Dilettante" made of Chenin Blanc grapes, hailing from the Loire region of France. The Loire Valley is in the Northwestern side of France, and it's my wine friend's favorite region I hear him talk about time and time again. If you see wines like this made by Catherine and Pierre Breton, you're in for a treat as they are known as authorities on biodynamic farming and natural winemaking methods gaining popularity currently, with over 30 years of experience. So it's ironic because "La Dilettante" means "The Amateur", as I would certainly recommend this for someone wanting to get their foot into wine appreciation. This wine is an example of re-fermentation in the bottle, where winemakers don't kill off the native yeasts in the wine when bottling, in a process called low-intervention, AKA you let the wine do its thing and surprise you. Re-fermentation or secondary fermentation gives the wine the bubbles and its complex tasting notes from the carbon dioxide being produced. But it's also a very experimental process that results in something different every year, whereas mass produced wines are blended or controlled to taste the same. This tasted like apple juice and pears to me, but to some it might seem bone-dry to some with its low sweetness level. The soil in the Loire valley is also flinty, so it imparts a sense of crisp minerality to each sip too. I did enjoy the persistent fine bubbles, as a pet peeve of mine has become sparkling wines that lack that fine tuning in the form of enormous bubbles that just attack the palate and your throat. read more

I was having one of those weeks, and then my friend pulled me out that night to get a drink and maybe some food. And well, we wounded ourselves here for a night of debachery. I literally just called ahead to see if they could accomodate us for the night, and they said yes. We have a bar seat for the both of you, and I told them I'll be there in 10. A little story about me and Dachi, every single time I have wanted to come here to have a drink or like come to eat, I have been denied. Both of the times I have arrived, they were having a private function. And I was so sad, until this time around. Anyways, once we arrived, they sat us at a table instead of a bar, because we came around 6, which is usually early. And once we were seated, we walked over to their wine wall. The hostess went over the wine wall with us, and we chose a fun wine. We drank some of it, and my in training friend sommelier said it was good, we opened the bottle and started drinking it. While drinking, we were waiting looking over the menu, and decided to go for the full tasting menu. It was a good decent price too. I knew they were all about tapas, but I wasn't expecting SO MUCH FOOD. When I was walking out, I literally told my friend, I am rolling out. The menu was 9 plates, and 5 courses. So the tasting menu is as follows: 3 plates of hors d'oeuvre 1 salad & 1 soup 1 appetizer 2 main course 1 dessert Each plate has a very specfic flavour, but I remember the most was that salad. Holy cow, their mousse that was used on that salad was beyond phenomenal. From what I remembered, that was a pho inspired salad with pate. Smoked coho with huckleberries and friend enoki This was fantastic, I enjoyed the smoke coho salmon as this was my first taste of dachi, and it was a good start. I loved how flavorful it was, especially with the amazing texture of the enoki on top. Beef tatare A typical beef tatare. They really doused it with a lot of cheese at the top to give it that added savoury flavour. Might need a bit more oil, but overall a good plate. Herb churros with kalamata olive dip This was a fun type of food. I enjoy how you can just pick up a random food item and just eat it with some dip. I get it, and it was fun too. Me and my friend were swordfighting each other, I'm such a child. The soup and salad were: Pho inspired sald with pate, as I have said this was my highlight of the night. I would come back just for this plate anyday. Wow. Root vegetable stock soup This was fun, I loved how each vegatable was cut into little cubes and then cooked in a stock type of soup. It was a deliciously dark flavour with each vegtable and on top of that, the amount of vegetables covered the whole bowl at the bottom. The appetitizer was a gnocchi in ragu sauce. I wished this was more promiment, as I felt it was a bit rushed on the piece, and there could have been more in quantity. On top of that, the plating seems so half par for this. The Savoy Cabbage and Roasted chicken being the main dish was extremely wholesome and delicious. I loved that they grilled the cabbage perfectly and added a bunch of different vegetables within each layer of each leaf. Smokey and perfectly seasoned. The Roasted chicken was a good main dish too, as the chef didn't just use the breast, but there were cuts of meat from the drum stick on there too. I tasted some dark meat too. Ice cream & graham crackers with local berries A simple cup of ice cream and berries with graham crackers was just enough for me. The berries weren't overly sweet and it was tarty enough for the night. Funky restaurant that is having its moment - super fresh food and an easy going wine concept - either pick a bottle from their retail selection and pay corkage or tell them what you like and they'll pour it! Cocktails were delicious too! Food here had the freshest flavors - the salad and spaghetti were so simple but so good (we actually ordered spaghetti twice and are still talking about it). The Peruvian dish was a huge hit too and I think we just about ordered everything on the menu and would do it again. Service worked extremely well together - we had plenty of plate changes, silverware swaps and waters filled. The patio was full but not loud or distracting. The only complaint is that we had no room for any sweets. We found street parking easily off Hastings. read more

Food has a Japanese / Asian influence. Their vegetable dishes have tended to blow me away quite a bit. Roasted turnips, salads that often have some delicious grilled Asian onion. Mushroom risotto. Their meat / fish dishes have been good too but a little hit or miss compared to how killer their vegetable dishes are. For example I've had some variation of a salmon ceviche both times I'd been there and the salmon was pretty average for BC. The beef heart tartare was creative but didn't beat most normal beef tartares I've had. Dessert game is on. I will always have dessert here. All in all, awesome place. I love it. read more

I am often asked if I would rather have awesome food with so so service or the other way around. Well I didn't have to worry about that here as both were amazing. This restaurant is only about two weeks old, taking over Roma Campagnolo. We were pleasantly greeted at the door by Miki who showed us to our table and asked as how we knew about the restaurant. Then she gave us some recommendations for dinner (tapas style that changes almost weekly). We ended up ordering all five of our recommendations. Each dish was presented with a nice description from Ruth, who was just as pleasant. We ordered the biscuits, croquettes, clams, steelhead trout, and sunchoke, all of which were excellent. Went last weekend, and had a mind blowing dinner there... Delicious & unique meal, in a cosy, friendly but never pretentious atmosphere. A real hidden gem. Dachi means friends in Japanese, and it's the perfect name for the restaurant. You want to take your friends there, but you also get the feeling you're at your friend's place. Also, service is amazing. We followed the recommendations on the food and the wine, it did not disappoint. This is by far the best place we've been in Vancouver so far. Casual dining with fine dining (small) portions and price tags. Their menu changes often, which is fun, and their food is tasty. My favourite so far is the seared rare beef with chimichurri. For two people, you'll likely need to order 4-5 dishes to share, and each dish will run you approximately $15-20 per dish. The food was pretty good, however the front of house service was a bit too strict and overbearing. I don't recommend this place for large groups. I had made reservations online which the restaurant called to follow-up on. They advised me that the kitchen was not equipped to serve multiple dishes at a time for large groups and that we would have to do family style only - we were cool with that. I had made reservations for 7 people but unfortunately 2 people had to cancel at the last minute (30 mins before arriving). I arrived at the restaurant 7 mins late and was the first to arrive in my group. The hostess asked if the rest of my party was following shortly and I told her yes. I was a bit taken aback that she asked since we weren't THAT late. I also let her know that our numbers have dwindled which she replied with "You should have called me to let me know." I explained to her that I only found out recently and asked her if she wanted us to switch to a smaller table - which she replied no. I understand the importance of maximizing the restaurant's capacity, however I didn't appreciate the lack of understanding or patience. It was an unfortunate start to the evening and left me feeling uncomfortable and like we were inconveniencing the restaurant. Overall the food was pretty good, the pork cheek was the group's favourite dish of the night. 1. Burrata ($19) - THREE STARS (very creamy burrata but overpriced dish) 2. Wandered down Hastings today and decided to take the dog and grab lunch on the enormous patio out front. They were very accommodating, and had a little dog bowl for water when I asked. I ordered the fruity, sweet, thoughtfully mixed Pandora Punch canned cocktail and enjoyed the grilled eggplant and zucchini sandwich on some of the most delicious, soft, lovely bread I've ever had the pleasure of chewing. $25 for one person was honestly less than I expected to pay given the vibe of the place. Stopped in for an early dinner on the patio. No seating area inside due to Covid, but the patio was pleasantly shaded. The chairs were a little uncomfortable, but patio chairs often are. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly and helpful and quick to fill our water glasses. The menu is only online. Great for their fresh rapidly changing selection, but maybe not so much for an older patron who doesn't bring their smartphone or can't read the menu on the screen. I kept thinking I must have missed part of the menu because most of the choices seemed more appropriate for appetizers then meals, even though the prices told another story. Finally we decided the limited selection was all there was because there were at least two large "meals" and dessert was also present. I ordered a tomato and cucumber salad for $16. It was incredibly fresh and delicious, but it was also shockingly small. It was "I'm hungry" an hour later, small. The server didn't warn us we were ordering appetizers, even a little hint would have been helpful. My companion told her he'd been looking forward to a burger. He ordered the Seared Beef plate ($16) again expecting a meal and instead getting perhaps ten paper thin coin size slices of rare beef. Again delicious, but barely enough food to call an appetizer, let alone a meal. The only thing on the menu that might have been a meal was a duck leg for $29. They have a new menu for 2021 and it's just not as good as the previous menu. My friends warned me about it they were so right. I tried every single menu item from the previous menu and none of what we had today (4 dishes) weren't as good as what I tasted last year. We were making jokes on how all the dishes had nuts in them. I mean... yeah it will add flavour and texture but it felt like a one-trick pony. I would say the previous menu was 4.5 stars. I would give the current one 3.5. Plus, keep in mind that the restaurant is freezing cold. We knew that it was gonna be cold and we're dressed for it (both were wearing turtleneck sweater) and it was still so cold by the end of the meal. Even the washroom doesn't even have warm water to wash your hands. If you are a wine connoisseur, this is not your place. Natural wines have good and bad wines just like there are good and bad conventional wines so I don't believe that's the reason. The selection is just not good. I never had great wine there. There were a couple of ok wines from what we tasted this time. Service is fine. Not bad not amazing. We may go back when weather warms up and the menu is different just because I know the food can be really good. But for now, it's a pass. read more

Impromptu dinner with the family here. Have to say it's definitely not set up as your typical appetizers , mains and dessert. Definitely more of a place to chat, drink have something to eat, chat, drink some more :) That said, they go by plate sizes, something smaller, a bit bigger and larger. I think it's setup real well for sharing. You're not there to pig out, more of a light meal but there larger plates definitely could fill you up. I think it would be better to share and try more things. The food was really unique, different kind of flavour pairings and tasty. Tough to get right items like the octopus was well cooked. I wanted to try a new place for my birthday. I found out about this restaurant via Dailyhive Vancouver. Only 1 friend out of 6 had been here before so we thought we'd give this place a try. Cocktails were yummy. Food was delicious. We shared pretty much every thing on the menu, excluding 2 items. Menu reflects the season (changes often). I'm giving 2 stars because of the customer service. Miki, our server, was awesome. But at the start of the night, when we ordered our drinks, she accidentally spilled a glass of beer (i believe she tripped), and it went all over the table and spilled into my friends lap. It was dealt with, cleaning up the table and wiping down chairs etc. At the end of the night, when the bill came, we thought there would be some sort of compensation - i.e. 1 beer on the house due to the mishap. However that did not happen. (That was the cheapest item on the menu) When my friend went to speak to them, we got this explanation: "There is no manager. We are a small team, small business. No one seemed offended, and we cleaned it up quickly. It didn't seem like a big deal. Sorry if that was your expectation". Turns out my friend was speaking to the co-owner. Ummm....did Mr. Whiteside want us to cause drama to show it was a big deal. We are respectful individuals, but with a mishap like this - this is where Customer Service needs to show ESPECIALLY for a small business. This is a FYI - putting one beer on the house won't bring your business down, but Customer Service goes a long way. Overall, great dining experience however, we won't be returning. read more

What a cool, recently opened neighborhood spot run by industry veterans! My wife and I were spending a few days in Vancouver and stayed in the Hastings-Sunrise area. While having dinner at another restaurant the night before, we met a local who recommended Dachi, and what a find it is. In fact, the food and service were so good we went two nights in a row. The first evening we started with small plates of the burrata with sourdough bread, then went to the octopus. The main event was steelhead trout, followed by a Panna cotta for dessert. Our server answered all our questions and carefully explained what was plated on each serving. She offered us tastings of the various wines we were interested in. The second night we were there, we were greeted like old friends. Miki, one of the co-owners explained to us how after she and fellow co-owner Stephen wanted to open a friendly neighborhood restaurant after they both had been in the corporate dining world. This night we started with the heirloom tomatoes, followed by a bowl of Manilla clams in a savory broth. For the main course, we ordered the chuck flat, a piece of braised beef cooked to tender perfection. Dessert was a chocolate cake. While every dish we had was great, the chocolate dessert was our least favorite--to dense and heavy. Both nights we noticed many of the guests appeared to be regulars as the staff spoke to them on a more personal level than your typical "Hi, I'm Bob. I'll be your waiter for the night" response at most other establishments. Just go and enjoy yourself. The menu is farm-to-table so it can change by the day, week, or season. Tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. The service is pretty good. Our server kept coming back to check up on us and kept refilling our water. Drinks are pretty pricey here but delicious. Had a fruity drink that I left to the server and bartender to surprise me. Really enjoyed it but finished it in a few gulps. The glass was too small. Some of the food portions were good and others tiny. The biscuit was good but $7 for 2 small biscuits was a rip off. The mussel dish was lacking in flavour and the raw onions didn't do it for me. There were only 7 tiny mussels. The sablefish was delicious and probably my favourite dish. The duck was also very good - tender and flavourful but not sure about the granola and the sides on the dish. The chanterelles were good too. The octopus was decent but the fruit pairing was weird. Thought there were some hits but also a lot of misses. I felt the food was pretty expensive and overpriced and portions small. The meal took 3 hours which was way too slow. Glad I tried this place but they need to work on perfecting the dishes. read more

It is good. We had several dishes and we were wondering if we just happened to order everything with pureed mash on the plate, but looking around the restaurant EVERYTHING was served on a bed of baby food! It wasn't bad, it was quite tastey in fact, and for the most part I felt there was a good variety on the menu. It just seemed odd that everything was served with puree. Someone was having fun with the Vitamix! The interior isn't much different than Campanolo Roma, cozy and inviting. The service was good, some great, some a bit overly enthusiastic that didn't seem attentive to our more mellow mood. We were told on the way out that the small but varied menu would change regularly so we should come back. It might be a while, with so many new restaurants in Vancouver every month, I wasn't particularly inspired to revisit despite it being close to home. read more

I don't know how they have so many positive reviews as my experience here was atrocious. After our 20 min wait turned into an hour we were starving and ready for a good time. The food brought to our table was wrong and a dish was forgotten (just write down the order, no one will judge you for it). In the end, said dish wasn't available and we got two pieces of wilted chard as an apology. Our server didn't know what wine they brought to the table (on their recommendation) and after two hours of dismal service we left hungry, having to make dinner round 2 at home. Disappointing and expensive when you could receive a better version of this experience at several restaurants more worth your time. What a necessary addition to the neighbourhood. A friend and I checked out Dachi last night and were delightfully surprised. A simple, well considered small room, created space for all to relax and enjoy. The service was mindful, genuine, intelligent and invested in both their food and beverage knowledge. Lovely cocktails and well chosen wine list. Appetizers, mains and desserts, everything was delish, satiating and quietly elegant. As an aside, I loved the wallpaper in the restrooms~ the staff was generous and friendly as to let me know the company (which I then looked up when I got home and was thrilled to find this resource). I came here last night to try a new place and because I heard they had a good natural wine selection. When I entered I was kindly greeted by the server Miki who provided me with a great recommendation for a biodynamic wine to try as a waited for my dining mate. We had the biscuits, sablefish collar bones, mussels and octopus. Overall I'd say the food was well executed and presentation was wonderful but the flavour profiles lacked in originality and the price points were a little high. I find this is kind of a reoccurring theme for trendy fusion Vancouver restaurants. It's a good spot to go for some nice natural wine and classy but chill atmosphere. I wasn't disappointed by the food but I also wasn't really "wow'd" either. Would return again for a drink. read more

Good food but dishes are very small and they don't provide a wine list. They pressure you with expensive bottles at the table, and then they charge a surprise $15 "in-house corking fee" (mentioned in very fine print on the menu). They justify it by saying that their base wine prices are "retail", which does not make sense, and was not true in our case (wine retail was $34, their markup was $59 + the corking fee). I get that restaurants have had a hard time over the past 2 years but this experience just felt totally dishonest and, frankly, like a scam. Won't come back. read more

First time checking out Dachi. We sat a the bar for brunch, just happened to be mother's day too. I had the pork belly & eggs and was by far the best breakfast I've had in recent memory. Ended up staying longer and having a couple extra drinks for fun. Never really knew I liked pork belly until now, so good! Dachi is a new unique and delicious locally sourced restaurant on E Hastings St. with amazing food, drinks atmosphere and service. The prices are also reasonable for the quality. I highly recommend going. The menu changes often too so you won't get bored. read more

The worst customer service I had in a restaurant. The owner was extremely rude and I was very disappointed especially I've always wanted to try this restaurant and was excited about our 1st visit. My drink had a fly in it, and asked the owner to exchange it but SHE LITERALLY SCOOPED THE FLY OUT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and served it back to me as if there is nothing wrong with it. The owner had very rude attitude from the beginning but when I asked her to exchange the drink with the fly in it, she said "I can exchange it if you want but the flies are everywhere and for sure it will drop in your drink again" with such a rude attitude. She was clearly upset with me and probably had a bad day or whatever but her service is totally not acceptable and unprofessional. I'm so glad that we didn't order any food because I'm sure she couldn't care less even if there were flies in our food. I will never go back to this restaurant bar ever again. read more

The food was good. We ordered the biscuits, octopus, pork shoulder, and clams. However, the customer service was severely lacking. The server spilled an entire beer on my lap and we were not offered any form of compensation. I was quite surprised as this is usually customary in these types of situations. When we questioned the manager about this, his explanation was,"We're a very small operation and nobody seemed offended. I'm sorry if that was your expectation." Side note, I also didn't expect anyone to spill an entire beer on me while I'm at dinner. All in all, the food was good, but I seriously think they handled the situation very poorly. read more

The vegetarian dishes were a little unseasoned / underwhelming but the meat was amazing! One of the dishes we had was the Braised Beef Chuck Flat which melted in your mouth. Service was fantastic and very attentive. They also have a proper bar that accommodates for all tastes - cocktails were on point. We tried both deserts and were not overly impressed. read more

The service was great, the space is nice but the food was only ok. Had the squash stew which isn't very stew like. It lacked flavour. Also had the burrata which was good. Some gluten free and veggie options were much appreciated. I'll give them another try when the menu changes. read more
