(They ask this so they can recommend some dishes if it's your first time) Food: Everything we have gotten here has truly been great. No fuss or frills, just really nice diner food done the right way. Our favorite breakfast items are the country fried steak and eggs, and the linguica and eggs. Our favorite sandwiches are the club on toasted wheat, tuna sandwhich (that we get as a melt on toasted rye for $1 more), and the Philly cheese steak. We love to get the garlic fries. The crinkle cut fries are so crispy yet fluffy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. Overall the portions are generous, delicious, and reasonably priced.

You can see that the owners have their friends there and there is great banter and friendship. The mom is there with a huge smile and greeting. Just a friendly, happy place. My boyfriend and I have been to Standard Pub several times during the day, and every visit has been fantastic. We've enjoyed the food, drinks, and even had the pleasure of speaking with the owner on multiple occasions. The service was always welcoming, and the food was consistently phenomenal. Because of those great experiences, we decided to bring some friends on a Saturday night. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the atmosphere looked promising. There appeared to be a DJ setting up, and the crowd seemed excited for a night of music, food, and drinks. Unfortunately, our experience that evening was completely different from what we had come to expect. We ordered food and drinks, and while our server wasn't outright rude, he seemed uninterested in providing the level of service we had previously received. As the night went on, things became increasingly odd. Shortly after ordering another round of drinks, while our drinks were still full and we had just received them, the server approached our table and asked if we were finished. My boyfriend jokingly responded, "No, let me talk to your manager," and laughed, assuming the server was joking as well. The server responded, "Yeah, it's my brother," but with an attitude that left everyone at our table looking at each other wondering what had just happened. He then informed us that we needed to put a credit card on file. At that point, we had already been there for over an hour, and it seemed strange that this requirement was only being brought up then. We also noticed that no other tables around us were being asked for a card. The most disappointing part came when we received the bill. There was an additional $60 service charge added--$35 on my friends' bill and $25 on ours. Confused, we asked for an explanation. The explanations we received kept changing. First, we were told it was because my boyfriend was sitting with another group, which was completely false. Then we were told it was because the bill exceeded $100. After that, we were told it was because there were more than six people in our party, despite there only being four of us. The inconsistent explanations were frustrating and made it feel as though the staff were simply making up reasons to justify the charge. Our issue wasn't necessarily with a service fee itself--it was the lack of disclosure and the conflicting stories we were given when we asked about it. To make matters worse, the receipt also included a separate line for an additional tip. After discussing it with them and explaining that additional charges should be clearly communicated to customers, the service charge was ultimately removed. This review is not a reflection of the food, which remains excellent, nor of our previous experiences at Standard Pub. It is solely based on the service and handling of the situation during our Saturday night visit. We left feeling disappointed and confused, especially because this establishment had earned our trust through many positive visits in the past. I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident and that management addresses these issues so other customers don't have a similar experience

The sandwich was stuffed with delicious BBQ pulled pork, bacon, and the Provolone had a great cheese pull. So tasty! The "individual" order of fries was enough to feed two people, filling the bottom of a paper bag, and had a very yummy seasoning salt (BBQ?). The flavors were spot on, and these are substantial sandwiches. In fact, next time we could probably share one. We also shared the jalapeño Parmesan artichoke dip, which was excellent. We enjoyed some there and brought the rest home. The soups didn't have the same opportunity--we polished those off pretty quickly. Very flavorful. The iced tea was clearly freshly brewed and quite strong, which I actually prefer because I can adjust it to taste. It came in a generously sized glass as well. Lucille is a small place, but they've made very good use of the space. The interior is attractive and has a slightly modern, new-age feel. There was a steady stream of people dining in and picking up orders, and it wouldn't take many more customers to fill the place. I also noticed a nice wine selection and an espresso machine. One other thing stood out: the employees seemed genuinely happy to be there. Lots of smiles and a pleasant atmosphere throughout our visit. Excellent food, generous portions, good timing, and a staff willing to accommodate a customer who showed up a little ahead of schedule. An easy five stars from us.

However, the toast menu doesn't match the menu on table 26's own website. When I pointed this out to the staff member I was told that if I wanted one of those items I could come in and order it in person. I clarified that the person wouldn't accept call in orders and they told me they don't have the ability to do that(despite it saying on yelp that you can call to order). I'm not sure if the phone lines have been outsourced or something else, but any place that makes it this hard for me to be a customer has lost me as one. It's unfortunate as this used to be one of Turlock's gems for both food and service.

The macaroni and cheese had good flavor, although it seemed a bit dry and firm, as if it had been sitting for a while. I understand that everyone has different styles of barbecue, and this may have simply been an off day. I'm sharing this feedback in the hope that it's helpful, because I know many people speak highly of Big Vic's. I truly hope this was just an exception, and I'd be willing to give them another try in the future.
