We stopped into Belgard Kitchen on a Saturday afternoon during happy hour and were seated right away. The space felt spacious with high ceilings, warm lighting, and clean industrial touches. Step outside, though, and the street can feel a bit rough around the edges. From my visit, the double duck pizette was the highlight. It came out hot with crisp edges, layered with rich duck flavor and bright pops from jalapeños that cut through the fattiness nicely. That said, it leaned a touch salty by the last few bites. The charcuterie board was well composed and generous for a happy hour order: thin slices of prosciutto and coppa, two cheeses, olives, and toasted bread. This place was great! We were in town for a concert and Andrew's Vancouver friend suggest we go here. I am glad we did. First off you enter the old building not knowing what to expect. Inside it has beer making stuff, lots of wood, appropriate lighting, and it is just cool. We were seated quickly and also quickly had some good beers in hand. The beers appear to rotate but then seem to have good choices. I had the focaccia with some whipped butter. Wow this was good, the slightly toasted bread melted the butter nicely and deliciously. I also had the smoked short rib with the black garlic au jus. Wow, this was excellent. The beef was flavorful and tender, the sauce rich and delicious. I would get this again for sure. We had a large family group dinner here with a pre-set menu. The food was fantastic, though I don't remember every dish, the highlights are listed below! The staff were all super friendly, and even though there weren't many kids at the restaurant and my 5 year old kept wanting to run around, all I got were smiles from the staff which I really appreciated. I did try to keep the running mostly in the big empty room to the side (where they were storing some barrels and where I assume they have big events - this was a very fun spot for the little kiddos to run around and explore). We came here for my dad's birthday and enjoyed our time. The ambiance was nice. It gave a very chill vibe. It was spacious and clean. The service was great! Very attentive and all the servers explained each dish very well and had great suggestions.  We got the tasting menu. We each got a drink but they were just so-so. Rose wine flight, all the wines were kinda mediocre. 2 beers were standard but not outstanding. Wish they had a darker beer option. Sangria was pretty bland. The food, however, was great.  Starters:  Meatballs 10/10 flavourful with a little spice, sauce was creamy and tangy. Delicious.  Beets 3 ways 8/10 great. Refreshing with the little sorbet in the middle.  Duck pesto pasta: 6/10. Probably 3rd place out of the pastas we tried. A bit bland and was a bit one dimensional  Tagliatelle Nero: 7/10. A bit salty for us but the prawn and the chorizo were delicious. There were 4 of us that all paid for the tasting, wish we would've gotten 4 prawn instead of only 3 though.  Bison Lasagna: 10/10 my favorite. Flavourful. Melt in your mouth.  Meaty but not too heavy.  Lamb trio: 8/10. The croquette was delicious and the seared lamb was tender. The lamb polenta was ok.  Grilled picanha: 10/10 delicious steak. Tender. Well cooked. Chimichurri went very well with it.  Banoffee pie: 9/10 tasty. Sweet. A bit filling for me as an ender.  Black cardamom chocolate cake: 10/10 I was a bit worried about cardamom being overpowering but it wasn't at all. Went very well with the cinnamon ice cream.  I'd order this again.  Overall, great experience! Great service, food, and atmosphere! We have been a few times for drinks but all of the food smelt and tasted really good so we decided to go for a date night one night. We got the tasting menu and everything was really good! The dishes paired well together and the flavours were unique and cool. Only downside is the location where you have to jump over the homeless to get to the restaurant. Just have the uber drop you off right in front of the building and you'll be good. read more

We had brunch here today and unfortunately the food was bland. Each of us got different dishes and every person had the same feedback, the food lacked seasoning. We all felt like a little salt could go a long way. Service was a little slow, our side of bacon arrived 20 mins before our meals arrived so the bacon was cold when it came time to eat. I enjoyed this place for the 2nd time. Located on the east side of downtown, it is connected to a brewery. The decor is warm and rustic. I have to say it can get cold so best to bundle up. Unfortunately, had to get reservations for 345 pm and it was far too early for dinner. The good part is the dine-out menu is worth it. It comes with 1 sparkling red wine, an appetizer, a main course and dessert. I had the bison tartare, which was my favorite. The main was osso bucco. It wasn't the best I had as I found it to be a bit bland. The salted caramel cheesecake was fantastic and came with raspberry sorbet. I had a bite of the risotto and the mushroom toast. The private area at the top of the steps makes for a wonderful birthday get together or any other special occasion for that matter. I'd suggest going for brunch and it really does keep the minimum spending cost reasonable along with enjoying some very delicious foods with your closest. The staff is quick and efficient while serving your needs with a smile. When it comes to brunch I tend to lean towards the sweet items or the more "lunch" sounding dishes on the menu. The steak and eggs was my go to choice with the steak being so tender as it's been cooked sous vide style. However, that didn't mean that I wasn't going to take a bite of my counterparts French toast filled with blueberry goodness and the special Belgrade bacon that transforms you to a different universe. I love this little hole in the wall! Came here over the weekend fir early fathers day lunch with the hubs. Being in the DTES area it definitely does not feel that way. The second you walk through the doors it's as if you've teleported to a European vineyard. This is a great place for tapas and some drinks, decent portion sizes. They also have a good number of items for they'd happy hour menu Unfortunately they weren't ready to offer the happy hour specials when we were there but aside from that I think we'd be coming back for more. Belgard Kitchen is located in the industrial part of Vancouver, around the likes of Downtown Eastside. (For those new or unfamiliar with the location, it's a rougher neighborhood (especially at night), so I would highly recommend driving or Uber/Taxi.) Having put that aside, the restaurant itself has a great ambience with high ceilings, low lights and industrial charm. In my opinion, it's just a cool spot to hang out with friends and family without being overly ambitious or intimidating. I've seen people of all ages (families to groups of ladies on girls nights) that make it a great diverse spot to meet up. My husband and I have been here a couple times for date night and we've always left happy with our food and experience. Their "West coast lifestyle" menu is small and refined, unique to their own and offers a gourmet experience. They are known to have a great selection of craft beer and wine, included a fridge area where you can buy to take home. On our last date, we decided to try something different and order the Charcuterie Vegetarian Board ...and I was blown away. The variety of cheese/condiments/bread/hummus was so flavourful that even as a non-vegetarian, I will be back again for just this board! For our mains, we ordered the Scallop Risotto and Duck Duo. My Risotto came in a generous portion with a decent amount of scallops, but I didn't find the dish as stand alone that stood out. Instead, I would be back again to try the other entrees. My friend brought me here for a late lunch date. As soon as we were seated, our server informed us it was last call for brunch before 'we switch to the other menu'. I would've preferred to have a look at 'the other menu' before making a choice but felt pressured. I also wasn't a fan of how we were sat elbow to elbow with the table next to us when there were several open tables including their opposite side assigned to the same server. The diners were having a very emotionally charged conversation and we felt like we were intruding. In any case, I enjoyed the taste of my colourfully presented Salmon Gravlax ($18). They were certainly stingy with the salmon but the potato rosti was great and the poached egg (unintentionally overdone but I don't mind) brought the dish together. read more

Okay, at first I didn't think this place was as much of a hidden gem as it was before but now am convinced it's still one of the city's best kept secrets because with food, ambience, and service as good as it has - still puzzled as to why people aren't lining up the door! Everything we ordered was good but the stand outs were: mushroom and bacon pate (a light yet flavourful and addictive spread); yam gnocchi with lamb and lots of parm; scallop risotto (citrusy and creamy); and the carrot cake (more like a really really good lightly spiced bread pudding). Food was delicious. I got the polenta which was very tasty and I enjoyed their gluten free pita (although more between a cracker and a pita). Their OJ was fresh and satisfying. Oat milk latte was splendid. Food was timely, but not to the point of feeling rushed. Ambience is lovely - somewhere between cozy chic, cottage core, and industrial. There's no advertising on the front door and it looks like a distillery because it's technically that. Once you go in, there's a small entrance to order craft beer on the left and a dining area on the right. We were located upstairs for a private area that could hold roughly 20 people. I recommend if you want something more private to book in advance. As it was my first time here, the lady said it's more of a family style ordering but I was starving as I came directly from work. I decided to try their Tiger Prawn Cerviche and Shrimp Nero. Both were delicious, however I would try other options on their menu when I come next time. Wow, why haven't I been here before?! We arrived as a group of four without a reservation on Friday at 7pm and were kindly accommodated at the bar while waiting for a table to open up. The bar staff was great: friendly, cheerful, and effecient. We were moved to our table after about 30 minutes at the bar, and we proceeded to order our meal. The server provided recommendations and was patient with our disorganized ordering. The food? Amazing. The osso bucco is standout. The carrots from the share plate menu were earthy and fresh and perfectly cooked. The yam gnocci was comforting and the perfect balance of flavours and textures. The flourless chocolate cake had me scraping the plate, even though I don't normally like desserts. Nice selection of beer brewed on the premise. The flights of wine were a hit with our group. Energetic vibe yet not too loud to have a conversation. Gorgeous interiors. The front door is a conversation piece in itself. When our evening finished, we left feeling happy and relaxed. Loved The Belgard Kitchen! It's located in the Settlement building which houses a winery and brewery too. In my mind, this means no matter who's on the guest list for your time at the Settlement Building - all will enjoy themselves. Our group popped in after a day of brewery hopping and we were a little hungry. We ordered a sausage board, a coppa cabana pizza, and tomato soup fondue. My favorite kind of meal is shared bites with good friends, and this is exactly what The Belgard Kitchen served up. The sausage board was so yummy, but to me the real stars were Coppa Cabana Pizza and Tomato Soup Fondue. The pizza is their fancy af version of a Hawaiian - but whatever sauce they have added to this thing really makes it sing. The Tomato Soup Fondue is exactly what you think it is - grilled cheese sticks served alongside tomato soup for that perfect, inner child, dipping action. This was my first time here. The atmosphere is really nice. We came in at 2:30pm on the weekend, and they only had a brunch menu available until 3pm and then they would switch to another menu. We were hungry so we ordered from the brunch menu as we didn't want to wait. I had the Salmon Gravlax Hash. It came with two poached eggs, some smoked salmon, and shredded hash browns underneath. Plating was interesting as it was only on one side of the plate, and there was a lot of empty space. At $18, I wish there was more salmon, and the beet purée on the side didn't add much to the dish, but otherwise I would order again as the flavours were good. Came here for a dinner date and had a great time. This place is a ménage-à-trois: Belgard Kitchen, Postmark Brewing, and Vancouver Urban Winery. The massive doors entering this place are majestic. It creates the feeling of stepping into another world, and the cozy interior keeps that going. We arrived at the end of happy hour, so started with a pint of the Postmark stout and an heirloom pizzette, which were both on special. The pizza used a cashew cheese substitute, which I had never had before but was creamy and not unlike dairy cheese. We ordered and shared a few dishes. Starting with the bison carpaccio, sour dough, and "6-minute soft-boiled egg", which was excellent. The gnocchi and lamb ragu was delicious and surprisingly filling. Service is casual and friendly. Despite the food being top notch, there is no pretentiousness here. We ordered a flight of beer afterwards and hung around for a couple drinks without feeling pressured to leave. Highly recommended. The Belgard Kitchen is a restaurant that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend! That said, I can't recommend walking alone at night (or even in with several friends) in the Railtown neighborhood the venue is situated in - it's seriously sketchy. Taking care not to arrive here on foot, you'll unquestionably have an exceptional experience with the restaurant itself. The food, ambiance, and service is all top-of-the-line! The dining area has both high top tables and normal height tables. Several friends and I started our meal by ordering two different wine flights, and these took up more than half of the available table space. No worries though - the servers are expert at busing and rearranging table contents so as not to detract from the quality of your meal :-) Over and above the wines we ordered, there's a good selection of local beer as well, not to mention some very tasty sharing plates. We tried the roasted cauliflower, the Wagyu meatballs, the salami and cheese board, and the bacon mushroom pizette. Everything was beautifully presented and completely delicious! Ok I'm not a fan of getting lost. I'm a person who plans my route and I literally walked past this place because the signal/store front is below the Postmark Brewing name... and then the door was complex (ie. It took me two tries to figure out) and then I thought the morning was doomed. They've got enough items on the brunch menu but nothing really popped out at me that I was dying to try but since I was here for a celebration, it's the company and not the food that mattered more. I ended up ordering the settlement veggie burger which comes open face with a side of smashed potatoes. I usually don't opt for veggie burgers but this one was very flavourful. The waiter also brought over their in-house made ketchup and hot sauce. I tried the ketchup with with potatoes because my potatoes were very dark and black and I wasn't a fan. The burger comes with an egg that's open faced and I didn't realize that I made a yolk mess until it was oozing off the board, since it's such a small board. I ended up putting the egg in the potatoes which gave it a little more moisture but overall, I think I would have preferred fries or something else. I'm a big potato side-dish fan but this one just didn't cut it. The burger was juicy and was still good even if you eat it disassembled. Overall, brunch vibes were decent; there were customers ordering wine flights already at that hour and there actually wasn't that many people. There was no wait, which I love since almost all brunch spots have wait lines. The tables are quite close together though so not a place I'd like to stick around for long since I prefer a little more privacy and I guess because it's part of the brewery, the space is quite open and can get breezy. I'd come back for the burger but the potatoes definitely need some work. read more

My fiancée and I went to Belgard Kitchen on her birthday to get the "belgard experience" which is a nine course tasting, we opted to ball out and do wine pairings with each (half glass per serving.) The food is excellent, I'll say that. That being said, it was 3.5 hours, our wine every dish came out before our food by at least 10 minutes, and we got mostly appetizers and heavy focus on beets. We also received a charcuterie board without any cheese, just meats, which we thought could have been a mistake? The entrees we got to try were the steak and the fish (one of the best fish dishes we've ever had). It would have been nice to have a pasta as their pastas were what we were most excited to try. It was a pricey experience and we're not sure it was worth it, we wish that we would have just ordered dinner and paid half the price. read more

Joined Belgard for lunch a couple weekends ago withal a large group and had a great time! The food was delicious and loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were a large group of 8 looking to do brunch and if you're familiar with Vancouver's brunch scene you'll know what a challenge it is to find a brunch spot that will take a weekend reso. Belgard was one of the few places I looked into that took weekend reservations for brunch, so highly recommend you check them out if you don't like doing the first come first serve walk-in system. The architecture of Belgard is lovely with the high ceilings yet still cozy feel. Even with the high ceilings and busy floor, I found the acoustic to be not bad as I could still hear the person down at the other end of our 8 top. I quite enjoyed the food as well. I went for the sausage skillet and found it to be the perfect amount of food. The mix of crispy roasted potatoes with poached eggs and sausage made for a hearty meal. My friends who didn't order the sausage skillet all wish they had. Some of them said the other dishes were not quite filling enough. Hard to comment on the service as we were a pretty low maintained group and kept busy with each other. However, I did notice I didn't see very much of our server...I would have appreciated a top up on coffee at some point. 18% auto-gratuity was applied in the end, which is pretty standard and expected. Though, I usually like a reminder ahead of time when I make the reso. Otherwise, reso system is seamless and I appreciate that they send text reminders. Our table was ready for us when we arrived, which is always a good start to a dining experience. Parking is super easy in the area. Lots of free street side options in the neighbourhood! recently had the chance to go on a dinner date and try this highly regarded restaurant... ambiance was very very cozy. its a restaurant with a brewery inside! - how can you go wrong, eh! 5 stars across the board. place was packed when we got there, but we quickly found seats by the bar. ordered a flight of diff beers and a flight of diff wines...so many choices on the board so it was hard picking lol. for food, we ordered the coppa pizza, meat and cheese board, and the lamb ragu. everything taste amazing! the meat and cheese board with couple kinds of sausages and cheese and the bacon pate, oh so good. you can actually taste the difference between the organic sausages. prime quality ingredients. the one made with stoat was awesome. so robust in flavour. the bacon pate was a winner too. very smooth & aromatic, tantalizing the taste buds to no end. the pizza was should i say...excellente!! crust had the customary bubbles, charred perfectly, thin but firm enough to hold the quality toppings, and made with real mozzarella, topped with fresh cream! bam! amazing! the lamb ragu was equally a winner. made fresh and reminiscent of the pastas made by the neighbourhood trattorias in italy. so tender and full of flavour. the butter sauce was rich and full of delight. service was epic. all my questions adequately answered. our water glasses promptly filled. not once did i have to ask. its like they could read my mind. i will surely go back and try the other items. what a great experience. came with high expectations, and this place exceeded them all. cheers! happy eating! read more

Weekday Lunch Review Came in at 11:30 and the restaurant was already starting to get busy I ordered the Roasted Mushroom and Country Bacon Pizzette and my husband ordered from Friday's Fresh Sheet special: Stuffed Portabello Mushrooms with Potato Leek Latkes. The food was served pretty quickly, so its good for people who only have an hour lunch break The Pizzette comes with Postmark Stout braised onions, aged white cheddar and a sunflower seed pesto. The mushroom and bacon tasted great but I couldn't really taste the braised onions. The pizza crust itself was amazing, not too oily and doughy on the bottom and perfect crispiness on the crust The mushroom dish was vegetarian but we didn't miss the meat at all. The mushroom was stuffed with eggplant, breadcrumbs, tomato sauce and topped with melted gruyere cheese ( this sounds just like a pizza) The potato and leek latkes were flight and fluffy This is our first visit for lunch, we've been here a couple times for dinner before. You can't get bored in his presence; he'll bombard you with politically incorrect comments, a sometimes hard to swallow sense of humor, deep insights, useful facts and uncountable mockeries about life's ups and downs (being his divorce his current obsession). He's one of those strange fellows able to speak perfect French with Parisian accent, a stress-eater who found comfort in the best restaurants and street-vendors worldwide, a food-wise individual who could recommend you the best place to have your last meal while making you jiggle about your fatal destiny. Speaking about Railtown, this neighborhood has changed rapidly. In less than three years, what was an industrial area with cheap rents for huge spaces has attracted artists, designers, foodies and entrepreneurs. Their shared passions, travel experiences and lifestyles managed to create an alternative vibe reflected in renovated building facades, big parking lots with cleaner streets, echoes of intellectual conversations and an intermittent marine breeze smell. In here, crowds of in-style people gather to praise local food and spirits. An eight thousand square-foot heritage building is now home to a collective named The Settlement Building, a group formed by Vancouver Urban Winery, Postmark Brewery and Belgard Kitchen. While mentioning he found this place during Facebook-stalking his ex, we walked towards a heavy-wooden double door that hid a well-known secret, a restaurant that doesn't take reservations for brunch because it has already won a spot in the locals' palate. The welcoming hostess informed us that even on a Thursday, we were facing a more than 30-minute wait unless we'd like to sit at the bar. The two empty bar stools winked at our hunger, we proceeded to follow her around a well distributed space accommodating wood tables, antiques (like the entrance's typewriter), vertical gardens, leather booths and eclectic groups of people (hipsters, tourists, trendy families with strong-opinionated kids criticizing the "deco"). I liked the bar; wide and long enough to enjoy a proper meal without elbowing people on the sides, tall enough wall with hooks, butt-considered stools and enough space for people to walk behind. Once the bartender greeted us with a wide smile, he kindly extended the menus while double-checking if I was really asking for a virgin Caesar. It might've been hard believing someone would come to a brewery to order mocktails. Tougher decision than giving up on alcohol was trying to pick between two sexy meats, the Waygu Meatballs or the Flank Steak. The lack of Argentinian options in Vancity made me pick the second option, a narrow strip of herby-charred meat, accompanied by good-looking poached eggs, dressed watercress and a jar full of well-seasoned messy potatoes (I ate my friend's jar as well). I wonder if they placed the chimichurri on top of the flank to camouflage the frozen quality of the meat, a medium-rare term would've helped to keep some of the juices. Big claps for those eggs, I was impressed by the runniness and perfect shape. After having a bite of the Wagyu meatballs, I realized that my friend won again, he's picked the best dish twice in a row. The tomato sauce was a harmonic cover for those succulent meatballs, it was a pleasure to palate that remarkable tenderness. The seasoning was on point, the dish was a perfect synthesis of simplicity and upscale. I kept sneaking jealous looks at his plate, he kept planning how to avoid running into his ex at an upcoming wedding. His non-stop chat about how he misses his wife now that he's living with his mistress, distracted him enough for me to steal another meatball. Came here to see what the fuss was all about. And I definitely saw it. Unassuming building and spacious interior with super high ceilings as the building used to be some kind of factory of some sort back in the day. The menu had plenty to choose from, which was great especially for those who don't usually brunch. I ended up getting the settlement sausage skillet and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't remember the last time I had poached eggs but these ones were perfectly done. Our server was personable and genuine, which was refreshing! Yea, I guess I'll come back. Honestly, this spot is one of my favourites in all of Vancouver for a few reasons: 1. Their cool AF building - The Belgard Kitchen is located within The Settlement Building that also has Vancouver Urban Winery and Postmark Brewing. What. A. Lineup. Three of my fave Vancouver local businesses under one roof? Uber convenient. This building used to be a steel factory back during World War II and previously was used as a furniture store, an underground "club" and now a lifestyle business. This whole place is Insta-worthy and has me snapping photos the minute I walk through the door. If you get a chance to sit upstairs with a large party, I'd highly recommend it... beautiful greenery, high ceilings and string lights. Ugh, y'all know how I feel about string lights. 2. Their food. Currently drooling just thinking about it. Their menu is set up family style. The farther down the menu you go, the bigger the portions - so I was told. My faves? The yam gnocchi w/ lamb, the coppa cabana pizette (quite possibly one of the best pizza's I've had), and their grilled cheese sticks w/ tomato soup. Cue more drool. 3. Their drinks. A winery AND brewery? Oh god, I'm in heaven. They have 34 wines on tap... yup, you read that right... ON TAP. Fresh AF. Their rose and clos du solei are probably my top 2 wines. As for beers, I'm a huge fan of any of their IPAs. They come out with quite a few seasonal options, so all the more reason to visit them more often. 4. Their staff. Shoutout to their wonderful bartenders, servers, and staff who make sure to treat you right at home. Love love love this place. Belgard Kitchen is a restaurant with a menu with multicultural inspirations. I ordered the Salmon Gravlax Hash, which came with house cured sockeye, crispy potatoes, avocado, beet puree and picked onions on a bed of arugula with poached eggs on top. It was light as well as delicious and exactly what I wanted. I ordered an extra egg so all 3 eggs were perfectly runny on top of my salad. My husband ordered the Railtown Breakfast Wrap which had fried egg, bacon, avocado, arugula, sprouts, pickled onion, hummus all contained in a flatbread with a side a potatoes. My daughter and husband loved this dish even more than mine. Since my daughter still takes an afternoon nap, we had limited time before having to go home to put her in bed. We decided to change our plans to stay longer just to admire the décor after our meal. From the high ceilings, vintage fireplace, wine barrels, wooden tables and to their tastefully arranged antiques, we were impressed. We can't wait to come back for lunch or dinner. read more

They source most of their ingredients locally, including happy meat from 2 Rivers Farm (important if you're into ethical meat) and artisan GF bread from the East Village bakery. The dishes are designed to share, so go with friends, and go hungry. Tons of options on the menu for your meat loving, paleo, dairy free, gluten free and "eats anything" friends alike. Really cool vibes in this place, and lots of cool IG shots if you wanna snap away your food. Looks like a good venue for groups too if you're organizing a party!
