This place isn't that hard to find, but it is definitely a hole in the wall. Literally, a concrete hole in the wall (last time I went, which was months ago). But don't let that fool you...they have fabulous cupcakes...in my opinion some of the best in town (which can be considered a bold statement, as there are many cupcake-ries in b-field). Last time I went we got a medley of cupcakes...red velvet and some others (sorry, it was awhile ago). I remember the cupcakes being of good quality and having good proportions of frosting:cupcake...there was still a bit more frosting for my liking but definitely manageable (other places tend to pile high the frosting, which is a BIG MISTAKE. it totally throws off the balance of flavors when you take a bite). Like I said, it's a tiny store, and I think they have a strong focus in catering, doing corporate events and private parties. That being said, be sure to get there early rather than later in the day, so you have a better selection of goodies to choose from. read more

I got a red velvet, a chocolate and a banana-peanut butter cupcake as well as a dense chocolate brownie. I'm not a connoisseur of cupcakes, but I'd say I was a fan. I found Gimmee Some Sugar when I was searching for a bakery for my wedding cake. I was very disappointed with the bakery I had been recommended to. So I got on google and found Gimmee Some Sugar. Based on their wonderful website, I knew they would have no problem making my wedding cake. Now for the taste... I tasted at least 10 different flavors but hands down their white cake is unbelievable, the absolute best in Bakersfield. They also offered fillings I couldn't refuse. They have specialty cupcakes with candy bar flavors. I had an entire candy bar flavored cake. Each tier was a different candy bar filling (butterfinger, almond joy, snickers, and heath bar). I brought in a picture of a cake I wanted and they replicated it perfectly! The taste was amazing and I was receiving so many compliments! Just to top it all off (as if they couldn't get any better), I ordered a grooms cake. Each consultation was over the phone with Stephanie herself. I trusted her to create my vision. My husband loves to play Craps and so I thought this would be perfect. The cake came out better than I ever could have expected. I've been to cupcake bakeries all over and no Sprinkle's or Susie's or Magnolia cupcake can compare to this bakery!!! I've had the red velvet and marble. The cake is moist beyond explanation and the after taste aroma of vanilla lingers on your tongue. The frostings for the marble cupcake taste almost like rich fudge pudding. Holy Moly.... Oh Browned Butter Almond Blondie Bar, how do I describe thee? First of all I couldn't wait to get home, I unwrapped one of my bars right there in my car! I went to take the first bite and the smell hit first, so warm and scrumptious..... then the taste, sweet but not overly so and the browned butter taste comes through perfectly. Our least favorite cupcakes I've ever bought Went in for my son to pick out his Birthday Cupcake, staff was very nice and all the goodies looked yummy. My son chose the confetti cupcake, it was really dry with a grainy type of texture to it. Not good at all, my son took one bite and walked away. Me and my husband chose the vanilla cupcake, cake tasted better but something about the frosting was off and it was extremely sweet and thick. I do have a sweet tooth and love everything sweet so I was really surprised by the flavor, I even took most of the frosting off. None of us finished our cupcakes, which never happens. I'm not an expert on these things but this is some of the best stuff I have had, and I have had a lot.... my waist line can a test to that. By far one of the best pastry shops in town. Lucky for me I was introduced to Gimme Some Sugar after being the lucky winner of a dream wedding giveaway in 2013. The wedding included a 3 teer cake of our choice and to this day people are still ranting and raving over how amazing our cake was! After being sent home with 6 different cupcakes to taste test we decided to go with the red velvet. How could we not, it is by far the red velvet we have ever had!! Customer service was also fabulous! Stephanie worked one on one with us to ensure we had the wedding cake of our dreams. The cupcakes from Gimmee Some sugar are absolutely the best, they leave you dreaming about the next one before you are even done with the first. I am gluten free and you would never guess that the cupcake was gluten free, simply amazing. I typically remove the frosting from cupcakes due to the it being overly sweet, but the frosting at Gimmee Some Sugar is just perfect. I am so totally disappointed in the wedding cake that I ordered for my son's wedding. The bride and I went with pictures, which we left with the gal at the bakery, showing what she wanted on her cake. It was a winter wedding, so she wanted a cake that reflected winter. We asked for some snowflakes and dripping snow and a glittery look (which, I know because I have some, can be achieved using edible glitter.) What we got was a cake that was the wrong color, with a few measly snowflakes made out of what looked and tasted like a cheap white almond bark, some balls around the bottom of the layers, and some clear sugar crystals, which you couldn't even see, sprinkled about. It was the most unattractive $200 cake I have ever seen. I could have almost overlooked that if the cake even tasted halfway good. It was a white cake with the only discernible taste being cardboard. No vanilla taste AT ALL. And the buttercream frosting was awful. Again, they must have run out of vanilla extract, OR ANY EXTRACT, because it tasted like powdered sugar and cheap margarine. Do yourself a favor, don't follow the good reviews of this shop. They must be either flukes or written by fake customers. If I could demand my money back, I would! As it is, all I can do is tell the truth and warn others. read more
