I'd never heard of this place. Someone else in the family suggested this restaurant. It's tucked away on a street that almost seems like an alley and yet it's not quite an alley. It is actually still a street. We came here to celebrate a birthday in the family. There were a variety of dishes ordered for the table: Seasonal Green salad, House Bread, Cauliflower Carbonara and Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio. I loved the dips for the house bread. Especially the chili oil. That was quite a sensation for the taste buds, and in a very pleasant way. For my main course I ordered the Casarecce al Pesto di Pistacchi with Arugula. It was on a specials sheet for Wednesdays. We were here on a Wednesday and they have Mangia Wednesdays specials. This dish was actually on the regual menu as well except that it went by a different name on the regular menu, and also had the addition of broccolini on it in the regular menu. I enjoyed my dish but it didn't have broccolini in it and I'd have enjoyed it more with broccolini. We ordered some Tiramisu and Affogato for dessert. I wasn't sure what to expect here it was a random choice. It's located adjacent to Kingsgate mall but has a cozy artisanal aesthetic. The interior is cute and quaint. The menu was very limited-only pasta, not very protien forward dishes. The entrees range from 20-33$ which is on the pricier side. I looked around and saw plenty of dishes being served that all seemed pasta heavy. The carbonara looked interesting. I wasn't a fan of the foccacia as it had too much rosemary-you'll be picking the herbs out of your teeth later. I ordered the combier pasta with prawns, the prawns were juicy and tasty but buried beneath my bland dry spaghetti and the shells were on--yuck! One thing I detest is fighting with my food. It was such a downer to have to rip the legs off with my fingers. It was a greasy, buttery mess all over my fingers. Not enjoyable in the least. The vegetable platter was blasaie and not very elevated. The dipping sauce was not good. It was runny and lacked any type of flavour. Our waiter was new and he knew little about the menu. He had to go ask after every question I had. I noticed feedback in other reviews about the wait staff being new also. Maybe indicative of high turnover?! I ordered meatballs to go and they were also a flop. Tasteless slathered in a sweet mushy burata type cheese. I brought them to go for another person and it was rejected. They also tried the foccacia and also didn't like it. The biggest turn off is the lack of parking in the area. We walked two blocks and there was 1 hr parking available only. We ate lunch here and it was a great meal. I ordered some focaccia to start. It was served with olive oil, chilli oil and balsamic vinegar. I enjoyed the variety of dipping oils. I had pasta for my main course. The spaghetti and meatballs were delicious and the side salad was good. The weekday pasta special was a generous portion for the price as well. Lastly, we shared a tiramisu and it tasted homemade and good as well. Service was great. Our server refilled water regularly. Food arrived fairly quickly. No complaints there. We got the bread to start which was tasty and came with three sides (balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and a house-made chili oil). For our mains I got the oyster mushroom piccata and my partner got the rigatoni all'amatriciana and unfortunately we were disappointed with both. My dish was flavourless and overloaded with oil which made it hard to eat and my partner's tasted like salsa sauce and only have two small strips of pancetta. The space is super cute though and they have a nice patio out back for the summer months! The service was average as well. The farmhouse is a small restaurant that packs a punch. It has a warm and cozy vibe with high quality eats. The staff are calm and friendly and are very knowledgeable about the menu and offerings. I ordered the feature cut of the day and was presented with a beautiful medium rare steak with polenta, a, confit garlic purée and arugula salad. I had not tried polenta before so cannot compare it to others, but it was delicious and the steak was one of the best I have had. I find restaurants usually over serve portions, but this portion was just the right size allowing me to leave none for leftovers. The food tasted incredible fresh and had great presentation. My friend ordered the calamarata al pesto di pistacchi and had nothing but good things to say about it. Opened in November 2022, this restaurant is a hidden gem tucked behind the Kingsgate Mall. Ambiance is bright with a rustic interior. Servers were very accommodating. We ordered the following large plates: *HOKKAIDO SEA SCALLOP RISOTTO (5/5) love the added texture of crispy rice pops *STEELHEAD TROUT (4/5) goes very well with fregola pasta *FARMHOUSE HALF ROASTED CHICKEN (5/5) old fashioned roast chicken can be a simple and unassuming dish but Farmhouse's is done so tender and juicy. Been on my list for awhile and was glad we made it out to try it. For Sunday brunch, it wasn't very busy. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It feels warm, bright, and homey. They have plenty of seating and even a patio out back. The brunch menu isn't extensive, but it has some unique dishes. Roast porchetta benedict- this was a really large piece of porchetta. We all enjoyed it. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The roasted potatoes were crisp and seasoned. N'duja and fennel sausage hash- Again, the eggs were cooked perfectly and everything paired well together. The hollandaise added a richness. Baked polenta- this was just okay. It seemed to be too much polenta vs the toppings. House focaccia- wish it was served with some balsamic or a dip. It also could have used a bit more salt on the outside. The Farmhouse is a cozy and rustic restaurant featuring classic Italian cuisine. It's tucked within the Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood and the mastermind behind this warm abode-like restaurant is none other than Curtis Luk, contestant of TopChef Canada! I was very excited to try the food as one of my party members had previously gone and expressed how good the food was. Everything was enjoyed family style as that's what most Asian people like to do! Besides, who wouldn't want a taste of everything on the table haha. Appetizers: Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio - $26 The portion size was good. It's not the best carpaccio I've ever had but it does satisfy adequately. I found the flavours mild but that may be because of how delicious and flavourful the other appetizers were. Burrata - $19 So delicious!! It's a simple melange of ingredients but I found the combination of the kale sauce and the sweet apple and onion very pleasing to the palate. For reference, the smaller size burrata divided among 4 people allowed approximately one bite per person. If you love burrata, you may want to order the larger size. Cauliflower Barley Carbonara - $13 I had no idea cauliflower and carbonara could be such a delicious combination. It was incredibly flavourful and the texture of cauliflower and barley complemented each other very well. The bits of pancetta were a treat as well. Mains: Farmhouse Feature Cut - $52 The cut for that day was the tenderloin steak and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection and well seasoned. The majority of us thought the polenta wasn't our thing but the bf's mom enjoyed it! For $52, it is on the heftier price side but do know that it is incredibly well-cooked and delicious. Tagliatelle al Ragu - $29 Yummy! The pasta was cooked well and the duck ragu was well seasoned and delicious. I like how the pasta was super al dente. Sea Scallop Risotto - $42 This one was definitely my favourite. The scallops were seared to PERFECTION. I liked that the risotto wasn't too heavy or salty as it allowed plenty of room to savour and taste the scallops. Dessert: Tiramisu - $11 I liked the creaminess of the marscapone, as mentioned in another review, would love for there to be more espresso to help balance out a flavours a bit more. Panna Cotta - $10 The rest of my party enjoyed this one a lot (I was too busy devouring the tiramisu because I am a tiramisu person LOL), it's light and pleasing to the palate. A perfect end to a flavour town trip to Italian cuisine. We booked the restaurant through FirstTable and received 50% at the end of our meal which I highly recommend if you're looking for a great deal and don't mind dining early. (Be sure to tip on the total bill before discount!) Service was good (especially kitchen service!!), our server seemed more on the cool side but otherwise, mise en place and table attentiveness were perfect. My favourites dishes are the Burrata and house bread (so good & the cheese is from Italy), Polpette (meatballs), Tonno E Cipolla (tuna), Sea Scallop Risotto and Tiramisu. Was not a big fan of the Cauliflower Carbonara (didn't like the texture and lacked flavour) and Tagliatelle Al Ragu (pasta not al dentel and was dryer with little sauce. There are beautiful murals on the opposite building so I would highly recommend sitting by the windows. Our favourite is the roasted carrot salad. The colours were vibrant and appetizing. The carrots were crunchy and flavourful. A very well executed dish! The tagliatelle al ragu has duck ragu, cured egg yolk, and chicken liver mousse. For food, we started with the polpette (beef and pork meatballs) and the tomato tonnat. Incredible. Meatballs were tender and I was really surprised at how flavourful the tomato tonnat was. For mains we had the duck ragu and hokkaido sea scallop risotto, also with a side of cauliflower and barley carbonara, as well as roasted artichoke hearts. Service was excellent and the staff were kind to us. We got the scallop risotto which was fresh and citrusy. Risotto was perfectly cooked with some crunch from the chicharron. The tagliatelle was also good and comes with foie gras. I felt like the foie gras didn't add too much to the dish and I think some heat could've added some more depth in flavour. This was my second time dining in with friends. The pasta was cooked well, al dente. We all loved the ambiance as it feels warm and cozy. It's well lit and makes it a nice environment when it's dark and cold outside. Service was nice, but nothing exceptional. Their Wednesday Feature menu has pasta dishes for $18 (compared to $27-30 regularly), which is a great deal! The reason I pulled a star is because they don't bring out the Happy Hour/Wednesday special menu upon being seated. The first time I visited was during happy hour and my friend had checked the website prior to arriving so she had been aware of the happy hour menu. We had to ask for the Happy Hour menu specifically from the staff. I passed this off as simply just forgetfulness. The second time I visited was on a Wednesday, when they have their Wednesday Feature menu. Again, one of my friends had checked the menu online earlier that day and was aware there was a feature menu. Upon being seated, we were given the regular menus and had to ask the staff if they had a Wednesday menu (which they did). I grew skeptical the second time around as it seems like they intentionally do not give out feature menus unless you specifically ask for it (which has much cheaper prices!). read more

I was excited to try this new restaurant by Curtis Luk, one of the contestants on Top Chef Canada. Serving staff was friendly, but being a new restaurant there were a lot of minor mistakes. It's nice they have an in-house sommelier, but also strange that after answering my wine question, the sommelier only took my husbands and my drink order and ignored the couple that was with us. We had to wave down the server for our friends to order and their drinks came after. We were trying to decide on the "Be Our Guest" family style tasting menu for $69/person or ordering a la carte because I really wanted to try the sea urchin risotto. The server told me if I really wanted the sea urchin risotto, she would make sure to include that on our "Be Our Guest" menu, so we went with that. It's nice to try various dishes and the portions were generous. I was annoyed that they never served us the sea urchin risotto. I understand tasting menus are up to the chef, but the server should not promise guests something if they can't follow through. Overall the dishes were tasty and I could tell the bread and pasta were made in house, but none of the dishes were exceptional. My favourite was the cauliflower carbonara because it was unique, and I was expecting more of from a Top Chef restaurant. read more

Visited recently, and as the other reviews say, the room is great, relaxed and comfortable, and the service is excellent. The problem here is...the food needs to simplify, and be the fresh Italian food that people expect of an Italian restaurant. My cannelloni looked and even tasted like overcooked enchiladas, smothered in burnt cheese, with (hey why not!) broccoli thrown in. The patio's great, the clientele diverse, it has everything else. The Farmhouse is a few months old and I've bookmarked it and finally had time to come visit for dinner. I really wanted to like this place, but there were more things that I disliked than liked. The venue is small, and very loud. Everything just echoes and everyone is screaming at each other to hear anything. Our server actually didn't bring my husband's drink because she didn't hear us properly. Only my drink came lol. I really like the open kitchen concept. I can see how busy the kitchen staff are, so hard at work! I also like how clean the restaurant and washrooms looked. Everything seems to be well-maintained. The food-was just ok. I had organic greens salad, and my husband had steak. He said that his steak was just ok, and his favourite thing was his non alcoholic peach drink. My greens were just ok, nothing to write home about. The house bread was very good, though. They gave us three different breads with three dips. I really enjoyed it!! We tried Farmhouse for the first time a few months ago and arrived around opening time, when it wasn't very busy. We decided to try a couple of pasta dishes, an appetizer and a couple desserts. For the appy we tried the cauliflower carbonara, which had a nice flavour. I was disappointed with the pasta dishes, firstly because they came out cold and secondly, the rigatoni was undercooked and hard. We went to celebrate a birthday and ordered the Be Our Guest item -- dinner for two with five courses chosen by the chef and wine pairings. It was spectacular and they went out of their way to accommodate our desire for an all vegetarian dinner. The chef even created a special risotto just for us. We look forward to trying their Wednesday pasta specials and their weekend brunches In the future. We also look forward to warmer weather when they open their patio.
