First, the good: our waiter, Kareem, was a delight! Even though we sat out on the patio and not the wine bar, he gave us a wine tasting before we chose what we wanted. The wine variety is excellent, btw. We also got both the quiche Lorraine and smoked salmon quiche, which were among the best quiches I've ever had! The crust was absolutely perfect. The not so good: the cinnamon was advertised as one of their best items, so naturally we got one. Absolutely the worst cinnamon roll I've ever had - we were told that we had to order it with enough time to let it rise, but that puppy tasted stale, which means it was definitely not made fresh. The food at Cork is amazing! This place is a gem. We came here on a Saturday night at 6:30pm, and it was honestly not very busy. We were seated for our reservation right away. Our server was the sweetest and checked on us often. The downstairs is a bar and wine shop. The upstairs is a spacious restaurant. I would recommend making a reservation, but you could probably also just walk in. We ordered the house-made focaccia, which was insanely good. We also had the calamari, heirloom tomatoes, hanger steak, brussels, and spaghetti vongole. The hanger steak was perfectly medium rare and tender. The flavor was delicious. The calamari was crispy, and the sauce was very balanced. Everything was delicious. The wine was also great, of course! I wish I remembered which one we tried. My friend spilled her wine on her lap, but the waitress was so nice about it and brought her stuff to clean up! I would definitely come back here again! The food and service were amazing. read more

A second visit here was a bit disappointing. We were sat around 9:30pm and were handed menus and while we perused them we ordered our wine. When we finally put our order a few minutes before 10pm with the server who didn't come by very often, he came back at 10:03pm to tell us the kitchen was closed and they wouldn't be able to honor our food orders. I wish the server had actually told us the kitchen was closing or stopped by so we could be prompted to get our order in earlier. I'm still not sure what happened if we ordered before 10pm but totally understand the kitchen closes! We ended up ordering a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate but the server's comments upon placing them on our table confused us. The plates also came super late, as we had nearly finished our wine. The plates also left all of us hungry as it's not very filling. However, the upstairs space is super cute and enjoyable to be in. The wine selection is great, too! read more

My friends felt the same about their glasses of wine. Unfortunately, the menu at Cork Wine Bar is not marked with information about accommodations for those with dietary restrictions, so I opted not to eat there. Once we finished, the bartender allowed us to pay separately; our wines were expensive for the pours we received and our overall enjoyment of what we received. We did not have food at this place so I cannot review that.. but I came to this restaurant with reservation planning to do some wine flight and have small plates before our other plans for the night. It was Valentine's Day, so I made a reservation in advance, knowing that it was going to be packed and I did not want to wait. I hate to say it, but not a great experience. For a well drink, that's absurd - even if they used top shelf liquor - and I don't know why that would be the default. On top of this the service was really slow despite the space being only about half full, and the servers themselves didn't seem to know the menu very well. At a wine bar it feels fairly important to know what wines you carry and some of the intricacies of each. For two 3x3oz flights (at a 'special' price!), 4 G&T's, 1 additional glass of wine and an order of french fries our tab came out to nearly $180 before tip. Very disappointed. read more

The bartender was knowledgeable about the wine list and was attentive. We ordered the Vintner's Plate which is a mix of meats and cheeses, and the fried calamari and shrimp appetizer. This place is always a win we for me, whether I want a sit down dinner or just a great glass of wine! I first discovered this place when I lived across the street bach in 2019, and lived to come by for a glass of wine after work. Fast forward a few years, the staff is still excellent and amazingly have remembered me (and my favorite wines) all these years later. So far they have never lead me astray in the wine by the glass, and I usually end up with a bottle or two to take home. What a surprisingly cute spot! I met a few friends here for an event. This was my first time and won't be my last. When you first walk in, you're greeted with a wall of different wines for purchase. There is a bar area in the front and a sitting area in the back. There is also a second floor that is more like a traditional restaurant. I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bartender who suggested a few different wine options. I went with a sweeter Chardonnay that was delicious and also available for purchase. I ordered the skirt steak. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. This is a wonderful place for a date night or girl's night. The atmosphere is great and the menu has the potential to wow but we had a mediocre experience. Let me first say that the bartender and waitress were doing their best. The bartender was always making sure that we knew he was keeping us in mind but that he was delayed. Both very kind. I am just not sure if they train their staff appropriately. It is a wine bar and store...and the waitress didn't know much about the wine list and the bartender knew more but just didn't seem well schooled on wine. Some of the servings were small and others great. The cheese plate had no description so we didn't know what the cheeses were. Though they and the bread were very good. The chicken liver pate was the perfect serving size and they brought us more bread out to help us out. :) The seasonal veggies plate was a small serving and the calamari platter was huge. A few days ago, Antwain and I visited Cork, located on 14th St NW. I was rediscovering a place and it was Antwain's first visit. It was date night. Cork, is a "Black owned" establishment and it's located within walking distance from our home. Antwain's first response was, "I love the ambiance" and I thought it was comfortable and convenient. The menu was simple but had depth. The wine list, of course, was ample. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The manager was really cool guy who was excited that we picked Cork because it is Black owned. The young man who waited on us was patient and helped me with my selection for the evening. I knew I want the calamari, but he suggested the arugula salad to go with it....and boy was he right! After a couple of glasses of wine, good food and great conversation we ended up checking out the wine market before heading home. We each purchased a bottle for later. I picked up a bottle of Dido, 2019 Montsant. So, I am recommending Cork, if you are looking for a great date/dinner evening. I'll be going back soon. read more

I feld very disrespected by the management of Cork Wine Bar. They were very narrow-minded and inflexible when i went in there to use the restroom during the Pride Parade this past Saturday. I'm not sure if i was being discriminated against because I was wearing a Pride shirt and short shorts, or if the manager just has terrible people skills, but I was told that the restroom is for guests only and escorted me to the door. I told him I'd be happy to purchase a drink at the bar but he doubled down and said guests only. He also told me I should go down the street to Bar Pilar, which I did, and I told them about my experience at Cork. Well they weren't happy that the manager at Cork was doing that, they of course did let me use the restroom and I did go back there with my friends after the parade, as we were happy to give them our business. I was so disappointed by the way I was treated at Cork. The place was empty dispite a crowded city and my suggestion to the management would be to do the right thing and treat everyone who walks into their establishment as a guest. Maybe then you would have some business vs. the obviously completely empty space. Would it have hurt you to act with kindness? Bad vibes...would not recommend. read more

Dinner: I've been here for happy hour and dinner. This experience was dinner and it was a lot less satisfying than the happy hour experience. For a Friday night, they were short staffed and service was very slow. Our hamachi was supposed to be seared, but came out overcooked. Saffron risotto was very watery and it felt more like a porridge than a risotto. Saving grace was the lamp chop. The sauce was very unique and went well with lamb. Budding oenophiles and veteran tasters rejoice! Cork serves up fulsome bites along with a varied wine selection. This inviting wine bar is well-lit and not overflowing with tables - those are chiefly for dinner. A rear dining room has more seating, though the room itself is not obvious upon first inspection. We were irked by a not-exactly-inviting hostess, but the bartender (forgot his name!) was cheery, getting us what we needed. The kitchen turns out surprisingly good fare. We shared calamari, a delightful avacado on toast, and charcuterie: the San Daniele prosciutto, Hudson Valley duck salami, and Palacios chorizo (the trio was $15, a good deal). The duck salami was satisfying to render, the chorizo a must-try, and the chorizo's pronounced, smoky flavor made me curse in wonder. For drinks, a friend and I both sipped Prosecco wine flights - creative, fun, smooth - netting us three glasses each. *This review is for one of the wine classes. I recently attended their Holiday Entertaining 101 class and it was so awesome I cannot wait to go to more events here. The class was held on the 2nd floor in a private room with a cozy communal table and a few other tables set up with holiday decor, liquors, wines, meat and cheese and other goodies from their market downstairs. The owner of Cork Diana Gross and one of the cheesemongers hosted the class and they were both fantastic and dropped some great knowledge on food wine and entertaining. The concept of the class was to share how to make some nice holiday drinks and create great apps and cheese boards for a party or get together. We started with a few full sized liquor drinks (a bourbon punch and a champagne cocktail), ample tastings of many of their meats, cheeses, olives, dried fruits and some crostinis before ending the class several wine tastings. At $40 pp/ this was a really great deal and experience! You can tell Diana is so passionate about her business and that her and her staff put a lot into the wines and food they serve/sell.
