Went on Saturday, November 4 for the bakery goods and my friend and I was so pleasantly surprised of the taste of the cinnamon roll... so yummy. We took a few assorted flavors of scones to go and also have no complaints. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming which was the case for all the shops in this little town. Driving south on I-5 and pulled off in this adorable little town. Surprised at a nice selection of bakery goods. We got muffins and a breakfast scone. The muffin was loaded and the scone was like a full breakfast with bacon, cheese and spinach. Very good caramel latte, they grind Peet's beans. read more

Went to our usual breakfast spot today but they were so busy they had no tables. Decided to try The Cornerstone which WAS our go-to breakfast spot in the past but we had not gone in for quite some time, since they changed ownership. Wow! We were very surprised by the fantastic service, thanks to Barry and owner Deb. Service is not something you are likely to find very often in the area so that was amazing! VERY friendly and efficient. The menu retains most of the best options from the old and extensive menu, and hooray! The harvest muffins are still there! We shared an Applewood Bacon omelet and a Belgium Waffle with fresh berries. The food was excellent, and the coffee kept flowing. Food was served in record time, hot and delicious. We took a menu to add to our B&B binder for our guests. A great spot in Dunsmuir! Give them a try! read more

Many of us have fave dishes that we order to gauge how good a restaurant is. For me, that's a Cobb salad. The Cornerstone's version is REALLY great. Plenty of smoky fresh bacon and avocado, for a reasonable price ($13, I think). Great atmosphere, excellent service, too. Highly recommend! read more

Every time I go there I am more impressed with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. I've previously had the nut burger and the veggie sandwich, and yesterday I had the portabella mushroom sandwich. It was really, really, really good. If I owned this business, I would change the order of the words describing this cafe', as the cooking is primo and utterly delicious. A friend and I were returning from Oregon to the Bay Area and happened on this place as we were hungry and decided to stop for lunch during a quick detour of the highway. We both agree this is a "go to" place from now on. The service was excellent, the food was innovative, fresh, and delicious. The menu was unbelievably long and it took us about ten minutes and a long chat with our server before we settled on our choices. I had a veggie omelet special which was chock full of fresh flavorful veggies. The bread was fresh baked too. We shared a slice if their peanut butter pie and couldn't believe how delicious it was. The ambience was great too--it's an older very quaint place. My friend and I both joked that we'd like to move to Dunsmuir and try everything on their menu! read more

I had lunch here with my sweetheart yesterday. The Cornerstone is a cute little restaurant situated in the heart of old Dunsmuir. An aging Railroad town that has immeasurable potential, but is a little remote. It has a rich history. The town suffered a horrific chemical spill from the Union Pacific Railroad about ten years ago, and killed off a lot of the tourism that help to keep the town afloat. Kinda sad. FYI, they cleaned up the spill and the town is safe, so don't freak out about the spill. Union Pacific paid dearly. About lunch: My gal ordered the Portabello mushroom sandwich and I had the Turkey. Both were delicious. We also ordered the fries and theirs are a step above the rest. You can tell they are homemade, with skins left on, which I like, and fried twice so they get that crisp dark golden brown texture on the outside, but soft on the inside, and for me the size is just right: think a lot bigger than IN n Out, but not huge like steak fries. My turkey sandwich had fresh turkey on it, NOT packaged. Instead of getting it on the suggested whole wheat bread, I asked for their Foccacia. The waitress, who was nice and friendly, said no problem. It came with a side of cranberry relish, NOT, jelly, and was a nice accompaniment to my sandwich. My sandwich was moist and tender and the bread was delicious. It was a little big to eat, but I managed to finish half, and then took the other half with me. But I have to say, I ordered the wrong thing. My gal's protabello mushroom sandwich was delicious. Juicy and tender with gooey cheese, and toasted just right. OMG, when I go back there I'm getting that. She is a Mt. Shasta local and knows what to order and I should have just had it instead. Oh well. And mind you, my sandwich was really really good. But hers was BOMB! This place is definitely worth getting off of I-5 on your way up or down your trip through this part of California. You will not be disappointed. I promise. Ciao for now. This place is a little gem! The food is always delicious, especially the Eggs Benedict on Sunday. And treat yourself to one of their amazing Harvest Muffins. The best muffin I have ever had! Just had the grilled three cheese sandwich with mushrooms and onions. Omg. Incredible! My friend had the special. A grilled turkey, bacon, avocado and provolone sandwich with their amazing fries. We were on our way to Sunriver Oregon and googled a place to eat on my Iphone (when AT&T wasn't' dropping my calls that is) and found this place. Already had coffee so cant' comment on that but it looked like they could make all the great drinks. Also they have fresh local fish everyday for lunch. read more

Always our favorite breakfast stop when traveling down I5. Husband had a delicious applewood smoked bacon, spinach, cheese, tomato and green onion omelette with properly cooked hash browns, side of fruit and their wonderful house baked Harvest muffin. His cappuccino was excellent. I chose the "Veggie Reds," an outstanding hearty dish of red potatoes with a lovely assortment of lightly sautéed, well seasoned vegetables, sliced avocado, served with a side of fresh pesto. This used to be our 5 star breakfast place. Now i am pushing it at 3 starz. I am giving it 3 starz in hopes it was just a bad day. And i guess 2 of their oldest wait staff had quit...one that morning ( not nice ). It took us 20 minutes to get waited on and over 40 before we got out food. In the past we would have been done eating in 40 minutes. Waitress was nice and apologized. The hostess was great and really doing her best to cover for the shortage. Food: We noticed a price bump so were disappointed with the quality hit. My wife loved the Shasta omelet...my Amore omelet was ok...not as much salmon and missing the sour cream on top with a sprig of dill. My daughters California omelet was good. The potatoes were both over done and not done...like someone mixed an older batch with a newer not done batch. We never got the bacon so we had her take it off the bill. My sons to go order was missing the syrup ....and the toast was like it was a day old and cold. Coffee seemed to be much weaker than normal. Another waitress asked how was everything at the end as we were leaving and i said it was ok with a sour look on my face...she was taken a back a bit and said...oh bummer and walked away. The young hostess came over and asked me again. I told her the same...she at least was interested in why it was just ok and apologized. So we have been going here for 6 years+ and never have had this before...always was a great experience. Makes me a bit afraid to go back. When i pay $14.50 for an omelet breakfast i expect it to be good. Not sure we will be going back. read more

Sadly, the previous owners have passed the torch to a new owner. This bakery used to be the best restaurant in town for breakfast, lunch, or even a quick bite to eat on the run. Their focaccia bread used to be our weekend treat, and now it's just a disappointment. It's lacking the yummy olive oil, saltiness, and also the correct baking temperature...a little brown for our taste. The atmosphere has changed from comfortable, warm, and inviting to cold and boring. All of our favorite waitresses have moved on to better things, and we miss them dearly. We can no longer recommend this place to people coming through our little town. We suggest trying the Wheelhouse, or La Perla De Neyarit. read more

Best breakfast stop on I5 between the Oregon border and potentially Sacramento... we used to stop in Shasta City at the Black Bear, but it's gone down hill every year and takes too long. Dunsmuir is a cute little railroad town that's trying hard to turn itself into a boutique tourist stop, though it's only halfway there. The eggs, bacon, hot chocolate and coffee were excellent. Pancakes looked like they were Krusteaz, but pancakes are pancakes and my kids just use them as sponges for syrup, anyway. The service was quick and very friendly, but the place is as welcoming to those who want to come in and out as to those that want to linger over their coffee. read more

We are locals and eat there many times. It's recently changed hands and you can sure tell. When we walked in some guy standing there said to take a seat,there were no waitress around so we sat at a booth. Waitress came by with menus and coffee pretty quick....as she walked away her perfume stayed at our table. I think that NO food service should wear any kind of perfume, it makes me want to get up and walk out. A table had a small boy sitting there by himself,one of the employs brought tbeir child, he got loud a few times cuz the cook was in the back and would check.on him from time to time and played with some very annoying toy. Then brought us some one else's food even tho there were only a cpl of tables with customers. The food was good but I'm not very impressed with the new staff...too bad read more

INCREDIBLE! I loved the food. I cant tell you what an absolute treat it was to eat here after eating at Lilys in Mt. Shasta. The food was spectacular. We had Ricotta Stuffed Strawberry French Toast. When you are staying in small town over Christmas, you expect to be scrounging for decent food. This cafe changed all of that. Not only is the food top-rate, but they were open Christmas Eve morning, so we could eat and get some take-out bakery items for the following day when they were closed. The food is delicious--I had the Cajun scramble and the Portobello omelette, which came with a side of potatoes, hash browns, or steamed spinach (yes!), and toast made from bread baked right there in the bakery. Everything was amazing. We got a cinnamon roll with pecans and icing to go, and it was to die for. I was blown away at the quality and variety of the food here, and the service was friendly and fast to boot. No more stopping to eat in Weed on our trips up I-5. Was there this morning at 11:34 for breakfast. We were four mins too late so ended up having to get lunch. Food was good, but service was disorganized and unimpressive. Be prepared for it to take 30 mins more than you'd expect. Four tables full in the place. Employees walking all around, yet refills weren't done in a timely fashion, bathroom needed cleaning and took forever for waitstaff to bring ticket. Improvements could be made. read more

Stopped here in Dunmuir for lunch, this café seemed like the only working café in town that looked appealing. The name fits, as it is on a corner. Street parking. Atmosphere was ok, a lot of pricey art work of fish hanging for sale on the walls but this town is known for fishing. Food was tasty and reasonable. I had a tuna salad on lettuce. It was sort of messy, probably not ordered much. My hubby had a hamburger, he liked it. He also ordered the ice tea which was really tasty. read more

This is only my second restaurant review ever, but I was so disappointed that I felt I needed to do it. New ownership last May. First glass of water served with something floating in the water and a dirty glass. Utensils had to be returned for new ones because server noticed they were dirty. I ordered a California omelet which was almost all egg, and very few additional ingredients. Hash browns were obviously the frozen variety, burned on the outside and mushy inside. I love hash browns, but could only eat a few bites. Toast was cold, and fruit was unripened melon with 2 grapes. My husband ordered a breakfast burrito which he liked, but his Cappuccino was very weak. The server was friendly, so we tipped our usual 20%, but will not return. read more
