Shrimp didn't feel too fresh. Eggrolls 4/5 - Crunchy and well fried but they are a little small for pricing. Filet Pho 4/5 - Pretty good Pho for broth but didn't have as much meat as I thought, more noodles than anything but overall definitely still good. Service 3/5 - nothing special, had to ask for refills but wasn't horrible. Just average service. Seating 5/5 plenty of seating, it's not usually packed. My favorite pho in Hillcrest, by far. The service is so fast that even when I do takeout, I barely have to wait more than 10 mins. Their chicken and vegetable combo is my favorite. They are very generous with their protein size. I love eating there, too, because they have quick service, a small simple restaurant, where they focus on their food. It is cozy and they have space for large groups. Parking is tough in Hillcrest but I just get there early and walk a couple blocks. Their spring rolls with peanut sauce are also delicious! I came here with some family after their flight landed in the late evening. This was one of the only Vietnamese spots in SD near the airport that was open pretty late to accommodate us. Most of my family got the Pho which when I tasted the broth it was ok. This was actually one of the most disappointing Bo Luc Luc (shaken beef) meals I have ever had. The meat was cut up into super small cubes that you really couldn't taste any meat in a single bite. Because they were cut up so small as well it felt overcooked and burnt. Even the onions were bigger than the meat portions. They are open till 10pm which is great but parking is a bit tough as it's just street parking. There is a paid lot nearby but given that you have to go through the trouble is not worth it in my opinion to come here. If I lived in the area this would be a nice place to walk by and grab pho if I'm craving it but again this isn't a place I would consider worth going out of the way for. Prices are pretty high for Vietnamese food considering that the portions are smaller than usual. The area makes it more pricey as well. We arrived at 8:50 PM, and both the restaurant's website and the sign outside clearly state that they close at 10:00 PM. The sign at the entrance said, "Please wait to be seated," so we waited patiently for about six minutes while the restaurant had only around six occupied tables. Instead of greeting us, a staff member shouted from across the restaurant, "We're only taking to-go orders, not dine-in." I explained that they were still open until 10:00 PM and that we wanted to eat there. She replied that she was the only one working and that it would take about 30 minutes before she could even take our order. We told her we didn't mind waiting because we understood she was busy, but she still refused to seat us. This isn't the employee's fault alone--it's a management issue. If the owner knew customers were being turned away over an hour before closing because there wasn't enough staff scheduled, I don't think they would be happy about it. Very disappointing experience and poor customer service. If your posted hours say you're open until 10:00 PM, customers should either be served or clearly informed that the kitchen closes earlier. The reason we ate there is that it is the only pho place open until 10 p.m., while most pho restaurants in the area close at 9 p.m. We arrived around 9 p.m., and there were still six tables with customers dining. We ordered the Char-Grilled Shrimp Paste on Sugar Cane Rolls ($9), which were really delicious. The P4 Pho Tai Tau Gan Sach ($17, large) was good and had a big portion, which I couldn't finish. I should have ordered the regular size for $15 instead of the large. All the meats--beef, fatty brisket, flank, tendon, and tripe--were very good. The only issue was that the noodles weren't hot enough and were hard to separate. The P1 Pho Dac Biet ($18) was also good. The only difference between P1 and P4 is that P1 includes meatballs, while P4 does not. The service was good and quick. We will definitely visit again whenever we're in San Diego. read more

Our server had informed us that they offered a larger bowl, another size up for $21. Our dish was delicious and generously portioned (grilled chicken and pork). We were on vacation and in the San Diego area. We decided to go to Pho Fifth Avenue to dine in for their pho. We got there after 4 pm, however was told we can only order take out. All the tables were open, however no customers. This was the closet location to our hotel that was open later in the night, so I came here to pick up some to-go to eat back at the hotel. Parking is this neighborhood is not easy to find. It smelled really good. The restaurant is on the smaller size for seating, but there was a bench you could sit on while waiting for your to-go order. The girl who took my order was nice and friendly. My food came out in a very timely manner. I was craving rice, so I ordered the Fifth Avenue rice special which came with 7 items (grilled pork, grilled shrimp, sugar cane shrimp, chicken, meatloaf, shredded pork, lettuce, cucumber, pickled carrots & daikon, and fish sauce. My brother wanted the same thing but the vermicelli rice noodle version. Each dish was $21and I initially thought that was expensive... but when I received my order, it was really heavy! When I opened it, it was loaded!! Each order was plenty of food for 2! In our case, we had enough left over to eat it another day. So it was actually a pretty good price! Everything tasted delicious! I enjoyed eating all the different meats. Everything had good flavor to it and my meal completely filled me up! I would come back here because I really enjoyed the food and the price was on point, but the main thing is parking in the area. Terrible. Waste of time. Avoid!!!! I went your way about 15 minutes to be seated. The j37k at the counter refused to clean a table so I could sit. When a party came in after me I asked them to pretend if they were with me before they picked up their order, and to make sure that I was seated before they left because I wasn't sure that I would be refused service. They did this, and when he realized that I was alone and I'm with him, he became very angry and called me a liar. He brought my soup out. It was about half. The size is everyone else's bowls. When he came out, I said to him " I was just wondering why my bowl is smaller than everyone else's". He told me that I was rude and impatient, and that he wouldn't not answer me, and he walked away. The mans is always craving pho and with me always down for some pho, we came here for a late lunch. The place was pretty spacious. The bathroom was so tucked away in the back it felt like a journey getting there lolol. The service was very lax, I think you can easily sit and chill for a bit, and they wouldn't mind. I had to add more lime to balance out the flavors, but I love that their wedges are so squeezable compared to other pho places'. AND they offer sauce dishes as part of their utensils self serve counter, which is something I am always needing but it's never conveniently available like that. I also thought I was still going to be hungry after reading reviews on the small bowl, but the small actually got me feeling stuffed! The Large Pho Dac Biet ($16), aka the #1, was ok to me. I tried their beef, and they were dry. I had a piece that had too much fat and too tough to chew, that it became a waste.
