Food came out, but there was one problem: no cutlery. Oh, how I am to loathe not having cutlery on the table when my food arrives. Sure it was delivered with haste; but it's the principle of the matter. Buratta cheese is not my jam. My dining companion enjoyed it well enough. The calamari was good, but so very oily. Novo lives up to the reviews- solid service, menu and food. Our party of 5 enjoyed a delicious meal with appetizers, pizza and salads. In particular, Polpette al Sugo di Pomodoro, Calamari Fritti and Focaccia di casa were quite tasty. We made an online reservation and were seated right away. Finally got the chance to try this Pizzeria on burrard! They've got pastas and other italian stuff as well. Let me set the record straight...if you want good pasta with premium ingredients, you DO NOT come here. We ordered 3 pasta entrees and they are all average at best. Overpriced with little to no toppings save for the sauce. Only the pomodoro stood out. All the rest, very mediocre. The pizzas were a bit better. Thin crust with burnt bubbles...nicely done. The margherita was simply and rustic. Very good execution. Very thin crust and nice bite to it. The best dish of the night was the beef carpaccio with freshly baked bread. Melt in your mouth goodness. Drizzled with cheese, arugula and olive oil. So heavenly. Nicely cured and presented. Calamari also good. Not over-breaded and perfectly seasoned. Novo underwent a renovation in February and I was lucky enough to win a meal for two from a contest. Even though I won a meal for 2, I booked a table for 3 for a Wednesday night. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted warmly by name and felt like being welcomed to someone's home. The contest included 2 glasses of wine but they gave us 2 glasses of wine plus an alternative drink for me, as I can't have wine. Talk about service! We were served the Chef's antipasti platter that was a huge portion of cured meats, soft cheese, basil, tomatoes, and olives. It was also served with fresh focaccia bread - so good and highly recommend it! We then got to choose a wood fire pizza and two pastas of our choice. We choose the potato pizza, the gnocchi, and the pappardelle bolognese. I'm usually not a fan of thin crust pizzas but this was perfectly done and the potato pizza was absolutely to die for! At this point, my friends and I were starting to get full but had to try the pastas! The bolognese was simmered for 6 hours and the taste showed. This was one of the best pappardelle dishes I've had and the creamy gnocchi pasta was a perfect balance to it. The gnocchi's were HUGE and unlike many other places, they were light and fluffy in texture. Never tasted gnocchi like this before and now I feel like I could never settle for the average starchy gnocchi's out there. We were given one dessert but we decided to order two - the panna cotta and chocolate sea salt caramel budino. Panna cotta was solid and though I am not a chocolate fan, the budino was good enough that I took more than one bite of it. Service is simply amazing - my friends and I felt so welcomed and special! I've been going to Novo since it opened. I love the atmosphere In here. It's hard to find a nice cozy casual neighborhood spot serving delicious food. The service is always wonderful, very welcoming. The pizza is some of the best in the city. The potato pizza is UNREAL; a must try!! I love the calamari as well, though it was a little different the last time I was in, but still yummy. The pasta is quite tasty too. I enjoy the pomodoro. My boyfriend loves the crab ravioli, but it's a bit heavy for me. You must finish your meal off with dessert, as it's always delicious. Since when you come the waiter receives you with a big smile :) I really like the options for entree, Burrata and Calamari are my favourite. Burrata Speck and Prosciutto are my favourite pizza and they taste so good... believe or not I've never ate something so good in Vancouver like these pizzas!!! Don't forget to order a wine as a side. I took my daughters and one of their female friends for dinner prior to going to Romeo and Juliet at the beach. We of course order the beet salad and bruschetta to start . Three pizzas which were perfect. Good service, country atmosphere friendly staff. My only complaint is that it took me waving at several different staff seeking the bill when came time to go to the Bard performance . We ordered for delivery. We live about 8 blocks away but we were too tired to go pick it up so we ordered through doordash. We ordered two pizza's - chorizo salami with thyme honey $27 and the Americano pizza which is a pepperoni pizza $24. Both pizza's are small / single serve. We've eaten at Novo before and it was good. This time there must have been someone inexperienced making the pizza's. The crust was very thick. I don't eat crust. Therefore we had about 8 bites of pizza since the center was very very small. Both pizza's were soggy and yet the crust was burnt. This means that someone tossed in the pizza and barely cooked the dough and then lifted it up to the fire to try and cook it fasted, resulting in the burnt crust. The chorizo salami with the thyme honey was ordered because of the rave reviews. I thought the blob of white on top was going to be fior de latte cheese but it was not. i could not find the fior de latte cheese. The blob was whipped ricotta with honey in it. It tasted liked and the texture was like whipped cream. If i was in the restaurant, I would have returned the pizza's and we would have received new food and never thought of it again. since it was delivery , you can't return it so eat food you don't like because you're starving. those 8 bites was not worth the $54 we spent. I would go to Novo for food again but only for a dine in experience. read more

I've only ever walked by this place and decided to order In on a Saturday night and I'm glad I did. So pleasantly surprised with their Neapolitan style pizza. Ingredients were fresh and the wood fired pizza dough was delicious. We ordered their capricciosa pizza -yum! It was average, I have been to so many Italian pizza restaurants in Vancouver that were cheaper and so much tastier. It was lacking flavour and it was the thinnest thin crust pizza. I felt I was eating a tortilla wrap. I did not try their pasta so maybe that is their strength. Overall, I am not coming back and I don't recommend it. We had reservations for dinner at Novo last evening. It was a nice summers evening and we had a table on the patio. They have a great patio. We brought our own bottle of wine as we enjoy wine with dinner and having checked Novo's wine list before we went we felt that the wines were seriously overpriced. The corkage fee is $25.00. The service was decent. We ordered the sausage orecchiette and fungi pizza. I found the pasta to be a bit too al dente for my liking and the sauce was very soupy. The taste was okay but I would not order this dish again. The pizzas are served on regular plates and not on metal plates like most pizza restaurants, because of this the pizza crust was soggy after the first slice. I also found the crust to be very chewy, not the way I like my pizza crust - soggy and chewy. We often like to share a pizza and pasta for dinner but there are many far better restaurants in Vancouver. It is unlikely that we would return as there is just not the value for money. I prefer to have my pasta properly al dente with a sauce that clings to the pasta and my pizza with a proper crust that is not soggy and chewy. read more

First time dining at Novo tonight and it won't be my last. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and appreciated as customers - unfortunately a rare feeling in Vancouver. We started with an order of meatballs and a glass of wine. The meatballs were very flavourful, topped with shaved parmagiano cheese and sitting on a little pool of fresh marinara sauce (see photo). We then had the truffled mushroom pizza and chose to add some of their fennel sausage (made in-house) which really kicked it up an extra notch. I also added a little chilli oil for some kick. My friend chose the Caprese pasta with fresh tomatoes, burrata cheese and basil. Without any added sauce, (just really good olive oil) this pasta lacked a little bit of 'oomph'. But one word to our server and she brought over a little bit of fleur de sel for us to sprinkle on - it was just what I was hoping for. Really livened up the flavours of the dish. We capped it off with their house made tiramisu. It was a little soggy, but the flavours worked really well together and the whipped mascarpone was very light. All-in-all, a great meal. Came here again to try some more Neopolitan pizza goodness, and to spread the love. Though we didn't do try it today, there is a Taste of NOVO promotion right now (Jan 20 - Feb 5). For $28 you get a 3 course meal. For appies, we had complimentary meatballs. I won't tell you exactly how to get this, but if you join their Facebook page.. The meatballs aren't just ground beef. They were very tender and had lots of other bits mixed in such as pine nuts. Mushroom pizza - recommended by Vincent N. Sounds basic, but oh wow this was freaking good. This is worth a special mention. Their pizza really is something special. Caprese - penne pasta with a light olive oil dressing. The cheese was interesting as it was similar to burrata but with some bits mixed in that made it noticeably sweeter. The tomato slices added a nice touch, as it didn't overwhelm the light flavour of the pasta. Everything at the end came to $45 after tax and tip, for 3 people. You can't even do this at Cactus Club. Of course, having the meatballs comped helped a lot. I guess the only thing they did wrong was get both my first and last name wrong in the reservation. Saw it on their computer screen. Absolutely get the Groupon if it's available. While not an inexpensive date option, we were thrilled with our experience at NOVO and are now big fans of the restaurant. We'll definitely return. The Groupon deal with the "5-course meal for two people" and was approximately $70 (for $100 toward our dinner). We made our reservations for 5pm (before a showing of the Black Panther at the 5th Ave. Cinema next door) and arrived 15 minutes early. We were seated right away in the back section--what we called the wine cellar--where it was very private and intimate. Around 6pm the crowds started to show up, so it was nice we had gotten there a bit ahead of the rush. The first two dishes were chosen for us--an amouse bouche of burrata (amazing) and a plate of fresh house bread, prosciutto, and some toppings. We were then able to choose two pastas, two pizzas, and a dessert. That's a lot of food! Truffled Fettucini Con funghi: I didn't really taste any truffle, though good nonetheless: a nice dish for a Spring evening Bucatini Alla Carbonara w/ farm eggs and braised Guanciale: Very good -- think of as a nice as a heavier comfort food CHORIZO SALAMI & THYME HONEY pizza: try this! I thought it would be spicy, but the flavours were nicely balanced BURRATA & SPECK (smoked prosciutto): also very good, though there are other examples of this around town, so I'd go back for the salami pizza above Tiramisu for dessert ... really delicious. Recently returned to Novo and things have changed. Their crust has lost its chew and is a lot more like a crisp, over-charred flatbread. They put about a third of the burrata they used to put on the burrata pizza, and it seemed like bottom-of-the-barrel stuff that had stiffened up. The chilli oil was bland with no flavour or spice--just a red, tasteless oil. We were extra hungry and decided to try the calamari, which was chewy with batter that kept crumbling off. The squid they serve is larger and less tender (like onion rings) than the little ones most other places source. Sad to see an old favourite lose its spark. We won't be coming back. read more

My favorite pizza Napoletana got worse, much worse.... The anchovies were dumbed down to non salty ones. If you like anchovies, you like the real thing. If you don't, you have other varieties of pizza to choose from. When I used to live nearby, would go more often when I had the occasional craving for real Neapolitan pizza and thought I may switch it up since it's been a while since I last went, but ordered the funghi pizza that I always get as it comes with al types of mushrooms. It was good as made with truffled cream, fontina cheese, sautéed mushrooms, chives as it's made in the wood fire pizza oven. It was more burnt than I would prefer but that must be hard to control in the wood fire oven, but so recall once I had to send it back. Would suggest the chili oil as it was not too spicy but helps to balance the truffle mushroom flavor. Complemented it with their Barbara wine as per the waiter's recommendation. read more
