My wife and I were craving a pastry and decided to stop by. The place has a lot of natural light, a welcoming environment. All of the pastries looked delicious as there were many to choose from. We decided to go with a guava pastry and another that the lady behind the counter said the inside was a brownie, so we decided to go with that. Guava pastry was delicious, although when we got to the "brownie" pastry there was no brownie. The lady did mention she was new, although the pastry we ended up with was mainly peanut butter, big difference. I know what it's like to be new, but it's always best to ask for help when in doubt. I did ask if there was a pricing menu for all of the pastries, I prefer to have a heads up of pricing before ordering and the lady said they didn't have one. A nice little spot with fresh baked goods that are amazing! The menu and selections are quite large and most items are on display for you to see and choose! The worker at the front was very nice and helpful. She was able to box our order fast and explain what several items were! Bread and Honey has been around for awhile, and a few years ago when I was pregnant I was a regular. Like weekly, sometimes 2x a week! Now my daughter is almost 2 and it is a long drive, so we really havent been going that much. Recently I stopped in during a work break and was able to purchase a bunch of pastries. I noticed quite a bit of the space had changed. The entry doors are opposite and there seems to be more seating. The pastry cases moved slightly. I was helped by someone super patient because it was difficult getting answers from my coworkers on what they want quickly. He was very chill. It was close to closing so I was glad for that kindness. The pastries look mostly the same, changed maybe style a little bit and a few more in variety. He mentioned that the business had been bought out by new people. I was happy to see they tweaked it just enough to put their twist on it without taking away all the things I love about this place. I really enjoyed my blueberry cream cheese danish. Wanted some good coffee and dessert on a Saturday afternoon so we decided to stop by here since we haven't been here and reviews seemed pretty decent. As soon as you come in, you are welcomed by displays of different desserts and donuts. They also have a coffee menu posted with some seasonal drinks. We ordered a couple of desserts since we thought they go well with coffee. Our coffees, unfortunately, were such a letdown. There was not enough caffeine and our drinks tasted a bit bland. I've been in here a few times, and I've had some really good pastries, So I decided to buy a cake from them for a dinner we were invited to. The host asked specifically for a Tres leches cake. I drove about 45 minuetes just to get this cake. I could of gone to Vallarta and probably gotten a better cake. I have NEVER had a dry tres leches cake before until I tried this one. I didn't even know if it was tres leches or just a a white cake. The cake was around $55 I was very disappointed. I wouldn't recommend buying a cake here. We were looking for something new and Bread & Honey came across my Yelp app. The lunch menu showed sandwiches. This worked perfectly before running some afternoon errands. The place was easy to find. There was plenty of parking. They have some outside tables, but we ate inside. The turkey and avocado sandwich sounded good. We ordered it with fries. Our server was efficient. They split the plate for us. This is a good-sized sandwich, and the perfect filled us up. The soda fountain lemonade was delicious. These were some of the tastiest fries I've had in some time. Crunchy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. The place was spotless and well kept. There a dessert counter that is irresistible. We'll have to return. So my first thoughts of this place when I walked in was "What a disaster!" All the tables were dirty and the staff just seem unorganized. Disclaimer I gave this place a 3-star because of the cleanliness and disorganization. The food is what saved this place from a totally horrible review. I got the chorizo breakfast burrito and it was delicious and so was my glass of orange juice. Now if you get the breakfast burrito you must get a side of gravy with it! You can thank me later! My burrito was on some next level type sh!t lol. My advice to the owner a little bit of focus on the over all cleanliness of the place and it will go a long way. I was informed that "one day they just stopped making it" and that they no longer serve those items. It would be nice if such enticing pictures were removed if the item were no longer sold there. The first time we went here it was really good 10/10! They informed us they had just sold the location and it was under new ownership. Fast forward a month later 4/10/26 we decided to stop by. First, they took Forever to help us and there was not that many people in line. We bought the mini cheesecakes and a " 3 leches cake" . The cheesecakes tasted like they dipped in modeling chocolate from Michael's and had an artificial flavor. The "3 leches cake" was the worst cake we have ever tried. It was dry and not moist at ALL! You know, I would keep the five star on here for the actual pastries but every time I've come in here, I have dealt with customer service issues. One time I went in and somebody was rude this time coming in and they are shortstaffed. Today I wanted to make multiple purchases for lots of pastries because it's my boyfriend's birthday. I had waited so long in line that I just wanted one cheesecake slice. I no longer had the time to ask what things were and I no longer had the time to wait to even pick anything else out. If there had been someone else working, I would've purchased quite a bit. I guess helps my diet. But it doesn't help the business not making sales. I find it interesting that Bakersfield had these cafes that are full service restaurants. Works for me cause I was hunger for a complete meal anyhow. Rolled in on a Monday afternoon, place was empty, but the crowd rolled in primarily at 4pm! I sat outside which could use some ceiling fans, but was nice. Server came out and super friendly. I gone fish tacos which were delish! The perfect garnish combo and good size serving. I opted out of the beans and rice and copped me some tater tots. My iced lavender latte was more pretty than it was tasty, but still enjoyed. Perfect lunch for mua. They clearly specialize in baked goods as well. She ordered the Very Berry Salad while I had the Turkey Pesto Cold Sandwich with Truffle Fries. As we awaited our order, we had a complimentary sample of the marble bread loaf. It was yummy and definitely had me excited to take a look at the pastries. The Turkey Pesto Sandwich was great! I usually prefer hot sandwiches rather than cold ones; However, the pesto was perfect. It didn't make the bread soggy and it was complimented by the tomato and mozzarella. The Truffle Fries had the perfect crunch, but I wish the truffle flavor was a bit stronger -- Delicious, nonetheless. The Very Berry Salad was colorfully packed with strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, grapes, walnuts, and feta on a bed of spring greens. Every bite was sweet and refreshing. Stopped by for a brunch with my wife and a friend from out of town. It wasn't very busy when we arrived. Since the day was nice we opted to sit outside after receiving our menus. They came, took our drink order and we chatted away. Turns out they forgot we were outside for a good 15 minutes and I had to go in and ask if we needed to come inside to order. The staff apologized profusely. Placed our order and continued catching up. The food arrived and it was good. Nothing to write home about. I had subbed my fried chicken sandwich with a grilled breast but it arrived fried. They did fix it for me. My wife's salad was ok. I really wanted to like this place the pastries and cakes look absolutely beautiful and tempting in the display. But unfortunately, they didn't taste as fresh as they looked. The cake slices and cake pop I tried were both on the dry side, like they'd been sitting out all day. For what you pay, I was expecting better quality or at least fresher items. The brownie I got was stale, and the cheesecake had an unsettling taste--almost like freezer ice. We did get a drink, and it was actually really good, but unfortunately the food didn't measure up. Customer service was just okay; while the staff member was polite, it would've been nice if she had shown the same attentiveness she gave to other customers. So yesterday I called Honey&Bread to order a cake at 1:26 pm for Sunday to pick up at 2 on Sunday. The person that answered was rude from the word go, all she kept saying "you have to drive down here to order the cake" she almost sounded like AI, she would not even tell me the flavors they had, without knowing if they had a strawberry cake why would I drive down from central Bakersfield to Panama Ln. So I called back about 2 hours later I was going to ask to speak to a manager, I can't believe everyone drives down from where ever they are in Bakersfield just to order the cake, does H&B not realize the gas prices consumers are facing, I'm a senior with limited income. When I called back spoke to Nicky and this was a whole different experience, I was given all the info needed in a pleasant voice answered all my questions and was helpful. What I didn't say at the beginning is that I have ordered from H&B before and have never been told I have to come to the business in person and order the cake so I can pay for it in person. Apparently some employees will allow you to order the cake on the phone and others won't either do to their training or I guess if they just want to make it difficult or there busy and they want you just to get off the phone. When businesses first open they will give you the stars and the moon to get your business then once they have it or enough business they do not care how they treat you, I was going to order the cake from there after all but then when I was given the price to put it on my credit care the priced from 80 dollars to 90 dollars because I'm using a credit card, first of all I'm going to call the Federal Trade Commission or who ever I have to call and find out what banks are charging businesses that take credit cards I want to know if it's a certain percentage and when I find out on Monday I will update my post I believe businesses are charging what is required and then tacking on more, to be continued!!!! Matcha alert! Another spot that makes a matcha that isn't full of sugar and is absolutely delicious! They separately sweeten their matcha so you can get it earthy and pure! It was absolutely delicious! They've also got a wide variety of sweet pasteries in the case in addition to their sit down menu full of a wide variety of cafe classics. Back again! This place is so good. Had the steak sandwich, and it was so good. The meat was perfectly cooked with the right amount of pink in the middle. There is so much care and quality put into each element of the sandwich and I could taste it. The meat was tender the sauces were perfectly balanced and the pickled onions added the right amount of acid. I also got the truffle fries. The best truffle fries I have had. The fries were hot and crispy. Every fries was crispy. Not a single one was soggy or under cooked. The truffle flavors were not overwhelming, but noticable. So good. Quantity versus quality... they offer a wide variety of poorly made food. I have been there a number of times and the juice is not worth the squeeze. Today I got oreo Brownies that were over baked and dry (me and my children only ate the top), the macrons were deflated, needed flavor correction and inconsistent in size. The staff doesn't know the menu and gave me the wrong baked good togo. Everything is over priced and when you eat there overall it is disappointing. Everything is bright and picture ready. Too bad the instagram menu doesn't match the reality. Be a location that creates a dish that you become known for not a place that creates a bunch of items that you can be forgotten for. It was my first time trying this place and I will definitely be back again sometime! Their tuna melt was amazing and a hefty portion as well. It tasted fresh and had a good filling to bread ratio. The mac and cheese was delicious and I feel like the value of the meal was good considering how much it came with. The pastries on display looked beautiful and I picked out the lemon mascarpone cake. The flavors were good however it was a bit stale, I can imagine that it would taste really good if it was fresh and wasn't sitting out for a long time. My daughter & I try out a new local bakery weekly, and this week we decided to try out Bread & Honey. First, the cafe is very cutely decorated inside and patio. Second, we were greeted promptly and decided on the tiramisu and biscoff cheesecake. The person helping us was very kind and very informative of the bakery. He explained that everything was baked in house including all the dough. We loved this and allllll of the desserts looked AMAZING! Upon trying the tiramisu it was absolutely delicious and hands down possibly the best tiramisu I have ever have had. The lady fingers soaked in espresso mixed with the cream frosting...good lord...as the kids say now it ate and left no crumbs. Same could be said for the Biscoff Cheesecake! Holy moly!
