It wasn't a super demanding class, most of the poses were seated and laying down although we did do some standing poses towards the end of class. I brought my own towel and a towel for my mat as well. I don't know if they provide towels, but if they do they weren't visibly displayed. Excited to come back here!

By the time everyone settled onto their mats, Anna asked: "Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?" One yogi answered without hesitation. "Release." The whole room smiled. Same. One collective Om. A few Sun Salutations. Then we were off. The Guide: Anna Murray * Express 45 Anna guided us through a few Sun Salutations before gradually stepping back and letting us move through several on our own. There was no stopping. One posture became the next. One breath became the next. Before I knew it... we were halfway through. Once the body was warm, the invitations began. Side Angle. Half Bind. Full Bind. Bird of Paradise. You could stay exactly where you were... or keep opening. The music carried everything forward. Beach House. Rhye. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Then, almost unfairly... it was time to come down. Forty-five minutes. Gone. At the end of class, Anna invited us to bask in our wholeness, our worthiness, the steadiness of our being, and then encouraged us to carry that presence into the rest of our day. The Tribe After class, I lingered. Showered. Wandered back to the lobby. Started talking. Dance came up. Anna had danced with the Salt Lake City Ballet. Another yogi studied modern dance. Of course. That explained a few things. Yoga keeps introducing me to fascinating people. Different paths. Same practice. Same willingness to open. Space & Place This studio deserves its own section. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Wasatch Mountains. Living artwork. During class, the mountains never leave your peripheral vision. They're a part of the practice. My favorite yoga room. By far. The Takeaway Halfway through class, I caught myself thinking: "I don't want this to end." Open. Present. Moving. Apparently...that's what release feels like. Field Note: We don't release to let go. The Vibe: Returning…read more Sometimes you return to a place... and realize you aren't returning at all. You're meeting the version of yourself that first learned how to breathe. Ritual has classes almost every hour. So I did what Ritual encourages: Show up. Carina welcomed me like an old friend. She opened my account. "You've practiced with us before." Suddenly... Chicago. The pandemic. Hundreds of classes. The place where breath first became movement. A home when the world didn't feel like one. I walked into class with gratitude. The Guide: Carina Cannon * Ritual Hot Yoga The room was exactly as I remembered. Warm. Dark. Candlelit. Every Ritual class begins the same way. A few quiet moments. A meditation. I chose Supported Fish Pose. A scented oil neck & shoulder massage. Then Carina offered our intention: Breathe in clarity. Breathe out self-doubt. She returned to those words throughout class. Then came the flow. If you've never practiced at Ritual, their sequencing is one of my favorite teaching systems. Core work first. Then a flow learned slowly. One side. Then the other. A little faster. Then both sides again... until you're moving almost entirely from memory while another Ritual yogi quietly keeps the rhythm from the front of the room. Everything happens to the beat of the music. Even the cueing. Breath in... cue. Breath out... cue. Over time, you learn one of yoga's greatest lessons: Breath leads. Movement follows. Many postures are taught in Levels 1 through 4. Each level builds on the last. Standing Head-to-Knee. Find your foundation. Lift. Extend. Fold. Bonus (maybe)... pistol squat. Because the room is so dark... You stop looking. Field Note: The quieter your senses become, the easier it is to hear yourself. Throughout class, Carina returned us to the idea of samadhi: returning, one breath at a time. The Tribe Looking around the room, I remembered. Showing up. Breathing together. Moving together. Space & Place It's one of the darkest studios I've practiced in. A place to listen to yourself. Everything else has already been thought of. Mat. Towels. Cold eucalyptus towel for savasana. All you have to do... Is show up. The Takeaway Years ago... I thought I was just exercising. Ritual was teaching me a way of being. I didn't know it then... but it was laying the foundation for everything that came after. Some places become chapters. Others become part of who you are. The staff went out of their way to make me feel at home, and comfortable as a "second time" beginner. My first class was the "yin" with Carina, which included sound bowls at the end... a very moving experience. I've been going regularly since December and already feel a difference in my body. Unlike the older Bikram classes with the same 26 poses in sequence each time (and I did get value from that at the time), each Ritual instructor puts their own imprint on the class, which adds freshness to each one, while preserving the Ritual signature experience. I was extremely nervous as an older student returning to yoga after a long layoff, but the instructors could not have been more encouraging, inclusive and supportive. There's something here for everyone, regardless of level. I can't recommend it highly enough. Try it! Or... buy a ten-day pass for someone you love.

Amanda was very friendly, greeting everyone as they arrived. Anyone who didn't register online, was asked to fill out the waiver on the iPad. Since I registered earlier I only needed to check myself in. They have a couple areas with black storage containers to place your belonging. They lock the doors while yoga is in session so no one can come in, but you can leave if needed. It was nice that she told us to pick up a couple blocks and strap as you walked into the class. It was a 60 minute FREE mindpose SLOW class in a heated room. It filled up quickly and started promptly at 9 am. The music was a little loud at first, but someone asked her to turn it down so we could hear her since the room was full. Loved the class; however, there was one set that by the third pass at the moves it was way to fast for me to follow since it's been years doing yoga. I wasn't able to follow, except the first two and end poses. Other than that, I was able to hold the majority of the poses and I loved the leg stretches towards the end. I'm hoping to go to this one a week to help with my running and mountain biking. The class ended with a nice cool towel with a slight lemon scent that was placed on your forehead or your shoulder.

Thus regular heated classes have become dangerous for me and my baby, not to mention my husband and I are now incredibly tight facing a variety of medical bills. The studio managers have informed me that I am not able to cancel my membership without a cancellation fee and have been surprisingly & incredibly rude to me regarding this situation-- going so far as to unnecessarily threaten collections. I wasn't aware I signed up for a year contract as I never even signed anything-- this makes me nervous of how the business is run here and how many others are locked into a contract unknowingly? Overall, very disappointed with how unprofessional and insensitive I've been treated. I will not be returning once my health does.

Then another yogi. Then, as I stepped out of my car, a cyclist pointed toward the building. "That's the yoga studio I was telling you about." Three recommendations... before I even walked in. I smiled. This was going to be good. It was. Don greeted me with a beautiful smile. He showed me around. Explained the studio. Pointed me toward everything I needed. Then our conversation wandered somewhere bigger than yoga. How this practice has helped shape who we are. Reflecting... That wasn't just a conversation before class. It was the class. The Guide: Don Anderson * Hot Power Flow Before we moved, Don asked a simple question: "Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?" The room answered. Neck. Shoulders. Hips. We began standing at the top of our mats. Just breathing. The music was soft. Subtle Indian influences. I caught a snippet honoring Ganesh. Perfect. Here's to clear paths ahead. In Cat-Cow, Don invited us to move intuitively. If something felt sticky... breathe into it If something felt wonderful... stay with that too. Sun Salutations. Then... slow, thoughtful sections. A moving meditation. Halfway through, Don made us laugh. He used to have everyone applaud. Then he admitted... he got tired of the applause. I get it. Every practice evolves. We paused in Child's Pose. Perfect timing. My first assist. Later, in Savasana... A chilled towel. Then a second assist. Gentle shoulders. Gentle head. An Ajna (third-eye) touch. My favorite. Three collective Oms. Practice complete. The Tribe Everyone seemed completely at ease. So was I. With Don. With the students. And... with myself. After class, I thanked the yogi beside me. We'd been learning from one another all morning. Without saying a word. The Space & Place The Lobby: Simple. Clean. Thoughtfully curated. Mats, towels, essentials, and recovery drinks. Everything you need. The Yoga Room: Light wood floors. High ceilings. Soft pendant lighting. One mirrored wall. Plenty of open space. Down the Hall: Filtered water. (Plus my favorite sign: "Fast Flow = Splash Risk!" ) Beautiful shower. Beautiful plants. Artwork. Chilled towels in Savasana. The Takeaway I understand why everyone recommends Centered City Yoga. It's one of the best entry points into flow yoga. Especially heated flow. If you don't know Sanskrit... Don teaches in plain English. If a transition is unfamiliar... he demonstrates it. Beginners have time to learn. Experienced yogis have room to explore. We all practice together. Field Note: A great teacher creates enough space for everyone to practice together...in their own way. Each session had a different theme, but all were relaxing and left me feeling grounded, refreshed, and almost euphoric from the salt in the air. The space is cute and comfortable with chairs you can sit or lay back in. The instructor guided the first half; and then, the second half we were allowed space to just be with our thoughts and emotions. Staff at check-in were friendly and helpful. There's plenty of parking in the lot. Definitely a nice place to reset, so it'll be part of my frequent routine.

The staff here are all well educated and trained to provide the best services possible and are super kind, to boot!
