Heather and I don't get to go out much, so when we do, we try to find new places to try. That's not a bad idea, but we sometimes forget the places we love. Tonight we stopped in to Corner Bistro to grab a drink. We didn't intend on eating there, but got to talking with the owner, Micky. After a while of talking about shared experiences we decided to eat there. We forgot why we love this place. The food is not only always great, but they make you feel special. Micky made the braciola himself, so tried it. It was great, as everything always is. However, he/they went way out of there way and decided to make our rare night out extra special. He threw down a checkered table cloth and a candle in a Chianti bottle and said it was for our "Italian dinner." Keep in mind, this isn't an Italian restaurant and the decor is modern/French bistro-ish. Everyone should come here at least once a week. Keep this local place going, please! We hosted a rehearsal dinner here at the end of May. We aren't from Delaware, so our son and daughter-in-law selected Corner Bistro because they had enjoyed dinners here. This has become our go to place in N. Wilmington. If fact, I almost hate to recommend it becuase hidden away, in the corner, so to speak, it is usually not over crowded. We love to sit at the bar and enjoy some wine, and simple, well thought out and well prepared meal. We drive by 11 "dining" chain restaurants to get there, and at the bar or table, we have never been dissapointed. If I had one suggestion, it woulld be to bring in a nudge higher cabernet to add to the wine list, even if it were bottle only. read more

My wife and I had a delightful meal. The cheese plate was great, well worth the price, with 3 cheeses, baguette, olives, grapes, fig, candied walnuts, blackberry and honey dip. I have not had very much luck with restaurants of any kind as of late, in either the quality of food or the caliber of service. This all changed today after having lunch at the Corner Bistro. We began with the cucumber and blood orange thyme margaritas which were both aromatic and flavorful. The names were catchy, but I cannot recall. My friend and I could not decide so we opted for the onion soup, and split the beet, chevre, arugula salad as well as the lobster and shrimp roll. The soup had some twists on the traditional, such as bacon, and gouda, which added a nice buttery flavor. The beet salad was a tiny bit overdressed for my taste, but I did not mind as the citrus dressing was delightful. The lobster shrimp "roll" was better on the brioche than the customary hot dog bun, and had a wonderfully fresh flavor of dill throughout. We finished with coffee and espresso and were each brought a freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookie. The service was outstanding. Lori L did it all. She was mixologist and server all wrapped up in one, and was incredibly attentive but in a ninja- like way so we didn't feel as if she was overbearing. It has been a while since I have been here, but I am going to need to change that. I give the total package an A +++. Had dinner with a friend on 12-30-2011. Our server, Clinton, was very nice and made a great wine recommendation. He brought out the bread and I when I put it in my mought to chew, I felt a hair so I spit it out since I knew it wasn't my hair. I asked my friend for his phone light and there was a blond hair in the middle of the piece of bread-baked in-yum! Called the server over, he took it away and brought new bread. I expected someone to come over to the table, like the manager or kitchen staff, but no one showed up. Got the bill and checked to see if something was comped, like a dessert or drink, but there was nothing. For the price and atmosphere, that was unacceptable and I would never eat there again. read more

i have been to the Bistro many times over the years and am always extremely pleased with the delicious and beautifully presented food. the service has been attentive and competent. i am writing about my disappointment with the renovation: the windowless back room is too austere!! no relief from the gray of the woodwork and the muted colors in the fabric on the banquettes. no pop of warm appetite-inducing color. the lighting fixtures are stunning. the bar stools and a few pillows in front are orange, but nothing of color in the back room. for me, it diminishes the fine dining experience. read more

Not very good. Took two guests to dinner. They said they enjoyed it but I think they were trying to humor me. The fettuccine in my Shrimp & Fettuccine was all dried out. Stick a fork in and pull all the fettuccine out at once. The drinks were small compared to most anywhere else. Even the waiter was embarrassed by the amount of liquid that came out of the cocktail shaker. You can get better food and drinks at Macaroni Grill of all places. read more

We had lunch at this restaurant today and were disappointed. OK, let's start with pluses: Inventive names of the dishes, ambience and an OK service. That's about it. Now the minuses: FOOD. We had roasted tomato and basil soup of the day, Cuban pulled pork sandwich and That salad. It looked like in all dishes they were trying to be creative but all these tries failed because something was missing. For example, the Cuban sandwich would be great if they would use a better quality of bread on it, or the soup would benefit from some crunchy ingredients like fresh sweet corn or at least you could feel the taste of basil instead of seeing boiled down to wilted color leaves in the soup. And we don't understand the conception of offering the soup or salad (as a lunch entrée) without putting some kind of bread on the table. BTW salad was a big disappointment. We've decided not to waste our money for dessert, but even descriptions of them were not tempting at all. In the end they still gave us chocolate chip cookies which were overly sweet and locking of flavor, so we thought our decision was right. I wonder where all the ravings come from??? read more

Where to begin? We went to meet friends we hadn't seen in a year. We had a 7 p.m. reservation but were kept waiting in the bar (which has no real waiting area) for twenty minutes. Fine. We were given menus that included specials but when we tried to order the "Dinner Plat" we were told they were out of it--at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. Fine. I ordered a steak medium rare because I needed something gluten-free. After a fairly long wait, they brought my steak. It was just past medium rare. Believe me, if I had it to do over again I'd have just eaten the damn thing, but I made the mistake of sending it back. After an interminable wait, I get a steak that is completely raw on the inside. I wait for my waiter so I can ask him to send this back, too, but he never shows up. Finally, I go talk to the hostess, who is very nice and says they'll see what they can do. Meanwhile, all my dinner companions have finished eating and I am having an attack of low blood sugar thanks to not having eaten a thing (they have very few real appetizers and no complimentary rolls, etc.). Now a guy comes to our table and says to me, "I'm confused." He's the owner. I tell him look, my first steak was overcooked. My second steak was undercooked. This is not confusing. Instead of trying to fix the problem, he gets into a big argument with me--at one point I honestly thought my husband was going to punch him--and finally I say, look, just forget it, I don't want any food and I'm never eating here again. He says he doesn't care. Now, in fairness, I finally ordered a nice risotto because I thought maybe they could get that to me quickly---wrong!--and the owner comped our entire check, but this was all a very unpleasant, insane experience that did not need to happen. It was a harmonic convergence of extremely poor service, a bait-and-switch specials menu, overcrowding, and the owner being a total jerk with the people skills of Gengis Khan. read more

Ate at Corner Bistro for dinner on a weekday with colleagues. I would say not to judge this place by its location: tucked away in the corner of a nondescript strip mall. The place is somewhat of a hidden gem; the food was rather good and the service was quick and very friendly. This establishment follows a farm-to-table motif, and the quality of its ingredients is noticeable, particularly in the vegetable lasagna and house salad that I ordered. The lasagna was a bit spicier than I would have liked, and although normally a fan of spicy food, I rather lasagna be more on the mild and creamy side. I would highly recommend the key lime pie...possibly one of the best slices of pie I've ever had. Overall, I anticipate returning, especially since I heard that the menu changes often and there were a number of other items I wanted to try. My only reservation was that I felt the prices were a bit high, but justifiable given the great experience. read more

This is an average place with average food. The portions are not very big so if you are a hefty eater like myself this is not the place for you. I first tried the dinner hour here a while back and was severely disappointed with the flatbread and salad I had ordered. The food was very bland and I was literally still hungry after my meal. I was convinced by the better half to try the lunch hour and we returned for another round of corner bistro. It started off badly as I was wearing a nice, freshly dry cleaned suit and when I placed the ultra cheap and beat up cloth napkin on my lap I was immediately covered in cheap napkins debris. Not a good start. I kept it simple and ordered the burger. I ordered it medium rare and it came out medium at best. The chef obviously doesn't know how to cook a burger medium rare, as is the case with many of the eateries in North Wilmington. Iron Hill Brewery is the only place in Wilmington to have cooked a beautiful medium rare burger around here. The fries that came with it were mediocre as was the service. For what you pay for you can get better quality and quantity for a better price elsewhere. I would not recommend it for the average hungry person. read more

Wonderful restaurant - I just wish it were closer to where we live. We were traveling and needed a place to have dinner, so found Corner Bistro as a "quiet" restaurant with good reviews on Yelp. It was about 5 miles off our route, but we are very glad we took the little detour. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside - almost hard to find but if you look for the giant neon scissors on the hair salon next door... When we walked in, however, the space and staff were welcoming. The wait staff was friendly, helpful, and present (without hovering), and suggested the salmon over risotto or the beef tips. I ordered the beef tips, served on a wide rectangular plate with the very tender and flavorful beef on one end, vegetables (string beans cooked properly) on the other, and some of the best (and most buttery) mashed potatoes I've ever had in between them. My son had the salmon/risotto and was nice enough to share - it was excellent (as were the beef tips). My wife has some food intolerances, and the kitchen gladly made some changes to the salmon dish to accommodate her. We didn't need dessert because we had a birthday cake in the car to eat at our destination, but the waitress brought 3 small, delicious cookies on a small plate with a candle for my son, the birthday boy (er...man - 25!). I don't give many 5-star reviews--only if there are no significant negatives and the experience is really great. Corner Bistro was such a place, and we'll find a way to be back even though it's 2+ hours from home... read more
