I've been noticing how dirty the studio at trolley square is. First, pretty much every time I take a class there, there are wads of hair or dirt pushed to the back walls and corners. I usually have to wipe down my space before I put my mat down because there is hair/dirt. Second, I think there is black mold and definitely rust all over the white beams and speakers. The vents on the ceiling are also covered in dust. Another thing is they used to clean your weights for you, which was helpful because after every class there is a huge line you have to wait in to clean your weights which can be annoying. Overall I think that if you're paying the hefty $140 a month you should be able to workout in a clean studio with clean air and not have to do your own cleaning. I love CorePower Yoga! In case you are wondering, yes they mostly do hot yoga at CorePower. I find regular yoga boring and prefer hot yoga but one time I was looking through their class options and it occurred to me that they don't offer much unheated options. The Trolley Square location is super convenient if you live downtown. I find that the classes here are a little bit less intense than at the Highland Drive location. I don't know if this is a new Corepower thing or just a Trolley Square thing, but they started doing this thing where during the final shavasana, the instructor walks around with a cold lavendar scented towel to put over your eyes. It's so simple but what a delightful way to end class after sweating it out! I've mostly been doing the Corepower2 classes so maybe it's specific to that class? Maybe it's because the classes are smaller here but they also clean your equipment for you after class, which always makes me feel extra pampered and a bit spoiled. I am a bit of a gym rat, I am definitely used to cleaning my own gear after I use it. They're just so nice at this location. It's nice to be pampered a bit after working so hard in class. I also find that it's pretty rare for the Trolley Square location to completely fill up, so it's way better for a last minute drop in than the Highland Drive location. Trolley Square is right off a Trax stop so you could easily work out and then go out after, or wander around Trolley Square for a quick snack or meal. I also love Corepower because they offer a realistic punch pass option. Mine expire in 9 months and I have never had issues trying to use up my punches. Other gyms give you a ridiculously short time frame like 3 months or less to use up your punches and I get bored easily so committing to one sport that consistently is pretty rare for me. I am a fitness junkie so I have all kinds of gym memberships, and committing to a monthly membership for one place is very unusual. It was great to do the first week trial and they rent you a yoga mat and towel for free. What a great way to try out a fitness activity with no gear! I can see that being great for people that want to work out but are intimidated by the gear. I have noticed that there is a huge range of abilites and body sizes in class, so no shame! Even if you don't start out fit, you will end up strong by the end of a few classes. I am always shocked how I feel so much stronger after class. I only do the sculpt classes which are challenging mostly because you're in a heated room with weights and cardio (with some light yoga and stretching). But I love the challenge, the emphasis on core strength, and I have been going here (all 3 locations) for 6 years now and am addicted. LOVE IT. I'd say the important thing to remember is that you can control the intensity and difficulty level of the workout based on your own needs regardless of what everyone else is doing or how difficult the instructor/class is. Modify, modify, modify. For example, I lift heavier than most others, but I move more slowly (and sooo carefully, laser-focused on my form at all times), avoid the high impact cardio so as to avoid injury, and I rarely do crunches because this is all tough on the spine. I probably modify at least 30% of the workouts, on average. So don't be afraid to make it your own while still getting the benefit of coaching and community. I'm a former CrossFITTER and long-distance runner with a lot of back and hip problems, and this is the safest workout that I can still do and get some degree of intensity. read more

Core Power is a great studio that offers a ton of flexibility and options for different yoga classes. Core Power 1 class is a great introductory course while still being an option for "light" days when the body is a little more fatigued. Core Power 2 is a much faster, Vanyassa, flow and more heat than CP1. For the locals, CP2 is very comparable to Salt Lake Power. In fact, Joey made the move which says a lot about the studio. I have come to love the Sculpt classes. They provide an intense workout with weights that combines cardio and a killer ab workout. To give you some perspective, the typically new sculptor comes in and has a tendency to grab the heavier weights. They often find themselves barely making it through the first class and typically dropping to no weights half way through the class. Realizations sets in during class 2 when they grab more suitable weights. However the ego is still in check as they look to the left and right and find someone in their 40s or 50s who is putting their effort to shame. Ton of strong women in the class, so it wouldn't surprise me that the new/er boys are getting "out-worked" by the ladies. Overall the teachers do a great job. I definitely have my favorite, but it's up to you to find your own. I am rather confident she knows...developing a great sound track and rhythm for a strong workout. The class opens you up to new muscle groups, and she knows how to develop a program that ensures your knees and small twitch muscles are ready for everything from running to skiing. Nickwas our instructor when my longtime friend Kylie Fitch took me in to catch a class and sign up for a free week. Nick has very intuitive instruction and the community in that C2 session were so focused I felt I leveled up my yoga practice just by being around them. That class has spiraled into taking the 20 class challenge -my 20th class was Thursday!- and snagging some shifts at core power for a free membership! Was shoved by the cleaning lady over two weeks ago I informed The manager Karen who apparently manages all three locations and two weeks later after attending classes every day I asked that same lady who shoved me for a towel and apparently she got offended that I still had a membership there and lied to the manager and said that I threatened her. Hot yoga has helped change my mind and body in ways I didn't know it would. The state of euphoria after every class is like nothing I've ever felt before. I work out 4 to 5 times a week and this has drastically improved my mobility at the gym and in life. The feeling I get in a group setting of setting your intention for the day or week is something I cherish about CPY. Definitely worth trying! read more

A yoga teacher myself, I've always turned my nose up at Corepower yoga. The idea of a crowded room full of sweaty bodies, with an instructor who doesn't pay any particular attention to adjustments or modifications seems to be the equation for illness and injury. Having said that, and being someone who knows my own body, my history with injuries, and how to modify for myself, I now love attending Corepower to get a good sweat on. Something about the 90-degree plus heat and humidity, with the tunes pumping, allows me to escape my own thoughts for 60-minutes and just flow. I leave class feeling detoxed and relaxed. ...and I was wrong to generalize the teachers. There are some, like Shannon and Lisa, who have tremendous knowledge for modifying poses and avoiding injury. Still, the majority do not, and I cringe at the thought of the dozens of students who most likely over exert their joints and ligaments and will be suffering for it dearly in the long run. My advice to go to a boutique studio first and taking an "Intro to Yoga" class to nail down basic poses and learn about alignment to avoid injury. Then hop into a CP1 to practice those basic poses under the heated and humid conditions of Corepower, until you're feeling confident enough in your body to move into a CP2 or Sculpt class for something more challenging. read more

I have been to all of the CorePower locations in Salt Lake and I think I've decided this is my favorite. It is the smallest, but that is part of the beauty of it. Some of the other locations, in particular, Highland, get very crowded. There have been times there when I've arrived a couple minutes before class and the room is already so packed I end up with my mat on an edge right against the wall, crammed too close to my neighbor. I've never had that problem here. The classes have enough people they don't feel empty, but I'm not overwhelmed by crowds, and I don't have to worry about arriving 10 minutes early to get a spot. The other beauty of this location is the demographics. This one feels much more like a community studio with a variety of ages and types of people. You see all kinds of levels and weights and genders. Unfortunately, at some of the other studios, I feel like it is packed with perfect blonde suburban moms and their perfect blonde daughters who are all perfect at yoga. It can be intimidating and overwhelming in class when they are all on the front row doing handstands when some of us are dripping in sweat barely able to hold downward dog. For whatever reason, the Trolley Square location just feels different. It feels a lot more welcoming and beginner friendly. Of course, I'm sure it varies by day and teacher. I have had good experiences at all the studios, but this is probably the one I would recommend to anyone just getting started with yoga. Once you try a normal class, definitely give the Yoga Sculpt classes a try. They are a great workout and a fun variation. If you've never been before, they give you your first week free. On your first visit they will give you a towel and mat for free, but after that they charge for it. If you want to use a locker, you need to bring your own lock. It's quite hot and can be overwhelmingly so at times. I never sweat more than I do in these classes. I have sweat in places I didn't even know I could sweat. I usually try to get a spot by the door because sometimes the teacher will open and close it, fanning fresh air in. I recommend bringing water and wearing leggings. The times I've worn shorts thinking it's a good decision because it's so hot, I regret it as my hands slip and slide every time I have to touch my legs. The sweating is intense, but feels very good for some reason. They always give you a cold towel at the end of class and nothing has ever felt so good in your whole life. Good luck! Enjoy! read more

I am baffled at all the negative reviews on here. As a well known national chain, you should be semi aware of what kind of workout class you're getting yourself into before you show up on your mat. No, this is not your grandma's hippie-dippie yoga class where all levels will feel completely comfortable with the practice, and you'll definitely want to have a few classes your belt in addition to a base knowledge of yoga postures and how to modify to your own needs, before hopping into a C2 or sculpt class. That being said, the range of classes and teachers at this Corepower has been some of the best I have experienced. I've previously practiced at Corepower studios in Chicago, Boston and Atlanta- not only is it way more reasonable for a membership or class pack in the Salt Lake Area, but I have found that the teachers put together a really wide range of postures and flow sequences, more so than other locations, so each class you get the opportunity to try something new. I've been to about 7 classes in this location already and come out of each one feeling awesome. The Candlelight classes are really great and I love that they offer some with live guitar. Only two reasons it gets four stars not five: 1) the price is still a little high for my liking, but considering how crowded most of the classes are I guess the demand is there for it 2) many of the teachers do not make adjustments, which is something I love to have in my practice (especially at this price point). TLDR; if you're looking for a class that is a challenging workout first, and then meditative/yoga second, Corepower is the place for you. Protip: get there early to avoid the inevitable awkward shuffle of trying to fit your mat into a crowded class. read more

The instructors are very friendly, talented and knowledgable. I love attending the CP2 classes. The availability of different classes each day of the week and different times works well with various schedules. The facility is clean and new. However, the floor in the studio is already staring to warp and needs to be fixed. The classes here are almost always busy. Sometimes it's hard to find space in the studio. The locker rooms at this location are extremely small and inconvenient. I wish the management would be more strict on punctuality. There always seems to be a late-comer walking into class after it has already started. People seem to leave in the middle of class as well which can be very distracting as well. read more

Clean and nicely appointed studio. Shower room a bit small. But offering very nice soaps and shampoos. This was my first time for core power yoga class. Although I've been practicing Bikram and heated Vinyasa flow for many years. Core power is basically vinyasa flow with some killer abs thrown in. I enjoyed it very much. Got to the studio at 4:35 for a 4:30 sculpt class. Bummer that the doors were locked ;( I get wanting to start on time. I also understand keeping us safe if you have no one available to be out front. But as a new black tag pass holder I find it discouraging that I can't come in a little late at times. Despite striving for punctuality sometimes it just doesn't work out. A 15 " grace period would be nice. Even a notice when one signs the membership if that is their policy would be courteous. read more

This is my home yoga studio and is by far my favorite of the Salt Lake CPY trio! Located at Trolley Square, this studio is very central and parking has never been an issue for me. Although Corepower is a corporate chain, coming to the Trolley Square location feels very local. The studio itself is fairly small but there are multiple lockers and cubbies for storage. The studio space is typically very clean and you have all your bathroom essentials including hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, tampons, deodorant, hair ties, moisturizer, you name it! The folks here are truly genuine and are always willing to work with you if you've experienced an injury or are working on a particular pose. I love taking classes with Judd. His C2 and restore classes will heal your soul. Yoga can often be intimidating for newcomers but Corepower is very welcoming to beginners. I highly recommend joining the Corepower community for a free week of you haven't done so already! It'll change you! read more

I don't know what to call this place, but it isn't yoga. It's kind of like a cross-fit class with some yoga poses mixed in. The words "pump it up" and "as fast as you can" should never be heard in a yoga class. Nor should club dance remixes. I've tried three different types of classes here during my free week, and all of them were about speed and doing as many reps as possible. There was almost no focus on breath and flow except the shavasana at the very end of one class. (Doing as many pushups as fast as you can from plank while a Beyonce remix plays doesn't count as vinyasa. Sorry.) I'm sure there are some people who'll enjoy this as a fitness routine. Just don't expect any of the mental and spiritual clarity or peace one finds in yoga. read more

I was visiting from out of town when I noticed the signage for Core Power Yoga as my friend and I drove past an outdoor mall. Having attended in other cities and enjoyed it, I suggested my friend check it out and we planned to attend a class the next day as she had never been. The studio is VERY difficult to find and while we spent about 10 minutes walking throughout the mall to find it, we came across three more signs--none of which indicated where the studio was located. We also came across three more "yogis" who were also lost. When we finally located the studio, it was 9:32am (class began at 9:30am) and the doors were locked. The five of us could see class going on but it seemed as if the instructor was the only staff member there. I also tried calling around 9:20am for assistance, but received a recording from what seemed to be a manager's cell phone. Probably a great facility with great instructors and classes, very disappointed we (all five of us) were not able to participate. read more

I LOVE Corepower, it is one of my favorite work outs. I don't know any other avenue to let the Utah studios have a little feedback however. Cheri is not my favorite. I know that she is trying, but I would love if someone helped her out in her sculpt class. I have taken one, and felt like I needed a work out after. It doesn't flow, she stops the music a lot to discuss the next move, and I don't think thats necessary except I feel like she is just making up exercises, and there's little to no yoga. Its hard to follow, and I know she is in training, but I feel like she is not confident in what she is doing, and that makes the rest of us not love it too. She teaches a lot and I want to love it, so help a girl out! read more
