New location and it's just not the same. I had the Garlicky Mushroom Burger and the bun was burnt black so that's all I could taste. Took the top bun off and it was better. My companion had the grilled cheese with ham and it was missing something-maybe some bacon jam or something. When we got the bill, the waitress saw we were paying in cash and said she'd take off the credit card service charge. After waiting a good bit and seeing how hard it was for her to make change for us, she still hadn't removed the charge. What a bummer! Also, very noisy and a terrible location with a tiny parking lot. We were disappointed after having been at the old location and thought it was some of the best food we had in Duluth. We went in for lunch, it was delicious. I had a basic pastrami and Swiss sandwich. The rye was crunchy and I opted for the half pound of meat on the sandwich was enough to fill me until dinner time. The man making the sandwiches asked me what I was having before I actually ordered, so after I paid my sandwich was ready. I waited about 5 minutes in line and that was it, I sat down and enjoyed my lunch. I was very happy with my service. As a precursor, I'm writing my review way after the date of visit. I would like to stay anonymous in the public eye, even though the employees within the Deli know exactly who I am. A "freak" they called me! It was clear, through their actions and their lingering stares, I was unwanted in their city, their state, and possibly even their region. ------- This is my story. My 3-star review story. Among my friends, family, and enemies (Corktown Deli), I am known as an avid sandwich lover. I go crazy for them. Though I tend to stray away from red, processed deli meat, it is, and forever will be, my guilty pleasure. I need to get my kick every now and again just like anyone else. Naturally, with all that being said, Corktown Deli seemed like the most logical place to visit for lunch while in Duluth. Located in between the unfinished overpass that is nowhere near being completed and the world's largest pothole, Corktown Deli sits quietly in the gentrified part of the city. A cozy, niche little shop that sells sandwiches, bowls, and frozen lasagna. Unfortunately for the deli, aesthetics is the only positive thing it has going for it. They claim that their food is edible, but I learned the hard way that that is NOT the case. Though the staff was full of smiles when I walked in, I slowly figured out they were not smiles of joy because they were going to happily serve another customer. They were villainous, borderline psychotic smiles with a hint of evil behind them. Each member of the Corktown team knew of the alleged ploy against me and knew if they allegedly played their cards right it would work out just how they wanted. All they needed me to do was order the "La Torta," which I did. And from that point on, it was off to the races. Only thing was, that I had no idea of it. Frankly speaking, the sandwich tasted incredible. I was running on a $7 bottle of water from the airport and adrenaline. Really, anything would've satisfied me. The sandwich was crispy, and each bite had a bit of zest and tang. What I didn't know about the sandwich though, was that it would plague me on and off for the next 30 hours. Plague may come off as a bit dramatic, but to those who know me personally, that is the farthest thing from the truth. I never exaggerate. The next 30 hours were more of a rollercoaster than anything I've been on at Cedar Point (for reference, Cedar Point is the world's best amusement park- now that is 5 stars!). I felt as if my organs were turning inside out. Hallucinations, fever daydreams, and screaming were just a few of my many symptoms. For hours at a time, I could only get around on my hands and knees. Gatorade and ibuprofen can only fix so much. I only pray the guests I was staying with invite me back after the performance I put on. Not only is this all the alleged truth for myself, but I'm sure it was for others as well. I would never accuse a restaurant of food poisoning me. It's unethical, gross, and inhumane. I would, however, accuse a restaurant of "rushing the food" during "the lunch hour" so all the customers could "eat." And if that means maybe undercooking my chicken a bit, then so be it. Your words, not mine. Again, all alleged. The only question that truly remains now is, would I go back again? And the answer is, yes. Of course, I'd go back again! Only this time maybe I wouldn't get the "La Torta." And I probably wouldn't show my face again just in case there was an alleged ploy against me. Everyone else I was with seemed to do alright. So maybe just one more time would bump my 3-stars to 5. Time will tell. read more

$17+ for a sandwich and soup after tax. Tasty but expensive and greasy sandwich (Pastrami Reuben $12), subpar soup (Smoked whitefish chowder$3.5). I rounded down from 3.5 stars... I came here due to a recommendation from a friend, but she didnt tell me what to order. After asking the front, they suggested the Pastrami -- and since they make the Pastrami in house, with a 6+ day process, I had to try it! Sandwich was decent! Tasty pastrami, nicely buttered and toasted rye. However, I felt like for the price ($12), it was a bit lacking in pastrami. Plus, I could feel the butter/mayo/sauce (that made it so tasty) rolling and coating my tongue as I ate. In the end, I lost the taste of pastrami, and just enjoyed fat+carbs. But I spent $12 to taste the house pastrami, not butter. The soup was not pretty. It is chunky, with threads of fish floating through in an unappetizing manner. It looked like a cream sauce that had broken - except it was a water base. The flavor was alright, though bland. Still, the aesthetics threw me off. Again, the sandwich was tasty! - but most anything is tasty with butter. It just wasn't worth $17+ for just a sandwich and soup. read more

Easy in/out during covid chaos. We ate here twice in one day while spending the day in Duluth. Great food and vibes.

Since covid started, we have ordered through the app probably 6-7 times and each time our experience is perfect! We LOVE their food snd it's easy to take to go. The deli inside sells great meats and cheeses to go. Mac and cheese, salads and sandwiches are all great! My fav is the dill pickle sandwich, my hubby only gets the Reuben because it's that good. read more

This place has only been open for three days, but you'd never know by looking! The employees were incredibly friendly and worked like a well-oiled machine, churning out amazing sandwiches, soups and salads with homemade/local ingredients. I was in town for the Grandma's Marathon and happened across Corktown while having dinner across the street. I'm so glad I stopped by for lunch to give them a try! My BF and I ordered the Turko Pestey and Pastrami Reuben respectively. Both were delicious and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an awesome sandwich. read more

I'm so thankful that Corktown is still open even during the pandemic. It's seriously my favorite sandwich place in the Northland, and I filled out an entire punchcard's worth of sandwiches since being here (I've been in the area since January - I have eaten a whole lot of sandwiches). This area of town is becoming the go to area for great food in Duluth. I had the Porcine Princess(porketta) with a lemon caper chimichurri and the smoked whitefish chowder. Great sandwich and I really like the chowder. It was more brothy than creamy and very homemade tasting. The pricing is a little on the higher end but not bad for homemade fresh food. Corktown is terrific. The atmosphere is so much fun. We tried something new today (every sandwich that I have ever had is definitely good). My guy had the honey badger sandwich He said it was very good and very messy. Ha! Ha! I had the double dipper. The sandwich, especially the bread was almost like a sour dough hoagie. Crunchy on the exterior and soft in the middle. I didn't care for the au jus. It had a flavor I didn't like but couldn't place. Possibly rosemary. The only thing I would warn about this place is that they use green pepper a lot even when it's not stated for example one sandwich has a cream cheese spread or something like that and I ordered it once and I got half way through and realized that I may have eaten green pepper. I called and sure enough, they confirmed. I am allergic so I am now more careful. We sat in the bar and I tried the blueberry cream ale. It was from a loca brewery. It was very good. read more

First time there and was very disappointed. My knuckle sandwich had way too much going on. The spicy mustard overtook the entire sandwich. The line was confusing and when people are sitting at the bar you cannot get through the line divider. They need to eliminate that to make more room for two way traffic in that small space. I was in town visiting family and we went here for lunch. My family was excited that Duluth had a great deli again and wanted me to see it. Overall our experience was great. The restaurant is a modern take on a classic concept. They cure their own deli meats, have an open kitchen and have nice size portions. Having visited delis all across the country, I would say the portions are not huge like New York but certainly larger than your average sandwich shop. They also have a bar with beer and wine, many people were enjoying locally brewed beer while they were eating lunch. I ordered the pastrami ruben. I would say it was good but not amazing. The bread was good and was grilled nicely, and the sauerkraut was good. My problem was that the pastrami was a little dry and its flavor was over powered by the bread and kraut. I am probably being picky here but the sandwich was just not perfection, it was good. In my opinion the pastrami should be the star. With regards to my four star rating, I just didn't feel like the price / value proposition was there and the pastrami was dry. My sandwich was $13 and did not include any sides. By the time I added chips and a drink I was close to $20. If this lunch was mind blowing I think the price would have need easier to swallow. I suspect this is the best in Duluth and it is well worth a visit. I have not had time to visit other alternatives in town so my review comes from what I have experienced across the country.
