Whatever happened to good old fashioned hospitality? The best thing about our dinner was the chips (high quality/homemade) and guacamole - however our experience was marred by a series of hospitality faux pas. We ordered 2 cocktails, chips/guacamole as starters & 2 entrees. The chips/guacamole came out at the same time as our entrees with our cocktails no where to be found. We decided to go with the flow and had our entrees first, then our starters, followed by the cocktails which came out last. It would have been okay if that was the only issue. But while there was still guacamole & chips which we were enjoying with our very late cocktails, the wait staff attempted to take them away with ... "coffee? dessert? anything else?" ... making it clear they would like for us to wrap it up. We said we would be happy to pay, which we did. And about 10 minutes later while we were still finishing up our very late cocktails, a lady came by and said "I really need this table" - basically asking us to leave. We had been there for about an hour, not longer. There is nothing about this experience that was a pleasant dining experience. Good old fashioned hospitality? You won't find it here. read more

This is our new sit down, date night, being friends kind of dinner place!!! You order at the front and find a seat the menu's we had to go hunting for since they were at the front by the register. I recommend looking online ahead of time there is a lot to review and some tricky words so do your research! There was plenty of options for vegetarians. The guy at the register was a little distracted but helped out a lot with our questions. They ask you if you want chips at the register SAY YES!!!! They're homemade chips with beans and Mole sauce on top. So yummy!!! They brought out salsa and water to our table quickly and our alcoholic drinks were served right after. The margarita was good but I might try something else next time. I got a quesadilla with rajas con queso inside it was perfectly cooked and plenty of food for me. My partner got a tampiquena it's skirt steak, taquito de papa, and a mole enchilada. He loved it! When we left we were greeted by an amazing and super friendly server who said that they have breakfast and to come back and try again! She was very friendly! The general manager also greeted us and we talked about the breakfast options and other main dishes he recommended for next time we come for dinner. Giving this 3 stars based on: 2 stars for their SB Burrito Week burrito - not very interesting, just a bland mess, didn't taste chorizo or even potatoes. Came with a lot of chips but the small salsa container was only half full! Salsa was good but not enough! Skip it and try other burritos around town this week. 4 stars for their tasty taco I had a couple weeks ago with an amazing assortment of salsas served with chips drizzled with a mole sauce. I just wanted a snack to hold me over for a few hours until dinner and popped in... so that's all I ate. Based on my 4 star experience, I thought the burrito would be flavorful, but it was surprisingly bland. A miss. read more

Food here is good, but completely agree with the disappointing service reviews. It ruins the experience. Went in today and was treated the same way as the other 3-4 times we've been here. Slow service, with an almost empty restaurant. No warmth - seems almost like some of the staff seem annoyed to help you. There are other good places to eat where they greet with a smile. read more

Best Mexican food I've ever eaten! Everything we ordered was incredible. My favorite though was their churro latte and Flautas.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in town, but last night, the service did not live up to the food that they generate. Poor table location, next to kitchen service bar, a forever wait and a need to get up and say "we are here" to get our drink and food order. The actual dinner took forever to get to the table, and the reason given was that a large takeout order had come in. We are counting on this is a one off, and not a trend. Had a wonderful breakfast at this spot this morning! It's tucked away on a quiet part of Victoria right off of State. The food was delish - great salsa, yummy chilaquiles, and a totally out of this world Mexican Mocha that was rich, creamy, and so chocolately. The taste of the food and decor of the place was immaculate . I really appreciate the reasonable prices for how good the food was. The service was also nice. I had the best spicy margarita here. I went to Corazon Comedor with 2 girlfriends of mine. We have monthly friend's dinners and this month we chose Corazon Comedor. I was so excited to try it because I had never been. I was underwhelmed and unimpressed. Very cute, trendy place/decor. We walked in and sat down. We were greeted by a friendly gentlemen once we were seated. We sat there wondering when someone would be by to take our order. We sat for about 10-15 minutes until we asked someone and he said we had to order at the counter. I was excited to order churros and a tostada since that is what was advertised on their Instagram page. I was so disappointed to learn that they still weren't serving either of those dishes yet. I was very confused since I had seen them advertise it earlier that day on social media. We each ordered our meals and drinks. I paid in cash. They didn't have any change (beginning of the night), they scrambled and didn't know what to do. I saw they had $20's in the registers so I finally offered a $10 do that they could just give me a $20 back. One of my friend's drink never came. She had to ask for it several times until it was delivered after asking and asking. We were already half way through our meal. The staff were nice, that's the only thing that saved the restaurant. I'm glad I tried it once. It wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't go there again or recommend it. We ended up going next door for dessert. This is a really and honest review for this place! I am a local person, and I never expected that this little Mexican spot has to be with reservation. I saw all the pictures before I get there, wanting to try some of the different plates with my family but surprise we couldn't because we needed it reservation in advance. Great new place in town. Perfect for a nice lunch. The staff is incredibly friendly, they all seem to really enjoy working there, and are quick to make suggestions or explain the concept. Being from Mexico City myself, I was excited to try a place that in part found inspiration from the culinary culture of that place and I was not disappointed. Everything we had was so good and fresh. The pollo con poblano en crema tacos are especially delicious! My only thing is that this is a little bit more of a small bites sort of place, portions were on the smaller and lighter side, more akin to say tapas instead of full guisados. Mind you, I went during their soft launch and looking at the menu again now it seems they added some entrées to the menu. Overall impressed! read more

The food is exceptional! I have been searching for years for a place makes refried beans the same as you would find in Mexico and this is the place. I ordered the pork and chicken tamales with rice and beans. Fantastic! The tamales were tender and flavorful, rice was delicious and of course beans were perfect. The Corazon in the public market is 5/5, but Comedor is overly priced and the vegetarian tacos are not good at all. If you walk a few blocks over to the public market, I highly recommend the California burrito (sub steak for guac if you're vegetarian). THAT burrito is 5/5. Enjoyed a night out here recently. Not too crowded on a Friday night (Good Friday). We didn't have reservations but I would recommend. The restaurant is broken into two dining areas and the one away from the kitchen appears to offer a preferable dining environment. To start, the complimentary chips with beans and mole accompanied by an assortment of fresh salsas was a nice surprise. The guacamole is tasty, smooth and creamy, no chunks. The chips are satisfying and the food came out pretty quickly so we did not have to keep ordering baskets. I tried the enchiladas with shrimp, and that plate was portioned to fill you up. Tampiqueña did not disappoint but the amount of steak was light. However it came with a solid flauta, rice, beans, guacamole, chips, and fresh, warm tortillas, so I was completely full when done.
