We have been to Coriander several times for dinner, and several times for the luncheon buffet. It has always been excellent, really the best Indian restaurant in the Boston area. (We have another favorite in Baltimore :) Lunchtime is crowded on school early dismissal days. The luncheon buffet has quite a variety, and it changes from day to day, and is a wonderful bargain at around $10. Our favorites include saag paneer, and the dosas. taking a stroll in the neighborhood looking for dinner. heard about this place a long time; finally got to try it. walked in and were seated promptly. the place was a little too quiet with the unused buffet setup sitting on the side; looked a little deserted but ok. menu was a little overwhelming w/lots of text; could be simplified a bit. server was polite and helpful: got our food order in quickly, recommended good level of spiciness, refilled water w/a smile. food didn't look like anything special, but the flavors were all there. the colorful dipping sauces were a great visual plus! pricing, totally affordable with many entress between the $10-15 range. neither of us could finish the food; i found mine was still very tasty on the day after! hub was a little disappointed that they didn't pack his cleaned out bone (he wanted to save the marrow) -- i told him to specifically instruct the waiter but he didn't ask, so he didn't receive. don't know about the buffet experience, but dinner was a good one. read more

NIRVANA IN THE 'BURBS!! My first long-intended, but totally spontaneous visit to this local Himalayan treasure, Coriander, was a delicious surprise! I found this delightful Indian-Nepalese cafe to appear clean, cool-ish on an unseasonably hot spring afternoon, busy but achieving all within a calm, atmosphere. The gracious atmosphere of the dozen-tabled (deuces & 4-tops all of which look combinable) lunch-set-up restaurant seems inviting of quiet chat. WHUUUTTT?!! Conversations actually audible to one's table mates, with coolness reinforced by mint green table LINENS, china white serving ware ,and (incongruously?!?) piped Western classical piano music surrounding all. NIRVANA!! My lunch-time experience featured a prompt welcome and seating by two neatly uniformed (in darker green shirts) servers, friendly chef waving from the kitchen pass-through, all amid traditional decor paying homage to the gods and goddesses of Hindu culture. Overwhelmed by the printed menu leaves, I chose to gain an overview of quality trying the hot lunch buffet. I have sampled Indian buffets in a variety of cities in North America. Coriander's beats the best Toronto and others have had to offer in freshness, temperature, variety and clarity of ingredients on carefully labelled items! In my opinion, Coriander would be a VERY good place to start if you are new to the delights of Nepalese-Indian Far East cuisine! Served primarily from impressively-sized copper hot-caldron arrays, the range of vegetarian, chicken or shrimp entrees was excellent. Flavors were distinct, tandoori chicken WAS smoky-flavored from a grill-like process. Basmati rice was long-grained, hot, fragrant and plentiful! Chicken chunks in the masala were so large and numerous, I had trouble getting just some sauce in the serving spoon! Couldn't possibly begin to try the mulligatawny soup, a lentil dhal, or any of the super cool dessert items offered from an icy-salad-type-bar!! Not even room enough for their storied chai!! Customary up and down journeys in buffet-style aside, I LOVED being kindly served fresh garlic nan (bread,) hot from an oven!! I asked for mango chutney which was listed on the menu as an additional charge, but I was throwing caution to the WINDS, apparently!!! WOO-HAAAAH!! I promptly received a nice bowl with spoon of heavenly, tangy chutney but NO CHARGE was added to my extremely, ridiculously tiny BILL....not even after I pointed the omission out to a server! I ESPECIALLY LOVED being able to order the UNSWEETENED yogurt drink to which I am HOPELESSLY addicted from time spent with Turkish loved ones in and out of Turkey! I'm sure I'll try their Mango Yogurt drink some sweltering summer afternoon, though!! Closed between 3:00-5:PM, worth waiting for as the temptations beyond 5:PM, for a la carte dinner items are the stuff of foodie dreams!! The menu is as exotic as it is extensive! Let's get straight to the point: This place is good! I came on a rainy night with friends who love the mix-up between Southern Indian and Nepalese food. Since they only eat fish and veggies, this place was perfect for them. As for me, while I was bit of a bore (I had Chicken Tikka Masala...which is more of an Americanized dish than anything else) my kind and generous friends shared their dishes with me. One word about this place: Yum! Seems you can't go wrong with either fish, chicken or veggie selections. I understand too that the lunch buffet is out of sight! No, I don't mean it's hidden (Yes, I'm dating myself) but fantastic. It looks like it could be as what remained of the set-up looked substantial. Let me begin by saying that we were recommended to Coriander by a colleague. Both my husband and I just moved to Norwood recently, so we couldn't wait to find a new Indian restaurant nearby. Arrived on a Thursday night, we waited half hour to get seated, another 20 minutes to place our order, and our appetizer finally arrived an hour after we arrived at the restaurant. We ordered Vegetable Momo, and it was okay. Our entrees took another half hour (right after my husband complained to the staff, who explained they were having a busy night). We had Lamb Uttapam, Chicken Tikka Masala, and a side order of Aloo Gobhi: Pieces of minced lamb was sprinkled over two pancakes, chicken chunks in the Chicken Tikka lacked the grilled flavor and was under seasoned, and the Aloo Gobhi had no flavor whatsoever, not to mention the occasional surprise bitterness from chewing on some unknown spice. Our dining experience was less than satisfactory. It was a disappointment as we really wanted to find a new favorite restaurant. We do not plan on returning to Coriander. read more

We found this place after hearing about it on a local food group on Facebook. It's a bit of a drive, but absolutely worth it! It's become a favorite spot for take out. Their chicken garlic soup has become one of my favorite things to eat in the cold weather. Savory, garlicky, a little spicy. Get a side of rice and add some to the soup...pure deliciousness and comfort food. We've tried lots of different items and the household favorites are definitely the aloo tiki, chicken pakora, chicken korma, momos and the paratha bread. Everthing is always super fresh. Recently tried this place and we sat at a small table because the other tables were reserved. Went back again. We tried to a reserve a table and they said they don't take reservation, even though on their website it literally says call to make a reservation. The told us to call 15 minutes before to reserve. We did as instructed and the man said okay table outside for 3. We show up and they just sat a party of 10, who took all of the tables and seats available. I ask the man and he says no there is no reservation for you, we don't take reservations. I told him they had reservations the last time we came and that there were 3 place settings outside, which I assume were for us prior to this party walking up. Long story short, they did not honor our reservation, they were rude, and they did not try to accommodate us AT ALL. The food is good but the customer service is beyond atrocious and they truly do not care about you. read more

I visited this establishment a few time a few years back and never returned since. I tried their take-out and had the meat samosas and lamb vindaloo. The food was very good and getting complimentary rice and a papadum was a nice surprise compared to Asian restaurants that charge for rice. I typically like to support local businesses and food generally has been tasty the few times I've been here, however I was very disappointed when this place catered a party for me and provided rice with cashews in it despite specific discussions with owner of the necessity of nut free meal due to nut allergy among my guests. Went for Saturday lunch Buffet. Wish I could say good things about this place, but I can not. The high reviews are suspect, and VERY misleading. We didn't like the Bhel (was Stale), lamb curry was just meat pieces in red water, chicken tikka masala was subpar. The decor was not well thought off, just hodgepodge of different random decoration. Overall, we came here purely based on reviews and were disappointed. I always order Lamb Shank and Vegetable Samosa for takeout from this restaurant, but I was given a burnt lamb shank and an oily Vegetable Samosa for the past few days. Inside the Vegetable Samosa, the potatoes were really oily, making them unable to eat. I have been ordering Vegetable samosas for quite a while, and they used to taste amazing. Still, for the past few orders, my Samosas have been really oily and unable to eat, and because of this, I have stopped ordering Samosas from this restaurant. read more

Just came back from having lunch at this little gem in Sharon! Wow! It was absolutely delicious! We got there right when the buffet was just put out. Everything was absolutely fresh and hot. They served you some fresh garlic bread. I don't have Indian Food as much as I would like. So I don't know the names of too many dishes. BUT..every single dish that was in the buffet was absolutely delicious. I only passed on one. It was the goat curry...I just couldn't do it. My husband, however, did! He loved it! The atmosphere was wonderful and the bathrooms were just cleaned and absolutely spotless. Our waters were filled constantly through out the meal. I definitely will be going back here without a doubt. Lunch buffet is usually when I visit this establishment. Located in Sharon center, Coriander is a smaller restaurant. I recently noticed they got new chairs to replace their old ones. The lunch buffet is what I usually get, and some of the dishes rotate out, but usually have had chicken tikka masala, sag peneer, veggie pakora, chicken tandoori, and as always rice. They serve you some naan for the table, either plain or garlic. They have different dishes at the beginning, that can range from orange chicken (chinese?) to a broccoli dish. I find the food delicious, some of it being a little bit spicy, but on the most part not at all. Service is good, as the waiter fills up the water quickly. I have seen it busier where the service is slow, but not complaint worthy. I love the sag paneer, and chicken tikka masala, and have recently tried some sort of eggplant dish that was good as well. I may not know finer Indian food, but this place is a frequent. I don't know of too many Indian restaurants in the area. read more

Poor service. Went for buffet today and had to come back munching on few veggies. After telling them 3 times, got half naan and no body came after that. Even for water I had to call them 4 times. They were constantly out of samosas, pakodas which were part of the buffet. Palak paneer was only for name but it was just palak without any paneer. I live in Canton and I am overjoyed there is finally an Indian restaurant in the area! I hope it never closes so please go, it does not disappoint! The first time I went here it was late and I was getting take out. I walk in and I felt at home, the chefs are singing in Hindi as they clean ans the hostess was very warm and inviting. They were of course out of a few things, luckily nothing I wanted. The hostess was very sweet and friendly and showed me which things I could have. I ordered chicken korma (amazing) and waited. I was starving, she came over and asked me if I was hungry and said there was one last naan. I said yes and she brought it over. It was delicious! And free! then when I went to pay after I recieved everything I tried to tip her. She said very nicely that it was unnecessary. I see her all the time, maybe she is one of the owners. In any case I was impressed. I work in service too. I went home and the korma was impressive as well. Perfectly creamy but not overly so, nicely seasoned and good big chunks of tender chicken. I've since had a few other things there. Try the coconut soup, mango lassi, chicken vindaloo, tandoori. Really everything here is good. They have a lunch buffet and it's $8.95 during the week! You can't beat that! On the weekends it's more, $12.95 but still for the quality is amazing! I'm giving this 4 stars for the area, if it were in Boston I'd give it 3. Also I will never give an Indian/Pakistani/Desi restaurant anything higher than a 4 unless they can make food equal to or better than my Pakistani father. This Indian place has a lot going for it! It is located in Sharon center, near the main intersection of town. It is in the former site of an upscale French restaurant. The interior and decor are nice, with just enough Indian accents to reminder you that this is now a different restaurant. There was Indian music playing at a volume that provided good background noise but was not obnoxious. The windows look out onto the square and provide a good view and plenty of light for the dinning room. There was outdoor seating, which was not in use by anyone at the time I was there but has great potential and would be great if it was an option. They serve a lunch buffet for 8.95 and a weekend brunch for 10.95. The buffet was nicely laid out and easy to get to. There were good Samosas, filled with potato and spices, nicely fried and not greasy. There were some potato fritters which were crunchy and nice. Vegetable Curry, a Spinach dish possibly panner? 2 types of Chicken Curry one spicier than the other. The chicken in the Curry was excellent, big chucks of white meat in the sauce, excellent. Tandoori chicken, a Lentil/Vegetable soup, various chutneys. 2 different salads, 1 seemed to have some cold curried vegetables in it, the other the staple garden type salad. They had a few desserts as well such as a spicy carrot dessert. They also had Chai in a carafe which you could server yourself to. No beer or wine on the menu. Oh and the Naan was brought out, hot, garlicky, and fresh. Service was good, attentive but not intrusive at all. They nailed it on the critical,' I have the check, now please come back for the payment so I can get back to work" timing they came right back and took the payment, good job! There were only a few tables occupied at lunch on a Thursday which made it a little awkward, but that quickly faded as the quality of the meal started to be realized. Its not really near any industrial parks/business areas unfortunatly or I think the lunch crowd might be booming. This was a good experience and I would definetly go back. The food was good quality and the choices were basic enough for any newbies or those hesitant to try Indian food would not be intimidated. The only adjustment needed would be a little more variety, maybe a lamb/goat dish or seafood dish. Setting of the place was great, staff was pleasant. We love the food here, but definitely try going for the lunch buffet or come with a coupon . It can get pricey, but we really love the flavors and the naan is always delicious. Their dine in service can be slower sometimes, but it's not a rushed atmosphere. Everyone is very pleasant and people tend to come here to relax and enjoy a slow paced meal. May not be best for toddlers who are on the go. We have tried many different items here and our go to meals are the chicken tikka Masala, vindaloo extra spicy, veggie pakora and we get the mixed naan basket to splurge. It's also one of the closest Indian restaurants we have without going all the way up route 1 in Norwood. We will continue to return.
