This place is crazy busy during lunchtime. There is seating outside but who wants to eat outdoors in this heat... You get quite a bit for the price so think twice before you order. I had the full tomato and mozzarella sandwich with a cafe sized ceasar salad. Either one by themselves would have been a decent sized meal so I can only imagine the size of the entree salads. My sandwich also came with a bag of their brand chips. If you want to avoid the crowds they are open to 10pm so a later meal is an option. read more

Well, all you can really say about Corner Bakery Cafe is that it is nothing to write home about. Unless, you're writing your north eastern grandparents who only like really bland food. We did not try the baked goods, so it's certainly possible their treats are respectable. As far as the breakfast menu items......meh. The building is clean and presentable. They keep staff on hand to police up tables and keep things tidy. That is always appreciated. However, it is disappointing to have to give them a plate of half eaten food because of, meh. I ordered buttermilk pancakes and eggs. The picture they use to highlight this breakfast item is enough to open your appetite and salivate. Unfortunately, what arrives on your plate looks like an amateurs attempt at bisquick pancakes from a box. The eggs were also extremely underwhelming. If you are over the age of 60 I'm sure you will like this place. I encourage all to make their own assessment. The steak sandwich is depressing. It might as well be a veggie sandwich since it only has one skinny slice of meat. Not worth ten dollars even with a side. The bacon mac and cheese looks like it has one piece of bacon that was ripped up and tossed in. The side of bread was a smashed mess. Tried them for the first time yesterday (via Doordash). The soup was very good, as was the shrimp pasta, BUT, the pasta in marinara sauce was bad...very bad. The pasta was tasteless, chewy, and just plain BLAND! The garlic toast (that they charge $0.79 a piece for) was soft, and also very flavorless (couldn't tell it was even garlic bread). So, for the price paid, I would have a very difficult time recommend this place to anyone I actually like. Some good, some not-so-good, but for the money, they miss the mark. read more

My boyfriend took me to grab a late lunch here at the Corner Bakery Cafe. It was my first time, he had already been several times. I love that it has a out door patio, the potted colorful flowers were super cute. Service was quick! I ordered the Turkey panini, which consisted of Turkey of course, bacon, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and a bit of mayo. The side was macaroni with bacon. I usually dont eat pasta out because i hate when its undercooked. But this macaroni was pretty dang good. My bf said he did not like the cheese, but hes craycray! Haha jk. I liked the slice of pickle, wish i had two though. Sweet ice tea was refreshing! The only reason i did not give this cozy restaurant five stars was because the panini only had one slice of turkey, which was not fullfilling. Plus, it was a bit pricey for not making the sandwich a bit bigger. Anyways we sat out on the patio and enjoyed our meal. Good food, speedy service, and atmosphere. I didn't realize it was an order up front place. I did like how quickly my order came to my table. But the reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because I had to thoroughly cut my panini with a dull knife, since if wasn't cut all the way through. It appeared that it was cut, but only the first layer of bread. The side of fruit was pretty small for a dollar extra. My impression was that it came with it. There's no option to tip up front, but I kind of wanted to, since I don't usually carry cash. read more

A CASUAL CAFE SERVING UNINSPIRED FOOD The first thing to be aware of is that this is "not' a bakery, but rather a casual bistro serving a limited variety of soups, sandwiches, some pasta dishes, and a few breakfast options. Some folks apparently enjoy their muffins. The place is very clean and well lighted with a high ceiling. The furnishings (both booths and tables) are fairly comfortable. The acoustics, however, leave something to be desired. Every time I've been in there it seems like I am forced to listen to other people's conversations. The place can be loud when it is busy. And, it seems to be busy most of the time. Folks seem to like it. The prices are reasonable, but keep in mind that sandwiches and pastas come only with chips and a pickle. If you want a side....it will cost big time! Want a salad with your sandwich? It will cost another $7.50 to $8.70 as of June 2018. A sandwich, a salad, and a cup of water might run you over $18.00 with tax! Ouch! A couple with each ordering a sandwich or pasta dish, a salad, and a soft drink could easily spend over $35-40.00. When I last walked in around the beginning of lunch time they still had the breakfast menu up above the counter. I asked if they were only serving breakfast and was told, "No, we are also serving the lunch menu." The young lady handed me a menu. Fine. But, the paper menu had no prices listed on it. What's up with that? I had to have the young lady at the register check the prices for me on her computer screen. Once you order they give you a number to place on your table and they bring the food out to you. Napkins and a drink dispenser are on a counter near the rear of the restaurant. Today, on my most recent visit the ice machine was not working. My water consequently remained tepid. Overall, the service has been polite and helpful. The food was brought out within ten minutes. I have sampled their CHICKEN POMODORI PANINI. It had a little good quality chicken in it, but the chicken could have used more seasoning. With melted provolone, fresh basil, spinach, and oven roasted tomatoes, it was pretty good. The sourdough bread was very good. The restaurant seemed to be a little parsimonious with the ingredients between the bread, but overrall the sandwich was good. I have also sampled their CAFE PESTO CAVATAPPI which again featured a small portion of their underseasoned chicken in a pesto cream sauce with a bread crumb topping. It was served over some macaroni pasta. This dish was ok but kind of bland. There was not much about this dish to recommend it. I have also experienced their MEATBALL SANDWICH which for some odd reason does not appear on their menu, but it does on the national chain web site. It came on grilled panini bread which was very tasty....actually excellent. And, it is a good thing that the bread was so good because the meatballs were poor. They were cut into thin slices to make them fit into the panini press and the texture of these so called "meatballs" was poor as was the flavor. Well, the flavor was almost non-existent. No marinara sauce came on the sandwich but there was a little cup on the plate to be used as a dipping sauce. The flavor of the sauce wasn't bad, but that and the good bread could not overcome the poor excuse for meatballs. I have also had their SANTA FE RANCH SALAD. This was a huge salad served in a large white bowl. The shredded chicken was ok....I've had worse. Had to add a little salt and pepper to it. There were also diced tomatoes, a little shredded cheddar, crispy tortilla strips, tons of lettuce, and a spicy roasted corn salsa (with bits of jalapenos). A little cup of avocado ranch dressing accompanied the salad. All the ingredients seemed fresh and the dressing was very good. A little slice of a thick bread came with the salad. It was oiled and had galic salt added to it. It was not bad. Overall, this was a large and pretty good salad. What to expect if you go: A clean, attractive, and comfortable place to dine with a casual fast food type atmosphere, a limited menu, efficient service, a good bit of noise if busy, and food quality that is sort of pedestrian. The food is sort of hit-or-miss. I have had some pretty mediocre stuff here and I've had some fairly good stuff here, but I have never experienced anything really good here. Whenever I order more than one item I always leave thinking I got taken to the cleaners. Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-A HALF STARS....meaning, above average for the total dining experience.....NOT REACHING THE REALLY GOOD LEVEL. But, many people continue to patronize the place. I was passing through Las Cruces. It was a hot May day and I just needed someplace to park for a half hour, get some food, and use some wi-fi to research where to stay for the night. Corner bakery ticked all the boxes. I got a half sandwich and soup. Both were delicious, as were the complimentary pickle and chips. There were outlets by nearly every table so it was easy to find a place to plug in the laptop. I regret that it'll probably be years before I find myself in Las Cruces again. If I lived there, this would be a nice little haunt. read more

Oh how I have missed Corner Bakery. Growing up in California, I had Corner Bakery on every corner, we don't have one in Albuquerque. So when I pulled in to Las Cruces for work, I was delighted when I saw Corner Bakery. I got my Chicken Pesto Panini and went back to the hotel to chow down. It was as good as I remembered, sliced chicken, tomatoes, arugala, and a tangy pesto sauce. Delicious! Service was quick, and if you order the full, you get enough for two people...or in my case, leftovers. Thankfully this hotel has a fridge. :) They also have pastas and salads, along with their premium sandwiches. And then there are the goodies, cinnamon coffee cake, cookies, others cakes, etc. It's all good! read more

My husband and I decided to give Corner Bakery a chance after driving around Las Cruces looking for something new. The initial impression was good, the design and ambiance were nice, the eating area is open and inviting. There is even a nice patio area for when it isn't December. I ordered the Uptown Turkey with a house salad. I requested Ranch Dressing. The gal that took the order didn't comment, and my salad came with Italian. That was fine, but it was not what I ordered and I would have appreciated a heads up while we ordered. All in all the food was 'alright'. I was not impressed with the salad but the sandwich was good. My husband got the Steak and Cheese with a Ceaser Salad. The dressing had a very fishy taste, but not bad. The cheese sauce was like Mac and Cheese without the Mac, and went well with the other flavors. My only complaint was the cleaning. We were there at approximately 630 and our meal was interrupted by an employee dragging the tables all over the dining area to sweep. If we had been here closer to the 10 pm close, I would understand, but how clean can you get a restaurant that will still be open for hours? Decent value, decent food. Was eating with some friends, when I went to use the restroom there was an employee in the bathroom obviously ill. I offered her help, which she denied stating she would be alright. Awhile later, I overheard her tell her manager that she was sick, and throwing up. He simply replied "Grab a bustub, we need you out there" rather than trying to help his employee. The restaurant was not busy, and would have been fine without her there. In fact, the manager seemed to be socializing with the other manager and laughing while one of his employees had told him they were sick. I was very uncomfortable, as this employee was walking around and working the dining room while having to hold her vomit down. I could tell from afar that she was sick, and my friend even made a comment about it and was concerned as well. I was appalled at the manager's attitude and the fact that they do not care about the wellbeing of their employees and customers. It seems to be all about money, just another greedy manager that is unwilling to work the place themselves. Not willing to give my money to this establishment. Very sad for the employees there, as they are forced to work even while sick. Which is very concerning considering we just got out of a pandemic. The rest of the staff was very sweet, and definitely deserve a better manager that actually cares. read more

Ofetn times, you need a classic dish to remind of the good things in life. To me, one of those dishes is chicken Caesar salad. Corner Bakery's version is just as good as a elegant restaurant's version. 3.75 Unlike many of the other national chains that end up in Cruces, this place actually has some decent food. Everything that I've eaten there on my two visits, including tomato basil soup, the lentil soup (stellar, actually), the caesar salad, and the mini pumpkin cake, well as everything enjoyed by those dining with me (including the clam chowder, chicken panini, and tortilla soup), has actually been very, very good. (and if you are sensing a tone of surprise you're spot on....I'm typically predisposed to not like chains). As far as price goes, it's to be expected of a place like this. Around 9 or 10 bucks per person for food is decent for what you get (if you pay a buck or more for iced tea you're already showing a willingness to pay too much for flavored water). Another cool surprise: believe it or not, the MUSIC. On my last time there I heard everything from Stevie Wonder's "As," to a pre-"Blurred Lines" tune by Robin Thicke. And finally, it's a place that "gets" lighting....not the typical Cruces joint bathed in flourescent light. Finally, and perhaps the most important thing, is that everyone working there (I've always gone at night) has been very friendly--something surprisingly lacking at so many other restaurants these days. A great place for an afternoon sandwich and coffee. The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for relaxing with a close friend. Everything we got was absolutely delicious. Each meal cost your average 10-14$ which is fine it's what you expect to spend but that doesn't include the overpriced cups.
