For some reason the thought to go to Holiday Bar does not come up often when we decide where to eat. Every time we go there, I wonder, "why not". I've never had anything here but excellent food and service. I've grown addicted to their French Dip sandwich which is about as good as I've had anywhere. The bread is substantial enough to hold the copious amounts of au jus I dip it in without falling apart. Yet, it is not too heavy to overshadow the meat. I order this just about every time I go here. This time however, they had Korean fried chicken tacos as a special. My wife made me order it because she knows if I didn't, I'd be complaining all the way home. This item should become a regular. Wonderfully flavored chicken with Korean sauces and spices and vegetables in a usual taco set up, My wife became enamored with the Mediterranean salad which she says is the closest thing she's been able to find that resembles what she craves from Greece and Italy. She added chicken which was a generous portion so I sampled some and it was excellent. While waiting for lunch to arrive, I looked at the drink menu, specifically bourbons. Holiday has a impressive list and I was surprised to find even the hard to get, allocated bourbons were in stock and "reasonably" priced. We received the wrong food due to miscommunication with the server. When we asked if it was what we ordered, the server apologized and asked if we were fine with keeping it anyway (which made us feel uncomfortable to begin with). When we said no, the manager came out and told us that if we didn't want to eat it or pay for it, the server would have to. He continues to not know what he's talking about, but also not know who has what. Post birthday dinner fun, some friends met me and treated me to some drinks at this lovely little haunt, with one of the best patios around for just weekend drinking and having a good time with friends. We only hung out and drank so I can't speak much on their food either way, but they do this cool unique thing where they somehow smoothly cut off the top of any can they serve and I don't know how they do it... but it's pretty cool in my opinion, just know you gotta get in before 9 if you don't want a cover charge. read more

Parking was the first thing that was slightly annoying, but given the area, it was no big deal! There's a tiny triangle shaped lot across the street, but it is very small. We ended up parking on the street just one block down! It was busy when we got in so there weren't many seats to choose from, but I did like the variety of bar seating, tables, booths, and high tops. There was live music as well! In the bathroom there was a schedule, so they have live music often. The service was a bit slow, but given that it was busy it made sense. The menu was quite large so there's definitely something for everyone! They had a good selection of canned drinks as well! read more

I saw a friend's review of The Holiday Bar recently and added it to my Grand Rapids collection since I'd never visited. I was in the area for an event and decided to stop in for dinner at the bar. The space is pretty large with a huge horseshoe bar. It has a bit of a dive bar atmosphere but not too dingy. It was a Thursday evening and they had a lovely musician playing and singing some great songs. She was incredible! It seems like they have live music a few nights a week. I appreciated that it wasn't super loud. They have a great happy hour - Monday through Friday, 3:30-6:30pm with $5 food options like deviled eggs, cheese quesadilla, small nachos, chips and dip, and sliders. Plus great drink specials! $2.50 domestic bottles and other choices for $4.50. Really awesome deals that I would for sure come back for. Our bartender was super sweet and helpful with recommendations - she said the French dip is the best in the city, so I was sold. Nate went with the naan bread club. Both came with fries but you can sub other sides for an up charge. The menu is large and has lots of your typical bar foods but also some unique options like prime rib, escargot, an Irish quesadilla, and Polish eggrolls. The service we received was timely and attentive, with waters refilled multiple times and people checking in on us. It was super easy and quick to get our check. It wasn't too busy but I really appreciated the great, welcoming service. The food came out pretty quickly and was presented nicely and everything was hot and fresh. The fries were the best kind - beer battered and the perfect crisp. I don't eat a lot of French dips but I loved theirs. The bread was soft but held up to the au jus dip. It was meaty, cheesy, and delicious. I would absolutely get this again. I had a couple bites of the naan club, which was also really good. I'm so glad I finally got to check out The Holiday bar and will definitely be back. They have a large outdoor space that I'd love to enjoy in warmer weather. They do have a parking lot across the street but it was a little tight and awkwardly arranged. There's plenty of street parking available nearby too. read more

The Holiday Bar hasn't disappointed!! We have been here now a couple times, once in the summer which was great. The deck is amazing. We were just here to grab lunch in between Christmas shopping on Alpine and again the service and food was amazing. Brianna was very attentive and the food came out quick and very good. We eat out frequently and burgers are usually top on my list. The BYOB burger I constructed was definitely top 3 i have had! The cook used the blackened seasoning typically used on the chicken for me and the toppings were fresh and on point. Drinks were well priced and strong. Nothing to complain about. You know what, I really like the Holiday Bar and wish it was closer to me. They have a great happy hour and their food is top notch for being "bar food". If you come during the day, you get a dive bar feel but can also enjoy their patio if you're not into that. If you come at night on the weekend, you can dance your heart out or play their golf simulator game while listening to awesome tunes. They also have other events weekly. I am a sucker for the holiday bar! We recently went for the Grand Taco competition, and had their mojo chicken tacos, which were BOMB Of course, we also had to get their deviled eggs while we were there! This weeks eggs were crab rangoon flavored, and they were decadent, as always! The staff at Holiday always kill it. Our waitress was SO kind to help us get some drink orders and appetizer orders in while it was still happy hour! She knew what was up, and for that, we are forever grateful On afternoons/weekdays, it's a great place to sit down and eat a chill dinner and have a few drinks. However, on weekends and evenings, it's a party! It seems like they have something every night, from karaoke to DJs. (I've definitely embarrassed myself on their dance floor before) And, now that's it's FINALLY nice, they have a huge patio with a bar outside! Tis the season to drink in the sunshine! read more

I ordered a flat bread...description on menu sounded great but it turned out to be some chicken and cheese on a round pita bread. Very small, not worth $14. My drink was $9 and mostly ice. Upscale prices but food and drinks just okay. Don't get me started on the service. Waitress was so rude the manager had to come over and apologize. The place was packed though, so something is appealing. Maybe because it's a large place and can accommodate large groups...there were several large groups there. read more

Have always wanted to try this place and finally did! What a delight! First the minuses. My Diet Coke was flat, but our server cheerfully replaced it from the other soda gun. Better, but could use more carbonation. Two of the tables by the window looked to be original (i.e., very old). They looked dirty and were sticky. I had to literally pry my plate off of the surface to move it. It looked like the other tables in the bar were newer and/or cleaned well. I wanted to sit by the window, so l guess l could have moved. Lastly, l went to their website twice yesterday to check out the menu. I clicked menu, but nothing happened. Same thing happened when my friend tried too. Not all the plusses! Our server was very sweet and nice! My friend and l got the salad special, Fiesta Salad with grilled, blackened chicken. It was very fresh, well blackened & grilled and delicious! Great variety on the menu, for as old as the bar was, l was thinking there'd be a lot of fried, basket choices. So glad l was wrong! The front part of the bar had a very large horseshoe bar. You could tell the owner wanted to preserve the original ambience of the almost 120 year old bar, but had updated it as well. Bathrooms looked clean and new, there were pull tabs and keno in the bar, and a super cool patio out back. We meant to eat out there but completely forgot! We did go have a look after lunch. Totally want to go back! They also had great music playing alt rock (my jam!) music outside as you walk in, in the bathrooms and of course patio and bar areas. First time here. Service was fine, although it seemed the server had a few large groups which made drink refills a challenge. Our group liked their food overall: lake perch, Fiesta Salad (it was raved about) but the burger was really bland, over cooked despite requesting medium. Extremely loud and the musician they had wasn't awesome, but I would give this place another try and order anything but the burger. The service was terrible If I had to guess our server was going on break or getting off the clock because she rushed our food to the table and disappeared we needed condiments for our meal and by the time we waited and finally asked the bar tender for some sauces our food was cold! Last month I went over to Grand Rapids for Labor Day weekend. So that Friday my cousin told me about this place and wanted to try it out herself because she never been here before but heard good things about it. One fo the things that caught my eye on our way to the patio was a pull tab machine which I'm used to seeing here in Wisconsin. Side note I did win $7 and only spent two bucks lol. Wasn't a big menu but sometimes that can be a good thing, especially if you're hungry and want to order right away. My cousin went with the cobb salad and I went with their French dip. Usually when I get a French dip the beef is sliced, but this was different because it was a braised English roast. My cousin salad was about his huge has her head if not bigger when they brought it out. I liked how my sandwich came with hand-cut fries. The roast for my sandwich was so tender, flavorful and very good au jus. It was so good I didn't even eat the second half I boxed it so I can have it later to eat. Next time I'm over there visiting relatives I'm letting my cousin know we have to go back there again so I can get that sandwich again! read more

This is the Ruben you have been waiting for, longing for, in fact. Beautiful corn beef which took a swim in beer (beer braised), slow roasted (for I can only imagine long hours). Piled with sauerkraut, swiss cheese and 1000 island on the fine crafted marble rye bread. These tacos aren't always on the menu because they are especially good and on the specials. Also, completely delicious and not overly heavy, as some might think from a deep fish taco. Avocado, pickled onions and a creamy dressing that is nice & tangy. Drink of choice for me is a Bloody Mary. I don't know how they make them so good. They also have a Bloody Mary bar on the weekend. I would prefer not to not make my own. Bartenders are very skilled individuals that know things I just don't as well. I would highly recommend. I have never had a bad thing. They have a great patio, slushies (with or without liquor). The atmosphere here is confusing, but welcoming and comfortable. It's dark, buy has big windows that let in lots of light. Brown table with black benches. Open space with bar in middle. Only negative is when entering servers area is on opposite side of bldg and can't see you, and there's no sign saying seat yourself. I ordered their Grandwich 2019 entry the PBB&J Monte Cristo with fries and Siracha Deviled Eggs. The sandwich was surprisingly filling. I was shocked to only be able to finish half. It is very rich and extremely delishous. It is far from a Classic Monte Cristo, more lika cousin, however who cares! The fries were the suprising thing. They were pure excellence. Probably the best fries I've had this decade. I'm serious, they were that good, crisp on the outside. Melted in your mouth inside. Their loaded fries look even better, next time. The Deviled Eggs were very pretty and just as good as the rest of the meal. The service at first scared me with no welcoming. However after that it was 1st rate. Overall a massive 5 stars.
