I personally didn't care for the place, but the steaks were pretty huge haha my favorite item on the menu was the onion rings! One of the best I've ever had but that would be the only thing I'd definitely go back for. The chicken parm was just not hitting it but I do like the concept of it as a sandwich. We had read about this place ahead of our visit and the reviews were not wrong. Waitstaff were so friendly and on point.. fast too. It was a Wednesday night so not a lot of customers, but she made us feel like we were #1!! We had the cheese and sausage appetizer... delish.. huge!! Enough for 6 people!!! Manhattan Clam Chowder was the bomb!! Soooo flavorful! Yummy!! My hubby had the ribeye.. char grilled to perfection.. with Gouda mashed potatoes and veggies. He ate every bite. After 20+ years of loyalty, this place managed to ruin a birthday and lose our business in one night. On May 28th my friend ordered a medium‑rare steak. What he got was well‑done. Sent it back. The second steak? Also overcooked. Then came the moment that sealed it: The chef marched to our table with a photo of a steak on his phone, insisting maybe the "lighting" made it look overcooked. Meanwhile, my steak -- in the exact same lighting -- was perfectly medium‑rare. The entire dining room stopped to watch this arrogant performance. It was humiliating and completely uncalled for. The third attempt showed up in a to‑go box, and when my friend opened it at home, it was practically raw (see attached picture). Spite from the chef? Three failed steaks, zero accountability, and a public lecture from the chef. After two decades of choosing this restaurant for special occasions, we're done. read more

Came here based on the yelp reviews, and the photos while we were in town for the day. The location is well placed, on the water, but, as it's Minnesota, it's closed off to the elements. The staff was not the friendliest when we entered (minus one star) and said do you have reservations, even though their was plenty of space (another person luckily came and said, we have plenty of tables). The location had this dark pub vibe (which was mentioned earlier) but, was warm at the same time. The waitress recommended a few items, and we decided based on when we went to just order a host of appetizers. Everything was delicious! Nostalgic visit for us; more than 40 years since the last time we were in the Duluth area. We enjoyed lunch-whitefish sandwich and chips/greens salad with pear, feta and salmon. Wine/beer. My wife and I split a club sandwich and I said it was the best I've ever had but I don't get them often. My wife, who LOVES club sandwiches, said it was the best she's ever had. Yes, as some others have mentioned, it is a touch pricey but you're in Duluth and I imagine everything here is a touch expensive. This is the middle of nowhere (but a rather nice mid-sized city). I came here for a late lunch. There was plenty of seating and parking. Parking is free btw. I was able to try the chicken noodle soup and the manhattan clam chowder. The soups were delicious and seasoned perfectly. The broiled trout was okay. I wish it more seasoning as it was on the bland side. I enjoyed the Gouda mash and the veggies on the side. The ambiance is amazing, it's a very old building. They display the history of the restaurant on their walls. The food was delicious, we tried several dishes the smoked white fish with all of the fixings was my favorite. We also tried their chowder which was also delicious. I'm in town for work and went in for lunch today. Love the dark pub vibe and had outstanding service from Marcus. I'm one who takes photos of my food all the time... this time I just plain forgot because it was so good. I got the Walleye Fingers from the appetizer menu - it was a good portion size for lunch. The fish was clearly good quality, crispy batter and not at all greasy. Maybe the best Walleye I've had. The wasabi tartar sauce was over the top good. read more

Stopped by Pickwick's while in town for work... All in all, solid experience, but not exceptional. The restaurant has an "old feel" (it could def use a facelift) and is presumably frequented by all the old Duluth $. The service was excellent (our server, Michelle, the lil brunette smoke show was awesome) and the food was good... Recommend the smoked whitefish appetizer and the walleye dinner; the whitefish was the best part of our meal and out of this world (some of the best smoked fish I've ever had) and the walleye was good, but a bit heavy and greasy for my liking... I went against my better judgement and got the fried walleye (which was supposed to be lightly fried, but it was not). I recommend getting the sautéed or broiled instead, if you don't want/like heavy food. Pickwick's was pricey, which was the biggest drawback... I have no problem paying for good food, but I don't know if the meal was worth $80 (for just me) for the quality food? You'll have to be the judge. read more

We didn't make reservations and there weren't any seats available so we had to sit at the bar. the bread was soooo good, like it was freshly baked. had the spicy beef vegetable as a starter and had the grilled salmon with baked potato. all tasty! oh and had the white fish appetizer, it was different for me but it was good. definitely would come back! read more

My friend and I made a stop in here for dinner and for not having reservations I was not expecting much but we were seated right away. Clair was our server and right away we loved her. She was very friendly and had a great sense of humor and was not only knowledgeable of the menú but also about Duluth. We ordered some wine and some food to start our evening then got some recommendations on desserts. The red velvet cake was recommended and was unlike the nasty red-dyed cake you normally get with no flavor. While enjoying our wine we took the time to enjoy the beautiful woodwork. We gazed at the crown molding and all the beautiful beams and felt a sense of awe at how many people have dined in this beautiful place and how many people appreciate the sheer elegance of the actual space. Every time I make a trip to Duluth I make sure I make at least one stop here. The service has always been good and I have never had anything I have ordered so bad it was not eatable. Pickwick has ample parking and you can smell the meats cooking outside luring you in. read more

It is right on the lake with a beautiful view and the food is a fun meat/fish and potatoes vibe This is not a dress fancy and expect to spend a billion dollars. When my party of three walked in at 6pm we were told all dining was booked for the rest of the night and only high top in bar available if open (thankfully was one). Busy must mean good right? Correct! I had the local fish fried with some shrimp from the grill. The shrimp was unseasoned but huge in size, the fish was well portioned (I couldn't finish my few pieces provided) and seasoned nicely. The baked potato had salt outside so got extra points from me. The waitress was extra attentive and did not disappear for too long at any time on a packed night which was impressive. The bar area was built like a barrel and had a great feel to it with plenty of TVs for viewing. This place definitely hit the mark other than the sides. I would definitely go again or recommend. I enjoyed looking at all the fine details at the back-bar and enjoyed seeing classic food. The service however was definitely lacking with the restaurant staff and the bar staff was a little slow at getting things out. They were busy, so I was understanding of that. This was our post-Grandma's Marathon dinner. The supper club atmosphere offers beautiful views of the lake. I chose the prime rib which was cooked to perfection with rich flavors and juicy meat. I also had the mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. A huge amount to eat. All was good. Service was good. Parking easy. As you approach Pickwick's you can smell the smoky, chargrilled smell in the evening air. For the App we had the Lake Superior smoked whitefish accompanied by crackers, boiled eggs, capers, chopped purple onion and a light horseradish sauce. The smoky flavor was just right. For dinner we had the Napoleon burger with onion rings. The burger had that chargrilled, backyard burger flavor and the onion rings were crispy and flavorful. read more

This place has all the makings of a classic steakhouse. I can image the iron ore Barrons drinking martinis or bourbon, smoking cigars and eating steaks in this historic place. Even though on my two visits, I opted for Walleye and the Pork Chop instead of steak, I was not disappointed. Both are very good and the twice baked potato is worth the hefty $5 upgrade as a side. Simply delicious. The drinks are another story. One night better than the other so likely depends on the bartender but neither really any good.
