This was (almost) comical. We had wanted to try a different coffee shop this morning but discovered they weren't open yet and we were hungry so we decided to stop in before making a trip to Target. We have been here before a few years ago and the food was pretty good so we were not expecting this experience. We ordered two paninis, two coffees and my husband got an order of pancakes in addition. We ordered it to eat there. They gave us a table number and we sat down. We proceeded to watch three people very confused about how to make a coffee for at least 10-15 min. They are reading handbooks and walking around confused. I then watch them trying to figure out how to make my cold brew in a giant pitcher with tap water from a sink in the back. I watch them measuring out cloudy tap water and reading instructions on how to make it. Meanwhile they are also confused on how to make my husbands caramel macchiato. At one point one of them is smelling the coffee cup. This was all a little concerning but ok whatever. Then we get our food. It was not great but again, whatever. My cold brew was warm and murky and had just a few ice cubes floating in it. My husband was afraid to even try his coffee as when he received it I found this thick black hair in the other half of my panini. My husband mentions this to the woman who brought his coffee and she was nice and took it away and asked if we wanted something else. We were very grossed out and asked can they just refund the pancakes because they still weren't ready and we were just ready to leave. She was nice and said ok but then nobody had any idea how to give a refund. She had to call someone to refund us. We then left and I'm reading the receipt and she didn't refund us she had refunded someone else who had the same table number. I had to call back and tell her she didn't refund the right person or entree. She asked if we could come back but I really didn't want to waste any more time in there. She was very nice and apologetic and called me back and had refunded our entire order even though we just asked for the pancakes to be refunded as they hadn't come out. We will not come back though. This was pretty gross. It takes a lot for me to say something to the staff and not just suffer in silence. This was pretty bad. They really need to train their staff. Making coffee that's on their regular menu should be pretty second nature. Not having hair in the food is also a reasonable expectation. Gross. read more

The service is great. I wasn't impressed with the food. The soup was not real hot and my sandwich was burnt. My husband ordered the turkey avocado and his sandwich was good. I won't go back. I'm a sucker for comfort food, and nothing yells comfort food more than Corner Bakery. I've been to this location a few times and the staff is always so courteous. I always order different items when I stop in, and they have something for everyone. It's always a great spot to just pop in for a hot meal and catch up with family and friends. But if you want a recommendation, I love their club panini and their steel cut oatmeal especially since the cold weather is heading our way. read more

I really want to like this place. The menu looks good and I think it is a fair value for the portion size, the decor has a local flair, and the service is friendly. Unfortunately you confirm over and over that you just can't cook food properly. The food is always so over cooked. The bacon is so hard you can crack it, the eggs and pancakes are burnt on the bottom with little bits of black stuff that tastes horrible. Also not a fan of whatever is in this pancake mix. It's really gooey, in an artificial ingredient way, and doesn't taste right. Also they don't know the difference between iced coffee and cold brew coffee. If you don't have iced coffee, fine, just tell me and I'll order something else. But don't tell me you have iced coffee and then serve me cold brew. I wouldn't recommend and likely won't be back. This is a great place for coffee, dessert, or a meal. The coffee is great and the food it is excellent. This place could be your bakery if you need it to be so. If I need to meet with someone in Naperville or Lisle, I would prefer to meet here over other coffee shops. They share a parking lot with California Pizza Kitchen. They are part of a group of restaurants and an entertainment complex. This establishment can meet a number of needs and has a definite place for me when I am in the area. Approaching the to-go stand to get my food was a woman who looked like she didn't need ANY MORE FOOD and her husband SCREAMING at the employees asking for a refund after they had already eaten their food. The broccoli cheddar soup is vegetarian, so that is a HUGE plus for me. Most places use chicken stock in their broccoli cheddar soup so I miss out on this winter favorite. I can't find fault in this chain joint. I found a ample dining area which was neat and open bright and comfortable. A large readable display menu so you can start to decide while waiting in line to order. The menu and choices are creative and not too crazy. It's been a while since I've visited Corner Bakery. I used to frequent the one in Wheaton until they closed. I was craving a salad the other day, and after looking at the menu online, I decided to give their Mozzarella Tomato Arugula salad a try. I opted for the "trio"; two Mozzarella Tomato Arugula salads and a cup of the Roasted Tomato Basil soup. I placed my order online before work and specified an 11:45 a.m. pickup time. I'll spare all the lame details between getting there and getting back to work, so I'll jump ahead. The pictures online are deceiving though. For almost $9, I could have made my own soup and salad with three times the amount of food. Small portions, big price tag. The soup was quite good. However, they put the "spicy" croutons in the soup and not on the side. By the time I got around to eating it, the croutons had obviously softened and absorbed much of the soup. When I ordered online, there was no option to have the croutons on the side. Pretty disappointing. The salad was good. The mozzarella was fresh, as were the tomatoes. I loved the arugula, but hardly detect the basil. The lemon garlic dressing was a bit heavier than I would have liked; it drenched all the greens to the point of extreme sogginess. Again, there wasn't an option to have the dressing on the side. Other items I've tried include the Santa Fe Ranch Salad, the Ham on Pretzel signature sandwich, Lemon Chicken Orzo soup, and for breakfast, the Anaheim Scrambler. All in all, the food was okay but I don't plan on making CBC a regular in my lunch rotation. read more

This was a nice change up from a Panera, but I think it's just as much of a rip off. I paid at least $9 for a half sandwich and the specialty edamame salad which was a scoop. (See the picture) Yah, it came with chips but I hardly think that makes up for the lack of food. I got the turkey sandwich on a pretzel bun. I love pretzel buns but this one was just ok. I do like the interior. It's very cozy but there is only one outlet so if you are coming in to use the free wi-fi and get some work done, expect to get creative to plug-in your laptop. I don't usually write reviews for chain restaurants (seen one, seen them all?!), but because I actually had an unusually great experience, I wanted to share. I'm more of a Panera fan. I've been to CB a number of times over the years in multiple states, but I'm never really thrilled with my entree. My husband received a free combo somehow, so we went to redeem. In doing so, they won me over with the panini I ordered. I'm not usually a fan of a bunch of grilled veggies slapped on a piece of bread. They're hard to eat, often soggy, and almost never have good flavor. Except, this was possibly the best panini vegetable sandwich I've ever had. And for those veggie AND meat lovers, I bet it would be excellent with a little turkey added on. I had the California Grille on Harvest bread. The veggies were all diced, grilled, and tossed in a pesto sauce and then panini-grilled with a slice of provolone. No sogginess here. I'm not kidding... it was exceptional. I ate every bite and was sad to see it was gone when I finished. It came with a pickle and potato chips for about $6.50. It wasn't much more expensive than I would've spent at a sandwich joint for the same thing with chips. I would definitely have that same sandwich again. My husband's combo was good as well-- a half turkey sandwich (with a hearty portion of bacon and avocado) along with a side tomato soup with homemade croutons and chips/pickle.
