Love the ambience at Cornerstone, bright and friendly with big tables that aren't too close together. The food was delicious at breakfast and the menu had a lot to offer. Shout out to the polenta side, the hash browns and the breakfast wrap. The service left something to be desired but I still recommend this place for a fantastic meal at a reasonable price in charming downtown Dunsmuir. read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way from Moorpark, CA to Chiliquin, Oregon. My family and I will stop here anytime we are passing by. The food was DELICIOUS! I had the Nut Burger Melt and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Had a refreshing light beer with tangerine on tap. Quick service and friendly waitress. No wonder they have an "A" rating in the window. My daughter had the veggie sandwich on foccacia bread which she LOVED. The foccacia bread was so fresh and good, we stopped by this cafe on our way back home to pick up a few loaves of it. I will tell anyone I know to stop at this wonderful cafe. :) read more

Just passed through this town on my way to Oregon. I was at first a little hesitant about eating here but I found it to be absolutely delightful! The food was far superior to the fast food I usually eat on road trips. Plus they had giant cinnamon rolls, dessert flavored coffee, and several other goodies to satisfy my sweet tooth. I've never written a review before, but my experience here was so negative that I didn't want anyone else to waste their time. So disappointing to find that what was once my favorite breakfast restaurant has deteriorated to such poor condition. I've been driving for well over an hour for years to have such great quality food and service, it was frankly shocking to be exposed to the train wreck that the place is now. My Valentine's Day getaway would have been ruined if we had to rely only on this option. There must have been a change in ownership. Dirty tables, no coffee cups, empty bakery shelves, only one poor server doing her best to bail a sinking ship, and disheveled grungy tweekers preparing the food. The server was forced to close the restaurant mid-morning prior to our food arriving because of the train wreck in the kitchen, and my wife and I had to bolt. The trigger point for our decision to leave was when the cook entered the seating area and berated the server for returning an order from a customer that was wrong. After seeing one of the kitchen crew enter the customer area and knock some items off the shelf, then try to make change for a customer from his wallet because there was no money in the till, we saw our chance and ran for the door. read more

we waited 30 minutes to get some service, about an hour for our food to come out, and they even had half the orders wrong (6-people). the waitress with tattoos all over her arms had a very rude attitude & would roll her eyes when we tried to ask for help when our orders were wrong. the food was terrible, the yogurt is home made and has no taste at all, the fruit came out warm, and they never checked to refill our drinks (which are in small cups). Passing through Dunsmuir and asked a local where to eat...they directed us to Cornerstone..The food was very good, fresh and tasty. Of course, we had to take home some fresh baked pastries...yum.. The waitstaff were very friendly and service was fast. I highly recommend this cafe. read more

Stopped for breakfast about a week ago. Really disappointed, the cafe was recommended twice by folks at the Rail Road Park Motel, but did not live to those endorsements. First it was no value, we had s short stack of pancakes, two orders of bacon, hash browns and 2 coffees - for just short of $30.00. The pancakes were tasteless and you had to pay extra for real maple syrup. The service was mediocre at best. read more

I will start with, this is my first negative review. We are not complainers. Walked in Sunday later morn, not too busy, young girl hollered out "take a seat at a clean table", which we did. From the moment the young lady walked up to our table, very unwelcoming, didnt asked if we wanted drinks. Brought warm water in carafe no ice in cup or offered. Came and took order only then did we get to order coffee. When our food arrived, my spouses order was wrong, didnt send if back, just picked out what he didnt want. She said my toast and my spouses English muffin would be right up, few minutes later she dropped my dry toast on the table and kept walking about 5 minutes later finally asked another server for some butter for my toast, "okay" she says, never to come back, another several minutes went by and my waitress walked by, so I asked her for some butter, she brought it straight from the fridge, nice and hard, but of course my toast was cold and at the same time my spouses cold English muffin was tossed on the table on her way by. Not one time during the whole meal did she ask if our food was good, needed coffee? And being honest food was nothing special! Which is forgivable if the service is good! All in all, terrible dining experience, and to be sure will never eat there again. And certainly would never suggest anybody else try it! And being the person I am, I still left her a tip! read more

What can I say that hasn't been said in the other reviews? This is obviously an excellent cafe. We were here with our two kids (3 and 1) and they were very accommodating. Breakfast was top notch and such a nice break from the greasy spoons we had encountered on our family road trip. We felt like we were in a bistro in Palo Alto, not in a small mountain town. If we lived in Dunsmuir, we would be hard pressed not to eat here every weekend. read more

Morning Glory muffin? I think that's what it was called - my husband said it was like having carrot cake in a muffin! Extraordinary place to eat. Myself and my family stopped here and the food and the service and the whole place was just fantastic. Had terrific food for both young kids and older and we've spoken about phenomenal the meal was well after the trip. The friendliness of the staff and the whole feel of the place gave us a whole Gilmore Girls vibe in a great way. Lovely, brilliant restaurant that turned around the day for us. read more

Great service, great food in the little town of Dunsmuir not far from Mt Shasta! I had the French toast, hubby had the Fisherman's Breakfast - a trout fillet that was dipped in a cornmeal crust and pan fried, served with hash browns. It's not often that we have fish for breakfast but this was delish, as was the French toast! We shared a cup of fruit salad - it's plenty for two people with a good variety of fruit and arranged really nicely. Staff were great. They seated us promptly and we were served quickly even though the restaurant was busy with a Presidents Day long weekend breakfast crowd. read more

Had a killer breakfast at this place this morning. First, despite traveling up I-5 many times and passing Dunsmuir, I'd never been downtown. Super cool little downtown area! And the Cornerstone Bakery is situated right in the center of it. Super eclectic menu. I had a delicious Belgian waffle that was topped with smoked bacon. Service was prompt and super friendly. I'm a local in dunsmuir and my boyfriend and I go to the cornerstone pretty regularly. Unfortunately the last time we got breakfast there the service was terrible. Brandy, our server, never made our lattes and we had to ask another server to. Then she finally came to take our order but afterwards completely ignored us (I'm assuming because I asked for the coffees that were taking so long). Later I could see our food sitting in the window for at least 10 minutes before the OWNER had to get up from his computer and bring it out because the our server had completely forgotten about us. The order was wrong and we had to send it back. After we finished and the other server who had made our lattes took our dirty plates away, Brandy came over and started apologizing for us not getting our food... but we had already eaten. She was so out of touch with what was going on with her tables she hadn't even brought us one item we ordered and other servers and the owner had to serve us. Must say she has given better service to us before but it seemed clear that her and the hostess were ignoring us because after waiting 10 minutes for our coffees I insisted they make them for us. If you want quality food with good service anytime the Wheelhouse has breakfast All day and Jen is an awesome server. read more

We were happy to find this place because there was not much else around. We quickly parked in front of the building and did a poor job of it. With barfing children and a 4 hour drive ahead of us, after visiting family in the mountains for Christmas, we were wearing thin. The young woman at the counter was nice but the older woman was inconsiderate. She had an accent and was maybe Hispanic. Without saying "hi", "how are u doing" or anything she walked up to me and chewed me out for our poor parking job. She asked me why we had parked poorly and I briefly acknowledged that it was a poor parking job and i answered her question of "why?" I mentioned the already rough morning and saying "I don't really know why" she just "humphed" and walked away. She should be careful as a business employee and a human being. This kind of treatment could really cause some people to go off the deep end. read more

4 of us arrived for breakfast at 9 am on a Sunday .. we had heard new owners had bought the joint recently. A fairly new waitress, Megan, served us with 5 star service and a natural warm smile. Food was over the top good. New owner stopped by and served coffee and a visit .. very pleasant .. talked about streamlining menu and serving breakfast all day. We asked about chef and she said the same guy was in the kitchen with all the same recipes. Kid friendly and hiker friendly. Pacific Crest Trail crosses Hwy. 5 a few Miles south of Dunsmuir. Eh~ it was ok. My BF and I came here for brunch instead of Yak on 5 considering that this place closed earlier. The food was typical, in fact, somewhat disappointing. I requested for the hash browns to be extra crispy, not only was it not extra crispy, majority of it wasn't even browned. I wasn't too hungry so I didn't bother to send it back. Semi cooked hash brown covered 2/3 of the plate, the rest was the main meal. My BF really enjoyed their butternut squash soup though...so it's a hit and miss I guess. read more
