Be aware of a very good salesman person. Workers and Cornerstone cars without company sign may show up on your property without your permission (!), knowledge, and without any notifications. We hired CORNERSTONE Custom Brick to re-build the upper part of our chimney, replace the service door for ash removal from the outside, and to fix our porch. The estimate included cleaning after work. Communication was good. Eric, one of the supervisors was in contact with us trying to find matching bricks. The crew of 4 people showed up on October 29, 2018, with lots of equipment and tools. The chimney has been rebuilt the way we expected. The porch - not really, they fixed and replaced the edge but workers caused a chip right in the center of our main entrance to the house. The crew finished the job after dark so we did not have a chance to see how the cleaning was done. Basically, just the stones were swept into our flower beds. We also had to powerwash a thin layer of cement left on our driveway and patio. But we did not complain about it to Eric or the owner. At the end of November, we started out our fireplace and next day we noticed that our whole house, every piece of furniture, inside drawers, closets, dishes, toys, curtains, blinds, books, even our dog - was covered with a layer of black soot. It is the nightmare and we are still fighting with it and cleaning it up. We've lived in this house over 16 years and use the fireplace all winter and never had problems with soot. Our first guess was that our furnace is broken. We called the company who installed our furnace 5 years ago and a very experienced worker, Tom showed up in about an hour. He checked the furnace with the professional equipment and found nothing wrong. Then he started to check the draft at the fireplace and it was OK. But he then explained what probably happened. On a windy day (we had windy days at that time) a "backdraft" was created, at the same time our furnace started and sucked in the soot and spread it thru the entire house. The furnace intake is across the room from the fireplace. We were not sure why for 16 years we never had that problem and suddenly it happened. It took us a while to realize, that we did not check our service door after CS replaced it and this was a VERY BIG MISTAKE. We found that the door was not sealed and not even possible to be latched. We called CORNERSTONE Custom Brick, explained what happened and asked them to help us with the cost of cleaning (ducts, chimney, upholstery, carpets, clothing.. Whole house!.) Eric showed up the next day to see the damage. He was very sorry and he said that CS had that soot back up issue before and the owner will participate in our costs of cleaning. We decided not to file a claim to our insurance company. Eric replied politely to the text messages we sent. He promised to "get back to us soon". One day when we came home from work we noticed that the service doors are sealed and rotated 90 degrees to latch properly. We do not like when somebody is present on our property without our knowledge! BTW CS did a very poor job on that door sealing. It looks messy. After the calculation of the labor we did and what still has to be done we asked CORNERSTONE to reimburse part of cleaning cost. It's over two months now and we still do not know CORNERSTONE decision. We have no answers for our text messages anymore. We've spent a lot of money and time to clean and make our house livable again. We are still not done with house detailing. read more

Our chimney was starting to crumble so we had a few companies give us estimates for the repair. We decided to go with Cornerstone Brick because all they do is brick work, so we figured they were experts in the field. I was so happy with the end result. The brick work was meticulous. The workers were very friendly and respectful. Joel, the owner even reached out to us after we had already paid him to make sure we were 100 % happy... We scheduled an appointment after the Covid shutdown, and the crew came out and did good work replacing brick that had cracked and tuck pointing . The problem is after about a month the mortar joints cracked. There is warranty and when I reached out to the salesman, Brandon, he told me he would get me on the schedule to be looked at. CornerStone gave the estimate to install brick wall for my new addition. They are pathetic, A person came to review the project and gave me estimate for $10,900 then realize that I am not much interested. he applied $1000 coupon. I still didn't want to yes to him, so then he knock off another $1000 down $8920. I told him you are the first one, I need more estimates before I can decide. Then I called his boss on speaker phone, and that guy was very rude. His boss was saying to him if he pays 50% now and sign the project, gave him another $1000 off down to $7980. He was applying for $3500, I bought all the material bricks cement, flashing ties everything for $1428 from General shale, only sand I order from else delivered to me $109. And third-party install those bricks for $2500. Total it cost me $4037. read more

Would not recommend this company. It's like a used car dealer, "sign now or we'll raise the price". They promise you things when they come over to do the quote but then they don't finish the work because they conveniently leave it off the contract. Then they keep promising to finish it, then all of the sudden after many many text messages to the contrary decide they don't have to. They also ask for a deposit up front, and if you finance with them they put in for the money immediately from the financing , so you are giving them full payment up front. It is not a "deposit" if they get full payment up front. It's partly my fault for trusting them. Poor communication. read more

Cornerstone came out, gave us estimate that was comparable to others we received and promised to come out when weather broke. As soon as it did, they called and scheduled day to do work. Two man crew arrived on day scheduled and on time. They were efficient and quick and seemed to be very experienced. They did tuck point and door stop work. Job looks nice and they cleaned up after. So far we are happy and hopefully stay that way read more

A special thanks to Joel and the crew at Cornerstone. Unfortunately the work didn't go as planned on my job and there were significant unintended negative issues that resulted from the work that was done. Previously I had met with 5 other contractors. Fortunately my homework had lead me to choosing the right contractor and an owner with integrity that was willing to take ownership and make things right entirely at his own expense. Joel left no stone unturned in making things right for me the customer-not himself. I should also mention that the masons on my job were friendly, honest, trustworthy, and checked with me on my level of satisfaction countless times along the way. These guys are a bunch of crooks and wont stand behind their product. I had a leak in my basement under my porch and they assured us they have done this type of work before. they suggested removing the top 3 rows of cinder block and then facing with brick. I started to notice leaks right away, worse than what I originally had. So I contacted them about 2 weeks after work was complete. It took 3 weeks for the first time to come out and all they did was put a caulk around the porch. That failed right away and was leaking just as bad. After another 3 weeks of going back and forth they finally got the original crew out, they ground out a bunch of mortar due to cracks. They used 8" cinder block on the existing 12" cinder block and said that that would be fine. Now the water is seeping all the way to my foundation. They claim this is a foundation issue, this is clearly a flaw on their end. They do not stand by their work. I asked the salesmen to pull a Permit when we signed the contract, well that didnt happen, just checked with township. I guess I will have to take more serious action against these clowns. read more

We are also battling people not answering our calls or making this a priority to come fix. We are out $14,000+ and at a loss of how we are going to deal with this. read more

Company has failed to return phone calls to set up time to repair their work done on a replaced porch. Customer service poor, paper warrenty doesn't mean much if pat brooks fails to call back and fix repairs. Very disappointed in this company. read more

Aug 2021 To April 2022. UNSAFE, UNSAFE, UNSAFE. Brighton Michigan. Cornerstone Brick rebuilt my chimney along with repairing brickwork on the exterior of my house, in Brighton MI. No one went into the furnace room to see if the chimney was being used to vent the furnace. Cornerstone put a cement cap on my chimney which caused me to live with carbon monoxide for about 8 months. I have a pacemaker and so my heart rate is recorded. My heart rate went up to 200bmp in my sleep. At that time, Drs. nor myself had no idea what was causing this to happen. I had to have tests I didn't want to have and in-cured medical expenses. Also, had a roof that leaked from what the repair crew said may have been from them putting bricks on my roof. I have also been told the chimney should of been rebuilt to the roof line, it wasn't. So there is a possibility that I will be paying another company to rebuild what I paid Cornerstone to do. I highly recommend Cornerstone for any home needs. They were able to provide quick and amazing service on a handful of masonry issues I had going on. They did everything the correct way instead of the quick fix way some other companies do. They remortared some areas, replaced bad bricks, and rebuilt an entire half-wall that looks better then the day it was built. We contracted with Cornerstone Custom Brick to repair our chimney cap and replace damaged bricks. We are giving Cornerstone one star because we cannot give them zero. Steve Noble wrote the quote and was the contact and project manager. We, unfortunately did not find the bad reviews of others until after the problems surfaced. We hope prospective customers will find our review beforehand and consider another company. * The workers did not show up the day they were supposed to and no one called to let us know. When we called the company, we were told that there was a family emergency, but looking at other reviews, it seems that excuse had been used before. * Before setting up the scaffolding, the workers did not lay down any protective covering for our paver brick patio, which was completely refinished in 2017, nor anything to protect the glass patio doors. We did not see this until well after the job had begun; we did not monitor the work as we trusted the professionals to do a proper job. * Bricks purchased by Steve and his associate, Tim, were not the same size as the old ones, as we pointed that out, but were similarly colored. After being assured by Steve that the workers would be able to use them, we agreed to allow it. * The contract stated that there were to be three steps, or corbels, a brick indentation technique. Due to the off-sized bricks, only two steps were able to be constructed. * The cap itself was to be comprised of construction grade cement with mesh. The workers used standard Quikrete (the empty bag was in the truck bed) and NO mesh was installed per their admission. * Steve did visit the job and did not correct any of the discrepancies in the work being performed while the work was incomplete, and, perhaps, correctible, letting it progress to its incorrect and damaging completion. * When the work was complete, the workers swept and hosed down the patio, giving it a clean appearance. When it later dried, we were appalled to see the staining of our paver brick patio and cement splatter on our patio doors. * The next day Steve came for the final payment. Because of all the above, we refused to complete the payment, but were bullied by the owner, Joel, saying that he would put a lien on our house. We agreed to a lower price, but still wanted our patio repaired, which Steve said would happen. The lower price, incidentally, was near what Steve initially quoted as the price for a "Low Quality" job - what we actually received. During the discussion with Joel, after the fact, he said we should have "shut the job down" and "insisted they get the proper bricks" (his words) - WE ARE NOT MASONRY EXPERTS - they were supposed to be. We were even told that we didn't have to be at home while the work was being done. We never would have discovered many of the problems had we not been there. * Initially Steve said he'd have the patio power washed, but refused to replace polymeric sand that would be washed away nor would he re-seal the surface. After two months of being ignored by both Steve and Joel, Steve finally returned due to our persistence and used a cleaner and brush and cleaned it, not replacing any sealant, but saying he'd replace dislodged sand. The pavers look better, but the unsatisfactory experience remains. read more

I would not recommend this company. At the end of their job I walked around the house and found at least 2 dozen spots for them to fill in the cement for tuckpointing. Which they did. I am still finding holes where it wasn't filled. My brick is colored from the cement they used. Just an all over crummy job and I would think twice about hiring this company for anything. We hired Cornerstone Custom Brick in June of 2018 to add some cultured stone to our porch posts. They were doing a job in our neighborhood so I gave them a call. They came out beginning of June and reassured us they could start within a few days due to working in the area. Great- since our landscaping was going to get done, we were reassured that we could be fit in. Steve(the project manager) gave me a color sample book and asked me to get him colors ASAP(which I did) and reassured me they would be dropped off the next day(which was a Friday) so we could pick a color and start the job. The samples took three weeks to get dropped off and they were two colors I didn't even ask for but I liked the one so I didn't make a big deal about it. Steve gave me excuses about "getting caught on big jobs" and that's why nothing was being dropped off. After my husband called Steve and he didn't even know what project he was calling about, he sent an email which prompted a call from the owner, Joel. Cornerstone eventually started the project about a month after we signed a contract and gave a deposit. I think this is their sales approach to tell the customer they can start soon, take a deposit and signed contract but in reality they can't start for a few weeks. Honesty goes a long way. In the end, their work was nice and they cleaned up well after themselves. I wish they would have dropped off the samples as quick as they picked up their final payment. read more
