We ordered in last night and this place was REALLY good. We had the Yangzhou Chow Mein, Mongolian beef, egg drop soup, sweet and sour chicken, pork egg rolls. Everything was super fresh and delicious with the exception of the egg rolls. They were a bit bland and greasy. I was craving for Chinese food while staying at the hotel, so I used Grub Hub and ordered online. Food was big portions, I ordered shrimp fried rice, garlic pepper wings and shrimp chow fun. They were all very delicious, big shrimp on both orders, chicken wings are huge. The only complaint is no soy sauce or hot sauce included. Blamed driver when it's obvious soup was not packaged correctly as they use to with cling wrap. Awful customer service. I haven't gone here because the name didn't scream out "Chinese food" but I'm glad I gave it a try! I'm right around the corner and was craving some fried rice and boba tea! The mango snow was life. I've been craving it ever since! The fried rice was golden and delicious and all our dishes were spot on. I hate that it's around the corner from me because I may get fat lol. I was so disappointed in this place. I was excited about a 4 star yelp rated Chinese take-out restaurant in the neighborhood which, on a side note I had driven past many times and never realized it was a Chinese restaurant. Corner Cafe sounds like a coffee shop or deli. Maybe when this is under new ownership and they rebrand it they should include something in the name to indicate it's Chinese food like Beijing Corner Cafe? Mandarin Corner Cafe? But I digress. The food was awful. I got orange chicken, it had no sauce on it which I imagine provides the flavor since the dry orange chicken I got was like eating styrofoam. Even the white rice was sub par, like maybe it has been sitting around for a couple of days drying out. The chow mein was completely bland. Everything I ate was unseasoned...I guess I can add soy sauce but then it would all just taste like soy sauce. Why not salt the chicken a little before breading and cooking it? Basic things I would expect a restaurant to know or do. Once I got home I realized there were no chop sticks in the bag, which isn't a huge deal but speaks to the fact that they don't pay attention to details like utensils, napkins and salt. Details separate good restaurants from bad ones. This food was similar to Panda Express but twice the price. I don't think I will go back. When everything was so bad it's hard to imagine it was a one-off night. I will say the guy at the counter who took my order was very friendly which is why there's two stars. Not that it's a necessity but places like this usually provide fortune cookies and as corny as that is, it's sort of a traditional Chinese take out thing that's nostalgic and fun. Corner Cafe doesn't provide those, or maybe they just didn't when I came, it's another indication that details aren't their strong suit. The bottom line is that the food is not good. read more

it's been hard to find good chinese food in san diego but we tried this place tonight and very impressed. i got the garlic shrimp and veggies and it had a lot of flavor and they use big shrimp (not the tiny ones). my boyfriend got the combo chow mein and he loved it too! also, the garlic edamame were super garlic-y just the way i like them!!! the guy who helped us at the front was extremely kind and helpful. we will definitely be back! read more

Business that just opened two weeks ago. This was our first visit and both my husband and I were very satisfied with the great fresh flavor and price. Just didnt like my food. Kung pao shrimp was cooked perfectly but it wasnt a sauce. I think they just tossed the shrimp with some spoonfuls of chili garlic sauce. I took a couple of bites but just hated it shrimp also tasted a little off.wasnt going to risk it. . Pork eggrolls were cooked right- nice and crispy but had the weirdest, unpleasant taste. Had 1 and couldnt even get thru the 2nd one. The bright spot was special combo pan fried noodles that arent on the menu that i asked them to make for me. Good balance of crispy and soft noodles. We've been coming to Corner Cafe since they opened. Our last (maybe literally) was on Saturday 02/22/20. I'm not sure if it was a different cook or maybe an off-night (?), but the quality of food didn't meet expectation. We only ordered 2 favorite items from them. Combo Fried Rice and Orange Chicken. Combo Fried rice was delicious, but had golf-ball sized clumps of white rice that wasn't incorporated. I think our main disappointment came from the orange chicken. While their OC is usually light, tangy, with a great crispness, it wasn't this night. The chicken breading was soggy and the whole dish tasted vinegar-y. The side white rice was also raw :( It's really disappointing when these great neighborhood restaurants start raising prices and let the quality go. So this 3-star review is an average of the once 4-star, now 2-star experience. read more

The chow mein wasn't bad but also not worth 14-15 dollars it lacked a bit of more flavor. The Korean wings it was all breading and shouldn't even be considered wings at all!!! The egg drop soup was barely okay and I asked the young man up in the front if he had chili oil but said they don't even carry it. Welp that a first for an Asian restaurant most always carry chili oil or offer some type of sauces. The restaurant itself was okay, the restaurant could have been cleaner but I do remember the glass doors upon enter were absolutely filthy!!!! I would give this place 4 or 5 stars for the food, which is pretty good. However, I have to say this in the nicest way...the young man who always works here tries to overcharge me by $1-$2 every single time I come here for the "lunch specials" which end up costing more than if I came here after 2:30pm and paid cash. Today he charged me nearly $20 for 2 items which were $7.99 and $8.99. Do the math. If this happens again, I will stop coming here. It is insulting to offer customers cash discounts and lunch "specials" if you are then going to overcharge them and not offer a receipt. Annoying. I hope the food is decent today, their white rice has been consistently dry and I won't order their chicken again (too dry). I hope this place succeeds but it is up to them. read more
