We chose Cordova Construction to replace two sliding doors, and two windows, with Milgard Tuscany series "new construction" (not retrofit) windows. Other contractors gave us bare bones quotes without the window specifications, or would not pull the San Jose permit. Ruben gave us a competitive quote with all the window specifications, so we knew exactly what we were getting at what price, and he handled the permit. After we signed up, his team kept us advised of when the windows would come in. The installation was very professional, including the repair of the stucco, and the permit was signed off. We waited to write this review, to see how the windows performed. The windows were installed in January, 2023, so we have had them 2 years (and 3 winters), and we are happy with them. I wanted to get a quote on kitchen remodel but the owner Mr Cordova came to look at space but took no measurements of space. I was upfront abour budget project. He kept talking about market conditions/ beating around bush about giving estimate. I never received a quote even after days. When contractor comes to give estimate, I am used to them being meticulous about measurements and give a detailed quote. Based on this, I decide yes or no. I had a rental house that I wanted to replace all the windows and a sliding door. I have used Rubin Cordova before and was happy with his work. So, I contacted Rubin at Downtown Windows and had Rubin replace all the windows in my rental house at a very good price and he did a very good job. A couple of months later, I have a different contractor remodel 2 of my bathrooms and that contractor did a terrible job. Next, I want to remodel my kitchen. Rubin said he could remodel the kitchen. I wasn't sure at first that I wanted a window company remodeling my kitchen, but Rubin said he was a general contractor, Cordova Construction Company, as well as a window contractor. So, I gave Rubin the kitchen remodel. To my surprise, Rubin, with the help of his son, did all the work themselves. He did the electrical, plumbing, new vinyl flooring, cabinets, etc, and he did a nice job. I mean, when was the last time you actually saw a general contractor do the work himself. These days everything seems to be subbed out to unskilled workers as was the case with my bathroom remodel. Rubin is a very easy guy to get along with and he tries and does a good job. read more

Over the past two years I have hired three different contractors for a variety of projects, one of which was Andersen Windows and Doors. While each project eventually was completed to satisfaction, it required a lot of micro-managing on my part and caused a significant amount of stress. This winter my kitchen window began leaking every time it rained. I hired Cordova Construction to reseal the window, repair the flashing, check its prior installation, and repair the cracked stucco on the outside of the window. Working with Cordova Construction has been--hands down--the best experience possible. Ruben, the owner, is extremely knowledgable, professional, and honest. He does not hire sub-contractors and runs a family business. He was on-site every day of the job, he communicated clearly and promptly, and he and his team always arrived on time. It was the least stressful project I have ever experienced. I now have a completely re-built window and it looks great, inside and out. We reached out to several contractors for quotes back in Sep 2021 and Ruben was the quickest to respond and very punctual for the estimation appointment. He had many samples in his van to show so that you can get a feel for the quality and differences between different manufacturers/models. We chose to go with Milgard windows which had a 6 month lead time at the time of order. Fast forward to now, we are very happy with how everything turned out. We had 3 patio doors (one patio door being 3 panels wide) + 5 windows, including an 8-foot wide custom right triangle window which was more than 10' above ground level. Additionally, we had some pretty bad wood rot at one of the sliding doors and a rotting 4x8 beam above main garage door, which Ruben's team replaced. Not only did they do a good job to replace the windows, they resized one bedroom window to meet egress requirement. After removing the sliding doors there was some water damage from old doors leaking, Ruben was able to replace the damaged wood at a reasonable price. Rueban runs a tight ship, however he is not always present to keep that ship moving in the right direction. I called Cordova to install interior doors and was left wanting more. I had to call Rueban in to finish the job after one of his crew members miscut a door. His bid was great for the job, he's a couple of steps away from being a complete professional contractor. The items he needs to work on are listed below: 1. Don't argue with the customer. 2. Don't train your men on other people time and money. 3. Can't say enough good things about Ruben and his team. He recently put over a dozen custom, new construction windows in my house and fixed a bunch of other stuff along the way. The house had been neglected for some time so it wasn't a super straight forward window swap. I tend to do most stuff myself, specifically to avoid the whole contractor thing. Took a chance and brought these guys in for this big project I didn't have time for. No regrets, in fact I ended up giving them way more work than I expected because they were so great to work with. We originally wanted Rubin just to remove the bathroom door and put in a window In our hall / guest bathroom. But when we saw Rubins ideas we hired him to to everything in the bathroom except the shower i had already signed up with another company to do the shower. My husband I didn't want tile. The cost of the shower was the main expense. Rubin has excellent prices. He has great ideas too. He knows what looks good and what doesn't. For example the using kitchen cabinets. He did that to give us more room. I was amazed. We have so much more room and the cabinets are really elegant. They are also solid wood. The cabinet over the sink Rubin took out the glass and added a mirror. At first the cabinet's depth was took much. But Rubin corrected that. The cabinet is still very deep. Rubin added another deep kitchen cabinet across from the toilet. It came out great. Rubin is great with stucco. Not all contractors can do stucco. He took out the door, reframed the area and added a large window. We now have so many lights. Never had so many lights even have one in the shower . He even added a ceiling fan that can place music ! Now that's going the mile. He took the bathroom down to the studs. The paint job is so great too. Rubin had to convince me to use a spray painter machine. He didn't want any brush strokes. The bathroom doesn't have brush strokes. The painting job is really amazing. Again Rubins idea was great. When Rubin has an idea he works it out with you. I can honestly say he goes about remodeling as if he were an artist painting a picture. I do have one con. It is only because he is so so busy. It takes him a little longer to finish. But he is worth the wait. I never never would have thought of using kitchen cabinets and a flat smooth paint job.?Also Rubin is honest. He also responds promptly to text message or calls. Cordova construction is currently working on a large job on my house, including changing the roofline, changing the windows to new construction windows, retexturing the stucco and painting. My first impression of Ruben was that he doesn't mess around. He is organized, articulate, has hands on examples of everything that needs to be discussed and very competitive on pricing. Ruben will not flinch when asked to do something in addition to what was discussed up front; the guy has built entire houses; he could do any task, interior or exterior. In fact, when I suggested changing the roof line to fix problems with sagging fascia, he reassured me that all his experience was more than sufficient to do that task, a task which many contractors before him didn't want to touch. I signed the contract, and he started the work immediately. My house now looks 200% better with a new roof line in fascia and we haven't even started on the windows or stucco. Ruben has great attention to detail. Grinding the irregular texture down the way his team did making it virtually flat and filling in the hundreds of cracks up front will certainly provide the new texture with a more consistent substrate and thus a longer life span, not to mention saving on materials. It is my opinion that no other stucco company would have bothered to do either of those things and I probably would not have wondered why they're not. Ruben also is considerably conscientious. He always calls before he arrives, he calls on bad weather, he made sure that all holes in the house and on the roof we're covered with plastic before our last storm, and he has been very considerate about dust and moving our cars so they don't get dirty or damaged; he also brought in a porta potty so his crew wouldn't need to use ours. I am pleased to write this recommendation for Cordova Construction as they have provided outstanding window installation services to me. I moved into my new place three months ago and it's next to the road and the traffic noise affected my sleep quality, therefore I decided to replace two windows in my bedrooms. I got a lot of bids from Yelp but after some initial contacts, many businesses did not want to take my order because they only handle minimum 3 or 4 windows, or the cost was intimidatingly high. The business owner Ruben made an exception to me and took my order. What truly sets Cordova Construction apart is their commitment to customer satisfaction. After two phone calls, Ruben came in person to do the measurement. Besides my order is not very big, I had to get HOA approval for the replacement of the windows. Throughout the entire process, they were attentive to my questions and concerns, providing prompt and detailed responses to meet the HOA requirement. Also the original time frame was a month but the customized Milgard windows were available two weeks earlier than expected. Their team came in and did a good job to replace those two windows. I am incredibly pleased with the quality of their work and their efficiency. The new windows are very effective in reducing the noise levels and my sleep quality has been improved since then. I retrofit one milgard laminated window few weeks before. I live nearby a railway and a street, it is very noise all the time, my family couldn't sleep and rest well, after a night sleeping, my husband starts to feel dizzy, so we finally decide to change a window to have a try. We are quite worry it won't have some obvious effect, however, the result is much better than we thought. We almost couldn't hear the noise! Although there still has sound, but it won't annoy us. I was very impressed with Ruben! I needed help with a property I was selling that had a lot of cracks in the exterior stucco. On one part of the house the stucco completely fell apart and buckled. I found him on Yelp and asked how soon he could come out to see why this was happening and how it could be fixed. Ruben asked me a series of questions about the "why" I consulted him for the job before I could show the job to be done (a facia replacement). He declined to provide a quote for the job because he perceived that I asked a quote only to lower another contractor job (it was not the case) and/or because he thought the roof contractor should do this job. (The roof do not provide facia replacement service). I feel it's a good business practice to ask for 2 quotes for a job above $1000. I don't believe a contractor should accept to provide a quote only after checking they are the only one to quote. Sounds suspicious to me. A least Ruben could have declined the job after his screening questions on the the phone and avoid to waste my and his time with an additional visit. read more

Ruben came over and gave me a very reasonable estimate and said he could start right away and will finish in 3 days. 3/3/2011 I had already experienced Ruben's work with a french door that he installed so my wife and I went ahead with him to install our windows. The quote he gave was good but his previous work is what sold us. Ruben & his crew work fast and are clean. We had 22 windows installed or retrofitted and 5 new construction windows. The retrofitted windows were placed in a day and a half and the new construction took 2 -3 more days because of the stucco work which was very hard and time consuming work. The stucco needed to be hammered out and frames needed to be constructed to hold the new windows up. Then of course the new stucco was placed which was very impressive because it matched the same pattern of the current stucco. To finalize the job, caulking was placed outside of all the windows, then insulation and molding was placed on the interior. I forgot to mention that they even removed and reinstalled all of our blinds, which takes time as well. The crew was on time every day and even went over the hours that they agreed on per day. We are very happy with our windows and very impressed with the new windows. What pleased us the most is the great work that Ruben & his crew displayed in what seemed as a short amount of time. We hired Ruben to finish the stucco on several windows and a door we had replaced. He was fantastic. I could not be happier. He went out of his way to make sure the job was done right. We were very concerned about the new stucco texture matching the old and Ruben went and made sure he had his best texture guy come on site and finish the texture. It was a perfect match and it is impossible to tell the stucco was repaired. Rubien was also efficient and timely in finishing the job. He cleaned the site daily and took extra care with a copper finish we have to make sure it wasn't damaged. He made sure all the weep holes on the windows and door were not covered over incorrectly with stucco. Fantastic work and we plan on using him again as we have a little more stucco work to do.
