Come for the food. Stay because you're trapped in a service time warp. This wasn't our first time at the Coquille Broiler, but it was the first time we questioned every life choice that led us there. We arrived at 7:25 p.m. to a nearly empty dining room. You'd think that meant smooth service. Oh, sweet summer child. Our waitress greeted us with all the enthusiasm of a DMV employee on her 13th hour and kept repeating, "This is how I get when I'm tired." (Spoiler: VERY tired.) That should've been our cue to leave. Instead, we pressed on--like fools with hunger-fueled hope. Drink orders took 20+ minutes. We ordered an iced tea and a rootbeer. We had to ask for them, like they were being handcrafted in a Himalayan spring. My husband dared to ask what came on a sandwich. The reply? "I don't know. I've never had it." No attempt to find out--until he begged for sauce clarification like a man negotiating a hostage situation. She finally went to check, but not before announcing (again) how tired she was. Girl, same. But I'm not serving tables. Other tables weren't faring much better. One couple had to request their salad like it was a rare artifact. A pickup order was missing chicken strips and sat waiting forever. Another poor soul picking up food stood around so long I almost offered him a seat at our table. When his chicken nuggets finally arrived, she didn't even walk them over--just waved at him from behind the counter like a disinterested cafeteria lady. I'm sure the rest of his already prepared order sat in his car cooling as the Sun began setting. After 45 minutes, the restaurant slowly emptied. Orders trickled out like molasses in January. The other couple got their food at 8:15. We finally got ours... and mine was wrong. So wrong I had to wave the waitress back like I was flagging down a taxi in a blackout. I said, "This isn't what I ordered." She blinked and replied, "It isn't?" Ma'am. I didn't whisper it into the wind--I said it, and you keyed it in right in front of me. At that point I told her, "You know what? I think we'll just leave." She looked... relieved. She said, "I won't charge you for your dinner." And I said, "Good. I wasn't going to pay for it." My husband pushed his untouched plate away and said the same. She hit us with an "Ohhh... well..." like she still thought she deserved partial credit. Look. We've been here before. It's usually a great place. We chose to come back, we didn't just wander in off the street. But on this particular night, the Twilight Zone had a table for two, and we were seated promptly. I'm not sure if she was overworked, underpaid, or just done with humanity--but she'd clearly clocked out emotionally long before her shift ended. Will we be back? Maybe. Eventually. But for now, we'll be recovering from the memory of being ghost-served by a walking burnout monologue in an apron. read more

I wish I could give it less than 1 star. Smells terrible, like an uncleaned bathroom. Pretty sure the waitress was high. Had to wait 20 minutes before they came to take our order because some lady was being a Karen and complaining at the front counter only to get kicked out because the manager? Noticed I had a firearm. Stopped in at Coquille Broiler for karaoke night. The crowd was definitely older and seemed like mostly regulars, but everyone was friendly and welcoming. Music was decent, though not really my scene overall. That said--the beer prices were the cheapest I've seen on the coast! So while I might not come back for karaoke, I'd definitely swing by again if I'm craving a cold beer the coastal drive. read more

Got a to go order of 2 western burgers. I wanted one with no sauce. They put sauce on it. Between the two sandwiches we only got one order of French fries. They weren't super busy. This is the last time I'll be indulging here because 34 dollars was way too much money to have my order messed up. read more

The service is great. As a steak house, ....not so much. There was only 1 steak on the menue and it was dry almost chewy and looked like it was pressed under an iron.. im guessing it is the bar that keeps the place going. I love to support local businesses however, this was a poor choice. Over 20 mins to order with only 3 other people here before me. Food came out 32 minutes later. Burger was not medium and salad had wrong salad dressing. Asked for a refill and that took another 10 minutes (now 7 more people had arrived). The young waitress looked so frazzled. Went there for lunch today. Haven't been there forever. Ordered a burger with fried. Waitress has very nice and service was speedy. The problem is when I was a third of the way through with my burger I took a bite and found a bread tab in it. Made me almost sick lucky I didn't swallow it. Sweet! New ownership and improved food and service. There's usually something pretty tasty on special but be sure to ask. I do miss the "ol' fashioned greasy burger" The Broiler is so famous for, but I understand the desire to one-up by offering huge, juicy burgers with a ton of topping options. We've been eating here since moving to coquille 9 years ago, at which time this was THE place to go. Over the years the choices, service and quality has declined, so we don't go as much. Tonight we went again, and oh my goodness, the food was horrible. When they brought out the honey/bourbon chicken, the rancid smell was overwhelming. One bite confirmed that the taste was as bad as the sauce smelled (fermented perhaps?) - like pine sol and citrus. A decent waitress might have specifically asked as she took away a plate full of chicken, but no. Husband and son said their dishes weren't good either. We won't be back. (If people want good burgers, figaro's across the parking lot offers bigger and better burgers for the same price). read more

Our server, Tifa appears to be on it this evening. We are an unruly crowd but she took charge and got our drink and food orders efficiently. Great smile. Very helpful. Salads were here after a game of pool. We looked around and the dining room is right out of 1900. Great old building. Free pool table in the bar. Ok. It's been 30 minutes. Any time if my estimate is good. Yep. Here it comes. All the plates are nicely presented. I give my burger an 8.5. It was Good. Everyone was very pleased with the whole experience. read more

The Broiler has a new owner. This place has always had the best chili ever, that is 'till now. The chili i just had was mediocre at best and to salty. The chili always had big hunks of beef but what i was serves was made with ground beef. I'll not order again unless I'm assured there's been a change in the recipe. It took the watress about 10 minutes to even notice i was seated and then she had to come back and asked what I had already told her. read more

Under new ownership the Coquille Broiler has definitely improved. The food wasn't bad previously, but now it is undeniably notable. My burger and fries were perfect. And don't let the moniker "burger basket" fool you, that was much, much better than some greasy spoon would slide across the counter at you. The patties were cooked to perfection, the buns fresh and not too thick. Why, I'm basking in the warm glow of a satisfying food coma right now. The staff was super nice. I'm "not from around here" and was hoping my google maps acumen was taking me the right way. The gals at the Broiler were super helpful in getting me safely to the 5. So thanks Misty and Bert! :) The food was great! I had a delicious new york steak, with great mashed potatoes and garlic bread. No sauces needed for my steak, it was perfect. The prices were really great too. They had a variety of things to try, so if you aren't a steak person, do not worry. If you are an Oregonian or just passing through, get yourself lost in Coquille and grab a steak! read more

This was our lunch stop on the way to the coast from Roseburg. Service was friendly and fast. The chili burger was delicious and the serving size generous enough to feed a lumberjack. Coquille doesnt have much to choose from, i know...i grew up there. And over the years, options have gotten even smaller. The Broiler has the best burgers and milk shakes around. Burgers are large and topped with fresh condiments. It is a lil spendy, but really, in coquille...thats what you get. This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Coquille. I don't have one thing I would change. The service is always amazing, fast and friendly. The menu has salad, nacho's, burgers, and steak. I have never left there without being stuffed. The price is fair for the quality, and as an average I end up paying about $10 for my lunch. But in Coquille there is not a lot of quality restaurants, and you will spend about that much at an inferior place as well. Was randomly in tiny Coquille, Oregon, and needed some lunch. Well, as it happened, this place presented itself and in we went. We were not disappointed. The Bleu Burger was absolutely bursting with flavor. I mean really, it was fantastic. If you are ever in Coquille (an unlikely event, to be sure), do stop here if you need a meal.
