My partner and I came to eat here after visiting a pumpkin patch in Turlock. The ambiance was cute and clean. I had never had mozzarella sticks in the way they were served but they were quite tasty! I had an eggplant ravioli special , but it was served lukewarm and a little undercooked which was disappointing. My partner enjoyed his dish okay , but was not particularly impressed. My kids go to school down the street and I had some free time before their next Christmas performance. Decided to take myself to lunch (which is rare). I was greeted immediately upon entering and asked for a table for 1. I was directed to a booth and a waitress came to get my drink order, while the one who sat me brought me some bread and butter. I asked for help with wine and we settled on a pinot noir. She asked if I wanted to hear the specials, which I did and ended up ordering the pumpkin ravioli special. I opted for the dinner, which also comes with soup and salad. The soup is a house made minestrone and the salad had a blend of greens, kidney beans, tomatoes, carrots and I chose ranch. The carrots were sliced, leaving them pretty crunchy. My ravioli was delicate and perfectly cooked. You can tell their pasta is made by hand. It came in a light cream sauce with nutmeg and pecans. I will definitely be returning to try some other items. I few mos back, I had their lobster ravioli and it was good chunks of lobster in a better cream sauce. This was one of the worst meals I have ever had. As we walked it, the smell coming from the kitchen was awesome, so I had high hopes. But the quality was quite disappointing. It was our 1st time there so we were excited, we love Italian. The 1st disgusting thing to come out of the kitchen were the over cooked,mushy, burger patty looking "crab cakes". I don't know how old they were, but at least had to be 2-3 days. It was just salty mush.. took the 2nd crab cake to the feral cats. We ordered a meatball, which looked amazing, but again we were quickly disappointed by the under cooked mushy mystery meat. We ate part of the outside that had a decent crust, but my friends dogs got the leftovers of the meatball. Next cake the tasteless up of minestrone. Never in my life have I had such bland tasteless "soup"! It was a watered down and had no flavor. My cup had 2 kidney beans and 1 slice of carrot. They should be embarrassed what was coming out of the kitchen... Then our dinner salads came out. As an Italian restaurant you would think they could do better than carrots and kidney beans. Im assuming they make their own Italian dressing, it was all oil and again no seasoning. I did switch it for ranch. 2 or 3 tables came in after us and received their dinners before we did. We finally had to ask, so they kinda forgot about the 3 entrées we had ordered. I had the chicken marsala that the waitress had suggested, it was TERRIBLE!! Old precooked chicken and the wine was not cooked out or something was sour. My friends chicken picata wasn't any better. The last entrée was shrimp scampi like I have just never seen before. The sauce was awful and the pasta was mushy and the butterflied shrimp were rubbery. That was the only dish we sent back because it was really inedible. The best thing we order was the garlic bread, it was light and airy. I can say with 100% certainty i will never ever go back. When we did complain about the scampi our waitress seemed so irritated, but yet never apologized for the fact they forgot about our order. We waited 90 minutes for garage! read more

I had my first meal at Angelini's today and found the experience "meh" for the following reasons. First, let me compliment the servers with reservations. I was meeting others and was seated promptly, with the appetizer and glass of wine I ordered served promptly and with good cheer. When my friends arrived, we ordered in due form, and the food arrived shortly thereafter. We all ordered soup, but for some reason, the server didn't bring mine with theirs so I sat and waited to see if she would realize the mistake. She didn't. after a few minutes, I had to ask for the bowl, which was promptly brought. Clearly it had been either dumped in (overflow being clearly evident) or sloshed in transit. She placed it down in front of me and disappeared. This was the first time in all my years of dining (which includes Italy) that I wasn't offered parm cheese for the minestrone. (There's always a first). When the Caesar salad came, no cheese was offered again, but when I asked an ample portion was brought. Who knows? The chicken was dry and thin, maybe grilled, maybe grilled at the source. Thick and juicy it wasn't. The amount of dressing was thin also. Also, when my friends asked for water, none was offered to me (as would be the custom at other places). There was an air of "hurry" as we arrived at 1:30 with one of our members coming near their closing time of 2 pm. If you want to try them, come earlier and don't set expectations the same as other Italian restaurants. Overall, 3/5 is a fair rating. read more

I am so glad I found this place!! I am a repeat takeout customer. I haven't had the pleasure of dining in yet, but the place always seems to be packed, particularly on Friday night. Lots of to-go traffic too. To-go packaging is designed to keep the heat and the sauce in without leaks and it's mostly successful. They wrap the pasta in aluminum foil and fold it to keep the sauce in the container. It's pretty easy to slide the pasta out into the dish. I was pleasantly surprised when I asked about gluten-free pasta. They have fettuccine instead of the usual penne. It is such a treat to have real noodles! They're well prepared but of course get pretty soft and breakable when taken to-go. Their gluten-free fettuccine with red clam sauce is positively delicious! The sauce has plenty of garlic and a little bit of a kick without being spicy. The clams are good sized, and have great texture but they are not in their shells and there are MANY of them. This dish is loaded. While they have the gluten-free fettuccini, other items are predictable in their standard gluten content. The minestrone has gluten as do the desserts and the sourdough bread served with the gluten-free pasta. My mom had the spaghetti with meat sauce and added the "one giant meatball." The meatball is truly huge and comes with a bit of sauce in its own container, but that sauce was the regular sauce, not the meat sauce so there was a bit of a mismatch when combining them. She also said the meatball didn't have a lot of flavor and she didn't finish it. The meatball was also very dense. I hope to dine-in soon. They have a nice dining room with plenty of booths and a few chairs for people waiting for tables or to-go orders. read more

We waited 25 minutes, which was fine for four people. We ordered appetizers along with our food. The waitress brought us our salad and soup right away. We waited a long while before our appetizers. The calamari was good. The garlic bread with cheese was really good. After that we probably waited an hour for our food. My shrimp was cold and so overdone the texture was horrible. My kids were unable to eat their pizza because it was extremely hot and super crisp. My husband's chicken Parmesan was old chicken, the color and texture wasn't right. I have not been to Angelini's in years and was pleasantly surprised. They have done some remodeling inside which has made the restaurant more attractive to go to. Four of us had a wonderful dinner. Our friends had the cioppino and ravioli specials and said they were excellent. My wife and I had the Alfredo Angelini and, as always, it was perfect. The salad was good and the shredded Parmesan cheese they put on the table was fresh and tasty. Debra was our server and she did a phenomenal job. I grew up in Turlock and used to work at an Italian restaurant on Geer Rd (which has since closed, it was over 30 years ago) while going to College at Stan State. After my shift, I would sometimes head over to Angelini's and get a meal to go. I've always loved their food. I haven't thought about Angelini's since moving to Modesto, but my dad raves about their Cod entree, so for Father's Day, he chose Angelini's for his special lunch. We arrived at about 3 PM and the place was less than half filled, with a customer standing at the register waiting for a to-go order. There were approx 5 employees working and we literally stood there over 8 minutes without being acknowledged. It was a little awkward and I began looking for a sign that said to seat yourself, but there wasn't one. I would understand if it was busy, but at the very least, just acknowledge that you see us and say you'll be right with us. I used to be a server back in the day, and maybe times have changed since then, but it used to be the #1 rule. Now on to the food and service. Both were EXCELLENT. I had the cod that my dad recommended and my dad had the Seabass that was a Special for the day. We started off with warm, fresh bread and butter and minestrone soup with a side of grated parmesan cheese. Then we had a dinner salad that was very fresh. We both had iced tea with a carafe also placed on the table without asking. Sometimes it's the little things that make an impression. The cod was cooked perfectly on a bed of cheesy, lightly garlicky risotto mixed with fresh spinach and I believe green onion. The cod had a light lemon caper sauce over it that was just enough to enhance all of the fresh flavors. The seabass was also cooked perfectly on a bed of cheesy polenta and a side of grilled zucchini. It also had a light lemon sauce with tomatoes and it all melded together for a perfect meal, without feeling overly full. The sevice was awesome once we were seated. We had 3 different people checking on us and everything we asked for (straws and sweeteners for the tea) was provided promptly. Everything ran smoothly without feeling like we were being rushed. The food was a bit pricey ($24 for the cod and $29 for the Seabass) for a total of $63 for 2 people for lunch, but I would order it again. read more
